This morning on Tuesday’s edition of the ABC gabfest The View, GH star Ryan Paevey (Nathan) joined the ladies of the panel as a special guest co-host.  Ryan joined Rosie Perez, Whoopi Goldberg, Nicolle Wallace, and another guest co-host Glee’s Naya Rivera for the hour.

In one segment, Whoopi discussed that over this past weekend, 50 Shades of Grey opened nationwide and garnered over 94 million dollars at the box-office.  She then launched into how guest co-host Ryan Paevey actually auditioned for the role of Christian Grey that ultimately went to actor Jamie Dornan.

In a fun moment, Ryan takes the ladies through his “50 Shades” audition process, and why he thinks he was not selected for the role!  Later, Naya Rivera chimes in that she took to Twitter to find about what people thought of Dornan in the lead role, and said that women were expecting someone taller and with more muscles, and more manly, hence Paevey!

Watch the segment after the jump!  How do you think Ryan fared on The View?  Do you think he would have made the perfect Christian Grey?  Comment below!

Didn’t watch the View or the clip. When is ABC going to realize the only way to get the soap fans back is by restoring AMC & OLTL? Bring back Love In The Afternoon!!! And ABC7NY stop interrupting GH for “Breaking News” especially when it involves 3 idiots!

Agree 100% with your part 2. You’d think that given the 500 hours of local news that they air each day, they’d save minor items for then and quit interrupting GH, one of the few programs that I enjoy and love to escape with. And it’s laughable how everything, such as a water main break or a road closure, is labeled “Breaking News”.

But sorry Linda, ABC will never bring back AMC and OLTL. That ship has long sailed and they clearly have no regrets, now 4 years later. At this point in time, you and others truly need to move on already. I know how you feel. I was definitely sad and disappointed that they were cancelled too and still miss them, but I’ve turned the page. So have all of the actors and crew members on both shows by now. Let’s just focus on GH, which is doing quite well and is better now than it’s been in years.

I have not watched anything on the alphabet network since the last day OLTL aired. The only reason I looked at this post was to learn who Ryan Paevey is.

You are so right. The only way to resort their viewership is to bring back AMC and OLTL.

Christie, in a very eloquent way, spoke the truth. However, by protesting and not watching GH we run the risk of losing that as well.

Folks, AMC & OLTL are NEVER coming back to ABC. Please understand that. For starters, do you realize how much it would cost ABC to even buy back the rights to the shows from Prospect Park? Not to mention rebuild sets and rehire actors, writers, etc without any promise that the shows would draw enough viewership to be profitable again? Also, where exactly would ABC place them in their daily lineup now? It’s NOT happening. Quite frankly, it’s very sad and downright pathetic that there are some soap fans that STILL can’t move on from this already.

I do not watch ABC either. I would only watch if AMC came back. I just want ABC to go away forever. I support the soaps by watching Y&R. No I will not get over it.

That’s why I miss Soapnet – no interruptions for manufactured “Bulletins” :/

I was a loyal AMC/OLTL fan. I grieved both shows, but especially OLTL. It was. Great show with a strong audience; there was no reason to cancel. That said, I do not boycott ABC. GH is strong show, and my watching helps it to stay relevant.

ABC will never bring back these shows, so it’s time to move forward. Support the shows we do have left on daytime, and watch Ryan Peavey on The View. It can only help!

Please people for your own sanity MOVE ON ALREADY. It’s been YEARS since your soaps went off. If a boyfriend left you and you were still waiting for him to come running back to you 2 YEARS LATER, you would have to admit that that was a psychological problem. If they cancelled Two Broke Girls, would you stop watching ALL of CBS?

Totally serious: you people have a big problem.

They invite the man onto the show, let him talk! They also did not let Naya Rivera speak either. Rude.

TOTALLY AGREE.

Within 15 seconds of watching this clip I was reminded how awful this show is.

(Barbara Walters will pay in the afterlife for this.)

They yenta it up on all these shows. It is annoying for any guest to say anything without someone cutting them off. Have ALL the women yack it up and give their VIEW and then when a guest comes on only have one or two women in the segment.

lol
I have not read nor seen 50 Shades of Gray,, doing so might ruin my sex life and I’d start to shop at Madards….
nonetheless! I could see Ryan as Christian just because he is sexy hot!

ever notice- 50 shades of grey sounds like a home decorating book .. LOL !!

I thought 50 Shades Of Gray was about a retirement community down in Florida…lol

Funny and fitting, as usual, jimh. LOL.

Lol, Su…..don’t need any instructions…my bedroom sizzles, as it is!!
Seriously, though, I cannot understand what the big hype is all about. I get more thrills watching my soaps or watching my daughter take her first steps. Those who make such a ruckus, really need to get a life. JMO.

Jamie Dornan/Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson/ Anastasia Steele, neither are models and both are much like ordinary looking people..
Both of them being just nice looking was great casting because people could relate to Christian and Anastasia..
Ryan was way too gorgeous, his model sexy body was to hot to be Christian..
The casting of more-so regular people is what made the movie more excitingly believable..

Right on, Su. There is nothing remarkable about those actors/actresses. Dakota, unfortunately fell far, far from the apple tree which is her mother, the gorgeous Melanie.

Maybe he could be in the remake of ‘March Of The Wooden Soldiers’…lol

Saw the show. They completely ignored him as they babbled, cackled and shrieked their way through hot topics. They then talked about fashion week and how skinny models are, completely oblivious to the fact Ryan is a model…not even bringing him into that conversation. Whoopie then went on to describe wrongly how Ryan as Det West caught the bomb on the Haunted Star….and then interrupted his answer regarding his fifty shades audition…sigh….with it all the words he did manage to get in were articulate and intelligent. He came off charming, adorable and non pretentious…love!

Rebecca…YEAH, REALLY!!!!! A-L-L 3 of them (ESPECIALLY Whoopi!!!!!) are nothing but annoying, yammering and even more clueless AIRHEADS!!!!! As far as I’m concerned, Ryan brought some MUCH-NEEDED C-L-A-S-S to The View!!!!!! RYAN ROCKS!!!!!!

Take care, Rebecca. Peace.

He surprised me and did as well as he could with that cluster truck they call a show!

Hey jaybird369…yep!:)

See, Timmm? You’re going to be a Ryan Paevy AND Det West fan sooner than you think!

Not even a GH star can make me turn on The View anymore. The View has run it’s course and needs to be put out of its misery ASAP already, imo. It’s amazing to think that right now, GH seems relatively safe for the forseeable future while The View is on the chopping block. Who would have thought that 3-4 years ago?

I hate labeling myself as a turncoat, but I’m a turncoat. It took many opinions from many different posters to open my eyes.
I loved THE VIEW as it was….as my Gran saw it back in the day…and myself. The panel is not stupid…just obnoxiously oh- listen-to-me-listen-to-me….what-I-have-to-say-is-so-much-more-important!!
I am sort of changing my tune….which is so unlike me. I usually am steadfast and stick to my guns. But, I must agree with all you, my soap friends, …..I was completely disappointed. I just watched the segment—-FASHION WEEK was absolutely astounding, by the by—- I felt so badly for Ryan….it was such an awkward hour. I can’t put my finger on it. He was so polite….so much so that he was either interrupted or posed condescending questions. But, as the gentleman that he is, he just kept stepping back.
Naya was treated in just about the same manner…..such a classy and beautiful girl.
I still maintain a weakness for Whoopi, I really like her and Rosie P. But, the Wallace woman strikes me as spacey…has anyone noticed she speaks with a constant smile on her face? Ugh.
I am heartbroken about the deterioration of this show….I want it to thrive, with the right panelists. I will not give up. ….if only Joy would come back!

“The panel is not stupid…just obnoxiously oh- listen-to-me-listen-to-me….what-I-have-to-say-is-so-much-more-important!!”

Unfortunately, CeeCee THE ABOVE is what the world is coming to. Just think about all those cell phone commercials that air during primetime. The actors are all portrayed as egocentric.

I nearly lost my breakfast recently when I saw a commercial for Eggo waffles where the idiot family was bragging about WHO would post a picture of their nobody-gives-a-rat’s-ass waffle on Twitter or Instagram. Really? Is this what has become of us? The media and advertising take absolutely ZERO responsibility for the way they push this me-me-me crap at the general public.

I tell you as a mom of a two preschool-aged boys, it is extremely difficult to raise DECENT children in today’s world.

I am fortunate that I was raised in the 70s in a small town in upstate New York (read the country). I had wonderful examples with my parents and my maternal grandparents (dairy farmers) and we did not have cell phones and the internet. We got along just fine with our little country party line for our corded phones. When your show was on you watched it or you missed it until the VCR came along. People actually talked to each other when seated across from one another and people were actually interested in what others had to say.

Small town life taught me to hold the door for other people. Having a job in retail during high school taught me to pick things up the floor in stores (even though I wasn’t the one who dropped them). My parents taught me to treat others as I would like to be treated as did my parochial schooling. My grandma taught me the joy of baking for others “just because.” Not because I needed a pat on the back or I needed something to brag about on Facebook.

I like your comments, CeeCee. You sound like someone who listens to what others say before you respond and you try to look at the other side of the story. On the internet that is a rare quality these days. 🙂

Does the fact that he went on an audition give him credibility as an actor? I think a more interesting aspect of that story would be to find out what the casting director thought. I’m pretty sure I know the answer.

Not a fan of Nathan West but I give the guy credit for admitting he auditioned for 50.

Oh Yeah.. he would have made a great Christian! Love Whoopies comment about the grandson.. I can relate, but he’s still hot!

Ryan could read the phone book. He is so sexy.

Yeah, Jake. That’s probably the reason he didn’t get the role; his beauty would have sent all the women and men into lovesick hysteria. LOL.

He did a great job and I think a huge star in the making. The camera loved him yesterday.

For those not watching ABC because of AMC and OLTL, that is your choice. But, you are damaging GH with that mentality. The actors from both shows have moved on. The networks are not going to pull a show from the archives when they can spend a fraction on a talk show, game show, local news, etc.

A completely pointless appearance, but he did look cute. He also did slightly better than Jason Thompson’s appearance last year.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
