Y&R Alumni Return for 50th Anniversary Celebration
The Young and the Restless is gearing up for its golden anniversary next month with an announcement today of a handful of returns just in time for the big 5-0 milestone.
Coming home to Genoa City beginning on-air in mid-March are: Daytime Emmy winner, Tricia Cast (Nina Webster) who played the part beginning in 1986 and was last seen on air in 2021.
In addition, Barbara Crampton will reprise her role of Leanna Love. She last appeared on the CBS daytime drama series in 2007.
Michael Damian is also back as Danny Romalotti. Damian recently returned for the holidays in December of 2022. And, what’s better than two Romalotti siblings? In addition to Damian, Patty Weaver, last seen on Y&R in 2013, will reappear as Danny’s sister, Gina.
Rounding out the returns is none other than Veronica Redd as Mamie Johnson. Veronica played the role from 1990 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2004.
Y&R officially turns 50 on March 26th, 2023.
So, excited to see this ‘fab five’ mix it up on Y&R again? Comment below!
Yay. Bring Victoria Rowell back. She’s done other CBS shows recently so she is good with CBS apparently.
Yes– as a fan from the beginning, it is always nice to see former cast members return even though storylines for them seem frivolous and almost pointless. Like other fans, I’d like to see the original cast of characters: Brookes sisters, Prentiss brothers, The Fosters. Then there’s the 80s group that included so many wonderful supporting characters like Amy and Lynn and Andy Richards, and on and on. Would love to see some of the characters that had great plots like JoAnn, the overweight woman who thinned down. Ah, the list of great plots from back then were gripping and actually intense! Miss the romance and heartbreak plots. Everything today seems to be about job-jumping and picking up take-out food. And I look forward to rerunning scenes from yesteryear, looking at those wonderful sets and listening to its iconic background music that set the mood for each scene. HAPPY 50!
You go, Ron! Perfectly said.
Ron
Liked yor comments. Am racking my brain over this woman JoAnn you refer to. I know Tracy lost a lot of weight, other than her I haven’t a clue.
Violet– sorry for the delayed response (I was out out town.) Joann was the wife of a college professor. He conveniently removed his wedding ring while teaching and began a “rendezvous” with the youngest Brookes sister, Peggy. And, yes, the writers revisited the weight storyline with Traci, and that was equally good. Both actresses did “weight control” programs for the show.
Ron,
Better late than never, right? Thanks for the response, but am still racking ! I loved little Peggy and all her antics, the worst being stuck in that cult, being held captive with all the rats, yikes! Thanks to Paul who rescued her and all the times they had, good and bad and now they are treating him like, you know what! Maybe some day I’ll remember the overweight woman you spoke of. Hope you enjoy the Anniversary celebration.
I started watching Y&R the first year it was on. Sally and Pierre, the Brooks and Foster families. It would absolutely thrill me if they got Brenda Dickson back to play Jill, even for one episode.
Didn’t Joann work for Mrs Chancellor?
I totally gave up on the show when Jeanne Cooper passed away. They really screwed up by the way they ignore Doug Davidson and his character.
And before you all get your panties in a wad, don’t expect #YR to invite Doug Davidson back as Paul. Doug hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the brass at Sony or CBS. Plus, he’s a MAGAat. I was following him on Twitter when I found that out and promptly unfollowed and blocked him. I don’t need those who drink Trump’s kool-aid in my life (yes, I said that)!
Bravo, Michael!
Well Said Michael.
This should be a cast celebration not a place to air grievances. Seems like Doug has been quite public about his disdain for CBS and Sony.
Michael
Good for you! Maybe America could be great again if he’d just crawl in a hole somewhere, golf course maybe and leave us alone.
Show should focus on the character of Jill using flashbacks with all actresses who played the role as Jill remembers all in her life the last 50 years. Bring back one of the Snappers, her brothers, make it a week long special – she interacted with everyone, so it would work. I know it’s too late. The best anniversary gift would be new writers, Thanks only to a fast forward on my dvr is Y and R watchable.
This reminds me of when Genoa City really bustled. There was a broader community of characters and oh, some wonderful stories and highest of high production values, including music and an occasional song! Genoa City was an aspirational place, Seemed special.
No Paul no watching. What a terrible way for a show to treat someone who gave 40 years of their life to this show
I have LONG awaited Aunt Mamie’s return to the show. I wish they’d bring her character back full time. The Winterses need a strong head of the family.
olemoneybags,
I agree.these three are getting tiresome to say the least. I think Nathan had ONE good idea though, for his mom, Olivia to come and counsel all three of them, maybe her love and guidance could help straighten them out.
They need to change the opening graphics immediately. It looks like this current, tired opening is also celebrating its 50th anniversary!
So agree!!!
I absolutely love the Young and the restless I’ve been with it since day one just like I have the bold and the beautiful. When I do miss is as the world turns and guiding light those were the shows that I absolutely loved and I’m so upset that they took them off the air years ago. All these talk shows is ridiculous I really rather go back to them myself I’m 60 and I watched him with my mom and I was a kid. So I watched every one of them from day one. But it is what it is welcome to the 21st century and it’s just something that you have to put up with with changing times
The other character I wish they would bring back would be Dru. But since Christian is gone I guess there’s no sense in it. The love couple are both deemed to be deceased one is for real and one is according to the soap.
Can I politely ask for another Traci and Danny scene without Lauren interrupting it?
Traci could use some loving. It doesn’t have to be all about Christine.
As far as Doug Davidson goes. It sounds like the animosity goes both ways. No need to cast a pall over the festivities.
Wow! thought I was old, but how old are all of you? Watched for many years, but never followed closely. Even now I don’t know all of the real names versus stage names. However, I can recall some of the sets. Thank goodness for the Abbott (I don’t know how they spell their names either) family living room. Victor’s living room looks cheap; perhaps appropriately so. I do recall a lovely old living room that burned down or something. Wish I could recall who the couple was — perhaps one was Brad that went to Bold and the Beautiful which I have never watched.
When in college one summer I was asked to babysit (kids were 10 to 16). The sixteen-year-old daughter watched the Young and the Restless. There was a long break when going back to school and other things, but years later I turned on the television one afternoon while cleaning the living room; The Young and the Restless was showing. It wasn’t until things could be recorded that I began to follow more regularly. I do enjoy your comments.
Most evenings, before retiring, I often turn on the recording which takes my mind off any worries of the day. Thank You!
Tani Sterling,
Honey, your memory serves you well, for not being a regular viewer. You do remember the decor pretty accurately. The fire you are speaking of was the original Newman Ranch that Sharon set fire to during a manic episode. They rebuilt it, but it’s never been the same, and you are right again, not nearly as attractive. Yes, Brad Carleton drowned and moved to Bold and Beautiful as another character. The Abbott home hasn’t changed their decor since 2007 when Jack married Sharon Newman and she re-did the whole house. It reminds me of a combination Antique store and museum.
It’s been fun remembering all this with you and by the way, I’m 90yrs.old and still enjoy this show , GH and B&B.
It has a wonderful history but once the Bells had no part in it anymore it went downhill I have not taped or watched it for years. . Everyone is talking about Doug he had some great storylines he fought his battle on Twitter you never do that it’s a losing battle keep it private !
What was a mystery is nobody other then Eric braeden spoke up for him! Bottom line their our little stupid childish games they play grow up all of you if you really had to face the issues most working Americans had to you would fail
Kay,
You are right. As far as Doug goes, I’ve loved the actor for years. He’s not a personal friend, so do not care what he thinks or how he runs his private life. Someone mentioned his being affiliated with Trump, etc. If that were the case I wouldn’t be associated with a lot of my family members or acquaintances.
What about Drecella and Malcolm? Would love to see them return

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
