Y&R’s Mishael Morgan Produces Video For Juneteenth Day Featuring Several Soap Notables

Photo: JPI

Today is Juneteenth, Freedom Day, which recognizes the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy.

For it, The Young and the Restless Mishael Morgan (Amanda) produced an inspiring and emotional video.  She is joined her Y&R co-stars: Brytni Sarpy (Elena, Y&R), Christel Khalil (Lily, Y&R), Bryton James (Devon), Sean Dominic (Nate), as well as Daytime Emmy winner and a nominee again this year, Tamara Braun (Ex-Kim, GH) for this video entitled, “The I Have a Dream Project”.

The Project was inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement and was created in Honor of Juneteenth (Freedom Day). In the video, Mishael and her soap friend and others perform a modern reinterpretation of the “I Have a Dream Speech” that was delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.  During this speech King called for civil and economic rights and also an end to racism & segregation in the United States. It still remains to this day, one of the most iconic speeches in American History.

Today, according to the project, they are attempting to “bring this “dream” alive with the collaboration of actors from diverse backgrounds, age, race, sexual orientation and countries. Everyone put their own unique cadence on the words originally spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King. We are attempting to display unity and the fact that we are all more alike than different. Actor’s use the words of this iconic speech to create a personal emphatic monologue while adding a unique modern spin. Through this visual representation we are hoping to continue to inspire social justice reform and simulate conversations that address systemic racism on a global scale… times have changed but the message remains the same! The dream of one American hero, now lives in the hearts of people from all over the world. Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for giving us the words and a dream that continues to inspire us.”

Watch “The I Have a Dream Project” below, then let us know what you thought of it via the comment section.

I pray for all of you but you are completely whacked if you think burning buildings tearing down statues beating the crap out of people is going to impress anyone all I see is I hope Jesus comes soon the only kneeling I do is in front of my savior and yes their had been horrible past but to say we are still living it no way ! Obama would not have been elected twice if we were indeed a racist nation Oprah Winfrey would not have been one of the wealthiest people in America if our country was racist! You better get control of yourselves or trust me We will not be a free nation and in my opinion the greatest country in the world ! No I do not have black skin but In my world we are all the same god loves us all. Maybe I feel a different way then I did years ago but life is precious and I miss my sister so much if you want to stand together then pray together for our nation ! Ok I have said enough losing a loved one does that to you I miss my sisters voice her laughter that’s what’s important not attacking and hate until you bring god in your heart nothing will change!

many keep mentioning there is no Hitler Statue in Germany but that has not prevented many racist people from stop hating Jewish people..so i dont think removing and destroying statues will stop anything…

Not only are there no Hitler statues in Germany, there are no pro-Nazi memorials of any kind, nor are any depictions of Nazi logos allowed. For example, the band “KISS” has to alter their logo on their album covers in Germany, because the “SS” part of the logo actually resembles the symbol for Hitler’s SS. So KISS albums pressed in Germany have something like two backward Z’s where the SS would be.

Contrast this with the use of the confederate symbology in the USA. Just like Naziism, it was a destructive force, based on racism, that totally destroyed the country and killed a lot of people (nearly 700,000 – still the largest US casualties of any war) And yet the “Dixie Swastika” flag (aka “the stars & bars”) was embraced for years. In some case, a harmless display like the one painted on top of a car in the Dukes of Hazzard. Ironically the car itself was named for the Traitor, Robert E. Lee. But of course, nobody thought of the Duke boys as promoting racism (rumors that they were related to David Duke aside, of course)

In other cases, it’s clearly used by white supremacists lunatics to identify themselves. Why in Hell’s name are Trump fanboys in MICHIGAN marching with Confederate Flags? Can these people read a map? Michigan was nowhere near the old CSA, for Hell’s sake!

So yeah, it’s time to get rid of all this dragonshit. If you want to put Confederate Flags, & statues of Confederate traitors in museums for historical purposes, that’s fair. Just as Nazi symbolism is in the Holocaust museum, in it’s proper context. But in the end, the post war Germans had the right idea. The symbols of hate should have never been allowed to be celebrated.

Here here, Satan! Well said!

Thanks Satan!!

White people (myself included) have NO business saying there is no racism in America. It’s like a man saying menstrual cramps don’t exist because he doesn’t have them. It’s time for white people to sit down and be quiet. We have had 400 years to say ridiculous, uninformed and harmful things about race. It’s enough.

Thank you, YES!

Im sorry but while Dr King was a great civil rights leader…he disliked gays. lesbians, transgender people and also cheated on his wife…he may talked unity but not for all when it comes to same sex couples ect.-his own family admitted it ////im totally for equality for all and nothing against Juneteenth-anything that brings people together is great and justice for all…maybe this comment wont make it but i think the truth be known if people want to expose all bigotry in this country!!!

Jim, I am an African American and I agree with just about everything you said. But, a man cheating on his wife has nothing to do with fighting for equality. Until all (Black, White, Hispanic. Asian and Indian) can see and be treated as equals, there is no progress. As long as someone is denied because of the color of their skin or orientation, there is no progress. Just because this is 2020, it doesn’t mean that we view each other fairly. As long as a people of color have to express/chant Black lives matter in a public forum to make others understand, we have not made progress.

i agree with you mostly too…the thing is maybe he would had changed we will never know,,,i dont hate the man-i even think he would had made a great president….maybe everyone in the past would think different if they were with us today-i would love to think so…maybe General Custer would think differently too,,,but what people thought then were never given the chance to think differently now…and he too was discussed about cheating on his wife…so if im willing to give MLK a pass why cant others think the same of the horrible things people done and thought since the beginning of time…all statues good and bad should all be in museums so whoever wants to see them can..but destroying them is erasing history…i have Jewish blood in me…if there is a Hitler statue out there im not going to destroy it because he murdered so many Jewish people…let us learn from the past so we dont repeat it like the say…

Jim,

Martin Luther King Jr. was a MAN, not the second coming of Christ. You would be hard-pressed to find a religious leader who came to prominence in the 1950s who was a pro-trans suppoter. Even some of the most liberal Americans would have had reservations 60-70 years ago. People evolve and change. If he were alive today perhaps his views regarding the lgbtq community would be different. To evolve is a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, he did not have the chance. Whatever the case, his fortitude and fight against racism is unmatched and should be celebrated.

Great post!

Jim, I don’t think it’s fair to assume Dr. King was a homophobe. Sexual orientation wasn’t as well understood in those days as it is now, and certainly not within the evangelical religious community, which of course was where Dr. King came from. Like most people of the time, he probably assumed that people “chose” to be gay, and could therefore “unchoose” it at anytime. Yeah, it sounds completely ridiculous now, but that was the prevailing mentality of the day.

One of MLK’s mentors & advisors in the civil rights movements was a gay man named Bayard Rustin. Rustin actually helped the young MLK take the pacifist approach in his civil rights mission. So it’s fair to say that the Black civil rights movement owes a debt to Rustin, a gay Black man.

In the last year or so of his life, Dr. King’s message had expanded from the civil rights/voting rights thing to class & anti war issues. He was assassinated more than a year before the Stonewall Riot put gay rights front & center, but I’m guessing that Dr. King would have embraced their message as well, if he were still on Earth at the time. His widow, Coretta Scott King believed that to be the case, and she, in fact, did become a supporter of LGBTQ equality. Never mind that niece of his who appears on FAUX Noise. She never has a clue what she’s talking about.

Congratulations Mishael Morgan and Tenika Davis. I appreciate seeing Dr. King’s speech performed so beautifully. I hope white soap fans like me watch and really think about the message. #blacklivesmatter

I thought it was exceptionally done and applaud Ms. Morgan and Ms. Davis on bringing together such a diverse number of people. I believe it made it even more powerful than had all the participants been black.

If, I have one complaint it was that the “cast” are not named in the credits. Some I obviously recognized immediately but it would be nice to know all who took part.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.
