Tuesday morning, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the nominees for the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards broadcast which will be presented on Friday, June 25 (8:00- 10:00PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streamed on Paramount+.

More than forty categories will be given out during the broadcast and on social media. Of the forty announced: General Hospital lead the pack with 17 nominations, followed by Days of our Lives with 7, and then The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful with 5  each.

The Daytime Emmys have recognized outstanding achievement in daytime television programming since 1974.  The awards are presented to individuals and programs broadcast between 2:00 am and 6:00 pm, as well as certain categories of digital and syndicated programming of similar content.

This year’s awards honor content from more than 3,000 submissions that originally premiered in calendar-year 2020.  The submissions were judged by a pool of more than 1,000 peer professionals from across the television industry whose confidential ballots were then tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Lutz & Carr, LLP.

The upcoming June 25th telecast will mark the 15th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmys more than any other network.

And now… here are the nominees in the Daytime Drama categories. Congratulations to all and to all in the daytime genre for weathering the most challenging of years, and delivering content and episodes to fans and viewers around the U.S., and the world.

Why was Days of our lives shut out of best writing?? That is so shady!

If you watched it, you wouldn’t have to ask.

The “re-imagined caragories for costume design, hair and makeup”. What a fucking joke. This is my last year dealing with the insults from the Emmys.

Question: What’s the definition of a “Guest Performer”?
Comment: “Days” did not get a writing nomination. Wow! That must be quite a blow to the writers on that show.

Great question, Scott. I was wondering that, too, myself. Check out my post and read my commentary about two TEMP RECASTS as “Guest Performers”? What? Must be a new thing.

Hi Jeremy!

Great analysis of the acting categories you spotlighted. I used to watch “General Hospital,” “Days of Our Lives,” and “The Young and the Restless.” Watching three soaps just got to be too much, especially when so many storylines are just dull. It was easy to drop “Days” after Will and Sonny left the show. I didn’t care for any other character or story. “Y&R” just didn’t interest me anymore, and so today I am only left with watching “GH.” Having said that, I don’t tune in to “GH” every day. This may sound strange, but when I watch “GH,” I am into it, and I can watch five or six episodes in a row. But if I stop watching even for a little while, I don’t feel compelled to return to it. Hence, I currently have 23 episodes on my DVR waiting for me. LOL

I don’t know who will win a Daytime Emmy this year, but the only one I’m really rooting for is James Patrick Stuart. I just think he’s sexy as hell, and I told him personally that I would forgive Valentin almost anything! LOL

I always thought Jeff Kober was a terrible actor. The cadence of his voice seems unnatural to me. However, his scenes where he showed vulnerability were absolutely top-notch, and I thought, “Hmmm, this guy really CAN act!” LOL
Nevertheless, I’m still rooting for James, even though he probably won’t win. To be honest, I fast-forwarded all the scenes with Max Gail and he won last year–but he’ll probably win again.

Scott W.

Hey Scott, thanks so much for your reply! I, too, miss Sonny & Will on DAYS. I had a dream recently, that the couple returned to Salem finally, but Sonny was recasted! I think it’s terrible that the Head Writer, and other writers, wrote this legendary couple off the show. I would like to see both original actors return. The writers made a big mistake by moving them off to Phoenix… of a places! And, how the hell is Gabby supposed to see her daughter and have joint custody when she clearly is bound to Salem? We need Will & Sonny back! (LISTEN UP NBC & DAYS)

I hope you catch up on your 23 episodes of GH! It’s getting really good. At the moment, I prefer to the writing and acting over at GH, than at Days of Our Lives. I’m so grateful that DAYS were renewed for two years, however, the show needs major changes made! Mainly, a new Head Writer. Maybe, things will shift a bit when E.J. returns?

So, am I understanding that you’ve met James Patrick Stuart? 🙂
Fascinating!

As for Jeff Kober, I still have mixed feelings about his acting. In his arrival, I felt he was a bad actor, too. Then, months passed by and I noticed that he wears a healing aid, I think, over one ear. A black one. And, I am not sure if it is indeed a hearing aid or perhaps, a hearing device for someone prompting his lines? I’m not sure at all what the situation is with him. Perhaps, he has difficulty memorizing – I don’t know. This is merely speculation on my part. With that said, I agree to what your wrote “his scenes where he showed vulnerability were absolutely top-notch, and I thought, “Hmmm, this guy really CAN act!”” Yes! He has his moments where he scares Laura and Genie Francis really reacts when he gets in her face. She like jumps backward a bit. She plays it so well. He frightens her and ME!

As for Max Gail, what did he ever do to you? Lol. He’s just lovely.

Hi Jeremy!

Yes, I have met James Patrick Stuart when he was a guest at one of the “Hollywood Shows” in Los Angeles. He was very friendly, and it was really nice to meet him. I live in Las Vegas, so I try to attend that autograph show whenever I can. Where do you call home?

Max Gail has never done anything to me. LOL He is lovely, and he’s a very good actor. I just never got interested in that story.

I started recording “Days” and “Y&R” again, but as the number of episodes of GH continues to grow on my DVR, I keep deleting “Days” and “Y&R.” LOL I was curious to see Jackee Harry on “Days.” I’m not really hearing about any fireworks on “Y&R.”

EJ is finally returning to “Days”? They’ve been alluding to that for years. Is Sami also coming back?

The current Head Writer on “Days,” Ron Carlivati, has jumped around different soaps. I know when he was writing on “GH,” many fans did not enjoy his storylines. I guess he started off strong, but it’s interesting that “Days” did not receive an Emmy nomination for Writing this year and that a lot of fans are complaining about the writing. I wonder if Carlivati’s “Days” are numbered now. LOL

Hey Scott, JPS sounds like a lovely fellow. And, I reside in Los Angeles. btw- if you stop with deleting DAYS from your DVR (LOL)… you’ll definitely get why myself and others feel very unsatified with the writing and storylines over at DAYS. I hope Ron’s DAYS are numbered but I doubt it. He and the show definitely did NOT deserve an Emmy Nomination for Ron and his writing crew. And, I was pleased that the Emmy judges didn’t recognise them.

And, yes, EJ is returning (a recast), there’s a post about it on this website (LOL). He is scheduled to debut on June 9th. And, yes indeed, Sami and Lucas have returned full-time to the show.

And to add my opinion about Jackee Harry and her daughter,
Chanel, it’s been a MISS for me since Harry’s debut. I’m not feeling it with them. I’d rather have Valerie (Eli’s mother), in story, full-time. That’s my take.

Catch up on GH, man! It’s getting GOOD, finally!

I totally agree, Jeremy. I miss Will & Sonny too. What an egregious misuse of power letting them go. Not only was the story important and relevant, but these two had real chemistry. When Will would casually stroke Sonny’s hair and give him that naughty smile, my air conditioner would kick on!

Where is the Lead Actress Nomination for Amelia Heinle, and Lead Actor.for Peter Bergman, whose acting was superb, when his mother Dina Merger, whose passing last winter, on screen was the best work ever. At least they did recognize
Marla Adams, with a nod. They should just send her flowers and the Emmy in a box already…….she get my vote…….as always I think Eric Braeden should have been nominated this year and last year……he is the glue that holds the show together…….

Eric Braeden won’t submit himself for consideration anymore as he considers the Emmy’s a joke.

Well, Y&R now has one Emmy win for which they were the only nominee.

B & B Actress is JMW and Matthew Atkinson are the best on that soap Emmy’s for both

Sorry to be negative, but…

Highway robbery: No Matthew Atkinson.

Laughable: Steve Burton’s one-note performance.

Tiresome: Maurice Benard’s storylines expressly tailor-made for such nominations.

Tiresome: Take 2: Max Gail — see above.

Tiresome: Take 3: Bryton James, every year, even when there is little storyline.

DOOL appropriate: Only soap NOT nominated in writing (for writing so, so bad). And it’s my regular, favorite soap.

Laughable is right! That’s what I thought, too. Would love to hear your commentary, James about some of the other acting categories. You mentioned you watch DAYS a lot, how did you feel about their questionable nominees… and, how did you feel about GH and their 17 nominations? Better yet, take a look at my post and what I have to offer… I was quite critical/negative, myself. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Jeremy! Thanks for the backup! By now, you’ve probably seen my other reply after your category-by-category analysis. But I did realize I forgot to more directly address your questions for me. So I am pleased with the nominations for Tamara Braun and Wally Kurth. I like Victoria Konefal, too, but just how “young” is she?!?! (I know I can google it, as well as the age range for the category, but you get my point.) As for the “Guest Performer” category — and I appreciate your discussion of said category — glad to see three DOOL nominees there. I am pulling for Cady McLain and wish she could keep the role… I know you love GH — and lord knows, so did I for a long time — so I will just tactfully say that they should consider themselves blessed to have so many nominations…

Hi James, I am definitely rooting for Cady McClain for a win as Jennifer Horton, DAYS. I hope DAYS/NBC sees that this Emmy-nominated actress is a pure gem and I hope we see Jennifer return to Jack and Salem real soon. But, sadly… it will probably be when Abigail returns.

“right’ outa the gate : ^^^^ “Highway robbery: No Matthew Atkinson. ”

he mesmerizes ! i don’t think @B&B has seen any thing like it. at least in a very long time. I posted, i wish , had he been about 5-10 years older… he would have been the PERFECT @EJ @DAYS of OUR Lives. DANG IT !!!!

BOFFO performance by this MAN

Hey Patrick! Great to see you here! Thank you for the backing. I appreciate your expanding on Atkinson. His acting was remarkable. And he would be a great EJ! Cheers!

Jamesj75, I completely agree with your assessment and would only add that DZ’s nomination as Dante must be a colossal joke on us. He’s a supporting role at best and had nothing remarkable this year. Meanwhile the gorgeous and brilliant Matthew Atkinson is passed over again. Not to mention Mark Grossman as the wily, complex Adam Newman, certainly a more challenging role than the catatonic Jason Morgan. This category is very suspect to me.

Lead Actress got the nominees right. If the GH nominees cancel each other out, JMW will win. Quality-wise, Genie Francis deserves the award.

Lead Actor. DZ, seriously? Back on the show for 5 months,? Not really driving story. Heck, Dante couldn’t even complete his one mission. DZ is good actor, but Dante is definitely a supporting character. Great to see Wally nominated in lead, although Ned is definitely his stronger role.

Supporting Actress – where in the world is Lisa LoCicero and Kathleen Gati? Love every time we see Carolyn Hennessy, but what meaty material did Diane have over Olivia and Liesl?

Since Max Gail already won for Mike, JPS deserves this for turning around a fairly unlikable character into one that seamlessly fits into almost any scene.

Nice to see Briana Lane’s run acknowledged. She stepped headfirst into a front burner story and made the audience forget she was a temporary recast. This award will likely go to Delaney, however.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I am feeling quite fine with the nominees for Lead Actress, and am definitely rooting for Genie Francis for the Win. Yeah, in my post, I, too, noted DZ’s nomination for Lead Actor as Dante (GH)… makes NO sense. I agree, he’s totally been a supporting player since his return.
However, I was shocked that Wally Kurth (Justin) was nominated for Lead Actor, he’s totally Supporting, half-time on DAYS and half-time on GH and Justin is just a bore – dating Bonnie Lockheart!!! And, working occasionally as a lawyer. Like you said, as Ned on GH, he is stronger.
I would have accepted a Lead or Supporting Role nomination for him for GH. He’s so much more dynamic on GH right now and this past year. (You can read my reasons in my own post, if you wish).
And, yes, I also noted the SNUB for Lisa Lo Ciero (Olivia, GH). She was robbed for Supporting Actress. Carolyn Hennessy could’ve been entered for Guest Performer category, I suppose. She is not Supporting. Great post Steve.

Jeremy

I hope , the panel of voters… recall all the brouhaha of Cady McClain, even daring, to assume Melissa Reeves’ role’ Jennifer Horton. it was so effortless, and she brought so much personality, moxie, and just a delight to see her laugh, mixing it up w/ other cast mates… AND gave her co-star matthew Ashford , some of his best stuff… WHAT A MAN, who knew? I truly hope , w/the two year renewal… that Cady McClain MUST RETURN. EMMY HER

It’s insane that GH has more than twice the number of nominations than all 3 of the other shows combined! 16 acting nominations for GH, 6 for Days, and 4 each for B&B and Y&R.

I am rooting for GH to win for Series, Directing, writing, Actress (Francis or Grahn), Supporting Actor (Stuart); Days to win Actor (Kurth), Younger Performer (Konefal), and Guest Performer (McClain); and Y&R to win for Supporting Actress (Adams). But I am predicting Benard and Gail to repeat their 2018 wins this year, which I don’t agree with at all.

The new nominating system benefited GH in a big way. Eliminating the 2nd round of voting helped GH to a huge number of acting nominations.

Least favorite nomination is Jeff Kober – I just don’t get it, I find Cyrus one of the least interesting villains ever! Days got robbed of quite a few nominations they deserved, particularly in Supporting Actor.

No writing nomination for Days must mean they submitted the wrong episodes. I would have thought they would have submitted the flashback week episodes concerning Adrienne’s death.

I know many think JMW will win Best Actress – perhaps, but I really hope a GH actress wins this year!

two NODS (salute)

1. Wally Kurth. has shared that @DAYS will always hold that special part in his daytime tenure. AND not to misunderstand, Wally Kurth, (DAG ! i love him, i put him in the marriage material category and leave it at that) has proven what a quality guy his talent REELS respectively for ALL the fans . I’m ecstatic that his work with the death scenes of his supercouple wife, Adriene , is acknowledged. two huge shows, two huge parts, @GH Quartermaine’ – @DAYS Kiriakis. how does one guy , sexy guy, top shelf

YEP – he does both with such aplomb. Boffo to Wally Kurth

2. James Patrick Stuart. YES YES YES, my studmuffin will always walk red carpet and lauded as always deserving of his “work” he seamlessly effortlessly and continually contributes his share of performance’. it’s amazing to me how @GH writers.. who are so dependent on Maurice Benard and Steve Burton, that they will forego the rest of the cast to prop Sonny , Carly , and jason, w/Michael and Josselyn (christ ! they just bore ). nevertheless Valentin REELS . god they will even bog him down with the lesser , to help prop, ie: Brook Lyn.

i much prefer to say Ned/Justin AND Valentin… respectfully, two highly prized and much sought after

you think?

LOL – i forgot… oy watching JMW languish a dismal hearty laugh at her opiod addiction ??? OK even if the covid resctriction were not in place… i don’t think she could have pulled it off. so for her to be nominated AGAIN? ??? Jesus! let’s build up a new leading lady

SPEAKING OF : i’m dancing , i’m dancing, just dancin ‘ NO heather tom AND NO’ Laura Wright. “thank you very much”

Marla Adams better win this year. I was not happy when she lost last year.

Full disclosure: I watch Days Of Our Lives and General Hospital only. So, naturally, I favour those soaps.
I have to say, it is IMPRESSIVE that GH received 17 nominations!!!! 17!!!! Followed by DAYS with 7, and the both CBS soaps, 5 each respectively. In my opinion some of the DAYS nominations are questionable because of horrific writing and story-telling. I didn’t expect DAYS to have much nominations, I think the DAYS nominations for acting awards are questionable. I’ll detail with each category that I will be commenting on.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
The Bold and the Beautiful
Days of Our Lives
Genera Hospital
The Young and the Restless

*I believe General Hospital will win Outstanding Drama. GH is getting better, the acting is quite superior.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Melissa Claire Egan – The Young and the Restless
Genie Francis – General Hospital
Nancy Lee Grahn – General Hospital
Finola Hughes – General Hospital
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood – The Bold and the Beautiful

*I believe Lead Actress will go to Genie Francis. While, I haven’t seen clips from the other actresses on the CBS, it’s Genie’s for the win. Reasons: the explosion with her daughter Lulu, the incredibly chilling scenes with Cyrus, Laura’s storylines are on fire… finally! Nancy Lee Grahn has been fantastic as usual, but I see the fright in Genie’s face with confronted with Cyrus’ outbursts towards his sister. I see more range with Genie. I am glad that Laura Wright wasn’t nominated, and as much as I adore Ava West, she seemed more Supporting this past year. On GH, for me, the 3 leads were Genie, Nancy, and actually Laura. But we are looking for the Best of the best, and I adore Finola, too, but good twin/bad twin, is so over done in soaps. It gets old. Go Genie, but perhaps, one of the CBS actresses will win, instead but I’m definitely rooting for GENIE.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Maurice Benard – General Hospital
Steve Burton – General Hospital
Thorsten Kaye – The Bold and the Beautiful
Wally Kurth – Days of our Lives
Dominic Zamprogna – General Hospital

*This category is curious with some of the contenders. I will say I am not a fan of the Sonny character, however, he has so much range that he offered this past year, from mob-boss, to losing his father Mike, to losing his memory – which we see a completely different side of “Mike” working at The Tano and working opposite of Cynthia Watros – which is very very interesting. I’m sorry, Steve Burton may have earned an Emmy for his work on Y&R, but the guy is ‘Cold Stone’ and is boring! Don’t get me started on Wally Kurth, he is a fine actor, but dating Bonnie and being a lawyer this past year has been a snooze. This past year, there were no worthy DAYS leading men, especially with so such horrible writing. And, Dominic for LEAD actor, the guy just returned in August/September and he should’ve submitted for Supporting. It’s Maurice’s for the win.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Marla Adams – The Young and the Restless
Tamara Braun – Days of our Lives
Carolyn Hennesy – General Hospital
Briana Nicole Henry – General Hospital
Courtney Hope – The Bold and the Beautiful

*So, I am a big Tamara Braun fan, from GH (as Carly #2, to Kim Nero), Tamara just recently returned to DAYS as Ava Vitali. I am always memorised in her scenes. She is just so believable. I think she won last year for the same category for Kim on GH. Now, as much as we love Carolyn Hennesy, she is NOT a Supporting cast member, they bring her on when Sonny, now Carly needs help with mob business. Sure Diane has been in lots of scenes with Nancy. But, where the hell is LISA LO CICERO (Olivia Quartermaine) – her scenes, looking for Dante and being reunited with Dante and dealing with Ned’s affair and dealing with Brook Lynn. She was SNUBBED. Good for Briana Nicole Henry as Jordan, she’s great and I like her but I don’t get enough range from her. From my understanding Marla Adams dealt with Alzheimer’s disease?… like Max Gail (Mike) on GH. Perhaps, she will win. I’m rooting for the complex yet loveable Tamara Braun.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Darin Brooks – The Bold and the Beautiful
Max Gail – General Hospital
Bryton James – The Young and the Restless
Jeff Kober – General Hospital
James Patrick Stuart – General. Hospital

*Ok, I could maybe see Wally Kurth for Supporting nod but for GH. Reasons: cheating on Olivia with Alexis, and kicking Brook Lynn out of the house (even though it’s Monica’s house)… anyhow, he didn’t make the cut for this one. I think Max Gail should win, brilliant job watching Mike transitions with his Alzheimer’s disease – final story. I think Jeff Kober – Laura’s frightening, despicable brother could win. As much as I adore James Patrick Stuart… he lost Nina, bonded with Anna over Peter, and thinks he’s going to be a Daddy again. I don’t think James will win, no real compelling storyline for him. GH should be giving his meaty juicy storylines. Perhaps, Bryton James will win this award again, didn’t he win last year? Go Max Gail.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES
Tahj Bellow – General Hospital
Victoria Konefal – Days of Our Lives
Alyvia Alyn Lind – The Young and the Restless
Katelyn MacMullen – General Hospital
Sydney Mikayla – General Hospital

Ok, Tahj (T.J., GH) is a really good actor, however he isn’t featured enough, neither is his domestic partner, Molly. Victoria (Ciara) is a fan-favourite because of CIN. Her acting is sometimes inconsistent – horrible story of her “death”, then that Romeo and Juliet BS was gawd-awful with Ben – locked in a glass cage and also Alice Looking through the Looking Glass or whatever, she was so over-the top, thanks to horrific writing over at DAYS. I understand Alyvia just left Y&R and was quite good? Katelyn (Willow) has no range and she bores me. Sydney (Trina, GH) is quite good on GH. Missing from the category – previous winner: Ex-Claire, DAYS, Olivia Rose Keegan. Don’t get me started on the new Claire. Olivia we miss you. This will be an interesting category to see who wins, since they have changed this category to include both females and males. Odds are in favour of a GH winner. But, perhaps, Alyvia will win. I don’t know her work, I have just read great reviews about her.

OUTSTANDING GUEST PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES
Kim Delaney – General Hospital
George DelHoyo – Days of Our Lives
Briana Lane – General Hospital
Cady McClain – Days of Our Lives
Victoria Platt – Days of Our Lives

*This will be the final category, I comment about. It’s a weird mix. I am shocked that, not one, but two temporary recasts for Brook Lynn (GH) and Jennifer Horton (DAYS) are included. While I think they both did equally well-deserving work while filling as a Temp Recast, I don’t see Temp Recasts as a Guest Performers. I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen a TEMP Recast in this GUEST PERFORMER category before. With that said, I hope Cady McClain wins, Lol. I really hope Cady McClain returns to DAYS as Jennifer and soon. Kim Delaney is a GUEST PERFORMER. As is George DelHoyo and, I suppose Victoria Platt. Interesting choices to say the least.

Thanks for reading my remarks. I look forward to reading other responses. June 25th will be a great night for General Hospital and its fans.

Jeremy

I’m hoping for a GH sweep and yes I’m being bias, lol, but to answer your question regarding Lisa LoCicero as Olivia being robbed, as much as I love everyone on GH, that’s how big of a fan I am, I don’t think she was robbed, while acting is subjective, I find her performance way over the top, even in situations that don’t warrant being over the top over, she’s a little extra if you ask me, and come on the character has lived in Port Charles for ever, she should have a pc accent, not Brooklyn accent, lol, I’m just kidding, about that, I just finding it funny that the only character that lost their accent on GH was Mac Scorpio, who doesn’t come close to sounding Aussie, like Jax and Robert. But I’m still happy with GH impressive 21 nominations, especially after years of YR always have so many nominations.

Jeremy, what great and thorough analysis! Kudos to you for taking the time to expand on these particular categories. You make a lot of great points, and I can’t really disagree with any of them. Thanks for asking about my further input as well, which follows:

I am a huge Genie Francis fan. Even though at times I liked Anthony Geary, I was resentful when he kept getting nominated for, and winning, Emmys, while Genie was largely ignored. And don’t get me started on how, over the years, she was shabbily treated by TPTB at GH, in stark contrast to the treatment of Geary. That said, she is a terrific actress who deserves more Emmy love.

I also agree with your take on Tamara Braun, another amazing actress who shines in every role.

I, too, enjoy(ed) Cady McClain’s work on DOOL and I am hopeful she will return as a regular cast member.

I do like Wally Kurth, but I agree that his DOOL work doesn’t really fit in the “Lead Actor” category, and this past year, the Justin storyline hasn’t been compelling.

To sum up my previous commentary, I think that Emmy voters are often lazy and just vote for the same actors year in and year out, based solely on name recognition and past performance. They seemingly fill out their ballots with what seems natural, totally ignoring what has happened on the soaps in the past year. So a breakout, Emmy-deserving performance (Matthew Atkinson) is overlooked while phone-it-in performers, sometimes with little storyline, continue to get nominated…

Take care, Friend!

Great analysis Jeremy. One thing for everyone to keep in mind is the Daytime Emmy nomination period is on a calendar year. Basically, anything that happened after Jan 1 will be considered for next year’s nominations.

Disappointed not see Sharon Case, Maura West, Peter Bergman, and Beth Maitland among nominees… but hooray for some who did make the list: Genie Francis, Marla Adams, Courtney Hope, and Carolyn Hennessy. Interesting that DOOL received no writing nomination.

I’m definitely rooting for Courtney Hope formerly of the B&B and now with The Young and the Restless. She is terrific and a great character actress. From what I have seen of her performances she could do anything she put her mind to. Love this actress ❤️

Kara…I really like Courtney, too. I think she got royally screwed in B&B by Diamond Bill. Don’t like how Y&R is setting her up now as the possible bad girl. It was kinda fun seeing her talk with her Grandma for encouragement , the way she used to when she was the blooming designer, Sally Spectra. That’s who I want to see again.

I can’t say I’m surprised by the lack of noms for Y&R and B&B. Both shows were horrible this past year. The only nom that didn’t happen was Matthew Atkinson of B&B for playing Thomas’ brain injury so superbly. Perhaps the industry was punishing both shows for not getting back to pre-covid type scenes quicker than the other two shows. B&B was the laughingstock of the industry with them using mannequins in scenes for kissing and hugging.

I’m very happy with all the GH nominations. Genie Francis, Finola Hughes and Nancy Lee Grahn are all very deserving in the Lead Actress category. I’m pulling for Genie, with Finola a close second. It’s been 14 years since her last win for Genie, 30 years for Finola, either ladies winning would be a great story and long overdue.

Always glad to see Maurice Benard make the list. He got to show a different side of his acting range in the Alzheimer’s story, and deserves any accolades thrown his way. He won in 2019 which is why he may not win this time, voters may feel that they already rewarded him for this storyline.

Supporting Actor, I’m glad to see Jeff Kober and James Patrick Stuart get nominated, maybe next year, fellas! This award is all Max Gail. The way he portrayed Mike’s gradual decline all the way until his death was one of the finest performances I’ve ever seen in my life, and as real and raw as it gets. It was an acting master class. Max deserved it in 2019 when he won previously, he deserves it again.

A few of the GH nominations are head scratching to say the least, like Dominic Zamprogna in the Lead Actor category, and Carolyn Hennesy getting a Supporting Actress nomination. Love her as Diane, but she’s barely on the show. If they were going to nominate another GH actress in that category, you have Maura West, Lisa LoCicero, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, among others that would have been deserving.

I’m also very disappointed that once again William Lipton was snubbed for a nomination as Cameron on GH. He is one of the best young actors in the genre today, and continues to get better and better each year. I don’t know what the poor kid has to do to get a nomination.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES

Tahj Bellow – General Hospital
Victoria Konefal – Days of Our Lives
