Chandler Massey Talks More On The DAYS WilSon Departure On The Freddie & Alyssa Show

Photo: JPI

As promised by Freddie Smith (Sonny, DAYS) earlier in the week, his on-screen co-star,  Chandler Massey (Will)  was the special guest on the Freddie & Alyssa Show.  The podcast spend most of the episode giving Chandler and Freddie’s perspective of what happened and how they found out how they were being written-off Days of our Lives as beloved couple, WilSon.

While Freddie and Chandler do not in any way reveal what happens in the final six episodes they taped, or what was contained in the scripts, Chandler expressed  that it wasn’t until they received the six and final script of their promised six episodes, when the show resumed production after its long hiatus, that they realized what was happening.

During the podcast, both men talked about their disappointment of being written-off the show; saying that have always been good employees doing what the soap had been required and requested of them throughout their time on the NBC daytime drama series.

Check out more below on the podcast.

So, what do you think of the sentiments shared by Freddie and Chandler in this discussion on their departure from DAYS? Comment below.

You know..many actors have been written off and later return…just no story for them at the moment and could change later…im not going to loose sleep over an exits…hey, Will and Sonny could remarry then go around the world for their Honeymoon and return a year later when needed again???

The only issue with the “no story” thing is that they were in the middle of a story when this decision was made. According to the guys, their story was quickly reworked with no resolution, and now they’re saying goodbye for the time being. I’m guessing it won’t make a whole lot of sense when it airs, unfortunately.

True that, Jimmy—-losing one’s job on soaps is really not losing one’s job.
My question is—–how will Sonny and Will be ushered out. Overseas job, via order of uncle Vic’s?
I assume Gabi was given a free pass from prison —–otherwise Ariana would be left “blowing” in the wind.
Sarah should have been let go. I can’t take much more of her—FF.

my problem with Sarah-whom i did like at first-but now im loosing interest is that she fast changes men too quickly and overplays her scenes!!!..she always looks too sourpuss!!!

Still can’t fathom this. Maybe they’re being pressured by some religious entity? Chandler and Freddie are wonderful actors, apparently loyal and good sports, talented, sexy off the charts, and I’m appalled by their non-renewals. With Casey going too, there’s not any fantasy fire left for me. Sayonara Salem!

I’ll go ahead and say it – there’s a certain executive producer at Days who is known to have an issue with gay characters and stories. Why the show or network won’t do anything about him having the power to make decisions over those entities is beyond me. And I’m with you, Days without WilSon is not worth my time.

This is my understanding as well. I suppose until someone of prominence from the show makes a public statement, it will continue.

Well, whoever has these issues with gays, needs to step down his high horse posthaste, if true. Someone so out of touch with life has no place as a writer ANYWHERE. Sonny and Will are my favorite characters on Days.

You know, Celia, the hypocrisy here is overwhelming. So, they’d prefer “straight” people sleeping their way through greater Salem than a mature, devoted gay couple? Religious beliefs are one’s own but should have no place in this process. I always love having my morals determined by Hollywood producers, don’t you?

Oh, I agree, Soaphound. I am very sensitive wnen it comes to homosexuality—–meaning that my best friend ( other than my husband and siblings) is gay. We have been friends since we were babies and I always knew he was gay.
I have his back and his husband’s back as well—–
When I hear such ‘talks’ , which may go on backstage, my blood boils. Is ignorance truly bliss?

PS—-I do believe that Hollywood’s de-escalated idea of high morals are synonymous to those of canines.
This hypocritical ‘clan’ stands on the high pulpit, orating its infallible, sainted above-all-others beliefs, telling one and all to purge his/her sins; while they sit on their tainted, filthy laurels.
No one dictates my morals to me. I ain’t no hypocrite. So, our thinking is in sync, my friend.

Ben is still on the show. He’s plenty hot!

START OFF

Woah, the beard

YOU are Hot

I am sorry to learn this news as these characters/actors are among my favorites on DOOL. Will never understand why daytime drama seems just being left to die. Genre is vital and worth of attention and evolution. Guess we shall see what happens. DAYS has seen a number of reboots in last decade, but the latest may be last straw for me. We shall see what happens.

Days also let go Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn at one point during one of their budget cutbacks…they’ll be back.

I understand actors loose their jobs but what I don’t understand is how they found out the way they did. Same thing happened to Judi Evans. Whoever is in charge of that stuff should be fired!! Now we can see why Days is failing miserably.

Pathetic. Yes, it is a business and you sometimes have to make tough decisions — as both actors admitted. For me, my disgust with this story is focused on how it was handled. Just show people some respect and kindness when you are firing them. Why is this so difficult to do? Seriously, letting actors read about their characters leaving the show in a script is so lame!

I enjoyed the podcast. Interesting to hear about the contract negotiations, finding out their characters were dropped, etc. I watched their story occasionally through the years. I was surprised they thought they had the first gay love scenes in daytime. Haven’t they heard about Luke, Noah, and Reid? Much more interesting characters and it wasn’t that long ago. I still miss As the World Turns. Chandler and Freddie talk about wanting their characters to have more depth, e.g., alcoholism, drugs. That character was Luke Snyder. It’s sad they never got to play that kind of character.

That’s so true, Paul. Luke & Noah were HOT. I still remember their “first time” scene, ripping each other’s clothes off. This was a really slow-build love story and all the more gratifying for it. I had a major crush on Jake Silberman. Noah was kind of goofy and awkward at times, which made him even more lovable.

Patrick Muldoon and Jennifer Taylor Cast as Mike Manning’s Conservative Parents on ‘The Bay’

The ever-expanding cast of the streaming soap opera, The Bay, has announced two new additions for its upcoming 9th season, including Days of our Lives favorite Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin Reed). TV fans also know Patrick Muldoon from his role as Richard Hart on Melrose Place.

In story, The Bay will bring Caleb McKinnon’s parents into the mix. Caleb is played by Daytime Emmy-winner and Outstanding Supporting Actor nominee this year, Mike Manning.

According to Deadline, Muldoon, along with Jennifer Taylor (Two and a Half Men), will play Caleb’s ultra-conservative parents. When Caleb married Daniel Garrett (Eric Nelsen), they all but abandoned him.  The season looks to bring a major story for Manning and hopefully and eventually love and acceptance from Caleb’s parents.

The casting news doesn’t stop there. Rhonda Ross has been tapped to play Colleen Givens, the biological mother of Pete Garrett’s (Kristos Andrews) wife Vivian (Karrueche Tran) in the new season.

Coleen is brought into the mix when Pete searches for Colleen after Vivian becomes ill. In the backstory, Colleen is a jazz singer who gave Vivian up for adoption at birth. Now she may be Vivian’s only hope to stay alive.

The series is up for 5 Daytime Emmy nomination at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7th including: Outstanding Drama Series, Writing,  Directing, A Martinez (Nard0) for Supporting Actor and the aforementioned Manning.
