GENERAL HOSPITAL: Carly Admits To Sonny She Was Falling Back In Love with Jason

Courtesy/ABC

On Friday’s episode of General Hospital, Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) finally had the “talk”.  You know, the one about what Sonny really walked in on the night he “returned from the dead” on Carly and Jason’s (Steve Burton) wedding night?  Yeah, that one.

Sonny has already had a conversation with Jason, where Jason admitted he was starting to fall again for Carly, even though they were originally getting married to show a united front for the five families.

Now coming to confront Carly, Sonny is at first greeted by her with “Mike’s” cowboy hat, where she says the man he was in Nixon Falls is a mystery to her. Sonny tells her he spoke with Jason and so Carly is compelled to admit that she and Jason would have slept together on their wedding night, if Sonny hadn’t shown up alive and in the bedroom!

Sonny’s clearly upset about his best friend and his wife getting so close and rekindling their old feelings. Carly tells Sonny that, at first, Jason and she were just going through with the wedding for show, but later, they decided to make it a real marriage, and were falling in love.

When Sonny poses the question to Carly, if she has any residual feelings for Jason, she says they have gone back to being best friends, and how much she loves Sonny.  Carly points out that Nina (Cynthia Watros) did this to them – she kept them apart for nine months – and so much has happened that it’s been difficult for them to be together as it was in the past because of it.

In the end, despite what Nina had perpetrated on them, Carly and Sonny come to an agreement that they need to rebuild their relationship.  But the cowboy hat looms as we fade to black.

Clearly, the Jason and Carly relationship and almost consummating it on their wedding night, is not sitting well with Sonny; plus Sonny seems to continue to not really tear into Nina for her deception as much as someone would if he didn’t also have feelings for her.

So, what do you hope happens next? Do you want Sonny and Carly to work things out? Do you hope Sonny sleeps with Nina? If he does, and Jason goes back to Britt (now that they are going on another adventure together to locate Liesl) is Carly ultimately the odd woman out?  Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.

The story doesn’t work for me because of how much Sonny is overlooking the type of woman Nina was before Nixon Falls what she did to Ava regarding his daughter Avery, etc Sonny the family man should never want to be with a woman that kept him knowingly from his kids & Carly. Carly & Jason tried to talk themselves into being in love. Jason & Britt have tons of chemistry & I hope Carly/Sonny fall even more in love causing delusional Nina to finally go over the edge.

I can answer all these questions with a firm “I don’t care.” Yeah, I’d like Britt to get a break in the romance dept., but she deserves better than to play second fiddle to Queen Carly. And no, I don’t want Sonny or Mike to hookup with Nina either. This story is like a desiccated orange.. all the life was drained out months ago.

I want Jarly. They have been endgame since 1999. But if they do a Brittstop on the way to Jarly, I’ll just cross my fingers for an immediate death to Carson. Carly should drop the Corinthos name and start a Spencer revival. Go into business with Ms. Wu :):)

Carly confessing is the direction the story is going to have Sonny and Nina doing the nasty, finally.
I liked Nina and Sonny/Mike it was a breath of fresh air.
Carly and Sonny had worn out long ago. yawn–
About time for a great shake-up..
But the end game will be Sonny and Carly, no doubt about that happening, sigh..
* Out with the old in with the new.*
it’s desperately needed for my viewing pleasure ..

I don’t know how it will work out but I really don’t want to see Nina and Carly in an actual fight over this Napoleonesque man. I like Sonny, but God’s gift to women, he’s not. If I was forced at gunpoint to pick he or Mike, it would be Mike and the ladies that agree will know why.
Sorry if I didn’t use the word Napoleonesque correctly, so feel free to let me know.

Violet…I don’t know if you used the word right but I’m for team Mike. But let’s wait and see how “Mike” actually changes Sonny, who was never God’s gift to me. But as long as he is a mobster I want Nina to stay away from him. Don’t want her to try to “fix” him.

rose,
I do understand what you are saying, but let’s face it, Sonny is not going anywhere and I do believe he and Nina will see more of each other and he will most likely feel more like Mike when he is with her. Who knows, eventually he may just like it better being Mike and quit the mob altogether.

My theory about the whole “Mike” thing is that Sonny didn’t know who he was, but subconsciously, he was playing his own father.

The name “Mike” is an obvious clue, of course. But he was also happy being a bartender…. as the real Mike was most of his life in Port Charles. And when Lenny & Phyllis were in financial jeopardy, “Mike’s” first impulse was “hey, where’s a card game, I’ll get you the money”. Gambling, was the real Mike’s favorite past time, of course. Though he wasn’t always successful at it.

Of course, Sonny had some of his own instincts intact, even without his identity. Like when he knew instantly that Elijah guy was a scumbag criminal. Or when he had reactions to meeting Jax or Whiny Heiny, even though he didn’t consciously remember them. At least this is consistent with past GH writing, like when Jason occasionally relies on the med school training he had before AJ scrambled his brains, and he can do an emergency tracheotomy or deliver a baby by C-section in an elevator.

Violet, Rose, I don’t know how long you’ve been watching the show; Sonny’s handsome now, but back in the day, he was FINE! And “Mike” was always a part of Sonny, it’s just with years of terrible writers we didn’t see him very often. But the “Mike” part of Sonny was the romantic that made good women like Brenda, Alexis, Connie/Kate and Olivia fall for him and the loving, generous, heartfelt “Mike” is why good girl Robin will always love and be loyal to Sonny. “Mike” is the one that took a kid of the street, gave him a home and a legit job, then supported him when he became HIV+ and paid for all his bills when he was diagnosed with AIDS. Mike’s the Sonny that kept his promise to Stone to look after Robin; he’s the one that dedicated and funds the Stone Cates AIDS Research center at GH. “Mike” is just that part of Sonny the writers have ignored for over a decade! But now that Sonny’s whole, he shouldn’t act any different, really. Whatever he shared with Nina for 9 months, should not compare to what he an Carly have shared (even when involved with others) for almost thirty years. And I can’t see chemistry with Nina, especially since she’s NUTS!

I can understand Nina being upset that Jax and Carly didn’t tell her about Nellle. But what did that knowledge change for Nina? Nothing. No one knew until after Nelle was dead, but Nina’s acting as if Carly’s the one that took her from Nina in the first place and not her mother. She’s upset because she thinks Carly let Nelle die, totally ignoring that Carly would have had every right to do so since about 5 minutes before Nelle fell, she was trying to kill Carly! Nina should be glad that Carly actually tried to pull Nelle up, I’d a let that bitch fall! And the excuse that she tried to tell Carly but Carly started yelling and telling her that she’s not going to let her see Wiley, so Nina got mad and decided to say nothing about Sonny being alive is, again, Nina seeing herself as innocent victim. She forgot that there was a very good reason Carly was so pissed off, because Nina went and told a 2 year old that the only mother he remembers, Willow, was NOT his mother and he got very upset! A normal person wouldn’t have done that. All she had to say was that she was his grandmother, he’s two, explanations aren’t necessary at this time! But, no, she tried to explain about Nelle (the “daughter” that, in reality, tried to kill his father, his grandmother, and his mother, Willow) as though Nelle was just a misguided youth and not a scheming psychopath!

This is just a wonderfully acted, terrible storyline, one of far too many over the years. If they wanted to give Sonny amnesia, let him forget his history with Carly and let he and Olivia get together. Much more drama because of their personal history, her friendship with Carly, and his history with the Q’s. But instead, as usual, boring won out.

I forgot to say that I really couldn’t believe Carly today when she told Sonny how long and hard they searched for him. For what, all of a week maybe,?

I was glad Carly and Jason admitted where their feelings were taking them on their wedding night to Sonny in record time for a soap instead of dragging this part of the story out. I want Jason with Brit. Not sure about Sonny and Nina because I think it has to be Mike to make them work. But I think there is still room for some kind of relationship. As for Sonny and Carly, they might stay together, but they will never be the same. And as Diana said, “there was always three in our marriage.”

This is definitely NOT the most interesting storyline on GH right now.

With the Drew and Liesl abductions, they’ve somehow snuck in a compelling umbrella storyline that involves at least a dozen characters. This should be the lead story right now. Cameron Mathison (and his abs) are a welcome edition as Drew.

The end of the stalker storyline is also more interesting. Maura West has helped elevate Nicholas Chavez’s performance. Mark Teschner (as usual) did a great job casting Spencer and Esme.

Time to move along the Portia/Curtis and Brando/Sasha stories. Although they come across nicely as a couple, Brando and Sasha could leave town without a mention and the show could seamlessly continue.

The new Spenser is a find, for sure but I still cannot feel comfortable with NuNick. Esme is fantastic. This actress owns every scene she is in! Personally, I think she is Ryan’s daughter.

Definitely Ryan’s daughter. Now they just have to make a plausible case for who her mother would be. I’m guessing Alex Devane. Since both she and Ryan once worked for the “DVX” (the GH version of the KGB) they probably knew each other. Esme could easily pass as Finola Hughes’ daughter.

Unfortunately this would also make her Whiny Heiny’s half-sister, and the last thing that idiot needs is more family ties.

I think Peter pecked his final pepper!

Timmm
I think Peter packed his peppers, not pecked, but your version is funnier.

Steve
I wouldn’t miss them either, but they better take that horrible Gladys with them. I’d never leave her alone with my baby , grandmother or not.

Gladys should have been in the Limo when it went bye bye!

I’d like to see Gladys and Carly trapped in a limo for an hour with Gladys constantly getting on Carly’s nerves. That’s the only reason to keep the character on.

Love or hate her, Bonnie Burroughs as Gladys definitely has presence.

The same people like Sonny , I like Gladys.

I want Sonny and Carly to work things out! Simply that! I realize there are people who dislike them, but they are by far my favorite couple on the show.

I am glad that they’re your favorite couple.

I loved how honest Carly and Jason were with Sonny about their feelings and their intentions. This rarely happens on a soap. What was really cool is the stories were told separately and they matched. These three are close and anything other than being honest to each other wouldn’t have jived with who these three are. Its a soap and Nina is also included in this variable so something bad is bound to happen. I just want Jason to be with Britt. Sonny and Carly will always find their way back to each other.

I love this story! I think they are playing all the beats and mining it for all it’s worth instead of “Oh, Sonny’s back. Now we can return to normal.” No you can’t. Normal was shot to pieces when Nina kept her secret all those months ago. There’s nine months of story for these characters to process. That doesn’t disappear in two days. I think everyone is doing a great job playing the fall out. And as a bonus, I’m so happy Phyllis is in PC. Hope she stays.

I do and have always loved Olivia. I’ve never seen her turn away from a problem or compound one as she has been lately. First with Ned who has been bending over backwards to make amends for his indescretion with Alex. I understand why she doesn’t want to accept the idea that her child could be Autistic, but she has to be blind to not see that her son has a problem. She is such a smart and insightful woman, but I want to just shake her. Also, why hasn’t Monica noticed anything strange about Theo, especially in contrast to the three other older kids living there, not including Wylie and the baby. I understand why she doesn’t want to believe Austin but Monica would be different. Also beside the other adults living there, why hasn’t Willow noticed this kid, she’s a teacher for goodness sake.

GH’s Adam J. Harrington Reveals the Behind the Scenes Story of Becoming John “Jagger” Cates

When Adam J. Harrington showed up on all-new episodes of General Hospital, it shocked viewers of the long-running ABC soap opera, because he was the recast John “Jagger” Cates.

The character was previously played more than 30 years ago by Antonio Sabato Jr., and as fans of the soap have seen, Harrington’s version of Jagger and his circumstances are quite different. As it turns out, Adam was in the dark at what GH role he would be eventually cast in.

Speaking with GH co-stars, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) on their Daily Drama podcast, Harrington shared the behind the scenes journey that led him to being the new version of John.

Photo: ABC

Adam shared, “I went into a chemistry read with Laura Wright (Carly) for a different character. I was told I wasn’t going to get the character, but hang tight, there’s something else. Then, that kind of took a couple of months and now we’re in December (2023), and then all of a sudden it was like, ‘here you go.'”

Once Adam was given a role on GH, he explained, “I still didn’t know who I was playing. I should have asked at that point. So the deal gets done, and I go, ‘By the way, who am I playing?'”

Photo: ABC

That’s the point where the GH powers-that-be let him in on just what he was about to take on. “They sent me a one sheet with John “Jagger” Kates in the description,” shared Adam. “It wasn’t until I went on YouTube and spent a good three or four days, watching all of Steve (Burton’s) storylines in the nineties (that I figured it out). By the way, they were fantastic. The production value … it was amazing the level of the acting, and the relationships you guys had. I really enjoyed it. So, that’s how I found out (about the character).”

Burton and Anderson asked Harrington about his thoughts on being a recast. “I thought it was important to go back to his circumstances and his upbringing, because that wouldn’t change no matter what he had become in the 20 or 30 or 70 years since we’ve seen him,” Adam shared. “I looked at what Antonio Sabato Jr. did and thought, ‘There was no way in hell I can even touch that or even come close, nor do I want to.’ The only thing I recognized was given his upbringing and what he’d gone through, it was a common sense of humor in there that’s either used defensively or as a way of getting through the world.”

Photo: JPI

As to how Adam should approach the part given it was a recast, he noted, “What I had been told from the brass is don’t worry about following that same emotional storyline. He’s gone away for a very, very, very long time, become successful and he’s come back. Basically, they were saying, you bring in you.”

Being part of the fabric of GH for awhile now, Harrington expressed, “I will say this about my experience so far. I am in absolute awe of the cast and the crew and watching how you do this on a train that refuses to stop. I said to a friend, ‘I’m on a train that’s going a hundred miles an hour, and they slow down to about 90 to kick you off after your scene is done.'”

So, what are your thoughts on Adam as John “Jagger” Cates after now seeing how the role has evolved and changed since its original version over 30 years ago? Comment below.

(INTERVIEW) William deVry Talks on His Roles in Hallmark’s ‘A Whitewater Romance’, New Film ‘Pocket of Hope’ and His Time on the Soaps

For soap favorite, William deVry life-after-daytime has been reinvigorating, filled with new projects and new directions. This Saturday, May 11th he can be seen in the latest rom-com from Hallmark, A Whitewater Romance (8pm ET/PT) starring Cindy Busby as Maya and Ben Hollingsworth as Matt who play intense business rivals, and featuring Will as Jim Burdett, set against the backdrop of the outdoors and Canada.

In addition, Wil has been busy prepping other projects in which he is executive producing and starring including: Colt & McQueen and Christmas in Bordeaux, and producing and starring in a very dramatic departure for deVry, as the lead in the new true-life story feature film, Pocket of Hope.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with Wil to get the lowdown on his latest and upcoming roles, his expanding career aspirations, and to get his reflections on his three main soap roles: Julian Jerome on General Hospital, Storm Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful and Michael Cambias on All My Children. Read on for what deVry has been up to of late and his reflections of the past.

Courtesy/Hallmark

In A Whitewater Romance, you play the character of Jim Burdett, tell me about him?

WIL: My character runs this whitewater rafting company and the deal is that there’s a corporate retreat that is organized at my company. Jim is sort of old school. He’s been running the company for quite a lot of years. Jim’s not social media savvy. In the story, Maya and Matt get there, and they end up obviously enjoying themselves at this corporate bonding retreat. They discover that Jim was going to close down the company. He stayed open specifically to accommodate this corporate retreat. And then, of course, Cindy Busby’s character, and Ben Hollingsworth character do this little online thing for Jim and get business booming. Before he knows it, the entire summer is booked with clients and they basically saved his company. It’s a feel-good movie with beautiful, stunning locations.

And, are you a good guy in this?

WIL: It’s almost like, wait!  Will is playing good guy? It’s funny because our director, Jason Bourque knows I’ve been playing bad guys for so long. Even the Christmas movie that I did with Terry Hatcher, Christmas at the Chalet, I went through such an arc. My character was so focused in his business and kind of unhappy because he was living his life for other people, and you don’t really realize that you might be slightly unhappy because you don’t take time to do inventory for yourself. In A Whitewater Romance, Jason had this idea that I was this really kind of ‘happy-go-lucky’ guy. And by the second day of shooting, he goes, “I think maybe Jim is a former military …” We both laughed because it was a subtle joke, because you know, I can be a little bit serious.

Photo: Willdevry

How was it to work with Ben and Cindy?

WIL: Great. Cindy being a lead, they set an example for everybody. Cindy is so low key and very friendly, and basically the trailer door is open if you want to discuss anything. Ben was also a producer on this. He might have had a little more stress on him than just sort of acting. But honestly, you couldn’t tell. Both of them had a good sense of humor. I would work with either one of them in a heartbeat again.

You have some exciting news to share; as you are about to be the lead in a new film?

WIL: Yes, I’m the lead in a new film called Pocket of Hope. It’s based on the true story of Chad Gaines, and I am playing Chad. It’s a beautiful movie. It’s in the present day with Chad talking with his daughter. He’s always been reluctant to share his past with her, and because there was a lot of trauma involved, he didn’t really want to put her through that. She’s no longer a young lady and so he feels now is the time to share that. There are a lot of strong flashbacks in the movie. It goes back between the past and the present, which I think is really engaging. The budget is well over a million dollars. We start filming at the end of May in Los Angeles, and then we will go on location in August to shoot the remaining scenes.

Courtesy/Willdevry

How do you feel about tackling a dramatic role such as this with tough subject matter?

WIL: It’s a heavy-duty role. There’s a lot of responsibility. I’ve prepared my whole life for these kinds of roles. It’s really exciting to play a true life individual, who has a story to tell. I think it’s a great honor for me and for the director/producer David Kohner Zuckerman, as well. David is wanting to do Chad’s story justice. We’ve got a good team for this. Robert Altman Jr’s, Cora Atlman, is playing my daughter. When you find a troupe that you like to work with and you can collaborate with, you stick together. So, we have David, as I mentioned and also Deran Sarafian, who is consulting on the project. Deran and I have been working on my other project together, Colt & McQueen. We are the luckiest people in the business right now to be working with Deran. He has had a lot of successful pilots that he’s done for Fox, ABC, and NBC and also Marvel and Netflix shows. He was also a producer on House for Fox.

Photo: Willdevry

In Colt & McQueen, you play a former LAPD detective, right?

WIL: Correct. He was basically dishonorably discharged for something that he didn’t do. He is going be trying to clear his name of any wrongdoings. However, in order to make a living, he sort of does these unsanctioned assignments for the captain of the LAPD, who is also on his way out. He’s a good guy. Kin Shriner (Scott, GH) is in it and he kind of plays a man of the streets who goes by “The Professor.” Rebecca Staab (Elizabeth, Port Charles, et al) is in it, and she plays the character with the code name “Leather Jacket” within the LAPD system. We go into production on it in July.

You’re doing your own projects now. That must be liberating in some ways and harder in others.

WIL: I just said, “Look, if I’m going to stay in this business, I have to have some control over my career now as opposed to just auditioning blindly.” That can be a frustrating process. I am learning a lot because I’ve never produced before or executive produced, but the effort is there, and the will to do so is there.

Photo: RStaabIG

Speaking of projects, you have another one you are working on, a romantic comedy called Christmas in Bordeaux. What is the theme of that one?

WIL: It’s a tale of family traditions, renewed passions, for love and life and spiritual and cultural awakenings. Finding value in the time we have left. And of course, a happy ending for all involved.

As an actor, when you finally get to the point where you get to act you probably really enjoy that. It’s just the challenges of all the things it takes to get there that can be daunting for a performer.

WIL: As an actor, you have to be so good and so comfortable and embrace the rejection. The rejection has to feed you. It can’t defeat you. However, I kind of do take everything personally. If a casting director doesn’t want to bring me in for something that’s their prerogative. I don’t really get angry about it, but I take it personally because I kind of feel like, they should bring me. I can’t just sit back and accept my fate based on other people’s ideas of what I’m capable of or not capable of. Sometimes my resume is a benefit, and sometimes it’s a detriment. It’s up to me to change the narrative.

Photo: JPI

What would you want to say to the GH fans who had been so supportive of you through the years?

WIL: It blows me away how loyal they are, and their passion. I want them to be of aware that. I’m excited to work for myself, and if that doesn’t work out, I am very comfortable going on to do something else with my life. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) and I had talked about it at one point, and how she absolutely loves the business. I have other things that interest me and move me. I hope every single fan of Julian Jerome comes along on this journey with me.

Photo: JPI

Looking back, do you think your best role on the soaps was Michael Cambias on All My Children?

WIL: I think with Michael Cambias that All My Children destroyed the character. I sat down with the executive producer at the time, Jean Dadario Burke, and she said, “You’ll be here as long as you want. We did a focus group and you’ve got a 96% approval rating. That’s through the roof.” Two days later, I was called back into her office as they had fired the head writer. I was told Megan McTavish was coming back and they were going to make my character irredeemable, which as everybody knows, Michael Cambias went on to do horrible things to Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) family and then he was off the show.

Photo: JPI

Then, you went on to portray Storm Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful and the heartbreaking suicide storyline which saved Katie’s (Heather Tom) life, but cost Storm his.

WIL: Storm had a lot of potential. When you’re going through such a beautiful, heart-wrenching, horrific story like that, I wanted to give the audience a lot of credit. Soaps have a smart audience. I wanted them to go on the journey with me. I didn’t want to ruin it for them by playing the problem. I didn’t want to create the drama before it was time to pay the price, if you know what I mean. I allowed it to play out on-screen without any foreshadowing. I think that’s why it worked and that’s why it broke everybody’s heart, and I think that’s why it won a Daytime Emmy for Best Drama Series. Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer, B&B) trusted me with a vehicle that ended up being the Ferrari for that year. I’m eternally grateful to him.

Photo: JPI

Do you ever check out General Hospital nowadays to see how your old castmates are doing and what is happening in Port Charles?

WIL:  I like to check in. I like to see what Kin Shriner (Scott) is up to, and I like to see who’s showing up and who’s going. I like to see Maura West (Ava) who is such a terrific actress and who played my on-screen sister. We had such a good working relationship and I hope she is on the show forever.  I was happy with my eight years on the show. I knew for 18 months it was time for me to leave. I knew in my heart the character was done. Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) was thrilled with how I left the show. Those six and a half years on General Hospital were a lot of fun. I really loved going to work.

So, will you be watching William deVry in ‘A Whitewater Romance’ this weekend on Hallmark? What do you think about his upcoming projects and roles? Miss him on daytime? Comment below.
