GENERAL HOSPITAL: Will Nina’s Guilty Conscience Ruin a Marriage Proposal From Sonny?

Photo: ABC

This week on General Hospital, Sonny (Maurice Benard) has a marriage proposal for Nina (Cynthia Watros).  However, she’s feeling the walls may be closing in on her when she regrets her actions against Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Carly (Laura Wright).  As GH viewers know, she had turned them into the SEC for insider trading as a revenge-tactic against Carly.

In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Sonny (Maurice Benard) is set to take a big step and ask Nina to marry him.  This, comes on the heels of Nina bowing out of attending Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) wedding, to keep the peace in the family, and letting him attend alone.

On the latest developments, Maurice Benard shared with SOD on the marriage proposal: “It’s not an immediate yes from Nina. I think because she’s already done the bad deed (of calling the SEC).  She’s trying to get out of it, so she doesn’t dig herself deeper.”

Previewing Sonny’s profession of love to Nina, the three-time Daytime Emmy winner said of the upcoming scenes: “That was my job as an actor, to convince her in this monologue that, ‘I don’t care about what you’ve done.’ He doesn’t care about anything but her, ‘and I love you, and let’s do this.'”

As to how he thinks Sonny’s proposal to Nina stacks up with others in his GH career, “I’m not saying this is the best, but I am saying it’s up there with the best that I’ve had.”

Of course, what will happen if Sonny finds out what Nina did to Carly with the SEC insider trading deception? Stay tuned.

Check out the promo for this week’s GH below, then let us know. Are you hoping Sonny and Nina get engaged? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

When the scenes air of when everyone finds out what Nina did, they are going to be pivotal because I know all the acotrs involved in those scenes will be on their A-game…can’t wait!!!

Better hide the weapons when the truth comes out. Nina will lose Willow for good and she can kiss any chance of ever seeing her other grandchild goodbye.
I don’t see Carly going back to Sonny though. If anything it’s going to bolster Carly and Drew’s bond.
I bet a drunk Martin let’s it slip and Diane finds out. My guess is Nina will want a fast wedding and it all comes out there.

Good. Hope Nina takes a hike and gives up on Twitto. However, Maurice’s acting has been quite elevated since his character hooked up with Cynthia’s Nina. When he proposed, his voice cracked and tears welled up in his eyes. Too bad he has awful, spoiled, self-entitled, bratty stepchildren.

Maurice has always been a great actor period! I just can’t do the Nina thing anymore, it’s sickening! The character, Nina is a waste of Cynthia’s talent!

You’re right

Harry I agree with you about Maurice doing a fine job.

Exactly. Carly is going to stop the wedding and Sonny will walk away from Nina. I didn’t like them together anyway.

I hope so !! Sick of Nina always blaming Carly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Carly and Drew commit a crime? This story is so lopsided and clumsy. The writers persist in propping up Carly as some kind of heroine when she’s really a terrible human being. I nearly screamed in my pillow when Drew complained to Carly,” Tracy does terrible things but never faces the consequences of her actions.” Um.. who is writing this crappolla? The writing is so bad that I do not dread the day when the results of the writers’ strike appears on the screen.

Good analysis Harry.

Also, why should Michael then be applauded for not turning over the proof of Sonny’s crime?

Carly is not a heroine. She’s a flawed individual that needs to face the consequences of her actions every once in a while.

Sonny needs to take his blinders off and see what a truly despicable person Nina is and always has been.

Shari,
That will hurt his ego to think how bad his judgement was.

Thank you!!

Nina is a flawed person who is doing the best that she can. There’s a reason why Sasha adores her. Sasha is the daughter Nina deserves but she ended up with an embittered Twitto, a former cult member who thinks she was better off with Harmony than with Nina. Harmony sex trafficked her minor daughter to a cult member who repeatedly raped and drugged her. Nina is guilty of giving into her overly protective maternal instincts.

Boy, that’s a stretch! Sasha also believes that Gladys has her best interest at heart and look what she is doing to her behind her hack!

Lew S,
Yes, after this, she’ll be afraid to trust anyone, just hope it doesn’t include Cody, I really like him but he’s so misunderstood.

Sonny is a mob boss yet he is looking so stupid believing and trusting Nina! This has gone on way too long!

Sylvia Bray,
With men, their brains and other organs think differently and being a mob boss doesn’t make a difference, if he was so smart, he wouldn’t be one in the first place.

I agree, Sonny needs to see the true Nina. She does cruel deeds then plays the victim and tries to justify. She wants to always blame Carly for all her actions.

Sonny’s been getting nothing but bad advice since they threw Jason under the bus again. There’s not a snowball’s chance in my back yard that this idiotic situation with Nina would have lasted this long, had Jason been around to give him a reality check.

Michael & Carly have tried to tell him, of course, but their opinions would obviously be seen as “biased”. Dante & Kristina are both being written out of character in their acceptance of Nina (Carly’s not their mom, so let’s pretend they can easily accept this stupidity). And Dex has no standing to tell Sonny’s he’s on the wrong track, since he wasn’t around to know what the right track was.

Ava should have reminded Sonny what Nina did to their daughter Avery when she was born, but her Nina blinders are even worse than Sonny’s, apparently.

These people are all crazy, I just can’t decide which one is the worst.
Speaking of Avery, can’t wait till she spills the beans all over everyone.

They better make Drew grovel at Ned’s feet when all is said and done. Drew and Carly aren’t going to jail, so hopefully Drew will have to give Aurora to Ned or something like that. As for Carly, I can’t think of a reasonable consequence or a realistic (on GH) one either, so she’ll get probation or something lame.

On answer to the above question, will Nina’s guilty conscience, etc,etc
My answer is Let’s hope so!

So having been a fan of Cynthia since her spin as Annie Dutton on Guiding Light, I’ve always wondered when things may go a bit “nuts”. Nina (then played by Michelle Stafford) was awful to Ava with the whole baby snatching situation. The character then took a softer side once Cynthia took over the role. She plays the victim well, but if she is the bio-mom to Nelle, we know that there are genetics involved. I can’t remember the recent scene on GH, but I saw some “Annie Dutton” showing her colors…

Margherita,
Oh, you are so right. We know darn well if the nasty Nelle ( a real Annie Dutton clone), were to come back tomorrow, Nina would be right there to defend against every horrible thing she’s done. I keep waiting for this day to come but hope it never happens. I’ve been thinking if Willow dies it would be just her thing to swoop in and kidnap Wiley with Nina’s help.

There will be a fully functional ski resort on Beelzebub Mountain before Sonny marries Nina. They have been writing Sonny out of character ever since Tricky Dick Nixon Falls. Sonny told Brenda she was “dead to him” when the Feds forced her to wear a wire.

Nina has done worse than that to him at least twice a week, every week. And what she has done to Carly & Drew this time around is the worst of all. It’s not only another betrayal of Sonny in this case, but also a betrayal of her own alleged daughter Willow, who she claims to love so much. Not only because Willow asked her to back off her vendetta against Carly (as if stealing her husband and her hotel wasn’t enough??) but also because Drew was just involved in rescuing Dr Ooblech from the clutches of Hell’s latest dragon stable attendant, Victor Cassadine, so she could provide the bone marrow which presumably has now put Willow on the road to recovery from leukemia.

Sure we can argue over Drew’s actual importance in that mission. But he was there… and that should count for something, compared to what Nina’s done to “help” Willow.. which ain’t much.

So enough already. It’s time to end the Tricky Dick Nixon Falls storyline for real.

And not a moment too soon!!!

I so agree!

NINA HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH TOO MUCH DIRT…SHE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HER MISDEEDS & WHAT SEEMS TO BE JOSSH PROBLEM WITH SONNY…HE IS TRYING TO STEER HER CLEAR OF A KILLER AS A BOYFRIEND.

I hope Nina secret is out soon. Her and sonny are a terrible couple. No chemistry!!! I feel bad for ned. I can’t wait till they realize he didn’t do it and have to apologize

How stupid are these people wouldn’t they realize that Ned didn’t do ot because he knew everyone would come after him

Crystal,
Yes, his own wife and mother don’t even believe him.Im sure Olivia will apologize with some damn Lasagna or whatever, I can’t believe that bitch Carley expected Olivia to throw Ned out of his own family home!

Crystal,
Poor Ned, even his wife and mother won’t believe or support him. Carly thinks Olivia should throw him out of his own family home, of all the unmitigated gall that bitch has!

I don’t want Sonny to marry Nina. She so messy. She really need to disappear.

Ewww! No Sonny doesn’t need to be with Nina since he clearly still in love with Carly. Yes they had a little romance in Nixon Falls, but he also thought he was a man named Mike (named after his deceased father). When he got his memory back in the fire, the first person he thought about was CARLY. Stop continuing this crappy story and let whining attention seeking Nina be by herself, while letting Sonny and Carly find their way back to each other. Quiet as it’s kept, Drew is boring and he’s no Jason (who definitely DID NOT need to marry Carly). Sonny is Carly’s forever. Let Carly and Sonny Reunite and be happy.

I hope Sonny dumps Nina. It seems like everyone including Nina has forgotten about her keeping Sonny’s entire family away from him for 9 months !!It’s always what Carly did, when she was always following Willows wishes.

I hope Sonny Doesn’t marry Nina! I can’t stand that conniving ugly insecure woman! I wish that Sonny and Carly get back together as they always have over the past 30yrs of watching. Because I’m at the point of not watching this soap opera anymore since Sonny has been with Nina. Ukkk

It will be drawn out till next mays sweeps smh at the alter

Looking forward to Tracy foiling whatever Drew and Carly try to do to her. Poor Ned not even his wife or mother believe him. ha ha I’m glad his daughter believes him at least. Nina, Carly and Sonny all deserve each other. Michael and Willow need to go to Paris permanently so we viewers won’t have to hear the name “Wiley” 50 times per episode. Joss and Spencer need to be banished to an island of entitled brats. Gladys and Selina need to face Sonny’s wrath.

Carrie,
Hey, you forgot that Joss and Spencer should take Trina and Dex with them.

GH’s Adam J. Harrington Reveals the Behind the Scenes Story of Becoming John “Jagger” Cates

When Adam J. Harrington showed up on all-new episodes of General Hospital, it shocked viewers of the long-running ABC soap opera, because he was the recast John “Jagger” Cates.

The character was previously played more than 30 years ago by Antonio Sabato Jr., and as fans of the soap have seen, Harrington’s version of Jagger and his circumstances are quite different. As it turns out, Adam was in the dark at what GH role he would be eventually cast in.

Speaking with GH co-stars, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) on their Daily Drama podcast, Harrington shared the behind the scenes journey that led him to being the new version of John.

Photo: ABC

Adam shared, “I went into a chemistry read with Laura Wright (Carly) for a different character. I was told I wasn’t going to get the character, but hang tight, there’s something else. Then, that kind of took a couple of months and now we’re in December (2023), and then all of a sudden it was like, ‘here you go.'”

Once Adam was given a role on GH, he explained, “I still didn’t know who I was playing. I should have asked at that point. So the deal gets done, and I go, ‘By the way, who am I playing?'”

Photo: ABC

That’s the point where the GH powers-that-be let him in on just what he was about to take on. “They sent me a one sheet with John “Jagger” Kates in the description,” shared Adam. “It wasn’t until I went on YouTube and spent a good three or four days, watching all of Steve (Burton’s) storylines in the nineties (that I figured it out). By the way, they were fantastic. The production value … it was amazing the level of the acting, and the relationships you guys had. I really enjoyed it. So, that’s how I found out (about the character).”

Burton and Anderson asked Harrington about his thoughts on being a recast. “I thought it was important to go back to his circumstances and his upbringing, because that wouldn’t change no matter what he had become in the 20 or 30 or 70 years since we’ve seen him,” Adam shared. “I looked at what Antonio Sabato Jr. did and thought, ‘There was no way in hell I can even touch that or even come close, nor do I want to.’ The only thing I recognized was given his upbringing and what he’d gone through, it was a common sense of humor in there that’s either used defensively or as a way of getting through the world.”

Photo: JPI

As to how Adam should approach the part given it was a recast, he noted, “What I had been told from the brass is don’t worry about following that same emotional storyline. He’s gone away for a very, very, very long time, become successful and he’s come back. Basically, they were saying, you bring in you.”

Being part of the fabric of GH for awhile now, Harrington expressed, “I will say this about my experience so far. I am in absolute awe of the cast and the crew and watching how you do this on a train that refuses to stop. I said to a friend, ‘I’m on a train that’s going a hundred miles an hour, and they slow down to about 90 to kick you off after your scene is done.'”

So, what are your thoughts on Adam as John “Jagger” Cates after now seeing how the role has evolved and changed since its original version over 30 years ago? Comment below.
