NBCUniversal/Peacock Exec Michael Sluchan on the Future of DAYS on Peacock, and its Upcoming 60th Anniversary

While many longtime viewers feel they are left in the dark as to just how well Days of our Lives is doing streaming on Peacock, as opposed to its former network home at NBC, Michael Sluchan, executive at NBCUniversal/Peacock, had some positive words to share on the future of the series.

Sluchan is the EVP, Current Scripted Programming & Limited Series for NBC/Peacock and Days of our Lives falls under his umbrella. The executive made an appearance at Wednesday’s NBCUniversal TCA Winter Press Tour where he spoke to the media.

Soap Hub had a word with Sluchan where he gave an update as to the status of the soap opera as it heads towards its 60th anniversary season.

“We are thrilled with the performance,” notes Sluchan on how well DAYS is doing streaming on Peacock. As to the big move from NBC to Peacock, and if viewers truly followed the series to its streaming home, Sluchan added, “The viewers really did show up, and they moved over to Peacock. (The show) continues to be a top performer, and we’re very much behind DAYS.”

Teasing what’s ahead coming later into 2025, as the series embarks on its 60th anniversary season, Sluchan revealed: “We tape so far ahead that we’re shooting into our 60th season already. We’ve already heard some of the storylines for that, and we are energized. Ron Carlivati (head writer, Days of our Lives) has some exciting stories coming up. There’s both forward-thinking, and will also harken back to classic DAYS, as well.”

So, glad to know that Peacock is pleased with the viewership performance of Days of our Lives and seems to be setting it up for its milestone 60th anniversary season for success? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

What about all of the rampant sexual harassment that has been going on at the show? These execs really have their heads in the sand.

I feel so bad for Ari Zucker and all she has endured. She is/was arguably the female lead of the show. I am so dissappointed that none of her co-stars have spoken out publicly in support of her. Are they that afraid for their jobs? Why hasn’t Greg Vaughn spoken out in support of his leading lady?

Amen, this comment shares the thought and views of the fans and our disappointment with hiw this situation is being handled. There should have been no question at all and a quick response to the sexual harassment amd discrimination. We as fans see ourselves in the roles these characters play on many occasions. So is BIG Ron saying we should tolerate this in our own personal lives? I started watching in 1970 and all the strong women in my family and I’m sure others are behind Ari to the bitter end. Peacock make them change this environment or kick Ron and Co to the curb. It would affect many lives and jobs from writers to camera workers and all other workers behind the scenes including makeup, scenery, janitors, PAs, ADs, directors actors and fans. It would however show the world and other shows and series that this treatment will not be tolerated. A HR department with the right to terminate ANYONE causing problems of any type is the least they could do. There so much more I could go on to say about the problems facing actors behind the scenes but, i will step off my soapbox (no pun intended) for today because the most important and concerning at this time is the sexual harassment and discrimination. Would Ron or anyone turning a blind eye and in doing so condone the behavior let this ride if their wife or daughter, sister or mother was being treated in such a way. If you want to know if any business has problems that affect the bottom line, you just have to look at the rate of employee turnover. Obviously at DOOL there were blatant problems. Take care of the problem and your bottom line by taking care of your workers and solving the problem.

Agree ..I’ve been watching Days from very beginning….Make the working environment safe ..Bring back Nichole to the excellent job she was doing.i applaud her for standing up to what was going on.So that it doesn’t happen in the future. ..She should be rewarded not punished..Or this will continue to go on because it wasn’t addressed correctly

i applaud Nichole for standing up to the harassment. then they told her, there is something wrong with the producers and writers to turn a blind eye to what was done in harassment to her. it is disgusting. ron and Co to the curb. they have no respect for the actors and actresses Greg has been fired why because he may have stuck up for . they did a very bad job dealing with the sexual harassment of nichole . bring her back and get rid of the writers and ron and corday, they r not better too allow the abuse of nichole. what they did to the Horton house is unforgivable, how could they do this to the icon of days

I agree 100 percent with you.. I don’t watch Days anymore.. it’s not like used to be…
All the good actors left..
Kristen and Peter

Exactly it’s all so wrong. I really do hope people protest the show until they bring her back.

Totally my thoughts.

I agree she is being punished for taking action. This terrible thing happened to her for years and their reaction to it is to call her a liar and fire her. Instead of compensating her and the other woman or men… This shows how they care more about the money than the people or fans whom have invested in this show for many years. They will be losing this viewer.

The producer in question, Albert Alarr, was fired and gone by Aug 2023 yet Arianne Zucker continued to stay on DOOL . She worked into the time of contract negotiations in 2024.. Offers and counter-offers were made. Why would one not leave, instead of pursuing a new contract as she did? The threat of Albert Alarr was long gone by August She chose to enter new negotiations and when she did not get what she wanted in the beg of Jan 2024 , walked away furious. By the early part of Feb, she filed a huge lawsuit and salaciously and intentionally re- counted everything leading up and through Albert Alarr’s termination . It was o.k, to stay all the way through the time the contract negotiations failed in Jan 2024 ? And then dredge up what was, essentially already known up and through when Albert Alarr was fired ? She didn’t think she got what she deserved yet once Alarr has removed, it was A-Ok to stay from Aug- Jan and shoot way ahead ? And then take it out on Ken Corday in Jan 2024? I don’t see any other actors speaking out these days , after Mr. Alarr was removed. But, since they shoot 6 mths in advance , do the math. she will be back in the role until May or June. I’ve always thought the world of her and her support of women and girls’ empowerwent but something feels “off” here about the timing of her allegations and lawsuit

You should be ashamed of yourself for your remarks about Ari. She is a wonderful actress and the only one with the guts to speak out about Corday’s behavior which was just as bad as Alaar’s!! I think it is appalling that none of her co-stars have had the courage to speak out publicly in support of her. I guess I am a bit of a broken record here.

How do you show your “commitment” to Days?

By decimating the Horton family & burning down their house, of course!!

I wasn’t able to follow the show onto peacock. Did they really burn down the Horton house? If so that would’ve been a game changer for me! And how dare they decimate the Horton family! They are what started this show.

The Horton house just burned this week. Ther is no way that fire would’ve totaled the house unless they lived way out in country with out hydrants. This story line is awful.

Yes they did. I was surprised also. What does this mean for the Horton Legacy. I was sad when they got rid of Bo and Hopes house.
I hope the rebuild Tom and Alice house a replica

I am not a viewer of Days but am very happy for the people that are.

Wanna bet on Days too Jimmy?? Lpl

Great to hear this! Days is the best soap and I hope to continue to watch the talented cast for decades to come! Congratulations!

Always good to hear it’s continuing! I will watch until the end!

We want Arianna/Nicole back. Permanently.

Yes. No Ari then I quit! Been there since day one. All the DOOL women cast should strike and stand behind Ari .Self respect is more ortant than allowing men of the cast do whatever. I hope Ari takes them all down through their wallets, because apparently their heads are so far up their asses they cant think straight !
Team Ari

Ari is a wonderful actress and person, what DOOL is doing to her is definitely unexceptable!!!! Bring her back….

I second that!

Yes. She stood up for what was the right thing to do.she needs to be rewarded and brought back to continue the great job she has been doing..

Agree

Days will lose a big share of their audience if they don’t bring Nicole back permanently and settle this aweful sexual harrassment suit and bring back the seasoned actors they wont last too much longer. Been watching since day one and if Nicole goes so do I!

I love Days of Our Lives so I pay to watch it on Peacock even though I can barely afford it because I’m retired on a fixed income so funds are tight ; but I was watching this show from the beginning and I hate not to able to watch it so I sacrifice something else in order to continue watching it. I do feel there would be more people watching it on NBC since it’s a local free station.

Remember how they said they were gonna put all past seasons/episodes on Peacock when it first debuted? Almost 18 months later and still none.

Technically, Peacock should have the ability to do this. For example you can pull up any episode of Saturday Night Live on Peacock, going all the way back to 1975.

But of course, that’s one episode a week, and a show that has maybe 20 episodes a year on a good year (between the pandemic & the strikes, they haven’t done a full season since 2019)

With Days, there’s infinitely more episodes to consider. I’m not sure what the licensing issues would be with Sony Pictures, which co-owns the show. And there’s always the question of whether the early seasons exist at all. You can find the very first episode of Days on YouTube, where somebody uploaded it for “historical purposes” but rumors are that some of the old tapes were erased and reused to tape new episodes. Apparently nobody in 1965 ever imagined somebody would still be talking about this show nearly 60 years later.

Not sure what NBC policy was with daytime programming, but ABC shows regularly reused the tapes on which the soaps were recorded. It wasn’t until they went to hour episodes in the late 70s when the reuse of tapes ended.

I just got peacock. Watched for a month and I’m not impressed. Starting watching the soap when it first aired and was a loyal fan. I’m giving it up. Don’t like the storyline and to many changes. Not good ones.

Days of Our Lifes-is the best soap on TV from NBC to Peacock, I have watched it for many years since my early 30’s and I am 81 now. Please continue with it. I remember when Doug and Julie got to gather on the show until they married in real life. LOVE IT continue on.

Pretty good that Peacock is pleased with ” viewership performance of DOOL and is setting it up for future success” How about how the viewer’s feel, especially the ones that lost there beloved show because they can’t afford extra subscription fees to watch it ? No one really cares anymore, only about how much more money they will make. Employees are being fired or having to endure indignities by higher up employees , it’s sickening to say the least.

I couldn’t disagree more thousands of not millions of viewers did not follow Days to the streaming service. Why?? Because they couldn’t afford to pay the additional charge to their basic cable bill.Everyone involved making the series are making money hand over fist but their most loyal long time viewers are not.For them pennies count, and most don’t have any more to spare. Thanks Days for your loyalty to you fans .

I love day of our lives, been watching it from day one. And i love the peacock channel to. I watch it more then any other steaming channel.

Glad Peacock is behind Days. Now can the streaming service help upgrade the sets and bring back Eli and Lani, Jack and Jennifer, Gabi and of course Nicole?

I wish it free again on NBC instead of having to pay twice..one for Internet Peacock… double the price for those on limited income.
Why did NBC stop showing Days of Our Lives on TV??
Thank you .

The show became too expensive and profits were challenged in the last decade on NBC. Because of the show’s ownership structure – Corday produces, Sony distributes, and (previously) NBC and its affiliates aired, there were so many “cooks in the kitchen”. By switching to a subscription service (Peacock) you removed the NBC affiliates and add an additional income source to increase profits.

General Hospital, on the other hand, is produced and distributed by the same entity (Disney/ABC) and only has to share ad revenue with its affiliates.

I’m so glad to hear days is doing well on peacock , I’ve been watching for over 45 years and they are like family to me , and thank you for moving days to peacock , when it was on NBC it would get cancel due to news or the president message , or even weather and ir seen to happen ever rime during a cliffhanger , so I love days being on peacock , thank you , thank you, thank you

I love your drama I watch TV your drama drama favorite my life

I’ve watched days since I was a kid, I’m so glad it will continue. THE ONLY REASON I GOT PEACOCK IS BECAUSE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES

I’ve watched DOOL since day 1, and I hate now that I have to pay for Peacock in order to continue watching. I paid the initial discounted fee, then was charged $60-70.00 this year. There’s no way to contact them to change my subscription to monthly, as I tried for a month to do. I’m a senior on a fixed income, and can’t afford the lump sum they charged. Aside from that, Peacock sucks as a streaming service. Just today it froze up when I was signing in at lunch for my daily DOOL fix, and after 1/2 hour of trying to fix it, I had to miss watching my show. I hate Peacock, and refuse to start watching anything else on their service. And once I can give up watching DOOL, I’m done with Peacock. Sadly, DOOL is becoming not the show I used to love. The story lines are lacking, and the same characters playing different roles is difficult to get used to. I read a lot of posts and it seems that many people feel as I do, DOOL needs new writers, and they need to go back to NBC, so we don’t have to pay extra for a lousy streaming service.

Cancel the service and rejoin at a monthly rate so you won’t get charged the yearly rate. And you can watch it over and over so if you miss your normal time you can go back and watch at a different time. The daily episodes are available after 6am EST.

I still upset with the move. I can’t watch my show anymore. I want it back on NBC or DirecTV need to add peacock to the line up. I watch that since it started. I missed it so much. I don’t watch any other soap opera. So I hope they bring it back to NBC.

If Peacock is so happy w Days’ performance, why has Day’s fired so many legacy performers. Where is the money? Really don’t care about reenagers angst and honestly, I think Ron and his writers are awful. That said I do watch and fast forward a entire episode in 15 minutes. Close to saying bye-bye.

I just want Days to bring back Bo and Hope. They bring a certain excitement the show is lacking.

Bring back Nicole or lose your audience! What the executives have done is shameful! Sad the other actors are not speaking out as well. No moral character clearly for these reasons, I’m done with days after 30 years. Do better!

Bring back Nicole!!

I watched DOOL for over 40 years. I recorded it when i had to work so i didn’t miss it. When i retired you moved it to peacock. I feel betrayed!! I now have more time to sit down and enjoy the time watching DOOL and you took it away from me at the time when i am now on a fixed income. Shame on you for doing this to all the long time watchers. I hope you lose and go off the air.

Get, Nicole back on the show she make the show

I hope that the executives are aware we are buying their fake excitement. Get Ari back and all the others that were harassed! We will leave if you don’t make this right.

I’m 54 been watching Days since I was born. Thank you mom and grandma. But I reluctantly went over to Peacock and now very mad they are increasing our payment next month.
Anyway very passed how they are treating Adrian ( Nicole) she was fired for bringing allegations of sexual harassment against a producer . Which if she’s saying this we believe her! Hell he’s probably the ass who set her up to be assaulted by Trump. But as fans we love Nicole …she’s a staple an fixture. You can’t replace a 40 something actress who owns this role. This is her part. You can’t kill her because you have a baby story to write. So stop being dicks and rehire her , give all women a raise . Otherwise we the women fans of DooL may just walk off. I urge fellow actresses to threaten a walk off. It’s time to take stands ladies. It’s time the make believe ladies of daytime stand up and start changing the women of real life …days. Give that abused, trodden bullied woman out there the strength to fight and change her life.

Please bring Arianne Zucker back. I love her character. She’s such a great actress! The soap won’t be the same without her!! I’ve been a Days fan since 1965!

I cancelled Peacock, the price increase was too much to watch only Days. My favorite characters are gone or leaving , I can live without it.

Please bring back Ari. She was being truthful and look what it got her. She is a big part if the show and she shouldn’t be punished for a jerk that got away with things for far too long. Kudos to her. Please bring her back.

Days, don’t make a fatal mistake, bring back Ari Zucker. It looks like retaliation. It’s not a good look for millions of women who have been harassed at the workplace.

Watched Days for 50 years! My only complaint is losing some of our favorites and bringing back others to play duel roles. So grateful to Peacock for picking it up.Time to create a new bad guy in Salem.Victor and Stefano style.

I hate that it moved to peacock you have to pay for it when it was free on NBC ‍♂️‍♂️
