SOAP LIFE: A Documentary On Daytime Drama in preparation on the decline & future of Soaps!

Lest you think that the emotional toll the last few years have taken on soap fans, soap actors, producers, and anyone involved with the medium, is not going to be documented or has somehow gone unnoticed by an entity that wants to shed some light on the culture to the mainstream! Well, On-Air On-Soaps is here to tell you that a new documentary about the changes taking place in the world of daytime drama is prepping itself for distribution.

The title of the documentary project is: Soap LifeA Documentary on Daytime, and as we have all collectively watched, or have been a part of,  more classic soap operas have been cancelled.  So the company behind this documentary, NYPS.TV has interviewed many of your daytime favorites in front of the camera and fans around the country about the landscape of American television that is going through unprecedented changes. They’ve spoken with executives, and a number of current and former daytime stars to get their perspective on what it all means and what lies ahead.

Right now, they are trying to raise the last amount of funds needed to finish their documentary.  So they have posted their project on Kickstarter.com, with the hopes that within next few months,  the money they raise will help this film become a reality. The donor gifts include a pre-order of the DVD, a collectible poster, an invite to the film’s premier, a special thanks in the credits, and the chance to make an appearance in the documentary.

Some of the stars appearing in the film include: Lisa LoCicero, Rick Hearst,  Jill Larson, Bradford Anderson, Carolyn Hennesy, Ronnie Marmo, Cady McClain, Derk Cheetwood, Jordi Vilasuso, Crystal Hunt, Bobbie Eakes, Gary Tomlin, Sean Ringgold, Francesca James, Julia Barr, Eileen Fulton, and many more.  On-Air On-Soaps Michael Fairman also was interviewed for this look into the soaps.

Watch a trailer for the film below and then let us know, what you think of the concept? Don’t you think its time that people should know what viewers around the country, and the stars that have made the characters you love to love and love to hate, feel about the downturn in the soaps and losing these legacy shows that are like family members?

I look forward in looking to this documentary.

me to from canada

Me too from Canada !! 🙂

Why Gary Tomlin? All he knows how to do is ruin soaps.

Excellent concept. Video looks good. This should be of interest to everyone interested in daytime drama.

This is great! Maybe it can shed some light for me as well. Is this an era of higher and higher shareholder profits and shows with low production costs (i.e., talk, reality & variety shows) or are soaps really a dead genre? I dunno. Spanish-language soaps (telenovelas) and the UK soaps (“EastEnders,” “Coronation Street,” “Hollyoaks,” etc.) seem to still be doing well, although certainly not at their zenith. Perhaps it’s a corporate America greed thing.

It still boggles my mind that we’re down to only four soaps! When I started sampling the daytime drama buffet in the 1970s, there were still 15 soaps on the air (“The Secret Storm” was the first of the longer-running TV serials to get cancelled in February 1974) and a flood of fan magazines … and this was during the lagging recession of the 1970s! I truly thought these chestnuts would be around when I was old and bed-ridden.

Hopefully, this documentary will help me understand what the hell happened…

Sounds interesting although I would have liked a little more variety. Of the names I recognized only Eileen Fulton was from a non-ABC soap (although Bobbie Eakes and Crystal Hunt did have prominent roles on another network in addition to ABC).

Hey Michael, when does the “RIP” go up next to All My Children?

He’s probably waiting for OLTL to end to do it in one shot.

I don’t think you actually watched the promo. Eileen Fulton does not appear in the promo. The actual promo (if you click on the video link) features Rick Hearst from B&B as well as Gary Tomlin from DAYS.

this i’d watch

I’m Very Interested In Seeing This Documentary–Yes! 😀

I would watch it too if it is in Canada too I miss my soap that they tolk away from us ATWT and my number one soap is AMC

when the soap starts i tune out i see nothing but the storyline and what i can solve on what is going on in the show

If it can show people how valuable these shows are, I can’t wait to see this documentary either! I’m all for it!

It is August 31, 2012 and I CANNOT WAIT FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2012!!!!!!! It’s the premiere of Soap Life – A Documentary. Sooooo excited and soooo proud to be a part of the daytime community!!!!

Haley Pullos Receives 90-Day Jail Sentence Following DUI Charge And Wrong-Way Car Crash

Former General Hospital actress, Haley Pullos (ex-Molly Lansing-Davis) is going to be doing time in jail, exactly one-year after her arrest from a hit and run wrong-way car collision.

The crash resulted in bodily harm and damages to the other driver, and now Pullos who pleaded “no contest” to the charges and will serve 90 days in jail. She was taken in custody on Monday, April 29th, after the ruling.

According to Haley’s attorney, Mark Daniel Melnick, the 25-year-old actress struck a plea deal and after her three months in jail will be sentenced on July 29th. As part of that sentencing, she must serve five years probation, 200 hours of community service and pay $8,260 in restitution to Courteney Wilder, the other driver in the crash and her driver’s license is revoked for a year.

According to TMZ, the plea deal for Pullos has the “no contest” to one DUI, while the judge dropped the felony DUI causing bodily injury and misdemeanor hit and run charges.

Melnick said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Haley is very grateful to the court for a minimum sentence and for recognizing her remorse and the strides she has made in her sobriety.”

Pullos had played the daughter of Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn) on the ABC soap opera since 2009, but after her car crash and DUI she was replaced by three different actresses until the show finally settled on the current Molly, Kristen Vaganos.

Back in April 29 of 2023, and at the scene of the crash, the police found edibles and mini-bottles of tequila in Pullos’ vehicle and that she was intoxicated. As it turned out, this was to be the second hit and run in the evening for Pullos who had an earlier collision with another car.

The courts decision follows a year-long legal battle with Haley’s pleas changing throughout it, ranging from “not guilty” to “no contest”. She sought treatment for her drinking at a rehab following the crash.

Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrayed Pullos’ on-screen mom took to X on Monday night, April 29th and shared on the sentence and the specific jail, Haley will be serving time: “As Haley’s TV mom I can tell some truths about her as I’ve loved her since she was little girl. She made a HUGE mistake, knows it, owns it & has spent the last yr doing EVERYTHING imaginable to take responsibility 4 it. It’s not that I oppose jail. It’s that I oppose this jail.” The jail in question by Grahn is the L.A. county jail.

So, what do you think about Haley Pullos serving a 90-days jail sentence, and the other rulings that will be part of her sentencing? Comment below.

Kimberlin Brown Back to The Bold and the Beautiful

As expected, although viewers didn’t know exactly when it would be revealed, on today’s April 29th episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, Sheila Carter is found alive and well.

Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Deacon (Sean Kanan) make the discovering that Sheila didn’t actually die; and that it was her plastic surgery makeover lookalike, Sugar, that met her maker. That means, Sheila’s portrayer, Kimberlin Brown, is back on the show and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) killed Sugar in self-defense, not Sheila.

Speaking on what was a shocking return for her, Brown chatted with Deadline about her getting the opportunity to resurrect Sheila one more time and with a new contract to boot.

When asked if she thought B&B’s executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell changed course midstream in the story, Kimberlin expressed, “Either that or he had this in mind all along and just didn’t tell me about it! But I can’t see anybody doing anything that evil, however. That would be a Sheila moment.”

Kimberlin also shared how she first learned she was being let go from the show, recalling, “Brad called me upstairs to talk to me about what he had in mind for Sheila. It was a hard pill for me to swallow. It had been years of playing Sheila, and I consider her my baby, so to speak. And that was definitely not news I was anticipating or hoping to receive.” She added “When I walked into his office, he looked at me and went, ‘We’re killing off your character.’”

As to what the future holds for Sheila, enduring villainess and fan favorite, Kimberlin Brown, shared some intel: “I am happy to say that I have been asked to negotiate another contract.’

So, glad to know that Kimberlin Brown is back as Sheila Carter? What do you think will be Sheila’s next move? Did you believe for a second, maybe two, that Sheila would really be ‘dead-dead’ on the soaps? Comment below.
