B&B's Brad Bell On His Plans For The Characters of Rick, Ridge, and Karen & Dani!

With so much reshuffling having to go down in a such a short time for The Bold and the Beautiful’s  executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, he has come up with some plans to move the show forward post-Ronn Moss’s (Ridge) sudden departure, and previews what is to come for fall in a new piece with TV Guide!

In the article, TVG reports that Bell will indeed recast the role of Ridge, but first the character will be sent off the canvas on his honeymoon with Brooke.   Below are some highlights of what Bell stated is to come for some of his  characters!

Bell says he is moving Rick Forrester played by Jacob Young into full Ridge Mode: “Rick is a young man sick of sitting on the sidelines and will finally come into his own.  He’ll become a passionate, sexy, driving force of the show, making a strategic play for Caroline and going after Ridge’s position as head of Forrester Creations.  This was always my plan for Rick. It just works so much better now, what with Ridge going off on an extended honeymoon doing God knows what. It gives Rick a legitimate reason to take control.”

Bell also discusses what is going to happen with his first same-sex storyline that was to feature Joanna Johnson and Crystal Chappell as Karen and Dani, which had to be dropped for the time being while Johnson went off to do her primetime project, Emily Owens M.D, in which she is the producer:  “Joanna will definitely be back, if only for a day or two here and there,” says Bell.  And once her schedule backs off a bit I want her back for something meaty. We may not see Karen for the time being but we’ll play her as if she’s still around and that she and Dani are still a happy couple. (Laughs) I’m not going to have Dani go off and seduce one of our guys.”

Bell also reports there is a big storyline for the fall for Daytime Emmy winner, Heather Tom that will test her! “Her character, Katie, will discover how evil her hubby Bill (Don Diamont) truly is just as she’s about to give birth to his son. ”

So what do you think of Bell’s plans for the series and dealing with the changes that happened behind-the-scenes?  Let us know!

I think it’ll be a mistake to recast Ridge!

Agreed. Bad, bad move. Write a show without him. It’s not like they’re using much of anyone besides Brooke, Hope, Steffy and Liam anyway.

Mr. BELL needs to stop giving CC fans false hope. I’ll believe we’ll get more Dani when she’s actually on my TV. Mr. BELL been claiming he has plans for CC, but when your only on screen 2 times in last 2 months and she hasn’t been in the studio to shoot more episodes then I don’t buy his BS. I’m done watching The Lame & the Beautiful.

How will be there room for these new plot developments with every day so full of Liam, Hope and Steffy?

The new storyline or should I say the old storyline with Liam, Steffy, and Hope is old. I think that the character Brooke needs to be held accountable for her actions, and that Eric should stay in the role of grandfather to Ridge’s children ( Steffy, and Thomas, after all emotions for people do need change like they change bed partners for brooke. I like the diversity that the show is now trying to embrace, but it will never be as good as the days when Stephanie Forrester was around…..

I hope the recast of Ridge doesn’t happen too quickly. I need some Ridge free time on my screen. The character is completely annoying as hell.

As for Rick, I’m happy he’s being featured more. He and Caroline are my favourite pairing, plus I love Jacob and Linsey! Two of the best finds the show has gotten in the past year!!

I need more Dani/Karen, I loved their connection and felt like it was something B&B has been missing for years!

Recast Ridge… Vincent Irizzary (sp) Izzywuzzy…whatever his name is… would work.
Just wait for a few months and let someone besides him and the kids have some airtime.

That is potentially, in my honest opinion, the worst recast idea possibly ever.

At least he can act.. I don’t see your suggestion at all. So maybe not the worst after all. I least it’s’ an opinion. Or are you someone who thinks Ron Moss can actually act?

No.

Vincent is just wrong as Ridge Forrester. And I didn’t give my own suggestion because I personally don’t want anyone recasted into the role. The character is a hypocrtical nympho. And Ronn can act in his own, he acts well as Ridge.

LOVE B&B TIRED OF LIAM HOPE & STEFFY SAME OH THING. RENAME THE SHOW. BROOK LOAGN & OFF SPRING.

Thorne should be taking the reins of Forrester he is the true male heir. I am so glad I quit watching this show I kept hoping Winsor Harmon would get to show his stuff, I can not tolerate the actor who plays Rick. Brad Bell is a jerk he could have given Ronn Moss his raise instead of all those locations shoots for the teenyboppers. My sister still watches and I keep asking her can I start watching again and she tells me nothing has changed.

I also might add Ronn Moss was in a horrible car accident and almost got killed my husband was in a bad accident 5 years ago and by the grace of god he was not killed it does however make you rethink things about your life he could not give him some time off and let him get things together the man has been on the show for 25 years I think that should count for something!

doesnot thorne have a legitamate reason to go after fc hes first born to eric and hes stephanies son, stepahnie the true owner of fc, jj being gone doesnot mean we cant see daniel, who really cares about katie and her baby ready, bill tried to kill amber and her unborn child nothing bill does or did after that should shock katie- fans want to see the real steffy the one was conned bill the steffy before bell decided to use her to prop hope/liam , cast a man for steffy, as for rm ‘s leaving i could care less since ridge reunited with brooke after taylors return hes become a joke all he does is kiss brookes rare, up to me i would kill him off, cast a man for steffy, fans want to see thorne/taylor kissing rare at fc, brad bell is a hack and theres a special place in soap opera hell for him

I have stop watching the show becauBrandondon Bell can’t write to save his life. If he think Rick can take Ridge’s place as leading man, I feel sorry for him.

I WOULD NOT RECAST RIDGE AT ALL. I WOULD MAKE BROOKE GO INTO ANOTHER DIRECTIONS WITH SOMEONE NEW. CANT SEE THE FANS ACCEPTING ANOTHER RIDGE FORRESTER.

i like it but they need to have Danielle on more even if its her talking on the phone to Karen and to show Danielle and Caroline hangout or just having coffee together.Love the Danielle and Karen also Caroline.

I’m excited at the possibility of a nuRidge. It would bring a new dynamic to the show and to Brooke and Taylor. But Ridge needs to be rested for a while and than reappear at the right moment with the right actor.

About time he’ll do something with Rick. Tired of Steffy/Liam/Hope everyday!!!! And then when they’re not on-screen, the other characters are talking about them. Give Taylor a REAL story!

If they replace Ridge with someone like Robert Kelker-Kelly, I’d be happy with that.

I’m VERY SURPRISED that Ronn Moss has left! I can’t imagine any other actor portraying Ridge. How/when will Brooke return? How will they explain Brooke without Ridge? What will happen to her character? I think enough already with LiamHope/Steffy. Liam & Hope belong together. Katie should really let Bill have it BIG TIME for all his manipulating & interferring. Liam & Hope have a right to know the truth. Steffy should mind her own business & Liam & Hope should know all of her part in Bill’s mess. JUST LEAVE LIAM & HOPE ALONE!

Ridge was a pain in the butt anyway! Rick is repulsive, I tape the show & fast-forward past any scenes with him in it, same with Jacob & Linsey (BORING!) Taylor’s story line is just stupid now, & her face is so deformed from plastic surgery I can’t take her seriously anymore anyway! She was always my favourite but because of what she’s done to her face, & not appreciated the natural beauty she was blessed to have in the first place, I like Brook better now, at least she is aging ‘reasonably’ gracefully! Brook should replace Stephanie but in a ‘nicer’ version. Please do something with Donna’s hair!!! It looks so limp & greasy, looks like you could fry chips on it! yuk! Shame Stephanie is leaving. Eric is a tosser & should be the one dying. Please stop with the Liam, Hope, Stephie see-saw, put Liam & Hope back together & disfigure Stephie in some unfortunate accident hehe. Hope Katie sorts Bill out & he actually becomes a better person, & they stay together! Just one couple to actually stay together on this show would be nice!!!

I wish Hope would get a new boyfriend, I’m getting tired of the 3 ring circus, you need to move her on to a new boyfriend and she fall in love with him.
I’m also getting sick of Taylor and her kids blaming the Logan’s for everything that happens in their lives. Taylor thinks she is so much better than everyone else, she did drive drunk and kill Thorn’s wife.
I hope you don’t have Brooke getting into a relationship with Bill Spencer.
I would like to see Nick come back and Brooke get with him, and have Brooke, Hope, and Rick go into business with them and outdo Taylor, Thomas, and Steffy, and Eric.

I like Cindy’s idea. I always liked Nick.
I think Taylor is so self centered.
The show just isn’t the same without Ronn Moss.

(INTERVIEW) B&B’s Annika Noelle Reveals Her Lead Actress Emmy-Nominated Scenes, and the Ups and Downs of a Tough Year

When the nominees were announced last week for the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, six women wound up in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and that included The Bold and the Beautiful’s Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) who had quite the heavy on-screen story.

For months, Hope initially tried to hold her marriage to Liam (Scott Clifton) together, gave into her passion for Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), and became a stronger more independent woman in the process. Noelle was previously nominated in 2020 in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, but this marks her first-time presence in the highly-coveted Lead Actress race.

On Friday, April 26th, The Bold and the Beautiful celebrated their leading 12 nominations, as well as being the show with the most acting nominations going into the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards set to air live on Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

Photo: JPI

During the on set celebration, when B&B’s Emmy-nominated executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, introduced each of the acting nominees, they took a moment to address their colleagues, and for Annika, her speech was touching and emotional. She expressed, “I’m so grateful to Brad Bell for believing in this dark brunette, and allowing me to be a part of this family. And when we say that we’re a family, it’s not just because we get along. It is really because we are here for the majority of the year with each other. I know for a lot of people, 2023, was a difficult year.  The thing about this beautiful show is that it was my constant, and it’s what I could depend on during a tough year. And there are beautiful days like this when you come in and everything in your life is going amazingly. And then, there are days where your world is falling apart. And the crew, honestly, you guys kept me afloat this year and that’s why this is so meaningful to me.”

Photo: MFTV Inc

Annika added, “I don’t think I could have gotten through this year without the love and support from this family. So, thank you for being there for me on days that I needed the strength and you gave that to me. I’m so grateful to my co-stars and who I get to share these beautiful scenes with. I just wanted to say, I appreciate all of you and thank you so much. You all mean more to me than you will ever know.”

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Annika immediately following the Emmy nominee celebration, to her thoughts on this momentous occasion in her professional life and what it means to her personally, plus what did she choose for her scenes when Hope had such, shall we say, a torrid year of story to choose from. Here’s what she shared below.

Photo: JPI

Dare I say, I called this nomination for you? Back on New Year’s Eve, I revealed My “Best Of” Picks for 2023 and I had you as the Best Overall Performance by an Actress for the year, and alongside your fellow nominee, Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH), to boot!

ANNIKA: Thank you for believing in me that I could do it.

How did you to tackle your Emmy-nominated reel and what you were hoping to showcase?

ANNIKA: I was just so grateful to have the story to be able to pick from, and to really try to show the character growth and the arc of everything that happened to Hope Logan in the past year. For me, I really wanted to take the voters on a journey from her really being heavily influence by everyone’s opinions and everyone else’s voices, to her really coming into her own and going, “I don’t care if it’s the right or wrong choice, it’s my choice.”

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you end up submitting the landed you this Lead Actress Emmy nomination?

ANNIKA: I started with this great scene that our producers, Casey Kaspryzk and Rachel Herman actually remembered, where Hope walks in on her mother in her lingerie flirting with Ridge. And they remembered that scene. So, that really launched us off to Hope being kind of in this deep denial of, “I’m nothing like you. I’m not going to follow in your footsteps. I don’t have feelings for Thomas.” Cut to Liam confronting her about watching her give into her desires in Rome. And him saying, “Where were you Hope? At the Colosseum?” and then kind of in a roundabout full circle way, Brooke finding Thomas and Hope in bed together and then Hope really kind of going toe to toe with her mother. Then, ending with her kind of fully coming into her own as a woman and saying, “You wanted a divorce, Liam, here’s your divorce.” I really wanted to show the journey of her finding her own voice and advocating for her own choices and finding that inner strength, basically.

Photo: JPI

Was choosing the reel difficult given you had so much material within the 2023 calendar year of eligibility to consider?

ANNIKA: It was hard to pick and choose. There were a few I ended up leaving out. There was a really beautiful scene with Thomas where she realizes he overheard her kind of talking ill of him. That one was really hard to let go of.  I was also considering another scene with Liam where they actually signed the divorce papers. I’m just so grateful to even be able to have the material to choose from.

Photo: JPI

How did you find out you were nominated?

ANNIKA: Eva Basler, our VP of Communications & Talent Relations, called me and it meant so much to me to get that call from her. I tend to get nervous and have anxiety, so that day I just had to not think about it. So, I was out on a walk with my love, and my dog. We’re just in the middle of a cul-de-sac and my phone starts ringing. And it was the best surprise ever! Then, when I found out that Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B) got nominated alongside me, I immediately FaceTimed her. It was the funniest thing because she literally picks up and she is wearing a sun visor and sunglasses wrapped up on top of a horse as she’s in the middle of a mountain and in a valley on this beautiful white horse. It was the most picturesque thing.

Photos: ABC, JPI, NBC

I believe you know some of the women you are nominated with, obviously Katherine, but also Tamara Braun (Ava, Days), Finola Hughes, (Anna, GH), Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R). What are your thoughts on these nominees?

ANNIKA: Well first, I’m just so excited to be in this category with the other women. Tamara Braun, who I was nominated with previously in the Supporting Actress category I’m excited that she’s in this category with me. Michelle Stafford, who I see in the hallway all the time, is great, and Finola Hughes, I’m just like obsessed with from afar. I even watched her on Watch What Happens Live!  Cynthia, I hear her work is tremendous, and with Katherine, I’m just really grateful to get to share this with her. To be honored amongst these legends of daytime is amazing. Just to be seen in that way, that means more to me than anything.

Photo: JPI

You mentioned during B&B’s on-set Emmy celebration that this past year was a difficult one for you, and that everyone at the show really helped you through it. What meaning would winning the Emmy hold for you?

ANNIKA: That would be overwhelming. I wouldn’t even know how to describe it – an honor, a privilege, a blessing? It would mean the world to me, especially after this past year. That’s why it’s so significant, because even on the darkest days, the storms passes. You just have to hold on for that brighter day.

So, what did you think about the scenes Annika submitted for Lead Actress? Were they some of your favorite moments from the Emmy season? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Dina was the on-screen mother to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

As for Adams, she joined Y&R in 1982, but left the soap three years later her contract expired. She returned to Genoa City for stints in 1991, 1996 and 2008 before being asked by then Y&R head writer-producer Sally Sussman to return in 2017, which would begin the top-rated daytime drama telling the story of Alzheimer’s disease. Speaking with Michael Fairman TV, Marla shared on her final scenes on Y&R when Dina passed away and was reunited with John Abbott, “It was heart-wrenching for me.  In the story, Dina died when she went outside and to the front door of the Abbott home.  They did not tell me before-hand, and that’s why it was so wonderful.  I hope they came in for a closeup of that because I had no makeup on, it was beautiful, and then, Dina said, “Oh, John.”  I’ve done everything from movies, to daytime, to nighttime, to Broadway, but that was the iconic moment for me, to do this gig with wonderful, wonderful actors and friends, and to do this particular storyline.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant.
