Kale Browne to The Young and the Restless to do Voice-Over Work!

Remember the recent online bruhaha over the Kale Browne sighting over at The Young and the Restless?  Fan fervor ignited that FOJ (Friends of Jill Farren Phelps) were all being hired, or brought over to the number one soap, while displacing other Genoa City favorites!

Well, according to Soap Opera Digest this weekend, Browne had been indeed hired for a role on Y&R, but it is not what you think! SOD reports:  “It turns out that Kale will play a radio DJ and his voice will be heard on the February 12th and 13th episodes. The actor previously did vocal work at GH, where Y&R’s Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps toiled before coming to Y&R.”

Browne is soap famous for his role as Michael Hudson on Another World and Sam Rappaport on One Life to Live.

So what do you think about Browne playing a deejay and not having an on-air character? Are you relieved he is not playing a new contract character? Do you want him on the show? Do you believe FOJ are running rampant in Genoa City?  Let us know!

This is interesting!

I just deleted 2 weeks worth of shows without taking a look I gave it a chance so I do not care one way or the other. Did not really see him beng put on contract she likes the young studs. Lol! The show for me has been a struggle since 2005 maybe some day someone on this board will tell me I am missing out on a super comeback but I am not going to hold my breath.

I thought for certain he was going to be a Tucker recast.

FOJ strikes again!

Most people if given the chance will want to work with people they know and like, so I don’t fault Jill for giving out new gigs to those people in her life. But if she is axing established characters so she can create new characters for her friends to play, then as a viewer I would not be pleased. If she had to hire someone to play the voice of a DJ anyway and wants to hire Kale that is okay by me, but if she was creating the part on purpose just so she could give her pal work, well that is just shoddy producing in my opinion.

I would like to see him on Y& R but not at the expense of tried and true well loved actors. Speaking of Another World, I have hoped for years to see Stephen Schnetzer join the cast. It would be great to have a “Cass” type character . He was quick witted, brilliant, funny and had an ease with other languages. Y&R would be richer for it.

I miss seeing Stephen on soaps also! I thought it a great treat to find him on an epi of Law and Order once in a while or to hear him doing a commercial voice over. He’s a good actor with a fabulously unique voice. I still can’t believe he hasn’t been on a soap for so long. Maybe he just doesn’t want to?

JFP is just not the right individual to helm daytime’s number one soap of almost a quarter century. Y&R needs people who love and understand and respect the history of this gem, much like what Cartini did/do for ONE LIFE TO LIVE and GH. I just don’t and can’t agree with pandering to certain demo groups while ignoring beloved characters and the loyal audience.

Goes to show how some people can get upset over something they do not know if even a fact or not LOL …

I personally have loved Kale Browne since “Another Word” days!!!

Bring back Sam Rappaport!

I like that idea…I loved Kale’s Sam Rappaport.
Next to Viki being on GH to kick Todd in the butt, ghostly visits to Todd from Sam would suit this fan just fine.

Here’s hoping Jill can tank this show and put GH on top again!

GH is better than Y&R any day of the week..
I am a 30yr fan of both GH and Y&R but GH is the best!!

LOL! How on earth can the boring boredom that is Genoa City have better ratings than GH?! I don’t understand at all.

I’m a long time fan of both shows, but I can’t remember the last time I watched a full episode of Y&R….I usually turn it off after a few minutes cause I’m bored.

where Y&R’s Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps toiled before coming to Y&R.”

You’re exactly right about that Michael. Its a mistake having Jill helm Y&R. It still feels like the MAB era for me. Nothing has changed. Nothing has progressed. Im still glad I have a worthy soap GH to watch.

He did voice over work on GH, too. O really loved him on AW & OLTL

I’m disappointed. I wanted him on as the new Lance Abrahms. 🙁

That would have been way cool- Kale as Lance– as a possible new love interest for Jill. Oh well- sometimes the story lines in our heads are better than the ones they show. So I guess we will have to just keep on dreamin’

Although Kale Browne was a fairly competent actor the last time I saw him on OLTL, I did NOT believe that he was so good that he was worthy of sucking up the lion’s share of air time – which is what he did as Sam Rappaport on OLTL. We called him Sam-I-Am-In-The-Middle-Of-Every-Story-Line. The Friends of Jill who have already arrived in Genoa City have proved beyond all doubt that they all belong to the SAME family! Although it MIGHT be possible that Kale Browne will ONLY be appearing as the voice of a Disc Jockey during Valentine Week, there is NO guarantee at this point that the DJ role is the ONLY role which Browne will take on Y&R. I have personally given up trying to figure out what is going on with the current batch of stories which Y&R is currently promoting. I find that most of the continuity on Y&R has becoe very choppy since JFP took over – and far too many of these kids whom JFP is promoting in center stage are really painfully incompetent. Last week, after it was discovered that Jamie had taken a serious tumble off of the roof, TIIC had a scene where Fen arrive in Jamie’s hospital room and, as Fen arrived, Jamie opened his eyes. Then – there was NO mention of what was happening next until almost a WEEK later! JFP is doing her usual hatchet job with the “bullying” storyline. And it appears that JFP is also doing her usual hatchet job with Sharon’s “bi-polar” storyline as well. Soap writers are SO incompetent when it comes to attempting to deal with important issues that EVERYONE would be better off if soap writers, like the crew which JFP now has working at Y&R, would just do everyone the favor of NOT attempting to deal with so-called “important” issues. So – no – I am NOT eager to have Kale Browne arriving to gobble up the tiny amounts of air time left over after Summer, Noah and Dylan gobble up their share. And No – I do NOT believe that Kale Browne will ONLY be appearing in Genoa City as a disc jockey. Eventually, JFP will find a way to hand Y&R’s remaining air time over to JFP’s Number One Friend of Jill!

(INTERVIEW) B&B’s Annika Noelle Reveals Her Lead Actress Emmy-Nominated Scenes, and the Ups and Downs of a Tough Year

When the nominees were announced last week for the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, six women wound up in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and that included The Bold and the Beautiful’s Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) who had quite the heavy on-screen story.

For months, Hope initially tried to hold her marriage to Liam (Scott Clifton) together, gave into her passion for Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), and became a stronger more independent woman in the process. Noelle was previously nominated in 2020 in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, but this marks her first-time presence in the highly-coveted Lead Actress race.

On Friday, April 26th, The Bold and the Beautiful celebrated their leading 12 nominations, as well as being the show with the most acting nominations going into the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards set to air live on Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

During the on set celebration, when B&B’s Emmy-nominated executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, introduced each of the acting nominees, they took a moment to address their colleagues, and for Annika, her speech was touching and emotional. She expressed, “I’m so grateful to Brad Bell for believing in this dark brunette, and allowing me to be a part of this family. And when we say that we’re a family, it’s not just because we get along. It is really because we are here for the majority of the year with each other. I know for a lot of people, 2023, was a difficult year.  The thing about this beautiful show is that it was my constant, and it’s what I could depend on during a tough year. And there are beautiful days like this when you come in and everything in your life is going amazingly. And then, there are days where your world is falling apart. And the crew, honestly, you guys kept me afloat this year and that’s why this is so meaningful to me.”

Annika added, “I don’t think I could have gotten through this year without the love and support from this family. So, thank you for being there for me on days that I needed the strength and you gave that to me. I’m so grateful to my co-stars and who I get to share these beautiful scenes with. I just wanted to say, I appreciate all of you and thank you so much. You all mean more to me than you will ever know.”

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Annika immediately following the Emmy nominee celebration, to her thoughts on this momentous occasion in her professional life and what it means to her personally, plus what did she choose for her scenes when Hope had such, shall we say, a torrid year of story to choose from. Here’s what she shared below.

Photo: JPI

Dare I say, I called this nomination for you? Back on New Year’s Eve, I revealed My “Best Of” Picks for 2023 and I had you as the Best Overall Performance by an Actress for the year, and alongside your fellow nominee, Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH), to boot!

ANNIKA: Thank you for believing in me that I could do it.

How did you to tackle your Emmy-nominated reel and what you were hoping to showcase?

ANNIKA: I was just so grateful to have the story to be able to pick from, and to really try to show the character growth and the arc of everything that happened to Hope Logan in the past year. For me, I really wanted to take the voters on a journey from her really being heavily influence by everyone’s opinions and everyone else’s voices, to her really coming into her own and going, “I don’t care if it’s the right or wrong choice, it’s my choice.”

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you end up submitting the landed you this Lead Actress Emmy nomination?

ANNIKA: I started with this great scene that our producers, Casey Kaspryzk and Rachel Herman actually remembered, where Hope walks in on her mother in her lingerie flirting with Ridge. And they remembered that scene. So, that really launched us off to Hope being kind of in this deep denial of, “I’m nothing like you. I’m not going to follow in your footsteps. I don’t have feelings for Thomas.” Cut to Liam confronting her about watching her give into her desires in Rome. And him saying, “Where were you Hope? At the Colosseum?” and then kind of in a roundabout full circle way, Brooke finding Thomas and Hope in bed together and then Hope really kind of going toe to toe with her mother. Then, ending with her kind of fully coming into her own as a woman and saying, “You wanted a divorce, Liam, here’s your divorce.” I really wanted to show the journey of her finding her own voice and advocating for her own choices and finding that inner strength, basically.

Photo: JPI

Was choosing the reel difficult given you had so much material within the 2023 calendar year of eligibility to consider?

ANNIKA: It was hard to pick and choose. There were a few I ended up leaving out. There was a really beautiful scene with Thomas where she realizes he overheard her kind of talking ill of him. That one was really hard to let go of.  I was also considering another scene with Liam where they actually signed the divorce papers. I’m just so grateful to even be able to have the material to choose from.

Photo: JPI

How did you find out you were nominated?

ANNIKA: Eva Basler, our VP of Communications & Talent Relations, called me and it meant so much to me to get that call from her. I tend to get nervous and have anxiety, so that day I just had to not think about it. So, I was out on a walk with my love, and my dog. We’re just in the middle of a cul-de-sac and my phone starts ringing. And it was the best surprise ever! Then, when I found out that Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B) got nominated alongside me, I immediately FaceTimed her. It was the funniest thing because she literally picks up and she is wearing a sun visor and sunglasses wrapped up on top of a horse as she’s in the middle of a mountain and in a valley on this beautiful white horse. It was the most picturesque thing.

I believe you know some of the women you are nominated with, obviously Katherine, but also Tamara Braun (Ava, Days), Finola Hughes, (Anna, GH), Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R). What are your thoughts on these nominees?

ANNIKA: Well first, I’m just so excited to be in this category with the other women. Tamara Braun, who I was nominated with previously in the Supporting Actress category I’m excited that she’s in this category with me. Michelle Stafford, who I see in the hallway all the time, is great, and Finola Hughes, I’m just like obsessed with from afar. I even watched her on Watch What Happens Live!  Cynthia, I hear her work is tremendous, and with Katherine, I’m just really grateful to get to share this with her. To be honored amongst these legends of daytime is amazing. Just to be seen in that way, that means more to me than anything.

Photo: JPI

You mentioned during B&B’s on-set Emmy celebration that this past year was a difficult one for you, and that everyone at the show really helped you through it. What meaning would winning the Emmy hold for you?

ANNIKA: That would be overwhelming. I wouldn’t even know how to describe it – an honor, a privilege, a blessing? It would mean the world to me, especially after this past year. That’s why it’s so significant, because even on the darkest says, the storms passes. You just have to hold on for that brighter day.

So, what did you think about the scenes Annika submitted for Lead Actress? Were they some of your favorite moments from the Emmy season? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant.
