General Hospital Offers Up Variation On Its Opening Title Theme Music!

On yesterday’s episode of General Hospital, viewers noticed their was a tweak to the GH opening music theme! A more sparse piano variation was juxtaposed against the images of the cast.

Some fans were wondering if indeed the theme had been changed, but if you listened and watched the end of the episode, when the closing credits rolled, the current theme that has been heard shortly after executive producer Frank Valentini was in charge continued to play in its standard theme.

Paul Glass, the award-winning musical director at GH at one point had revealed that there would be variations on the new opening theme, and it looks like they tried a version out on Wednesday’s episode.

In case you did not notice, or missed it, watch the video of the GH opening title sequence after the jump. What did you think of it?  Did you like the change?  Comment below!

The new theme sounded just fine to me.

I think it’s as swift and incomplete as ever. The last excuse I heard was that they did these shortened versions of the opening so that we would be able to see previews for the next day. Other soaps that show previews have a FULL beginning. You can barely make out who is on this show and unless you know who is on it, you’d have no idea. I want the old opening back where they showed the names along with the pictures of each actor.

I like the old sirens theme. Soap themes should have some spunk and energy to them.

I don’t like it. Why don’t each actor have their own shot? I know because the cast is too large! They should do shots of the hospital ER and outside with the ambulance without faces. Keep it simple and quick. Run their names at the end and each day in the beginning for those only to appear on that episode.

I didnt even pay attention…but im fine with it!!!

Im beginning to believe Britt is a Cassidine and Victor is her father…as much as i like to see Patrick turn to Liz after Robin departs(believing she was upset about Sabrinas baby who could later turn out to really belong to Carlos, i believe Liz will end up torn between him and Nik but will either man return those feelings…will Dr.O fire Liz if she learns and reveals Bens true parents: Dante and Lulu? Will Franco turn out to be Kikis father after all…will Micheal turn to Penny(if brought back) who is really Scotts missing daughter Serena?

errrrrrrr…ya got all that from the theme song? LOL…

Interesting conclusion from the opening credits, LOL! I really like the idea of Britt being a Cassadine, but that would be super weird because of her relationship with Nikolas, if that wasn’t a factor then I’d be all for it! It would definitely explain why Victor let Obrecht off the hook for her crimes alot better, and it would give Britt a father figure who isn’t presumed dead like Faison is.

I never liked Kiki (which is a stupid name, BTW) being Silas’ daughter; I think if Franco is her father, it would humanize him more. And I would love to see Scott’s daughter Serena brought back, but the cast is already pretty full with all the returns recently, so I don’t think it’s the best time to bring her back.

If Britt was Victor’s daughter that would make Nic and her cousins so I doubt that seriously.Just answering even thought I know the topic is the theme music.

Yep…i did Rebecca! kidding!! lol

LOL… funny Rebecca1

JImH you keep us entertained

If my memory is correct, Britt’s last name is Westbourne not Cassadine, she is Peter August’s half-sister. I’m not sure about the other characters storyline.

The entire opening credits could do with a reworking.

Agreed, I would like to see headshots of each actor separately, like B&B and Y&R have. And even though the older GH music (faces of the heart) is classic, I think a new, more modern theme, to fit in with the direction of the show now, would be better than reusing the old one.

I have to agree with you. I love GH these days but I just don’t like the opening. I much prefer the “old days,” when it was just a short title sequence with some music. I don’t need to see everyone’s faces to know who is on the show.

I like the regular one better – it kicks off the show with big energy!

I agree with you but I still miss the theme music from two years ago that is on my phone. Or further back to places of the heart.

It is all about more advertising time, but look at Y and R they still play a long version of Nadia’s Theme and love it

I loved it!

That was so underwhelming for a soap opening. You have these larger than life billboards flying at you and then the music sounds like its opening a show about quilting. Let’s not use that again folks.

I totally agree. It was FAST, QUIET, and sounded like a STATION BREAK, not an intro.
Bad idea.

Sucks!

I like it. It’s short and to the point…modern…I don’t need a concerto before the show.

I like it too..
It is modern and even a bit mysterious..
GH has the best opening(s)
It’s a modern 21st century opening!!

GH keeps up with media tech, the digital age ..
Very good GH!!

I agree with you both. Theme music aside, GH is hitting all cylinders..Cartoonish or over the top, its the best overall soap in daytime.

Loved It!!!!! I knew I wasn’t hearing things!! It flowed right into the opening from the dramatics nene it was exiting. It was like primetime!!! I still miss the opening before frank came on board but I’m use to it now.

Soaps are supposed to have great themes to stand out. This one needs to be at least 35 seconds and with a siren, i mean it is GENERAL HOSPITAL, hospital being the key word here. Soap themes live with u forever!!!!

What about the original ambulance siren, Use to make me run from outside knowing my GH was about to begin, For me, It really doesn’t matter. As, I shall pick better battles then GH music.

Short is better. Use the time on the actual story. If you dont already watch and know the storylines, extended opening isnt going to bring new viewers.

LIKE IT!! CLASSY!!

Both themes are good and have different feels to them. one is dramatic and the other emotional . Both should be used and it should reflective the tone of that days show.

The messed up thing is Kiki.Franco and Silas will appear in the opening no mater what yuck.

Who cares.. just keep the good writing and less intro so we can see more of the stories… I always fast forward thru the commercials and into anyways.. no time for that intro…

GH Continues to impress me every day more and more…

I don’t like it at all, I actually thought something was wrong with the video I was watching. It sounds like it’s missing something.

I did not like the opening on 2/5. There was nothing to it at all. I did notice that today was business as usual however which pleased me.

sounded nice. short, but nice. reminded me of what you might hear for a primetime medical drama break for commercial.

Nope, quit trying to fix something that wasnt broken…all aspects of the show. Been a fan since 1978, losing me slowly…its not OLTL or AMC its GH…keep it that way!

I didn’t like it at all, sounded to ominous to me like I was about to watch “The Phantom of the Opera” or something. Please Please Please change it back! I agree 100% with the above comment that the previous opening track is filled with more energy and gets you pumped to watch the episode!

i miss the old theme with the ambulance siren in the beginning and ending with the shot of gh. this should have been brought back if only for it’s 50th anniv. yr. since frank took over and changed it, that means extra time to get a drink or bathroom break. i don’t even watch the opening song anymore since commercials follow right after. i also liked when they changed it to the faces of the contract actors and ending with luke walking away. at least that version was still the gh song that i would hum along to. 🙁

why would you WANT to watch the opening song…it’s basically the same song…it’s not a story…it’s like staring at the cover of a book each day before you open the page to read it.

it’s a new day people…snap out of it!!! (insert Cher slapping your face here!)

Old theme was better–the new one is bland.

Anything is an improvement–music is so generic and uninspired–not memorable in any way–more’s the pity.
Bring back the old opening–or at least keep it and tweak it a bit with a stripped down, contemporary vibe. Let us have a moment to take it in and breathe. Also would be nice to see the characters–instead of the blur we see now as they go by.
Nothing to get excited about as it stands–more’s the pity.

Damn. Why not use a ringtone instead? That would sound better than this.

Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain Announce They Have Ended Their Marriage

After much speculation, General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) and Cady McClain (ex-Jennifer, DAYS, ex-Rosanna, ATWT, ex-Dixie, AMC et al) have officially confirmed and announced they have gone their separate ways and have ended their marriage.

For months on social media, it was clear that the two were seemingly apart, not appearing pictured in any of each others posts.

Now, on a mutually shared Instagram post, Jon and Cady made an official statement on the status of their relationship, beginning with “Cady and Jon here. We are taking this opportunity to make a short statement about our relationship status. It may be obvious to some based on our posts that we’ve taken some time apart. After serious consideration we have decided that our goals have been taking us in different directions and to end our marriage.”

As to the future, Jon and Cady explained, “We remain friends and wish each other every happiness. As people who work in the public eye, it can be difficult to have a private life. Regardless, we ask for your kind consideration in this matter.”

Adam Huss Makes Another Return to General Hospital as Nikolas Cassadine

Nikolas Cassadine will be back on your screens next week but now via Pentonville. That means, that actor Adam Huss is back for a visit for all-new episodes of General Hospital.

In story, Ava (Maura West) comes to visit her ex in the slammer. So, just what does Ava want now? She clearly has been working an agenda on Sonny (Maurice Benard). Is she working with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)? What will she tell Nikiolas? stay tuned.

Meanwhile, once news of Huss’ return broke earlier on Friday via Soap Opera Digest, he also announced his return on his Instagram expressing, “For all those who’ve been asking, cat’s out of the bag;) Thank you to all my #Nikolas #GH fans for your unwavering support. I don’t take it for granted for a second! (Even when I can’t answer 😊) #generalhospital”

Photo: ABC

Huss took over the role of Nikolas back in January of 2023, after Marcus Coloma left the soap opera. Previous to that, Huss filed in for Coloma in September of 2021 and November of 2022. Fast-forward to January of 2024, Nikolas gave Ace to Laura and Kevin to raise, while he eventually turned himself into the police for kidnapping Esme and keeping her hostage while she was pregnant and Wyndemere.

The return of Huss comes on the heels of multiple reports that his on-screen son, Nicholas Chavez is not returning to the show as Spencer Cassadine, while in story Spencer is believed to have drowned int the Seine River after falling off a boat in France, when drugged by Esme.

So, looking forward to seeing Adam Huss back as Nikolas? Do you think GH will eventually have him more full-time? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny and Jason Trade Threats on Each Other

The love affair that once was mobster Sonny (Maurice Benard) and hit man Jason (Steve Burton), and having each others back, is now apparently over! On the Thursday April 25th episode of General Hospital, an increasingly paranoid Sonny is confronted by Jason.

Jason wants to talk to Sonny about a “family matter”, but Sonny says they aren’t family now because he’s working with the Feds. Sonny goes on to say how he cannot trust Carly (Laura Wright) or Jason and he knows about Jason buying back the Metro Court for Carly from Nina (Cynthia Watros).

When the conversation turns to Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Dex (Evan Hofer), Jason informs Sonny that Kristina (Kate Mansi) knows Sonny ordered a hit. Jason is worried about Dex’s safety. He tells Sonny that if he does something to Dex, Kristina will figure out that he is responsible.

Sonny goes on to say how much he loves his kids and how he will protect them. He then tears into Jason for abandoning his sons, Danny and Jake, for two years and how he has no right to stand there to tell him what to do.

Jason warns Sonny again to leave Dex alone or he’ll personally stop him. Sonny snaps at Jason, countering, “You’ll die trying!” And at that point, Jason walks out and Sonny slams the door behind him.

What do you think about this split in the longstanding relationship of Jason and Sonny? Do you like Jason and Sonny at odds? Will Kristina be the person to ultimately figure out what is happening to Sonny, or it might it be Nina, who knows Ava (Maura West) is up to no good? Share your thoughts in the comment section, but first watch this clip from part of the Sonny/Jason scenes below.
