AEW DYNAMITE GRAND SLAM: Jon Moxley Becomes 3-Time World Champ, ‘The Acclaimed’ Win Tag Team Belts For 1st Time

Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite Grand Slam on TBS, direct from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York was a stacked television card featuring multiple title bouts.
In the main event, Jon Moxley faced Bryan Danielson. Both men, who are members of the Blackpool Combat Club, won their spots to battle for the AEW World Title in a tournament after previous champ, C.M. Punk was reportedly suspended and injured, causing the AEW World Title to be vacant.
The suspension came after an alleged backstage brawl following a press scrum where Punk after AEW’s All Out pay-per-view in Chicago got into altercations with the Elite (The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega). The Elite had previously won the AEW Trios championship but were stripped of that title, as well.

Going into Grand Slam, most AEW fans felt the momentum was for Danielson to win the belt. However, it was not meant to be his night. Moxley pinned Danielson, with MJF looming in a stadium sky box complete with the large-sized poker chip that he won at All Out in the Casino Ladder Match (with the help of The Firm). MJF can cash that chip in and wrestle Moxley for the title at apparently, anytime. The smart bet is on MJF to become the next AEW World Champion given his rise in popularity with the audience, even though he is the master heel of the company. Bad boys rule!
In addition, in a history-making moment, The Acclaimed took down Swerve and Our Glory, to become first-time AEW World Tag Team Champions. The crowd was ready for the title to change hands, given this was a rematch between Anthony Bowens and Max Caster (The Acclaimed) vs. Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee (Swerve in Our Glory) from All Out. The win makes Bowens AEW’s first LGBTQ Champion in its history.
Both Bowens and Caster took to social media after their popular victory. Bowens shared: “When my Nana passed in 2015 I promised her I’d be a success. Nana, I made it! AEW’s first Gay Champion. Most tag team wins in AEW Most popular team in wrestling. EVERYONE LOVES THE ACCLAIMED.. your #ForeverChamps.”
While Caster shared: “YO! LISTEN! The Acclaimed are YOUR @AEW world champions. The People’s Choice. Winningest team. Best homegrown team. We are the New Legends.”

Chris Jericho won his eighth pro-wrestling title in his iconic career, beating Claudio Castagnoli with a low blow to take home the Ring of Honor Heavyweight Championship. In another shady maneuver, ‘The Bastard’ Pac used the ring bell hammer to clobber Orange Cassidy in the head to score the pin and retain the All-Atlantic Championship.

Finally, in the ‘sudden arrival department’, Saraya (formerly known as WWE’s Paige) put all the AEW Women’s Division on notice, when she halted Dr. Britt Baker DMD, Jamie Hayter, Serena Deeb’s beat down of Athena and Toni Storm and make her presence known. Saraya made it clear that she is going to take over the Women’s Division.

??????
My thoughts also
You do realize this is Michael Fairman TV right? You did read when he posted how his website was changing correct? I did.
No, I have to say I didn’t read that. Thanks for the information.
How doomed are the soaps ???
I’m confused…why is this item on this particular site? Does this mean if I turn on ESPN, I’ll get updates on GENERAL HOSPITAL?
Well… Stephen A Smith DOES appear on both, so it’s possible.
I know they’ve always said that wrestling was a “testosterone soap opera” but…lol
Michael, I didn’t know you cared
Not a wrestling fan any longer, but I am a fan of hot pics LOL!
davlestev1…As kids we would roll around in front of the tv when my Dad had “wrestling” on. Long ago outgrew it with no appeal as an adult. Also not into over muscled, grown, sweaty men who spend far too much time at the gym lifting weights. :))
I know that wrestling is scripted and it’s sports entertainment, but I never thought I’d see the day that AEW made headlines over WWE.
Good Job Everybody!!!

AEW DYNAMITE: Adam Cole Announces Injury Requiring Surgery; The Devil Mask and Assailants Beat Down Jay White

On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, viewers learned of the fate and the condition of Adam Cole when he came out to the ring on a pair of crutches along with MJF. Cole, was also wearing a cast on his leg.
On last week’s special episode of AEW Dynamite Grand Slam, Cole was to run-in and leap from the ramp on the stage to ringside to help MJF in his championship match against Samoa Joe, but he landed wrong. The update was not good. Cole broke his ankle in three different places, but also tore ligaments and will require surgery as a result.
This is a tough one, considering Cole previously battled back from a severe head injury suffered during the Forbidden Door PPV in 2002, which took him out of action for nine months.
Once in the ring on last night’s Dynamite, Cole was about to say that because he can’t wrestle at Sunday’s WrestleDream PPV, he and Max are going to have to relinquish the ROH Tag Team titles, since they can’t defend them in their scheduled match.
That’s when MJF cut him off, saying he knew Cole wouldn’t have gotten injured if it wasn’t for him, and didn’t want their title run to end this way. He instead will defend their titles in a handicap match. The segment came to its conclusion when Cole’s ‘friend’ Roderick Strong was wheeled out in a wheelchair, pleading with Adam to help him as he “needed him” now. MJF told Adam to go to his friend and Cole limped out of the ring on crutches.
Next, Jay White came out to the ring to confront MJF. Clearly, AEW is shifting gears for a White vs MJF championship match, if this is currently the end of the line for the MJF and Cole tag team story run, for now.
However, at the end of the episode, the cameras went backstage where four masked men dressed in black beat down White, and then the camera revealed MJF’s devil mask. So, does this mean MJF is behind the attack on White? Is someone else wearing MJF’s devil mask? Did Bullet Club Gold set up the champ? Does Adam Cole have anything to do with this?
Share your theories on the cliffhanger on AEW Dynamite, and let us know what you think of the ankle injury to Adam Cole via the comment section below. But first, check out the tweet from Cole’s girlfriend AEW wrestler Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D on his condition.
This guy broke his ankle in 3 places on a freak accident. He still hobbled around on live tv because as we like to say “the show must go on”. @AdamColePro gives his entire heart and soul to pro wrestling. He’s one tough cookie and this is just a small bump in the road. He’ll be… pic.twitter.com/Aya1JWTTvF

AEW Fires CM Punk; Terminates Contract ‘With Cause’ Following Backstage Altercations at ‘All In’

In a shocking development, but left with no choice, AEW has decided to fire CM Punk (Phil Brooks) effective immediately. The news came via an official press release on Saturday afternoon, just ahead of two key live events on television and pay-per-view this Labor Day weekend.
With both AEW Collision and the pay-per-view All Out, both in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, tonight and Sunday night, respectively, the timing of this couldn’t be worse for the company, as many were hoping somehow Punk might somehow wind up on those shows.
However, going into this week, CM Punk and Jack Perry were suspended by AEW after their backstage fight at AEW All in London last Saturday. Additional reports supported that Punk got into a verbal altercation with AEW Owner and CEO, Tony Khan in the Guerilla production position before going out for his match against Samoa Joe. At that time, Punk yelled at Khan that he was quitting AEW.

As to the fate of Jack Perry (the son of 90210’s late Luke Perry) has not yet revealed, as it is believed he incited the incident by first making a statement live on All In during his match with Hook. On camera close-up, Perry made a snide comment directed at Punk, about Punk’s refusal the week prior, to let Perry break actual glass for the safety of everyone in a match. Backstage reports since the incident shared that Punk and Perry went ‘nose to nose’ after Perry’s match. Then, Punk shoved and punched Perry before choking him.
Here is what AEW said on their cutting ties with Punk effective immediately:
“All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has terminated the wrestler and employment agreements between Phillip Brooks (CM Punk) and AEW with cause, effective immediately. The termination was confirmed today by Tony Khan, CEO, General Manager and Head of Creative AEW. The termination follows a weeklong internet investigation of an incident occurring backstage at AEW – All In London on Sunday, August 27. Following the investigation, the AEW Discipline Committee met and later convened with outside legal counsel before making a unanimous recommendation to Khan that CM Punk be terminated with cause.”

Khan offered the following statement: “Phil played an important role within AEW and I thank him for his contributions. The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision and mine alone. Of course, I wish I didn’t have to share this news, which may come as a disappointment to many of our fans. Nevertheless, I am making the decision in the best interests of the many amazing people who make AEW possible every week – our talent, staff, venue operators and many others whose efforts are unsung but essential to bringing our fans great shows on television and at arenas and stadiums throughout the world.”
So, what does this mean for Warner Brothers/Discovery’s investment in a Saturday night pro wrestling show on television, now that the biggest name familiar to audiences all over the world has been dropped from the organization? Share your thoughts, are you glad Punk was fired … or do you think anything else could have been done by the company after Punk one-year ago delivered shocking comments at the All Out pay per view which he trashed The Elite, Hangman Page and Colt Cabana?

AEW: CM Punk and Jack Perry Face Suspensions, Taken Off ‘All Out’, Reports of More Backstage Incidents

CM Punk made headlines over the weekend again, which caused a distraction to what should have been purely about AEW: All In London as a well-done record-breaking event.
However, as the pay-per-view was going down, reports surfaced of another backstage altercation between Punk and Jack Perry. It began on the Zero Hour buy-in show, prior to All In. During Jack Perry’s match against Hook, there was a spot that involved a car window. Perry looked into the camera and said, “It’s real glass, cry me a river.” That remark appeared to be directed at Punk, who had previously raised concerns of Perry’s desire to use real glass on a recent episode of AEW Collision.
Next, another altercation was reported. After Punk’s match with Samoa Joe, that opened All In, Miro asked Punk what had happened with Perry. This, resulted in an argument where Punk essentially asked Miro if he had a problem with him now and if he wanted to “step outside”. However, other sources are saying this Miro story, “Isn’t true.”

Photo: AEW
In addition, according to PW Torch: Punk “chewed out” AEW President Tony Khan in a confrontation that was said to be “intense,” while both where in the gorilla position backstage, and then later in Punk’s locker room. Reports incidicated, Punk threatened to quit AEW, which had been previously reported putting his opening match with Samoa Joe in jeopardy just moments before the start of All In.
Now. with AEW about to go live on Wednesday night with Dynamite, Saturday night with Collision and All Out on Sunday in which each show is emanating from Chicago this week, it seems Punk’s suspension will prevent him from being part of the cards in front of his own hometown.
We will keep you updated on this developing story,.
So, what do you think is going on with CM Punk? Why is he continually at the epicenter of backstage brawls and altercations? Do you believe all of this will turn out to be true, pending AEW’s investigation on the matter? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
