Anthony Morina OUT as Co-Executive Producer of The Young and the Restless
The end of the year always brings with it layoffs and changes at many companies, and 2022 has been no different and in many respects, worse.
Now comes word that Anthony Morina is out as co-executive producer of The Young and the Restless.
According to Daytime Confidential, multiple sources informed the online outlet that Morina was let go.
Later, Morina confirmed his exit to Soap Hub sharing: “After 16 years, it’s time to move on to other things. I’m most proud of keeping the show going over the last two and a half years through COVID once we returned after the initial production shutdown.”
Morina has had a long history with the top-rated soap including as its former supervising producer. Then, in 2018, Tony was promoted to Co-EP at this same time of year replacing former Y&R showrunner and head writer, Mal Young.
Throughout his daytime career, Tony spent time as a director on All My Children, General Hospital, Port Charles, Sunset Beach and Generations. Tony is married to Sally Sussman, the former head writer of Y&R, and creator of Generations.
Although unconfirmed at this time, with the departure of Morina, look for Josh Griffith to be Y&R’s sole showrunner as well as its head writer.
Michael Fairman TV will keep you apprised of further behind the scenes changes in Genoa City.
What do you think of Anthony Morina’s departure as Co-EP of The Young and the Restless? Comment below.
Y and R has really rebounded in the last little while! Let’s trim some budget fat and get it back on track!!
Bye and pls take Josh Griffith with you!
About time finally!
Worst showrunner writer combo in y n r history!
The boring and the bland!
If Griffin becomes the sole runner for both positions, we’re screwed.
Definitely!
Such exciting storylines – for two episodes Tess lost her voice and became a model, she and Mariah want to adopt, they move to the unseen Neuman stable house, they have no gay friends, just hang out with Sharon. Noah opens the worst looking bar set in daytime television, enabling the show to rest the lobby set now that Phyllis sold her businesses the Chancelor Enterprises, which sells exactly what?
Matthew, I agree on every point. Gay friends? Many characters (Victoria, Ashley, Billy, Lily) don’t seem to have ANY real friends. Poor Noah.. such a beautiful man trapped in a club that makes the Nostromo ship from ALIEN look like Disneyland. I don’t know what these power upsets really do, but something needs to change, especially the hysterical obsession with Diane. Such a dull character sure causes a lot of consternation for everyone, including me.
I agree with another poster…”take Josh Griffith with you.” It’s as if they are / were allergic to drama. It’s only been recently they’ve somewhat amped up the soapy-drama…
Now if CBS/Sony will just get rid of Josh Griffith…..
This may show who really had their foot on the brake pedal when it came to how stories played out. Time will tell but, it’s literally the only U.S. Soap I watch now. It can be meandering but still interesting. Especially that verbal shouting match between Jack and Phyllis recently. I rewound and watched it again. That’s good soap. Thought provoking conversations are good but not for 90% of a show. DRAMA. I NEED DRAMA AND DANGER! End of.
Never follow who is in and out. Just follow the program out of habit before sleeping. If something or someone starts to upset, I just remind myself it is a SOAP which I like. This is the only one I watch. It is not only the story lines, but the fashion (even the fabrics which bought silk to an annoying forefront for a bit, the hairstyles, set design, furniture coverings — I don’t know a lot much better to pull one away from the real world.
I find new Noah and Chance very appealing and would like them to stick around. Of course, Victor is forever a part of Y&R, but he is aging as a Mafia guy trudging around in a black coat.
There is no one I despise. The storylines are so scattered. I watch the acting skills which go up and down according to the script as has been pointed out to me. Diane is one of the most skilled seen in a long time. Adam stands out as, at times so does Abbey. Victoria slips easily into her father’s shoes.
Thanks for many comforting and amusing reprieves.
Y&R needs some new storyline. I’m tired of the Diane storyline. I’m also not liking Jack and the way he treats everyone. Almost wanted to stop watching the show.
I agree the story lines are terrible. Diane Diane and Jack they need to go away far far away
Kathy, my holiday wish is that Jack spend Christmas at the cabin with Diane… and they NEVER return. Jack is an insufferable, betraying dupe and that woman is as dull as dishwater. A match made in soap heaven.
Soaphound,
I haven’t seen Jack act so clueless in a long time and uses Kyle as an excuse always with how much he needs and wants to be with his Mommy. I think he wants to be with Diane too but knows it’s wrong and stupid to admit it. He better keep his eyes on the real prize, which is Jabot and not duplicitous Diane!
Kathy, and others,
I agree with so many of you and you can call me old fashioned but those two pigs in plain English, is too much. I’m speaking of Audra and Tucker. He’s getting all shook up over Ashley and blatantly calls Audra for a booty call. I know it’s part of her job but to see this young woman run to do his bidding makes me sick.
This show is the worst. I only watch it for the Women’s fashion. If I had a dollar for every time they say “Diane” or “COO” “CEO” I would be wealthy
I wish we’d get more action here on Y&R. A lot of us enjoy this show and there is hardly any news about it, Danny and Michael coming to town, whoopee! Old Jack making a fool of himself and being just plain stupid, Billy doing just about the same thing,Nick too, OMG, what’s wrong with these men?
The show has become horrible. Bold n beautiful is much better. Young n restless the story’s are boring the music is horrible. The show never has been good since bill bell unfortunately passed on. You need to bring back the music you used back in thev90s the show has lost many peoples inteest.
Getting real sick of the Diane show also someone posted the other day about what happened to love in the afternoon, well I’ve seen enough to last me awhile between Tucker and his literal call girl and Devon and Abby, plus the Fifty/Sixty something group, Jack and Diane, Ashley and Tucker, Chance and Sharon, etc, etc,Oy Vey!
No place else to post this as they seem to exclude Y&R SLs unless it’s about Diane.
I almost didn’t recognize poor Noah today, poor guy, they turned him into a DORK for lack of a better word. Talk about a hatchet job, how could he allow them or want to look like that?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
