According to reports from Soap Opera Digest and Daytime Confidential, former General Hospital favorite Brandon Barash has temporarily replaced Tyler Christopher, in the role of Stefan DiMera at Days of our Lives.

Brandon played mobster Johnny Zacchara on GH from 2007-2016.

Because DAYS tapes well in advance; look for Barash to hit the air sometime in early 2019.

What are your thoughts on Brandon as temp replacement for Tyler as Stefan O? Comment below.

Love it. He will be a good Stefan although I think an even better Chad.

“god,.. you are right, tho… “

Hmmm, is history repeating itself? Didn’t Tyler Christopher pull this stunt on GH when he was “temporarily” replaced as Nikolas on GH? Soon he was gone permanently and then character was killed off…Don’t get it twisted I LOVE me some Tyler Christopher but he seems fairly fickle when it comes to work. Oh well, I hope it is indeed temporary but I have been around this soap opera block way too many times.

I totally agree.

Nicholas’s body has never been found so he could still be alive.

I hope he gets help like maybe Betty Ford. It did help Steven Tyler. Alcoholism is no joke.

Any addiction is no joke.

Make Brandon permanent and bring Tyler back to GH!

Let’s hope Tyler get his life sorted out before thinking of bringing him back to GH.

Why?

Sorry, I just don’t get/see this (temp) recast..

Congrats to BB. I hope Tyler gets help for his alcoholism.

Geez, why don’t you put up a billboard, in case someone missed this that didn’t know.Do you know this for a fact, or just gossip? Either way, why spread this about Tyler.

Violet, alcoholism is a devastating disease and nothing to be ashamed of.

Well thanks to you Harry for enlightening me on something most people know, which had nothing to do with my comment. Maybe there are things some people like to keep private as long as they can, for different reasons, I.e.having cancer or being pregnant is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, but someone may like to keep it to themselves, until they are ready to make it public. Someone may wear a wig, due to a physical condition, but does it have to become common knowledge? Let’s just agree to disagree, OK?

Nope, not going to take the bait, Miss Violent. As I told the woman who thought I dashed in front of her as she gazed endlessly on at the egg section in my local supermarket,”My cart of crazy is filled up–not going to do it. Best of luck to you though.”

Oh my, Harry…..You do seem to have the most trying experiences in the shopping arena! Even though i always enjoy your humorously-recounted stories of such, I cannot help but think that maybe you need to expand your retailing options since it appears all the crazies frequent your favorite haunts….And people wonder why online sales continue to increase??? This is it…

I didn’t know this till : -this thread

Mr. Nicholas… clean up… mid 50 if we haven’t learned the basic by now

goodbye

the wife and kids come first

I understand the addiction it’s on all the time

We don’t know for a fact he is an alcoholic. He is aware of staying healthy and eats well hard to believe he drink like a fish.

God’ I’ve got to throw in… you are such a good actor “Please”

any where.. speculation as it is… Brandon Barash is “HOT” “HOT” in keys plus

he turns ME like you

be well

I never heard that Tyler had a drinking problem and I’d be more than surprised if that was true. He’s a complete health nut. Totally into fitness, running, his own smoothies, etc. And, obviously; look at his body. I agree with Violet; unless it’s confirmed it’s not too cool to just state as a fact what might not be.

Not to mention the fact that printing such a thing is libelous, unless it’s confirmed to be true.

Hi Rebecca, not to beat a dead horse, but thanks.
Did you or anyone see DWTS Tues.night. Our own little Jake was on stage with the other kids, dancing their hearts out. Hope to see more next time. I FF, so I can just see the kids, especially Jake/Hudson West, so cute!

Hi Violet; no, haven’t seen it but I’ll check it out somehow. DWTS was actually one of my favorite shows. Couldn’t rave enough about it; pure entertainment. And then I just had other things going on and just sorta stopped. I’ve no doubt it’s wonderful and I adore Hudson West! He’s too, too cute so I’ll be sure to find it.

I’m okay with this

Johnny Zucchini as a DiMera is probably a better fit than Nikolas Cassadine as a DiMera.

Not that the Stefan character ever made a whole Hell of a lot of sense anyway. A good portion of Hell’s population is made up of Stefano DiMera’s children… because none of them ever seem to live very long!

because we want that distinct distraction.. hey it’s you every time…. Johnny Zuchara.. BLEST with the best

I bet the longest wish list is as long as Peter Blake , played so well by Jason Brooke.. HE NEEDS TO GET HOME

PRONTO

Thrilled to see Barasch back on television, just wish it was under better circumstances. Only best wishes to Tyler and hope to see him back soon.

This is fantastic news! I read the title of the article and thought it was permanent. Wish that were the case! I’d rather see Brandon Barash as a permanent replacement as Stefan-O. I think he could get more of a handle on the role. Bummer, I was really excited seeing the title which made me assume that GH made Tyler an offer he couldn’t refuse to return as Nicholas on GH. I look forward to Brandon in the role and see what he offers to the role. I want to see more depth in this character and right now, I’m not getting that. Bring it, Brandon and welcome, temporarily, that is.

Right now Brandon Barash is only a temporary replacement but that could always change to a permanent one depending on what happens with Tyler Christopher and any issues he’s dealing with in his life.Plus i’m sure there have been other times on soaps where an actor was a temporary replacement but then became a permanent one.

I couldn’t agree more, Jeremy. Brandon is a terrific actor and beyond beautiful to gaze upon. I’d been hoping GH would rectify their error in letting him go, but they’re too busy creating horrible, hateful new characters like Peter “Puke” August. I guess there’s no accounting for taste. Can’t wait for Brandon to start.

Leave my Peter alone, Soaphound. Love him. Truly! (I think this is the first actor we disagree on.) 🙂

Jeremy – you are so right

after this time on… I havent’ seen a steady Tyler Christopher… I haven’t seen a Dimera MYSTIQUE. where

YET I still – love – him… always will do

I will ” – love – ” that man, if possible

I adore and connect with him seriously

he’s connecting on DAYS I just don’t see him on seriously

once this “it’s his baby, Gabi” ENDS what then ??? the action that happened with the brotherly love happened.. it shouldn’t aint

too bad.. I love the Man from General Hospital.. I do… for 20- odd years

blame the writer

Shelley and Chis ANd Frank Valentini @GH… snowed in… magnet closed.. just DOA

I think Brandon would have made a great Chad recast!

My thoughts exactly!!! He would have been a PERFECT Chad!!

OK-
Why will Tyler be gone?
that’s the question..
(nothing serious, I hope)

Brandon/Johnny Zacchara , I have big luvs for Johnny Z.
I what him back with GH !
GH needs a Zacchara to bring excitement!
(( I more than miss the crime families , they were the good ol’ days, the days of excitement and edgy stories.

DAYS should keep Brandon Barash in the role of Stefan to allow Tyler Christopher to return as Nikolas on GH, where he belongs. With Laura coming back in the near future, it would be the perfect time for Nikolas to return from the “dead” and reclaim his place in the Cassadine family.

I do think GH will bring Nikolas back eventually and he could become a love interest for Ava because they were getting closer before Nikolas supposedly died.

it would definitely equal out.. GH gets the win … dang Tyler
dang @Days’ Brandon Barash same act… PLUSSED OUT

No….I WANT Tyler Christopher to RETURN to Days! I wish him the best for now while he gets his problems taken care of, or whatever is going on. Hope he comes back!

Im ok with Tyller but he kind of sleepwalks through his role…

I agree, Jimh. Maybe it’s just me, but there’s nothing worse than actor who KNOWS how good-looking he is. It creates a distance between the audience; I never connect emotionally with them. I liked TC as Nikolas Cassadine because the character seemed similar to his persona…smug and cool (though still sexy). But most actors seem able to submerge that ego when performing and create sympathetic characters. I think Brandon will be a success on DAYS. Boy, this show sure has the market cornered on gorgeous guys. Send some over to Y&R!

“thank you” for saying … “this show sure has the market cornered on gorgeous guys” the best and the writing and their acting acts… walks

thank you DAYS for being the best

I don’t know, Soaphound; I think Tyler’s doing a great job as Stefan O. He’s completely different than Nicolas. Though both subdued, Nicolas was a beloved character yet at the same time reserved; not the most “personable” character on the show. But as Stefan O Tyler’s portrayal isn’t supposed to create a “sympathetic” or likeable character. He’s ruthless; he takes what he wants, bargains for what others want yet does so without the slightest raise of voice or fit of rage. At the same time, I truly felt for him when he fell in love with Gabigail. As twisted as it was, to him she was the dominant personality and he fought for her persona to win out. In that sense, again, Tyler conveyed for me a ruthless yet empathetic character.

I’ve been very impressed with him in this role.

Uh-oh. Second time we disagree; I love Wes/Peter! But that’s what makes this site go round… 😉

Hard to say how I feel since I wish both actors were back at GH in the characters they were when they were there.

I think he’ll do well.

Oh, I really like BB–so cute! Wish he was back on GH (and Tyler C., too!!).

it makes me wish… for Sarah Joy Browne … Sarah !!!! JOY

Carly Carly Carly

What’s the reason?

Love watching Brandon Barash. Would prefer him back on GH, but happy to see him back on soaps even if it’s temporarily!

Absolutely, Pat! Johnny Z may have had a gangster pedigree, but he began as a reluctant mob prince and managed to retain his heart and humanity no matter the violent direction his life ultimately took…his character was head and shoulders above the tedious Sonny when it came to tales of drama and romance! Would love to have him back in action on GH instead of Peter the Puke…Faison’s seriously underwhelming offspring has nothing on BB’s Johnny!

My first choice for him would have been a replacement for Michael Weatherley on NCIS. The character he played on that show worked well with the rest of the NCIS cast

@Pat….I’m not familiar with any of Brandon’s primetime work, but I’m sure he’d be a great asset to any show. I just loved him as Johnny Z….he was so much more than simply a one-dimensional mobster and far, far more engaging than the stale, one-note Sonny! And the way he played off of his crazed father, er, I mean, grandfather, Anthony, was amazing. Still miss Bruce Weitz’s comical character, too! How he made me laugh with his insane antics….

I somehow don’t think he’d take too well, to that slap on the back of his head, by Gibbs, ha.

As far as I’m concerned, Brandon Barash can PERMANENTLY STAT AT DOOL!!!!! To me, Tyler Christopher’s acting has always been one-dimensional…and one-note. And besides…Tyler’s acting has always BORED ME TO TEARS!!!!! Beyond yuck.

Later.

jaybird369, I totally agree with you! On all counts! This is from someone who actually preferred Colton Scott (aka Stephen Martines) as Nikolas on GH. But how awesome to see Brandon Barash back on screen! Take care, Friend!

James…as always, thanks for the backup, Brother!!!!! Much, much appreciated.

Have a good one, Brother.

OMG, Tyler’s acting has been anything BUT one-dimensional. You must be watching him with your eyes closed.

Wow, Stefan just got a whole lot better looking. Although it remains to be seen how well BB can play a bad guy, its good to have an Italian back playing a DiMera again.

Except he’s not Italian; Barash is Jewish. Unless you’re talking about “Johnny Z.”

In fact the entire Zacchara family was portrayed by Jewish actors. Maybe they should have made them a Jewish mob family? Descendants of Bugsy Siegel or Meyer Lansky maybe.

Of course confusing one side of the Mediterranean for another is nothing new in Hollywood. Henry Winkler played the most famous Italian on TV in the 70’s, right?

The Fonz; Yep!

I sing this battle cry constantly; Jewish people just don’t exist on soaps. LOL; They made Hayden’s father, a character who was on for a total of about ten minutes, a Jewish ponzi scheme crook. And then there was Bernie. Interesting how General Hospital has no Jewish doctors! Along comes Matt Cohen…he’s a doctor… and a priest. Stuart Damon, Sarah Brown, Nancy Grahan (1/2), Sean Kanan, Matt Cohen, Brandon Barash, Tamara Braun, Vanessa Marcel; the list of Jewish actors goes on. But none of them play Jewish characters. Don Diamont (Bill on B&B) is Jewish, too.

That’s why I think it’s the epitome of hypocrisy when they say soaps are practicing diversity. I guess that only applies to race.

I’m glad my comment triggered some interesting discussion and info I didn’t know about. I grew up with the Fonz, how could I not know he was Jewish with a surname like Winkler? I guess I got the character and actor mixed up, same as Brandon “Zaccharia” Barrash.

LOL; s’okay. Happens. And, yes, it informed those who didn’t know about the background of some Jewish actors who aren’t given Jewish roles to play on soaps since Jewish characters barely exist there. (There’s probably many more that you aren’t aware of both on soaps and on primetime, etc.) But acting is acting. We all step into others shoes…

I really think its awful that he is being replaced if he has an alcohol problem. Isn’t that what Days of our lives story lines is always preaching giving second and third chances to people who have been mentally ill for example, Abby and other characters who played alcoholics like Lucas, Maggie, and Jennifer on pain killers. Why write about what people should try to do instead of actually living what you write and practice it. I’m meaning the Days wrters and who ever has to deal with it. it really doesnt make sense.and yes im not advocating babying him but please is there no compassion anymore???

I really doubt Tyler has an alcohol problem, he is very much into health and fitness, as is his wife. He is a nutritionist and personal trainer when he is not acting. I have a feeling that these rumors were started by racists because Tyler is American Indian and active in that community (American Indians being drunks has long been a stereotype, though unfortunately a real problem in that community because of poverty, depression, and lower tolerances to alcohol).

I like Brandon better as Stephan. I did notice a large scar on his chest & would like to know what happened.

Rosie O’Donnell Says She Will Return to ‘The View’ During its Season 30

Published

By

Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she plans to head back to a seat at the table of ABC’s morning talk show The View.

The announcement came during Monday’s episode of The Tangle Podcast where she shared she will participate in “in whatever way they want” her or “just as a guest” for its upcoming 30th season.

The View’s season 30 will kick-off this fall in September. O’Donnell explained, “They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think. And, you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”

Photo: ABC

ROSIE ON HER PREVIOUS GO-ROUNDS ON THE VIEW

As fans of The View know, O’Donnell famously had two different one-year stints on the talk show in 2007 and again in 2014- 2015. She often feuded with then co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

However, during her discussion with host, Kyle Ridley on The Tangle Podcast, O’Donnell also noted she often had tense moments with longtime moderator and anchor, Whoopi Goldberg.

O’Donnell also expressed, “Many, many people got the short end of the stick there. It was, you know, it was a factory where people were being churned in and out and their tenuous security, nobody got to be calm. It also was a show at the time that was run by a man. A show created by a woman, for women, about women, and the man was deciding what we should talk about. And that didn’t sit right with me, you know.”

Back in 2023, Brooke Shields had asked Rosie on her podcast, Now What? with Brooke Shields, about how she felt on her two stints at The View and all the controversy that surrounded it. Rosie at that time, stated, “I know this, it’s not the best use of my talent to get in a show where I have to argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness. It was not something I’d ever do again.”

You can check out the clip with Rosie and Kyle Ridley discussing her return to The View in some form for its upcoming 30th season below.

Then weigh-in: Would you be excited to see Rosie, even for a one-day or a week guest stint on the upcoming celebratory season of The View, or not so much? Let us know via the comment section.

Television Academy and NATAS Open Reunification Talks After Split Almost 50 Years Ago

Published

on

By

Emmys

In what could prove to be a massive shake-up ahead, both the TV Academy (ATAS), who presides over the Primetime Emmys, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), who preside over the Daytime Emmys, are in exploratory reunification discussions to merge the two organizations into one.

Both sides received an overwhelming vote and support from their boards to evaluate what a unified Academy could look like. However there is no formal calendar at this juncture for the discussions. In addition, because of the ongoing unification talks that should occur, the TV Academy board has voted to extend all current sitting Governors’ terms by one year so they can see the process through.

Boards at both organizations voted overwhelmingly to evaluate what a unified Academy could make possible: a strong vision for the Academy’s future, more effective thought leadership for the industry, broader service and support for members coast-to-coast, and new momentum and opportunities across the full complement of national Emmy competitions.

Photos: ATAS/NATAS

AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS, CAN THE EMMYS BE UNDER ONE BANNER?

In a joint statement, ATAS and NATAS shared, “Television remains the most powerful medium we have to shape culture and prompt conversations that define us—no matter the size of the screen, With the business of television undergoing such a monumental transformation, this is the right moment to explore a reunification of our Academies, providing our members and our industry with a bolder voice advocating for them and a stronger partner to navigate the future with them.”

If the reunification talks continue, this would be the first time since the two Emmy organizations split back on June 30, 1977 that they have tried to come together, all of this after almost three decades of often uneasy and strained tension between the two.

The most recent joint change came in 2022 when a move of the game show categories went from NATAS to ATAS’ and now are in the Primetime Emmys.

Deadline notes that a unification of the two television academies who overall preside over nighttime and daytime programming would be similar how SAG and AFTRA used to represent performers from completely different dayparts of work.

Could the Daytime Emmys finally see some love in primetime and have their major categories televised as part of the annual kudofest every September? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place live on Monday, September 14th starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT and air on NBC and stream on Peacock emanating from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. While, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Friday, October 30, time to be announced, live from the Hollywood Palladium and will be streamed on watchtheemmys.tv

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is a service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Awards for News & Documentary, Sports, Daytime and Children’s & Family programming, as well as achievements in television Technology & Engineering.

The Television Academy (ATAS) strives to shape and advance the dynamic television landscape; cultivate a diverse, inclusive and accessible professional community; and advocate for the television industry while capturing the spirit of a new generation of content creators and industry professionals. Through innovative programs, publications and events, the Academy and its Foundation foster and empower storytellers. The Academy also celebrates those who excel in the industry recognizing their achievements through awards and accolades, including the renowned Emmy Award. Membership in the Academy is open to working professionals in the television industry.

So, would you like to see the Primetime Emmy and the Daytime Emmys fold into one show if the two unions reached a unification arrangement? Do you hope that after almost 50 years, the two organizations can finally make some serious headway? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
