Ella Lentini Makes Her General Hospital Debut As Betty ‘The Nanny’: What Were Your First Impressions?

By Michael Fairman

Here’s the question! How does GH’s Ava Jerome (Maura West) always wind up with all these nasty young women attempting to destroy her life at Wyndemere?  While we most recently had Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) making Ava’s life more than miserable, now La Jerome finds herself with yet another major problem.

Enter, Betty Rutherford (Ella Lentini), the implanted nanny from Mason (Nathanyael Grey) and company to keep Ava and Sonny (Maurice Benard) in line, and on Monday’s July 24th episode of General Hospital, Ava meets Betty.

The young woman enters Wyndemere and meet Giles the new butler. At that point, once Giles exits, Ava looks over Betty’s resume. Betty says the butler is gone so basically let’s cut the crap. Betty states that she and Ava know this job is hers and there is nothing Ava can do about it.

Courtesy/ABC

Betty wants Ava to sell how good she is at being a nanny to Sonny, and if she fails, there will be major consequences. With that, Betty drops a hint to Ava about how long has it been since she has called her mother.  Betty suggests she give Delia a call to check on her.  Ava gets concerns so she calls her mother. While talking to Delia, she learns from her mother that she is going away for the weekend with a man she just met (Oh-oh!).  An upset Ava, knows that one of Mason’s goons is definitely keeping taps on Delia. She then tells Betty she will refuse to cooperate if they don’t back off of her mother.

It is then, Betty slaps Ava hard in the face reminding her who is calling the shots here. Just then, Sonny arrives on the scene, not understanding what he just walked in on.

So, what were your first impressions of Ella Lentini and the character of Betty Rutherford? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I was hoping Ava was going to make good use of the parapet ! But for now.. just glad Sonny had walked in.

I never thought I would see the day where Ava took a slap… maybe the other side of Esme will reappear and safe Ava in a moment of danger..

Betty vs Esme could be lots of fun.

Ava’a mother is always welcome

Hopefully by now Ava realizes that nobody ever dies falling off that parapet. She’s thrown several mortals overboard herself, so who should know better?

I suspect our new fake nanny won’t be around long though. I’m guessing she has a 13 week cycle and then she will be relocated down here to Hell. Sonny’s not going to allow anybody to threaten one of his kids.

She doesn’t look like a “Betty Rutherford” to me though. You can bet your soul that’s a fake name!

She sounds like she came from Leave It To Beaver or some other sit-com.

So she’s Lumpy Rutherford’s granddaughter?

I agree

Glad Ava told everything to Sonny. It’s time to end Mason and company. Too many story lines going on.

First impressions are that she is a much better actress than BOTH replacements GH hired for Molly, so I wish she was in that role instead of this character, who will likely not have a pleasant ending considering she’s going up against both Ava and Sonny.

If she does stick around, I’m willing to bet that somewhere down the line, Betty and Esme will end up being sisters. The resemblance is uncanny, their personalities are very similar, and it’s no coincidence that they’re both in Ava’s orbit.

I agree, Jimmy; I think she’s terrific. Maybe the recent recast disasters are coloring my opinion, but not by much. Hey, she more than held her own with Maura West in her first scene — THAT’S an accomplishment. I want to see more.

Is this the same Ava Jerome who thought nothing of offing Connie, blaming AJ and switching Morgan’s meds?

She should’ve crushed Mason like the cockroach that he is months ago.

Has the Ryan ordeal made her soft?

Exactly, she would have stomped her like a Grape. After all…She IS a Jerome!!!

OMG! I agree wholeheartedly. I miss the old Ava, she didn’t let anyone push her around. I want the old devious Ava back.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. She’s getting soft.

Remember They have her mom. I believe that otherwise Ava would’ve slapped her back.

I think this whole thing with her thinking she really killed Nicholas has done her in. She’s just waiting for it all to hit the fan and bite her in the butt, taking her away from her daughter. It’s like they also changed Austin in mid stream into a real jerk, I can’t figure him out, is he really against Mason or with him?

Last edited 2 years ago by Violet Lemm

You’re right, Violet. Reducing Ava to a frightened cat is a violation of her whole character. And I frankly think that the character of Austin Gatlin-Brothers or whatever he’s called has been a train wreck. If an actor as good as Roger Howarth can’t make him interesting, then it’s a writing issue.

Soaphound,
I’ve always been a big fan of Roger Howarth even as Franco but somewhere in mid-stream as Austin when Mason and Ava entered the scenes they changed him, so don’t know what’s going on.

I have been thinking the same thing.

Absolutely correct. When did she become this person? She’s never been weak, stupid, or slow. I really don’t like when they do this to a great character period.

Don’t like Betty, Love Ella.

I absolutely HATED Betty immediately! I wanted Ava to push her off the parapet, too. When I feel venom rising within me while watching fiction – especially my beloved General Hospital – I remind myself I’m watching a great actor performing great writing.

I am still furious with the @ABCDaytime fool who canceled All My Children & One Life to Live to replace with shows that were also canceled long ago. Big mistake! I’m retired & have time to watch ABC for four hours (including The View). Now i only watch two hours of their shows & advertising. Sorry for my off topic paragraph.

So you can tell Ella, who plays Betty, that she has done a great job of making viewers hate her right off the bat. Thank her for her great work.

I HATE HER! Hopefully she’ll only be around briefly and Sonny will save the day AGAIN !!

I’m with you on this one can’t wait for sonny to find out what’s happening

Ava should push her off the balcony of windamere

I believe she came on too hard and too quick and she spoiled her own chances because it was done in front of Sonny. Now Ava will admit the truth to Sonny he will be her Ally and they will take down Mason and whatever groups behind him

Over doing it waay too much. Ava has already met her match. No need for this one. Honestly people . Oh, I mean writers.

Ava would NEVER have just taken that slap! She would’ve belted her back even harder! Against character!

I don’t like her at all and why is Ava putting up with that? Why doesn’t she just tell Sonny the whole story. He’ll take care of it. He didn’t like Nicholas anyway.

I really don’t understand what is the point to this whole situation . Ava should really tell Sonny everything about what’s going on. But in a way this her fault because she still doesn’t know that Nicholas is still alive. That Mason has him ( Nicholas) somewhere . And Austin is also involved in all this . No wonder
Quartermines did not want anything to do with Austin.

I want Ava to turn into the bad seed and push the babysitter off the balcony

My first impression was that she could be really nice if she was really nice. She’s also make a better Molly than this older woman they’ve gotten.

Not impressed

Wow! Well, She came on strong from the gate, Like a boss! I hope that Sonny has his game face on for this dilemma.

Looks like Betty may not be long for this . Between Mason and Sonny… Can’t include Ava, cause she’s mia.

I couldn’t stand her. I hope Sonny takes care of her quickly!!!!

Betty is Ava’s worst nightmare from hell. Sonny you have to take the lead and take over this very minute. Please Sonny. Don’t let your beautiful sweet little girl anywhere near.this prianada. You have to come to Ava’s and most especially your beautiful little angel, Avery’s to her rescue and save Avery and Ava’s life. You must deal with Betty that witch and sheer demon.

Actually Ava’s worst nightmare from Hell would be if I sent ConKate & AJ up to visit her. I’ve thought about it, of course.

Of course I can’t send Morgan or Nikolas, as neither of them are actually dead, so they aren’t under my jurisdiction.

Thank goodness Sonny walked in at that very moment.

I want the old school Ava back

Horrible!!!

I think that new nanny is a b—h. She should be found dead sooner than later. Glad Sonny will have her taken care of. But who is Mason’s boss?

Mason’s boss is the black man that was found dead. The other or maybe I should say the big boss is that cold hearted devil and witch that runs that gambling ring she runs that Curtis knows and has Gladys under her thumb.

Mason has told us two things about his boss:

1) She’s a woman
2) She’s family

Now of course we knew Austin’s mother years ago. Her name was Charity Gatlin. I don’t believe we knew anything else about her family at the time, apart from the son she brought with her. This son had a father who was not Jimmy Lee Holt, and Alan treated the kid for something… my Fuzzy Devil Memory doesn’t really remember the details, but oddly enough Austin had never talked about his brother.

Anyway.. that’s not the point… more relevant here is that somebody who would name their daughter “Charity” might have another daughter named something like oh,,,, maybe “Faith”??

And where would long time GH viewers know the name “Faith” from?

Could Mason’s boss… and possibly his MOTHER…. be Faith (Gatlin) Roscoe??

Yes… Faith was in Hell… but it seems she might have escaped while our demon construction crew was doing some upgrades on the Gates of Hell. Yeah… it happens once in a while, unfortunately.

Faith Roscoe has also teamed up with Lorenzo Alcazar in the past. And it’s my theory that Alcazar is the man behind “Pikeman”, as this “mysterious” organization has the same agenda Alcazar always did – they want to smuggle weapons through Sonny’s territory. Alcazar is believed to be dead, but he never actually was. When Jason was sent to “get rid of him”, they left the ending very ambiguous. You saw a big roll of carpet being carried out of Alcazar’s house, but no blood or other things you might find at a crime scene. And then months later Spinelli was able to track Alcazar’s bank accounts being accessed from somewhere in South America. My theory is that Jason allowed Alcazar to leave Port Charles alive for the benefit of his “sister” Skye, who was married to Alcazar at the time, and their baby daughter Lila Rae. Jason told Alcazar he could live, as long as he agreed to never come back to Port Charles again.

Now that Jason himself is presumed “dead” (though we all know better) Alcazar might not feel so obligated to honor that promise. But of course he couldn’t just walk back into Port Charles and announce himself & his intentions openly. So he created “Pikeman” as a front. And he might very well have planted a mole in the Corinthos organization ahead of time, which I believe may be “Dex”.

Are Faith & Alcazar already working together, or is that going to be the eventual result of whatever information Skinhead Mason thinks the fake nanny will find in Sonny’s penthouse?

So essentially, you’re predicting two simultaneous returns from the dead of long gone monsters? That sounds a lot like something your beloved Ron would do, lol.

I’m fairly certain AGH mentioned his brother was on the spectrum around the time Leo was diagnosed. Now, that could’ve been another brother.

Well, as I said, there’s no proof that Alcazar was ever dead… but collusions of “super villains” isn’t just a ReRon thing. How many times did Helena & Faison collaborate with each other… and each of them with other villains for that matter?

I do remember Austin talking about his brother being on the spectrum…or at least hinting at something like that. But I still don’t remember what Alan treated him for, back in the day.

So pointless to have her!!

I think she could be related to Brenda because Brenda and Betty look alike

Yes Susan, that’s what I thought the moment I saw Betty, that resembles Brenda. When she slapped Ava I wanted to jump through the screen and wreck her. Ava is one of the slim reasons I even watch this show. She’s my very favorite character. I too want my old Ava back. .

I too thought she looked like Brenda & that’s why Mason or whoever is in charge got her as the nanny.
Maybe she’s too young for a romance with Sonny?

I thought she was pushy

Already not a fan. After slapping Ava, that’s a non-starter for me. She already needs to go. Bring back Pilar.

Well said! The story line is ridiculous!

I totally agree. It’s stupid. And I probably will stop watching. I do that every now and then thank you very much.

Ava needs to come back cause the old Ava would have slapped her back

She’s obviously really good at playing a snotty, lil, bitch, lol. Cute looking; I think she reminds me of Vanessa Marcil when she was younger; not sure. Can’t quite place it… It’s a shame they cast her for such a short role; I assume Sonny will get rid of her soon enough. Good actress.

Great actress!

Ugh

Hope Sonny kills her off quick don’t like her mason or Austin!!!

I suspect fake nanny is only around for a 13 week cycle. After that, she’s likely to be a dragon stable attendant here in Hell.

Yes

Too aggressive, didn’t like her. My Ava would have smack her back!

Betty the nanny is terrible. I would not want her for my nanny. She is evil
SONNY COULD tell she was a fraud⁰. Throw her out with Sasha motherland and Esme

I really didn’t care for her character, I suspect they’ll kill her off… Hopefully

Eva you better mop the floor with her, nobody slap you girl, and get away with it! Show me what you got Eva.

She’s to sneaky.

I Don’t like these stories on gh right now, don’t care about these stories bring back Monica give her a storyline. She’s headed to Quartermaine now, not right, she just disappears, and nobody talks about it Scotty and Liesel where are they bring them and give them a story don’t care about all these new actors coming on

She should have been cast as Molly.

Hated her right from the start. The real Ava wouldn’t let someone slap her across the face and talk down to her. Ava isn’t afraid of anyone. Don’t ruin her character.⁸

It would be something if Austin was the main man in the organization and Mason didn’t even know due to the fact that Austin disguised his voice
Perhaps Austin is the one that wants Sonny’s territory and shipments….

Didn’t even read this story. She is Mason class and therefore irredeemable. I can’t wait for her life to be if not forfeit, at least righteously punished by the hopefully returning Godfather of Pt. Charles along with ALL those who are associated with her

Don’t like Betty. Come up with better story without her.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

on

By

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

Photo: ABC

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
