Executive Producer Frank Valentini Talks Returns, Exits, And Previews The Drama This Fall On General Hospital

Surprise returns, a wedding, a heartbreaking social issue storyline, romance, and heavy drama are all ahead this fall on General Hospital.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini sat down with Michael Fairman TV during the ABC TCA 2018 Summer Press Tour All-Star Reception to answer our rapid fire questions throughout the bustle of the industry event.

Valentini previewed what’s ahead in and around Port Charles for several characters and duos as the summer comes to a close, and a new season marks new beginnings.  He also addressed the recent cast exits that have seen fan favorites departing the ABC daytime drama series.

Now, as viewers will witness this week, there is some major distress ahead for several key characters that will play out over the next few months.

Here’s what the showrunner had to say about some hot topics that fans have been buzzing about, and more below.

Genie Francis (Laura) is coming back to the show, after all the uproar and demand for her to return.   You said there will be major story for her when she is back.  Is that true?

Photo: ABC

FRANK:  Yes, and we are very excited that she is coming back.  And yes, we have actually two big stories for Genie, and there is a little bit of overlap in them. When she comes back she jumps right into the big story, and the audience will know what the story is when they see her return.

Chloe Lanier (Chloe) just wrapped up an incredible run on the show.  How do you feel about her departure from GH?  Did you know she was only planning on staying for a few years?

FRANK:  We all knew that it was for a limited time. Nelle has sort of wreaked havoc on anyone she possibly could, and left in a big way and helped kick-off another big story with some other fan favorites including: Michael (Chad), Lucas (Ryan Carnes) and Brad (Parry Shen), and Bobbie (Jackie Zeman) and Carly (Laura Wright), and the Corinthos family.  So, that’s another fun thing to look forward to.  Chloe is just a tremendous young actress.  We all remember her from the 52nd anniversary episode, which was the Luke (Tony Geary) episode, which revealed the origin story. Chloe just really stood out to us, and we brought her back.  Everyone loved working with her and she is a great friend.

Did you have any trepidation about doing another baby switch storyline?

FRANK:  Never, never!   This one has a twist on a double twist.  It’s a triple-axel! It will be gut-wrenching, for sure.

Then, Dominic Zamprogna (Ex-Dante) left GH.  How do you feel about him deciding to leave the show?

FRANK:  I love Dominic.  In fact, we just had dinner together a few weeks ago.  He is a great actor, but he wanted to try some other stuff.   We wish him all the best.  And you never know … the door is always open.

Fans on social media have been commenting how the Drew/Sam/Jason triangle featuring: Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco ,and Steve Burton had started, and then was just kind of dropped and has not been playing out on-air.  Have you made the decision to not play that triangle?

FRANK:  No, we are definitely playing it.  There are many iterations:  Drew and Sam are connected through their children, and their love, and the history that they have.  And as well, Jason and Drew being brothers, and that Jason and Sam have their own history, as well.  There’s way more to come!

Fans have commented, “What happened to this story?”

FRANK:   It’s a big show with a big cast.  Everyone takes a turn stepping forward, and then stepping back.

Courtesy/ABC

You brought on Elizabeth Hendrickson (Margaux) as a potential love interest for Drew?

FRANK:  Yes, and I knew her work from All My Children and The Young and the Restless, and she is a phenomenal actress and we are really lucky to have her.  Margaux has got the flash drive with Drew’s memories on it and that is an important piece of information to have.

Peter August aka Henrik Faison (Wes Ramsey) is still on the canvas.  Is your plan to have Peter create more havoc in Port Charles?

FRANK:  Wes Ramsey is a phenomenal actor.  I think he did a phenomenal job when Peter was kidnapped and tied-up.  It’s not easy to be in scenes where you are tied-up for almost four weeks, and to act, and to stay present in the stage of being a hostage.  I just though he knocked it out of the park  He is Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) brother, he is Anna’s (Finola Hughes) son and with whatever is going to happen with Maxie, they are connected.  He is Maxie’s brother-in-law and baby James’ uncle.  There is a lot of story there.

Finola Hughes is back after taking some time-off.  Now, Anna and Finn’s (Michael Easton) relationship will be further explored as they now fight a common enemy.  What can you share about this duo?

FRANK:  Finola had a mini-vacation. She is incredibly hard-working, and we try to make sure actors’ have enough time in their personal life to have fun, and go on vacations, and be with their family. This was something we were able to work out story-wise.  But also, Hamilton will be involved with his family and there is some story there and also as you see, when Finola came back we launched into a big story with them.  There is so much to explore in their relationship. For Anna, she has only had two great loves in her life, Duke (Ian Buchanan) and Robert (Tristan Rogers).  So for her to open up her heart to someone else is a big deal, and we will explore that as well, and what that means.

Michelle Stafford (Nina) has been delivering in scene after scene as the grieving sister, following the death of her brother, detective Nathan West.  What is in store for her Nina and her relationship, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)?

FRANK:  Valentin and Nina are separated right now, and that is never going to sit well with Valentin.  He is going to do everything in his power to try and win her back.  That will not only be fun to watch, but it will be interesting and full of twists, as well.

Courtesy/ABC

Chase (Josh Swickard) and Maxie seems like they could make for an interesting pairing. Will you explore that at this point?

FRANK:  There is a lot of potential with Maxie, but I don’t think Maxie is ready to be in a relationship.  She has tons of story with Lulu (Emme Rylan), and as well with her parents, and there will be lots of other fun things going on with her, but I don’t see a romance right now being front and center in her life.

Daytime Emmy winner, Lexi Ainsworth (Krstina) is coming back to GH.  Fans had been calling for her return.  Why the decision now to bring her on to the canvas?

FRANK:  We love Lexi!  Her parents are two of the most important people on the show, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).  It just seemed like a no-brainer, and she was available. We have a really fun story for her, as well.

So, there is no Parker (Ashley Jones) in Kristina’s life, right now?

FRANK:  We will see as we go along, and we will uncover the truth about that relationship, as well.

You brought one of the finest actresses in Tamara Braun back to GH.   Do you plan on utilizing her more … and will Kim be driving story?

FRANK:  Kim is going to have a very big story this fall.

What can you share on the future of Julian (William deVry) and Alexis?

FRANK:  They will be part of the Kim story as well, and their own story.  Alexis is going to be involved in different stories that will culminate in a story of her own, as well

Patricia Bethune was great as Nurse Mary Pat as Carly’s nemesis at Ferncliff.   She is an amazing character actress.  Did you plan on keeping her around as long as you have?

FRANK:  She is just a great actress and we really lucked out.  She played the balance of very deadly serious and dangerous, and also with a sardonic and sarcastic sort of comedic bent to it.

Let’s talk Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and Franco (Roger Howarth).  Is there a wedding? And if so, will it go off without a hitch?

FRANK:   There is a wedding coming in the fall.  And how could a wedding between Liz and Franco be anything but explosive and hilarious?  How funny was Roger Howarth in the remote scenes where they save Carly at Ferncliff, and he is sitting in the car and he says, “You knocked over my art supplies.”  I mean, that is pretty great stuff.

You recently had OLTL fan favorite Patrick J. Gibbons (Ex-Sam Manning) on GH, in role of Wyatt … the scout who tripped upon Peter being held hostage in the cabin.   How was it working with him again after your time together in Llanview?

FRANK:  Patrick and his family are very good friends of mine, who I have always had a connection with. When the writers came up with the part of Wyatt, I thought Patrick would be perfect for it.  He was wonderful.   Patrick has the right amount of innocence. He has grown so much as an actor, and he is still only 11.  I thought he was phenomenal. He played the wonder and the dedication to the scouts and trying to figure it out in fear of Obrecht (Kathleen Gati).   I thought he did such a nice job,   He is a lovely kid.  I was so happy to reconnect with him.

You have recast Vinessa Antoine’s role of Jordan Ashford with Briana Nicole Henry. Vinessa has gone on to be the series lead in the upcoming Canadian TV drama, Diggstown.  Isn’t it always hard to recast a role?

FRANK:  It’s always hard to recast and we never take it lightly.  We always want to make sure we bring in somebody good.  Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Jordan are in a position in their story where it’s important to keep them on the canvas, and write –off the character of Jordan for a frivolous reason. We would not want to do that to the audience.

The Alzheimer’s storyline is one of the important social and medical issues of our time to shed a light on.  Through Max Gail’s (Mike) performances, it has resonated so much to the audience.  Do you plan on continuing taking the viewers through the most difficult and tragic moments in the journey of someone who cannot escape this illness, and the toll it takes on its loved ones?

FRANK:  I think that Max Gail, like Vernee Watson (Stella), took us by surprise at how amazing they are. The Alzheimer’s story is very near and dear to all of our hearts.  We want to tell it in a way that is very realistic, but to also emphasis the hope and the family connection, and the love that is that family. Sometimes in the face of tragedy, it brings out the best in human beings.  There is something very uplifting about that, even though we are telling a very sad story.  Mike realizes that this family loves him, even though he has made mistakes. There is a tremendous amount of forgiveness and a tremendous amount of empathy and sympathy, and reconciliation in moving forward.  I think the relationship between Max and Sonny is played beautifully by Max and Maurice Benard.

What is ahead for Ava Jerome (Maura West), now that the secret is out that the man she thought she could trust and who loved her, Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) slept with her daughter, Kiki (Hayley Erin)?

FRANK:  Ava explodes over the next couple of weeks and has a major, major story. Maura West has never been better!

What is ahead now for Carly?  She holds the clue that there has been a switcheroo at Ferncliff involving her “therapist” Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom).  Will she be the one to figure it out?

FRANK:  Carly will definitely be dealing with the repercussions from Ferncliff, and also some family situations, and also something big coming up with Sonny. She will also be helping Michael through his difficult time, because she is a good mother.

So, what story are you looking forward to seeing play out?  Are you excited for the return of Genie Francis? What did you think about the EP’s thoughts on the departures, the returns, and the plans for the characters in Port Charles this fall? Comment below.

Franco & Elizabeth deserve a huge romantic wedding not an explosive one. I wish you had pushed Frank on the tease GH gave us about Elizabeth’s parents. We’ve been waiting 21 years. Also wish you’d have asked about Elizabeth’s trans friend Terry.

Sher
Sher

Agree

dmr
dmr

I like Franco, but many viewers do not. I like Roger because he brings such comedic value to scenes (much like Kin Shriner). I just wish that Roger was brought back as a different character. Oh well. Terry is another example of Frank’s “big cast” and of a “drop and dash” of characters and storylines. What a joke.

Soaphound
Soaphound

I like Franco, too, dmr. Roger Howarth may not be traditionally handsome but he’s sexy as all get-out and funny as well.

dmr
dmr

Very funny, and I’ve always liked Roger. I’m not too keen on Liz and Franco. I find Elizabeth to be very boring. I know that she has a strong fan base, and it’s nothing against the actress. Although, I think it’s sweet how much Franco adores her. I think that part is played out well on-screen.

Jules
Jules

She’s had no story outside of propping up the Franco storyline. Liz of late 90’s and 2000’s was 1000x more interesting than what has happened to her character over the last few years with ties to the Spencer’s, Jason, Sonny, Quartermaine, Cassadines, Robin, Patrick, etc. They’ve decimated her character over the last few years.

Timmm
Timmm

Seems Terry was a stunt casting by Frank!

Frank: It’s a big show with a big cast.
DMR: TRIM THE FAT! (WES RAMSEY)
Frank: Wes Ramsey is a phenomenal actor.
DMR: He must not read the comments on social media. This character is one of the most hated in daytime.

No he isn’t. Get rid of Jason

I really like Wes and I’ve never hated his character. Always understood him and felt bad for him.

Rhonda
Rhonda

Maybe Wes is hated by you. I think he is a great actor and can see the direction his story could go.
I have watched my whole life and personally get tired of all the complaints and the bullying of the actors. Some seem to not be able to seperate the show from reality
I can see expressing your opinion however constructively however, some act like their opinion is the only one who matters.

Fanny

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,DMR
Wes isn’t an asset to the show…

dmr…Just in case Frank reads comments, I want him to know
Wes/Peter has my vote. I don’t know why there is this animosity towards him, but I’m for him as an actor and character.

Timmm
Timmm

Rose, people dont like him because he is Laura Wright’s boyfriend and a lot of fans hate Carly! I dont like Peter because I cannot see him as Anna and Faison’s son and I dont like that twist. Nothing against Wes.

Erin
Erin

I too do not like him being Anna’s son and the actor is over-dramatic.

Dmr
Dmr

Agree, Erin!

rose

Timmm…The Carly thing makes sense. And since she is out of Ferncliff I don’t see her as new and improved. Same old, same old. Such as when Monica apologized to her the other day, all Carly could say was she accepted the apology, not that she had things to apologize for a well.
As fpr Wes/Peter being Anna’s son…it is a bit of a stretch. He could still be a Cassadine, but would have preferred Griffin as her long, lost son.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Oh, Rose! I couldn’t agree with you more!!! When Monica apologized to Carly I was like, “Are you KIDDING MEEEEEEE?????!!!!!” Monica apologize to the woman who tortured her son, took her grandson away from him and the family, drugged him, threatened him, covered up his murder, STILL insults him to Monica’s face…and the writers had Monica apologize to Carly???!!! And the self-righteous witch thinks she’s being magnanimous by accepting???

I never knew fictional characters could inspire such wrath in me. LOL. I had to put it on pause and pace just to calm down! hahaha…

rebecca1
rebecca1

Where I disagree though with the response you were given is it’s not true: a lot of fans don’ t “hate” Carly. You would assume they do; (funny how many of us regulars here are on agreement about her) but in the FB/Twitter verse they love her! As I mentioned on other posts she has more followers that most of the other actresses and the fans are rabid defending her. They stopped watching (or threatened to) when Nelle got the best of her.

So, I don’t think it’s Carly hate that Peter detractors are swayed by; I think they just don’t like the character. Or his relationship to Anna. Or that they think he was instrumental in Nathan’s death. Etc, etc.

I’m with you. I love him and the actor (well, as much as you can be a fan of someone you don’t know.)

Fanny
Fanny

Agree Timmm… He brings nothing to the show… His characters personality
is sterile… Ridiculous that he was chosen to be Anna’s son!!! Should have been Griffin, they can still change it around by saying they were switched at birth… Valentin can take the fall.

nancy dillingham
nancy dillingham

Yes, should have been Griffin–and “they” led us to believe that in the beginning.

Shay
Shay

Absolutely, Fanny! Griffin was the epitome of what Anna’s son should have been….dreamy and decent….until Ava got her cougar hooks into him, that is!!!!

nancy dillingham
nancy dillingham

Let’s just agree that Anna and Faison is laughable.

Soaphound
Soaphound

Maybe you’re right, Timmm. He was perfectly fine on GL years back. This character just doesn’t suit him.

Shay
Shay

That, too, Timmm…But the character is also not accepted by many viewers because he is not likable in the least—-he engenders no sympathy or goodwill and, as thus, his status as Anna’s son is simply unthinkable for those of us who love “The Divine Devane!”.

Violet Lemm
Violet Lemm

I also like Wes and look forward to seeing his on going story evolve. As Frank said, he is related to all these other characters. Why people criticize his acting abilities is beyond me. It’s not his fault that he’s Laura Wright’s boyfriend. If they make each other happy in real life, good for them!

rebecca1
rebecca1

I agree, rose. Wes has my vote, too. I look forward to his scenes. Great back story; many connections on the canvas and an emotional journey. I’d be beyond disappointed if it was a short run.

As for the animosity, it’s unwarranted and mean. But what’s new…

He leaves me cold, also.

Fanny

Timmm

I agree, him and Summer on Y&R.

Fanny

Timmm, agree w/ U on both characters… Summer is
acting like a vapid little brat… she cares nothing for Billy, which means she’s out to hurt her mother… Why?

Soaphound
Soaphound

Oh Fanny, don’t get me started on that whining little demon known as Summer! She’s not even a “fun” villainess like Hillary on Y&R or Joan Collins’ Alexis on “Dynasty” years ago. She’s evil and doesn’t seem to have a conscience. Isn’t that what they used to accuse Adam Newman of..being a sociopath?

Wes is my favorite new addition to GH (after Max who is wonderful as well). His acting is amazing. He may be hated on the show simply because of the character he plays.

Maura is brilliant!!!

dmr…Now here’s where I agree with you. I don’t mind a little bit of redemption on Ava’s part, but I like it when she shakes things up,,,especially with holier than thou Sonny and Carly regarding the custody of Avery.

I love Maura since atwt when she was in the courtroom you could really see her nostrils flaring but I think ava needs to answer for all her wrongs an not be a dam hipoctite

Fanny

Agree Michelle… What’s good for the

rebecca1

The biggest hypocrite on GH is Carly. Ava is a student compared to the master.

Griffin
Griffin

Ava is no where near being the hypocrite that Carly, Sonny, Jason, Kiki, Griffin and slew of others are on this show. Lets me honest she is not alone in the hypocrisy department. As to answering for her wrongs, who on GH answers for theirs?

Fanny
Fanny

Problem lies w/ TOOOOOOO MUCH CARLY & SONNY… There is no balance… No wonder some people chose to leave the show.

rebecca1
rebecca1

I couldn’t agree more, Fanny. I just can’t stand them. Carly in particular. There are no words how much this character grates on my nerves. If I have to hear that giggle one more time; ugh. I’d take Ava over Carly any day.

Fanny
Fanny

Rebecca, any day of the week indeed.
Was it truly necessary for Carly to be so RUDE to Elizabeth??? When told Joss may need some attention.”Great Mother” my …LOL

rebecca1

I think it was necessary, Fanny! Carly’s very life depends on her being nasty and self-righteous. If that part of her died who would she be? Ugh. )

Yes it was time for the Ava we know and love to return. A little redemption is fine but she is more exciting when she is being a bada**.

nancy dillingham

Don’t know any reason–at least, the work she did on GH was overplayed and melodramatic–no restraint and no finesse.

Carol Kelly
Carol Kelly

Yes she is. I am really looking forward to her new story line. She really livened up this story line with her Griff and Kiki. I am sure she will do wonders with her new one

CDEE

HATE the idea of switching Kevin with his Brother.. this is a real turn off for me.. I have been watching for over 40 years..Sure hope THAT does not happen. Poor Laura if it does. I love her. <3 my GH and miss my OLTL family also.

rose
rose

CDEE…If there is a switching of brothers maybe it will take the instinct of Laura to see it.

Shay
Shay

Exactly, Rose! That is what I have opined the past regarding the need for Laura’s return! She will see through Ryan’s charade, just as she would have sussed out Fluke’s nonsense had she been present for that tawdry tale.

Phil
Phil

I have mixed feelings here. I find it kind of humorous that he says “it’s a big cast and people step forward and step back!” Much as I enjoy Sonny and Carly I cannot remember a time where they weren’t featured in a big storyline. Even I as a fan find it to be overkill! Not to mention all these “big stories” they have planned for virtually everyone else on the show? I don’t know I’m skeptical there! As for the couple front… please no Nina and Valentine! They need to move on to other people! Love Kim, but not with Julian! Julian and Alexis need to reunite! Still not sure why they brought Margeaux on! No offense to the actress, but Frank nearly saidit himself the cast is bloated. There is nothing about the #metoo storyline, which bothers me because the show had a chance to do something good with this storyline, but sadly it looks like it will become a storyline of cheating instead. In addition pushing Kiki and Griffin together when Kiki and Michael should be revisited! While we are on storylines taking a different turn or being dropped, what happened to the patient next door to Carly. It’s not all bad though! Laura returning is exciting and so is Kistina’s return. Excited about the Kevin storyline AND of course the Liz and Franco wedding is good news to me!

Michael (not Fairman)
Michael (not Fairman)

I had the exact same thought, Phil: “Um, Frank, you meant to say, ‘It’s a big cast and SOME people step forward and step back.’ ” There have been periods when the show did a better job of balancing them against other characters and other stories, but Sonny, Carly, and Jason have never been anything other than front and center at any point I can think of. And to be fair, the only time Luke was not front and center was when Tony Geary was on one of his extended vacations, so he’s another one to whom that “rule” never seemed to apply.

I think the truth is that the current head writers struggle with balance. It’s probably not an easy thing to achieve, especially with all the different people they report to and all the different things they’re expected to accomplish.

Steve
Steve

Actually, when Ron was writing the show, Sonny wasn’t always driving story. He played second fiddle in Connie’s DID but came to the forefront again once she was killed off.

Fanny
Fanny

Steve, I would love to have Ron C, writing for
GH again… He could resuscitate our show.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Hi Fanny; he should start by apologizing to Sean Kanan and resurrecting AJ again! You just don’t kill off a legacy character who was just brought back!

paula
paula

I feel that he uses former OLTL characters too much. He has GH vets that are hardly used like Lynn Herring, John J York. Why not being back Carly Schroeder on a regular basis. He needs to use GH vets more!!!

Kay
Kay

This interview just shows how totally out of touch Frank is with his viewers. The show revolves on what he wants for his pets. No one is clamoring for more story for Peter, Kim, Ava, etc. viewers want story for the vets they know and love. Lulu sat in the courtroom with only a line or two for three days. She deserves a good story. Alexis and Genie need good stories of their own not merely being used in someone else’s story. The Drew/Sam/Jason triangle is a figment of his imagination not on our screens. Wake up Frank before, you bury yet another soap!

Fanny
Fanny

Completely out of touch!!!

dmr
dmr

Thank you, Kay! Agreed about Peter and Kim! What triangle? & so many storylines are appearing off-screen.

Jules
Jules

Agreed. The cast is huge and full of too many OLTL vets. I’d trade Franco, Valentin, Cassandra, Peter, Kiki, Chase for Tyler Christopher’s Nikolas Cassadine and Jason Thompson’s Patrick Drake any day.

Soaphound
Soaphound

I agree, Kay. Whatever interest the Drew/Jasam story had has long passed. Drew is flourishing without that mumbling albatross around his neck, and Jason has reverted back to a Corinthos-programmed thug. I’d like Alexis back as a strong, non co-dependent woman, and a decent story for wonderful Chase. Lulu? Sorry, but I don’t see a Pulitzer in her future.

Fanny
Fanny

Soaphound,
Said the same about Alexis When she was in court, she was in her element. Nancy was GREAT!

rebecca1
rebecca1

Soaphound; Alexis has been back as a “strong, non co-dependent woman” for a while now. I’d actually like to see her in a relationship. It took forever to give her one and they screwed it up. Give her a good, healthy relationship already! Great looking, brilliant, funny, accomplished; they need to bring in some men that are less criminal and more on par with her. Finn would have been great if they didn’t revisit him with Anna.

Soaphound
Soaphound

I dont think she’s there yet, rebecca1. I still see the potential for a Julian relapse. Why the heck did they ruin this twosome with that knife at the throat scene? Just lazy writing or a plan to ditch the Julian character? They still have the “it” factor that many long-running supercouples do not!

rebecca1
rebecca1

I would be all for an Alexis/Julian reunion. I’ve always liked Julian and never believed he would have killed Alexis. The writers must have been insane to take a wildly popular couple and then do a 180 and turn him into some maniacal knife-wielding loon. The one good thing that came out of it was the great opportunity it afforded Nancy and William to display their fine acting chops; both were at the top of their game in that story. But I do believe Julian was coerced by Olivia, WAS trying to save his family by going along with her plan and believe that somehow he would have “staged” Alexis’s death had Sonny not intervened. The power of the imagination; what WOULD have happened is open to interpretation so that’s where I’ve gone.

The dilemma lies in the fact that he’d have to be totally mob-free and I’m not sure that’s possible now. He’s been nothing but an upright citizen since he was released but now that Sonny is provoking him he needs to defend himself/retaliate, which will put a crimp in his relationship with Kim and any future with Alexis. Interested to see how it falls out.

As for Alexis? I wouldn’t see her as weak or dependent if she went back to him. I’d be singing a different tune if we were talking about real life but in Port Charles? Alexis hit rock bottom, lost everything, came back on top of her game and has proven to herself and everyone else that she always rises to the top in the end. And, since she, too, believes Julian it’s not like she’d be going back (in her mind) to an abusive man. The writers attempted to exonerate Julian in her mind and in the viewers. I know not every viewer accepts it but I would/do.

Sara
Sara

I really wish Julexis could get a reunion story. Its unfortunate that this reads as more of the same for them

Renee
Renee

Same here! I’ve been waiting for Julexis to have a good rebuild story which leads to them reuniting. So tired of the stalls and alternate pairing!

dmr
dmr

It’s definitely a slow-build/burn. & throwing boring Kim into the mix makes it unbearable! But, seeing Alexis and Julian attempt to be friends is realistic, I suppose? I like them, too.

Lynne Bookstaber

Oh, Max Gail !! What a fantastic story line presented by the surprise acting by Mr. Gail.Having cared for a loved one with dementia,he is on the money with his portrayal. Thank you,Lynne Bookstaber

I’d like to know when exactly do the actors switch it up? All we see is Sonny, Jason and Carly constantly. I mean Robert needing Jason was ridiculous.

elm1951

evidently putting jason with robert was the only place tptb could put jason which proves there was no reason to bring back that character in my opinion

They are ruining Anna and to have Robert with Jason was bull….!

Timmm, They are ruining Anna’s character.

dmr
dmr

Yup. Just like when the Mob solves the criminal cases or kills the “bad guys” because the PCPD is too inept, or Jordan is apologizing or thanking Sonny. This type of writing is what turns-off a lot of viewers. When has Anna or Robert ever needed help in their field (besides, from each other or Frisco)?

FRANKLY THE ONLY THING I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IS THE NEW JORDAN. I HOPE SHE IS A MUCH STRONGER AND DECISIVE COMMISH THAN THE LAST ONE. I LIKE VINESSA AND WISH HER THE VERY BEST….BUT SHE JUST DIDN’T CUT IT FOR ME IN THE ROLE OF COMMISSIONER. AS FAR AS FRANK VALENTINI IS CONCERNED MAYBE HE SHOULD POST HIS EMAIL ADDRESS AND LET THE FANS TELL HIM DIRECTLY WHAT THEY THINK OF HIS COMMENTS. THE MAJORITY OF THE FANS ARE SICK AND TIRED OF BABY SWITCHING STORY LINES AND THE CURRENT ONE IS NO EXCEPTION. IF IT IS GOING TO GO ON FOR MONTHS THEN I WILL TUNE IN TO SOME OTHER PROGRAM. HE ALSO OVERUSES THE TERM PHENOMONAL. NOT ALL OF THE ACTORS ON THE SHOW HE DESCRIBED USING THIS TERM IS NOT ACCURATE IN MY OPINION. THIS IS ALSO BECOMING ONE LIFE TO LIFE 2.0 INSTEAD OF GENERAL HOSPITAL. TIME TO STOP WITH SO MANY OF THAT SHOW’S FORMER ACTORS. ALL IN ALL DO NOT PERONALLY CARE FOR MR. VALENTINI……THINK SHE SHOW HAS GONE DOWNHILL IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS BECAUSE OF HIM. I REMEMBER A TIME WHEN HE STATED DURING AN INTERVIEW THAT WE WOULD SEE STORYLINES WRAPPING UP MUCH SOONER AND NOT LASTING SO LONG………….GUESS HIS DEFINITION OF LONG/SHORT IS DIFFERENT FROM MINE.

Its not the actress fault its the writers there the ones writing this dialogue for Jordan, the actress is acting her ass off with what is giving to her.

Can we get a strong investment storyline for The African American characters, because right now why do frank have black characters if he doesnt want to write for them. Bring back Andre and Valerie they were string actors, give them just much story and airtine as you give Boring ass Sonny, Carly, Jason, and Jason girl. I think GH is racists! Give Curtis, Jordan, Tj, Stella, Valerie a story please. Please get Shawn out of jail and bscknon the canvas recast him is blakeman can’t. And on Gods earth bring back Tj and Molly story please, we want to see them.

Timmm

Watch Y&R.

rebecca1
rebecca1

They got rid of a lot of established and beloved characters to add African American characters. There was no need for Jordan to be police commissioner when we had Mac. Not only was Mac fired from being the commish but basically fired from the show. Anna took over briefly and voila! Jordan pops up out of nowhere.

Diversity is fine. Not at the expense of established actors/characters who are loved. New people can make a fine addition; shouldn’t be replacements.

Kat lee

So basically you brought Steve Burton back to drive up ratings, but have no real story for him. Every time you place Jason in a story , he never finishes it. Starting with the supposed triangle and then The Peter August “forgetaboutit” Fiasco. And now the wsb thing. I loved how Frank went on about Drew and Sam’s Children. Funny I thought one of them was Jason’s, you remember from the 12 year history of the supercouple. As opposed to the history Frank mentions specifically, you know the just about two year relationship Sam had with who she thought was Jason and then the six months whine fest you are calling a history of Drew and Sam. I would like to see Jason in a long term, thought out storyline. Jason is all over the place putting out fires or being used as a stop gap filler such as that scene between him and Robert the other day, what the heck was that. Frank we are not stupid and you will only keep the Jason and JaSam fans dangling for so long. You have alienated the Dream fans by dangling JaSam in front of this much larger fan base, if we walk away (CIN is on the horizon) ? But maybe that’s what you want. Personal feelings or situations between actors or show runners good or bad should not be interfering in the success or failure of this historic show. Please do something with Jason. He’s a filet mighnon character that shouldn’t be used filler. Soon!

Soaphound
Soaphound

Kat lee, your post made me laugh because you’ve probably given more thought to Sam’s kids than she has in the past 6 months. WHERE DO THEY GO when she’s traipsing around Switzerland and prowling the docks looking for Jason?

rebecca1
rebecca1

Jason has always been about saving Carly and Sonny. Even when he and Sam were together he was always leaving her and the kids to ride to their rescue or do their dirty work. How many times was he presumed dead? And yet, he comes back after being held captive for five years and spends every waking moment worrying about Carly; ready to leave the country with her if need be. His kids? Meh; they can wait another few months/years to see him.

Sam has supposedly grown. She was in a loving, stable relationship with Patrick and then with Drew. She was happy. The writers suddenly decided she wasn’t happy when Jason came back so that she could live the dangerous life with him again.

I think the writers would be fools to put Sam and Jason back together. If after all this time she would STILL be willing to play second best to Carly that’d basically make no sense. She’s older/wiser. He hasn’t evolved at all.

Caffey

I would love, LOVE for some of Franks “most important people on the show” to take a Vaca and let Laura Spencer Collins loose. She’s why I’m going to be watching. I like to EP Frank to quit spinning these horrible stories he trying to sell just in order to keep his favs Sonny, Carly, Jason and Sam on front and center not all of us care about the garbage of the MOB crew. I’d like to see a story with Elizabeth not with Franco being apart of it.

Soaphound
Soaphound

Oh Candy, I’m on Corinthos Overload, too. Naturally, this includes resident hit man Jason, bratty Joss (Oscar deserves better), tortured (but cute) Michael, and the DAILY mention of Morgan. Now the return of Christina, another Corinthos! What’s next, a major story for Avery?

Tracy
Tracy

Frank wouldn’t know the truth if it turned into a snake and bit him in the head! Frank is excited Genie is coming back – he fired her! And fans will know Laura’s story? We already know! It’s the twin memory mapping story! Frank knew Chloe was on for a limited time? Right. That’s why he invested so much in her character. And please, for Frank to act invested in Brad, Lucas and Bobbie is ridiculous because we never see them! Now, we’re seeing Brad and Lucas just so GH can break them up over the baby swapping! Frank loves Dom? Sure. That’s why fans never saw Dante! And Dom wanted to try other things? Dom wanted to WORK and GH wouldn’t let him! Really Frank? GH didn’t drop the Drew/Sam/Jason triangle? We never see Sam and Drew share scenes together. We never see love between them – we just saw them break up without ever seeing them fall apart! Now, we see GH nonstop pushing Jasam with no regard for their lack of chemistry or divided fan base! Frank brought Margaux on as a potential love interest for Drew so again, how is there a Drew/Sam/Jason triangle? Doesn’t matter. Frank knew Elizabeth Henrickson’s work and considers her phenomenal – anyone else see a pet in the making? And it’s a large cast so everyone takes turns? What a complete and utter crock! We see Sonny, Sam, Carly, Jason, Peter and Nelle (prior to her leaving) all the time! GH doesn’t leave room to use other characters! Wes Ramsey is a phenomenal actor because Frank thinks he played a good hostage? Yes! Let’s give everyone who can lay on a bed and whine an Oscar! Wes is an okay actor but not a great actor. Let’s be honest, Frank doesn’t care that Peter is connected to Anna, Maxie and Robin on GH – Frank cares that Wes is connected to Laura Wright who is one of his pets! (I was hoping Peter was Alex’s because Anna sleeping with Faison doesn’t fit GH history and because then GH could ditch Peter but it seems Frank isn’t going that direction which is a bummer) Anna is back which Frank treats an afterthought but Finn will be involved with his family – how many unwanted newbies are we getting for that family? Nina and Valentin are separated with no spoilers – I think this is Frank-speak for “we haven’t decided which strand of spaghetti to pick of the wall yet”. Frank doesn’t think Maxie is ready for a new romance? Since when? He’s been throwing Maxie and Peter together for months. And Maxie has stories with her parents and Lulu? Who is Frank kidding here? We never see Mac and Felicia! Kristina is back because her parents are two of GH’s most important characters – nice, Frank, way to welcome Lexi back! No Parker for Kristina so she must be back to argue with Alexis. Fun times. Kim is getting a big story… Read more »

JMER
JMER

I don’t see anything to get excited about at all. I hope that he’s telling the truth about Genie having “two big stories.” However, I have everyone reason to be skeptical about that statement. Even so, if it’s a huge story for her and that doesn’t change (just like her last big story was given to others), I won’t be able to watch the entire show because my favorites, the Lavery/Devane/Scorpios, and their stories have taken a supporting role on this show, and because of that, the characters and their motivations/desires/actions have been stunted, at best and mischaracterized at worst.

For example, not only is Duke dead but his only son was paired with Ava Jerome from the Lavery-Devanes’ nemesis family on the show, and now that they are finally (thank you!) broken up and enemies, all we have left is story for Ava and apparently no focus on Griffin once again. He was just around to give Ava more story. His story with Anna was even sacrificed while he was paired with Ava. Anna’s character has been gutted historically with the Peter backstory added ingloriously to hers, as many fans have complained about so I won’t go on about it, and Robert is so inept as a spy that he has to rely on Jason Morgan to come in and fix his work. Not that I’ve been watching all of this happening. I’ve been gone for a quite a while but am keeping an eye on the show in case there’s a miracle of sorts that lifts it out of the stuntedness it has been in for the longest time. As long as the Jeromes and Corinthoses continue to thrive single-mindedly on this show and there is no growth, self awareness, or consequences for them, the show will continue to sink into the abyss of ratings that it has been in ever since the early 90s or so. Good luck with all of that, Frank Valentini.

I don’t understand why any fan would still want Julexis. If I were one of those fans, I’d be content that Julian is still on the show and that he and Alexis get any scenes together. It’s true that MeToo is setting a new standard. Why else would they do this Kiki and Dr Bensch story suddenly as if to make up for all the Julexis domestic violence stuff. To think that they could get back together is not living in reality either in real life or on the show.

Mateo
Mateo

Here is my take on GH. The superfans want to relive the 80’s stories again. That is not going to happen. The 80’s are over – set them free. GH does have unnecessary cast members. I think they should definitely trim the fat. My biggest beef was bringing back Jason Morgan. There was no reason to do this. All his character ever does is mumble, stare into the camera to remind the viewers that his eyes are still blue. Big deal, we know they’re blue. So are half the men on this show. When action takes place it involves Jason pulling out a gun. BFD!! If there is no story, then let him go. He is not needed. I don’t see Kim Nero being necessary either. Her being with Julian is ridiculous because Julian loves Alexis, desires Alexis and wants Alexis. If she was a strong woman then she would dump the himbo and move on. Maybe she and Griffin would make a pair. I am glad Genie Francis is coming back. She will always be the representation of what GH should be about. The Alzheimer’s story has been top notch and realistic. Max Gail is phenomenal. As for the Corinthos clan? Look Sonny and Carly need to go on a four week vacation. Let them spend time with their families as Frank V says he wants his cast to do. I don’t mind them being onscreen all the time but they deserve a chance to ride in the background for awhile. Ava Jerome is worth watching every single time. I love her with loads of venom. It’s a strong suit for her. Her heart break over Griffin was felt by all the viewers. She does deserve a good man. But please keep her strong and vocal. I think that Frank Valentini suffers from the Jill Farren Phelps disease. Somehow they gave him too much power and now the studio is afraid to let him go. His dumbest decision ever was letting Ron Carlivati go. Right before Ron left he had some great actors come aboard with Billy Miller and Michelle Stafford. Frank has lost vision on how to use their talents. Bringing Elizabeth Hendrickson on was a light. Let’s hope some vision returns. The writers really did well with the Nelle storyline. I think the social relevance of the #metoo story with Kiki was handled well. There was not a lot of room to take this story in any other direction then what they did. The story with Brad and Lucas and the baby switch is great but the hard part is believing that they will be around for a long time. Bobbie is missing from the show I agree. I like her but every time she’s on it’s only to gossip about someone else. Let’s involve her in a real story. I truly love GH. I won’t knock the show because in the last 3 weeks they have told some good stories and done some great drama. Is… Read more »

Pretty disappointing answers from Frank. Every actor is going to have a MAJOR story. How will that happen when Sonny is on all the time?

Carly is the furthest thing from a good mother. RME!

And the Jason/Sam/Drew triangle is NOT playing out. It’s the worst triangle in soaps ever. No passion or chem on anyone’s part.

On the other hand

I like the addition of EH–she’s sparky
I also am glad they’ve broken up Ava & Griffin. We need Ava & Jason or Ava & Scotty.
Looking forward to the Friz wedding.

Thank you, Lucy D! Agree about Carly being a “good mother.” Cause, you know, every good mother marries a mob guy over and over again even after one kid is shot in the head and the other is blown up. And jailed. Raped.

Lucy D
Lucy D

Exactly Rebecca. The worst part is Carly thinks she’s a good mother & judges others (like she did with Liz Wed) who are far better parents than she is.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Agree again, Lucy D. Not sure if you like or dislike Ava but I like her so…for Carly to judge Ava and try to raise her daughter as her own galls me to no end. Ava and Kiki might have “rivalry” issues (to put it mildly) but at least Ava didn’t raise her in the midst of danger. Kiki didn’t even know about the “Jerome Family” until she came to Port Charles.

Lucy D
Lucy D

Oh I’m an Ava fan. I think they write her very badly at times. It made me crazy when they had Avery call Carly Mommy. It cemented my new-found dislike of the character. I’m a Carly-hater at the moment. I don’t like what they’ve done with her, really ever since Jax left.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Once again, Lucy, agree. When Avery called Carly mommy and I had to look at that smug smile on Carly’s face I was incensed. There are fans who LOVE Carly, think Ava’s “evil” and Carly should be Avery’s mother. And, (in their view) of course Avery thinks of her as her “mommy” because she’s been that to her.

Of course she’s been that to her! Sonny and Carly have deprived Ava of raising her own daughter! Drives me crazy!!! Honestly, I have never disliked a character as much as I do Carly. Detest.

Lucy D
Lucy D

I detest Carly & Sonny equally. Not that fond of Jason & Sam either. All are judgmental characters who think they’re so much better than those they’re judging, and actually they’re shallow, selfish & self-indulgent

Seriously…you’re absolutely right m. It’s awful. There’s no one to invest in – I just started watching again after 5 years ago. I would take 90’s or even mid-2000s GH any day over this crap. I keep waiting for it to get better – for a storyline to actually play out – I’d even go for JaSam at this point just to see if play all the way through and have her go back to drew and him preferably to Liz but at this point these characters will likely not have any growth or character development any time in the near future.

I’m been watching General Hispital since the 60’s and I have enjoyed it all these years. My only problem is that the story lines go on and on longer then needed. After a lengthy length of time I just sit back and find they have lost their impact. Ease off, put a bug in our ear for awhile and Then maybe come back with a different twist. I found the whole story line with Nell lagged on too long. My inquisitive mind stopped being inquisitive after a while and became bored like “What Now?” Just a few thoughts from a long, long, long, time Canadian viewer now in her twighlight years and still watching my favourite and only soap.

There is NO triangle btw Jason/Sam/Drew. Never was one. Since the Killy event in NYC in Feb. Kelly and Billy’s screen time together has been reduced to almost nothing. They do not share scenes anymore so how can there be a triangle? The liar wont admit this because he fears one fan base would be gone. But the thing is one fan base (Dream) are already gone. Okay; first let me get through hurling after reading “Carly is a good mother.” I guess a woman who chooses to bring her children up in a life of crime, unlike Alexis, Olivia, who made sure to keep Sonny away from their children is a “good mother.” A woman who went back and married the same man over and over again even after her kid was shot in the head and the other blown up. Okay.

Thank you, Michael, for this fantastic and eye-opening interview with Frank. Sure, there were topics that I feel like could’ve been pushed and touched upon a bit more, but the a lot of key points were touched upon.

I am excited about the return of Genie Francis. I felt put-off by the fact that Laura was in the midst of a new storyline, and it was dropped, due to the decision to drop Francis to recurring status. I’m also excited to see where the Peter storyline is going to head next. As for Chase and Maxie… I’d be OK with this pairing, but ultimately it would not be my choice. As for the Drew/Jason/Sam triangle, it bores me and is not what I’m wanting to see.

As for Frank, himself, he gets a lot of hate and I don’t like that. He’s hired to do a job and he’s done quite well with it, from my point of view. He’s one of the best executives currently in daytime!

What to look forward to? One, not ruining Mike’s story shoving Sonny’s past down our throats and dismissing Mike from the show for weeks! I know they will drag this out until November and probably into Christmas.

I like Drew and Margo. They chemistry. Major! Kim and Drew are cool to. Oscar need recasted. the kid is emotionless! Cam is doing a good job as a punk! You know he is going to screw over Franco somehow! Franco and Liz’s wedding. SNORE! Liz should be with Griffin and Franco should be with Ava.

Steve Burton should be disappointed for coming back only to be Sonny and Carly’s lap dog. Seeing Jason and Robert in scenes together made me cringe!

Can we put Robert on contract? Pay for Frisco to return as Police Commissioner? Recast Dylan and Tracy? How does ABC afford this?

Drain the swamp! Goodbye Lulu, Parking Lot Peter, Valentin, Finn, Olivia and Michael.

PS: If you have Genie Francis back, why not recast Lulu and Lucky. Build around her so she has a reason to stay this time!

Soaphound
Soaphound

I agree with everything, Timmm, except I like Oscar. And Michael just needs a LONNNNGGG vacation. Peter Puke just annoys me more everyday and Lulu in court with her little pad is truly hilarious! Drew and Margaux are as great as they were together as Billy and Chloe (hot). Jason’s return is a joke on him as well as on us and Finn needs to take a 10 year journey in search of Hayden…now!

rebecca1
rebecca1

I don’t see a need to recast Lulu. I like the actress. Love Oscar; I think he’s adorable and plays smart, innocent/naive, trusting very well. He’s a little sweetheart that I hope splits from Joss. She reminds me more and more of Carly and I can’t stand the one we already have. Making Joss a mini me is torture.

I like Finn, too. Just liked him better with Alexis. I’m just hoping they don’t bring Hayden back; completely bored me. There wasn’t one thing about her I liked and out of all the “newbies” I just didn’t like her in “Port Charles.”

Love Wes and hate the “parking lot Pete” moniker. (soaphound…”peter puke?” c’mon.) He’s a talented actor and quite the looker.

Shay

At least Brad is entertaining in his own right! I was looking forward to seeing him comically navigate the challenges of parenthood, but with the tragic twists of baby Wiley, I guess that won’t be happening now. And I’m feeling sort of cheated by that fact, since Brad is at his best in humorous situations!

Violet Lemm
Violet Lemm

dzzedee, you are right about these couples, especially Lucas and Brad. I think Lucas has tried to overlook some of Brad’s behavior in the past, but he still seems so blind or unaware to the jerk he essentially is. Maybe Brad had nothing to do with the baby switcheroo, but he should not have kept it secret. He should have called 911 when the other baby died. Who just puts a dead baby in a basket and takes off with it? Now he’s asking Julian to do something, which most likely will be illegal. This guy has no scruples, morals or feelings about keeping another man’s child.

Is anyone else as interested in what happened to Nelle after she was carted off kicking and screaming? She’s gone, got that, but it would have been nice to have some kind of closure as to where she was taken, like a prison or mental facility, such as Ferncliff, I’d hope. No mention of prosecution or whatever. I’d think the new D.A would be all over a case like that. What about the blanket? Will we ever find out about the trace DNA found on it, belonging to Nelle and Ava certainly. Too many loose ends for me.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Good point, Violet! Perhaps we’ll hear or see a scene of Nelle’s new surroundings. Perhaps she’ll be sharing accommodations with Madeline (it WOULD be ironic if Nelle turned out to be Nina’s daughter and wound up sharing a cell with “grandma!”)

Violet Lemm
Violet Lemm

Rebecca1 I guess I am one of the few that wasn’t all that sure that Kiki is Nina’s daughter. It’s looking like the others might be right, after today’s show with Madeline and Valentin. But, OMG ,would Kiki like having a women for a grandmother, who stole her from her mother, had her sold to Ava Jerome and also killed her father in cold blood. Poor Kiki! The other day Franco said to Ava that when she was pregnant, she told him he was the father. Now I am wondering if it was a real or fake pregnancy. I can’t wait to hear how Ava spins all that!

I’d like to know how he justifies getting rid of the characters Mac, Felicia, Lucy, Scorpio, Lucky, Nicolas, AJ, Dillon…though I must admit I’m enjoying the show the fact that as he just said, “it’s a big cast” is evidence that it wasn’t budget. They’ve hired new people and discarded many beloved characters and gotten rid of major families. Though the show has its wonderful moments, it’s not THE GH! that many of us loved. Doesn’t mean it had to become a relic and doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have introduced new characters, diverse characaters, etc. But he and then-Ron bascially cleaned house.

I wonder, Frank, if OLTL was still on the air would you have brought in new people to replace Vicki, Clint, Nora, Bo??? Gotten rid of the Buchanans? The Lords? Because you basically eliminated the Spencers and the Quartermaines.

Hi su…

First; we need to differentiate characters from actors.

“AJ” was a Quartermaine. He was originally thought dead years ago and brought back only to be killed off by Ron. Sean Kanan, whom most loved and were thrilled to learn he was reprising the role, didn’t want to leave. He was excited to be back but he and Ron had a falling out. Sean was “encouraged” to leave and Ron killed off the character. Really a lot of nerve; Ron had just started with the show and he killed off a major character.

Tyler Christoper didn’t want to leave either. Another dispute; rather than recast another major character they killed him off. (unless at some point he comes back and is found to be alive).

Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon) was completely blindsided when they got rid of him. He had no desire to leave and there was a petition to bring him back. Unfortunately it didn’t work.

“Nelle” was a great villain and Chloe a good actress and yes, she chose to leave. She’s not on my list. She’s not a vet.

Bryan Craig as Morgan chose to leave. Again, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t recast.

I’m not sure what’s happening with Kin Shriner (Scott). Yes; he implied he was given the boot but thankfully he’s still on. Not sure if that’s because they taped months in advance or the decision was reversed. He’s a great character.

Tristan Rogers is one of THE most important, beloved characters on GH and he did not choose to leave. They got rid of him then had him on very rarely with nothing to do. He defines the word “vet” as far as GH goes and he should be on contract.

My point was not that characters like “Nell” come and go, it’s that vets who play longstanding beloved characters who ARE GH like Scorpio, Mac, Felicia, Duke, AJ, Nicolas, Lucky, Lucy were all either killed off or just mysteriously gone form Port Charles. They have taken the main cast (the characters and families) and wiped them out bringing on Jordan, Aunt Stella, the D.A., Kim, Nina, Silas/Finn, Griffin, Curtis, etc, etc. Some of these characters and actors I love but they’ve destroyed the original GH in doing so. Aunt Stella instead of Scorpio or Mac? I like “Stella” more than I did at the beginning but there’s no comparison. Like, none.

The whole thing’s kinda sad; losing so many key characters and the main families that made up GH. t’s like having a puzzle with only a few of the pieces. The picture is never complete.

hi Rebecca,,
you said-
”First; we need to differentiate characters from actors. ”

I’ll need your input on that lol
I know the characters but as for the actors name, nope.
I know some of the actors names of curse, but that’s a small number.

thanks for pointing out how some have left, I didn’t know.

I’m just happy that Ava is rockin’ again!
And! I know her name; Mura West lol
She is more than awesome and I’m looking forward to having thee Ava in action, again.
((She needs to hook up with Franco and give me some action!

Hi, Su…

I agree; love Maura West/Ava! You’d be surprised how many people don’t like her; and her holding on to the blanket and not helping Carly? That just fueled their hatred. I LOVED that she held on to the blanket and am upset that she had Julian put it back. Neither she nor Julian owe anything to Carly or Sonny and I would hate to think either Julian and/or Ava get caught if some of their DNA is still on the blanket. But I digress…Yes! Love Ava! And while I agree that she and Franco would make a great couple IF Franco reverted to his criminal ways, I’m loving the stable, sweet, gentle guy with an edge and his relationship with Liz and her kids. But I do see why you’d like them together.

Haha; from now on when I reply to you about a character I’ll put the actor’s name next to it. 😉

I wish you’d stop bringing on every out of work soap actor and give our gh cast stories! My problem w Wes is why didn’t Dominic get a story! Same w Lexi I don’t think she’s all that great but I love Haley why not give Molly a story!? Let’s use the vast we have and for gods sake leave Parker gone it’s bad enough we ha e that shady da

One of the main reasons I watch is for Billy Miller. Please don’t leave Drew dangling in the wind because he may or may not return to Sam. This Drew/Sam/Jason triangle has been a bust. Whether GH likes it or not, they will have to pair one of these couples and maybe suffer the consequences of loosing or angering one of the fan bases, because this just can’t go on and on. If you do decide to pair Sam and Jason, then move Drew on. Don’t leave him in the shadows, waiting around. Can’t wait to see Drew getting the love he deserves from a loyal loving woman, who ever she is…..

KMB, I sure hope this loving woman , you are talking about, does not turn out to be Margaux, ha, ha. Sorry, but being of Italian decent, I can’t see a family with a last name of Moroni, according to Curtis’s report, giving their daughter that name. Margot maybe, but not this obvious French variation. Sorry to vent, but its the little things that drive you nuts.

GH has the best actors in daytime–Nina, Eva, Anna, Margaux, Drew, Bobbie, Franco. It’s like an Emmy Award ceremony!

Unfortunately, the writing sucks. Hogan Shefer (sp?) would be great! On ATWT and Y&R he proved himself a dark yet enjoyable HW.

It’s a big cast and everyone must take turns you say? Funny because Nina just had a big story and is getting another one. Same for Peter. On and newbie Margeaux. But Liz and Sam haven’t had story about them in a longtime

Why should I look forward to Liz marry Francostein! Jasam again is just making me want to up chuck. The s/l w Carly will be good since it has to do with Ferncliff. Nothing hospital related. I watched in the 60’s and revolved around the hospital and the folks relatives. We are seeing some hospital but not near enough. Have Jason remember his past and wanting to be a Dr and make him one! Let Jason and Liz (who has family roots from the core people who started on the show! Even before the Q’s & others.

“Francostein!” Hahahhaha; that was good. (Although, I like Franco but gotta admit that was quite the “nickname” you gave him.)

Looks like Jason and Sam are going to be together again which I find ridiculous. The fact that Sam, after five years, has known what it’s like to live a safer life (both with Patrick and Drew) and seemed to love it, would want to be tied to the mob again, knowing that Jason will continue to put his life on the line, he could be “killed” for real the next time, she and her kids could be targets and that he’ll continue to put Carly before her…doesn’t make sense. I DO think they have great chemistry but agree…was hoping Jason would have some kind of memory breakthrough on his own, give up “the business” and do something hospital-related. At almost 50 I think it’s a tad too late for medical school (though, with his money he could afford it and his intelligence he’d probably be out and ready to practice in “soapy” no time). He could at least be a paramedic, something. This lapdog thug thing has run its course.

Ingo Rademacher Returns As GH’s Jax Beginning In May

Things will get more interesting in the lives of Josslyn (Eden McCoy), Carly (Laura Wright), Sonny (Maurice Benard) and many others on the GH canvas with the arrival back in Port Charles of Jasper Jacks.  That’s because as previously announced, Ingo Rademacher is headed back to the ABC daytime drama series to reprise his signature role.

Circle May 7th for when you will see Jax back in action.  According to EW.com. “He’s back to see his daughter Josslyn and ex-wife Carly”   Jax will also share scenes with Steve Burton (Jason) and of course Maurice Benard (Sonny).

Looks like Jax may be back to help out Josslyn in her time of need as her boyfriend Oscar’s (Garren Stitt) final days seem to be drawing near, or does something else also bring his attention back to Port Charles?

It’s been a bit since Ingo played Jax on GH having last appeared on the soap in April of 2017.  Ingo eventually landed the role as the recast Thorne Forrester on CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful, a part he played till December of 2018.

Back in March, the actor originally from down under shared on his Instagram account: “Won’t be long now.  Just had my fitting. All new look for Jax. Start shooting next week. No air date yet. Stay tuned. Can’t wait!”

So, excited for some Jax on GH? What do you think will bring him back? What do you think will keep him in town? Comment below.

GH’s Coby Ryan McLaughlin Talks: Shiloh’s ‘Dawn Of Day’ Followers, Playing A Cult Leader, And His Co-Stars

Ever since the arrival in Port Charles of the mysterious “David Henry Archer” (Hank) now better known now as “Shiloh” (Coby Ryan McLaughlin), the minds of several members of the community have been revealed to, or have fallen under his spell.

For Shiloh is the cult leader of the group “Dawn of Day”.  He wields his manipulative skills to entrap unsuspecting people in his quest for power and control.   And make no mistake about it … he certainly has a target for Sam (Kelly Monaco), and an ax to grind with her.   For in her past, “the con-artist” Sam apparently swindled Shiloh’s father leaving him with next to nothing.  In addition to that, it has been noted, that Shiloh shared combat time in Afghanistan with Drew Cain (Billy Miller), before changing his name and coming to the town, where says he owes Drew for saving his life.

In story, one of his most loyal followers, Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) was to be initiated in the inner-circle of the cult, and after drinking from the cup as part of the ritual which drugged her, she was saved by Jason (Steve Burton ) who got her out of the “Dawn of Day” house and to a secret location, leaving Shiloh infuriated and needing to cover his tracks.  As the story has played out, we learn that Brad (Parry Shen) has also been bitten by the “Dawn of Day” bug and believes in Shiloh’s musing.  So much so that he wiped the evidence from the cup Krisina drank out of that Jason provided to Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) for testing in the hospital.  The GH audience has also learned that Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) was one of Shiloh’s favorite former members of the cult.  She has revealed she had a child with the guy (the baby she thinks is being raised by Brad) and needs to make sure he never finds out.  But, does Shiloh secretly know?

When we last saw Shiloh on Thursday’s episode of GH, he went into the files of the “Dawn of Day” followers and found Kristina’s.  He opened it, and we finally learn her “pledge” – a deep rooted secret from her past that one must share as part of the journey with the cult.  It revealed, that Shiloh knows that Kristina was abused by her former boyfriend Kiefer and that her mother, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) ran him down and killed him with her car.  Kristina knows about it first-hand, because she saw it happen as she was in the car with Alexis.  What will Shiloh eventually do with this Intel?

Michael Fairman TV chatted with Coby Ryan McLaughlin, who has been the catalyst for much of the latest trouble brewing on-screen on GH about: the complexities of playing such a dynamic, and yet terrifying character, what has it been like mixing it up with the stellar cast of the ABC daytime drama series, and what he thinks Shiloh’s next move might be.  Here’s what Coby had to say about all and more!

What do you think about the reaction of the GH audience to Shiloh?  Is it what you expected?

COBY:  I’ve never really played a bad guy like this.  It’s interesting playing a villain because they love to hate you.  I’ll go on Instagram every now and then and throw elbows at the fans.  It’s really a trip.  The thing I like about this guy is that he’s not completely diabolical.  There are other things going on with this guy; he has other agendas as well.  It’s interesting seeing people react to what it is that I am doing while I have a storyline that is playing out.

Courtesy/ABC

It’s is a bit of a trip as you say; because you have to, in many ways, be subtle in the manipulation as a cult leader would do.  Did you do any research on cult leaders before stepping into Shiloh’s shoes?

COBY:  I didn’t do much when I initially got the part, because I actually know some people like this.  I think as actors, one of the most interesting parts of our jobs is that we just get to sit back and observe things about people’s behaviors.  There are certain people who I have come across where my “Spidey senses” start tingling, and you think, “Well, I’m not going to get involved with this person, but what a fascinating individual.  This behavior is so fascinating.”  However, once I started this gig, yes, I did do research.   I’ll tell you, the one thing that a lot of these guys have in common is that they are extraordinarily exuberant.  They have just this energy about them, and they are seemingly humble.  They have these grandiose visions and these delusions of grandeur, but they do it in a way where you’re like, “Huh.  That almost seems kind of normal.”  In order to get a large number of people to follow you, you’ve got to be charismatic, you’ve got to be saying something that people really tap into and want to hear.  The behavior and psychology behind it are really interesting.  I watched this one documentary and these people literally had no idea … until they did.  They literally had no idea that they were in a cult until they woke up, and they were like, “Holy s**t.  This isn’t right.  This doesn’t feel right.”   Shiloh is an interesting role to play, and it’s written so straight down the line that I really don’t have to push anything, because the guy is written as what he is.   It’s really cool to be able to find all of the little things in that character, so I try to make him a whole bunch of different things to different people.

Did you know from the beginning that Shiloh would turn out to be this cult leader in the “Dawn of Day” storyline?  Who did you screen-test with that landed you the part?

COBY:  No, I didn’t know what he was going to be in the beginning.  I knew that he had an agenda, and when Mark Teschner (casting director, GH) told me that he was going to be a cult leader, I was like, “Oh, okay.  I know what I want to do.”   I have always had the opinion that cult leaders don’t come off bad… they’ve got to be likable.  You have to be able to relate to them in a way.  You have to be able to look at them and be like, “Ah well, maybe in certain circumstances what this guy is doing is okay.”  You have to be able to almost justify some of the behavior until you can’t anymore.  I screen tested with Laura Wright (Carly), and she is really fantastic.  We sit in the makeup chair and shoot the breeze all the time.

Courtesy/ABC

So, is Shiloh infatuated with Sam?   What does he ultimately want from her?

COBY:  Yes, but he wants a lot. (Laughs) There’s a lot of backstory to him and what really brought him to Port Charles.  Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) and I have conversations all of the time about what this guy really is, and what his ultimate goals are, and that may change.  I think that Shiloh is a guy who has come to find his power, and the more powerful he gets, the more he wants.   You know, I’ve become a fan of General Hospital now.  I never watched the show before I got this gig.  I was a Days of our Lives guy years ago.  Don’t tell anybody. (Laughs).

Okay… we will not tell. (Laughs) Ah, sorry!  That’s got to be in the interview! (Laughs)

COBY:  All of  sudden, I will get a message from HR saying, “You’ve been great, but…” (Laughs)   But as to what Shiloh wants with Sam, you know I will read the scripts in advance, and I’ll start creating certain these things for myself in my own mind, such as: “What if he wanted to screw over Sam because of what she did to his father?”  What if it started like that, but all of the sudden he’s coming into some prominence and he wants to go after Sonny’s empire, and what if he wants to run the whole town and screw everybody…?”  I go through this whole thing.  It could literally go anywhere at any time, which is so cool about the soap world.

Without revealing what it is, do you have an idea of what the endgame is for Shiloh, or do you not?

COBY:  No, I don’t.  I think that it changes.  This is a really malleable medium, I’m coming to discover.  I think that nothing is set in stone.  I ultimately know what I want… just because I ultimately think that the foundation of the whole thing is rooted deep within this individual’s character: his emotional makeup, and how he was treated.  There is a lot of revenge going on with this guy, but there is a lot more than that.  He’s not just motivated by revenge.

Courtesy/ABC

Something had to have happened to him, of course, because you know how it works in soap operas!?  If you’re completely evil or bad, and even if you do horrendous things, and they want to keep you on the show, they have to find a way to humanize the character.  Otherwise, you’re there to cause trouble for a time, and you’re killed-off.  Shiloh’s tentacles seem more far-reaching then viewers first suspected.  He has this thing for Willow, who used to be in the cult, and now he’s got Brad under this thumb. What did you think about how much Shiloh is intertwined with and affecting the Port Charles canvas right now?

COBY:  I think that he is an apex predator.  I think that he sees certain people, and he knows how to utilize them for what he wants.  It’s kind of like a chess game.  He knows where Brad is.  He’s always wanted Willow, because it’s the one that got away, so there are certain things he uses as a means to an end, and there are certain things that I think he wants just for himself.  I think the relationships that he creates with this “higher-ups” in the town are because he knows he can utilize them, and there are some personal relationships that he keeps personal.  Shiloh has his own reasons for doing what he does, especially with Willow.  I think he was grooming her to be something.  Just the fact that she left him … really bothers him.

Photo: ABC

He doesn’t know that Willow had his child, or does he … hmmm?

COBY:  No, not as far as we know.

If he was to know, what do you think he would do?

COBY:  Well …  you’re just going to have to watch and find out.

So, when you found out that there was this major initiation going on which included: the drugging of Kristina, the huge payment she made to be in Shiloh’s inner-circle, and how he was preying on her vulnerability, were you like, “Oh my, God! They’re really going all the way with this cult thing?”

COBY:  No.  We kind of alluded to it, and it has to go all the way.   I wasn’t surprised when I read that in the script.  This is this guy’s MO.  He gets what he wants.

Courtesy/ABC

Shiloh’s s really upset that Kristina is missing and has figured that Jason kidnapped her.  He wants her back in the fold, correct?

COBY:  He does want her back, but he wants her back for a variety of reasons … and not just the fact that she reminds him of Willow.  That’s part of it, but I personally believe that he wants her back, because as I mentioned earlier it’s all about chess pieces for him.  He sets up the prominent people in his organization, so he can set them up to expand his means and to expand his agenda … to motivate his agenda, because there is a bigger picture to all of this.  Kristina is a Corinthos and she is part of the most powerful family in Port Charles, so there is that as well.  He wants to be able to have that power hold over that towns that he is in.

Many in the audience are wondering if Shiloh having sex with Kristina was a key part of his plan.  Is that part of his ritual?  Having sex with women upon initiation into his “inner circle”… or is that a grey area?

COBY:  Here is the thing, everything is consensual with him … that’s where his charm comes into play, that’s where sense of power comes into play.  So, with these women, nothing is forced.  There is not coercion …  at all!   So, yes, its alluded that he sleeps with them, but we don’t necessarily know if that is true for all of them … or…. if it is just for the ones that he takes a liking to.   The other thing we know; is that this guy is also a megalomaniac, so it’s also an exertion of power as well.  What I tried to do with it was not make it so completely overt.   He is a bit of a jerk, but I don’t want it to overstep that boundary of being tasteless.  I think you can go too far with it, so that is one of the reasons that we alluded to the fact that it was always consensual, and people what to be with him for one reason, or another.

Courtesy/ABC

That’s why there was an important conversation written into the script with Jason, Sam, and Michael (Chad Duell) about how there is no way to nail Shiloh for a crime because he is so cagey with every move he makes.

COBY:  Yeah, you could say cagey, I say smart.

Now, Jason is his target.  Would you say there are even more underlying reasons that the obvious of why he dislikes Jason so much? Does he really have an axe to grind with him?

COBY:  I think he likes messing with people, and I think if he is unable to exert his power, or his will, or his control, over somebody, it really annoys him.  The stuff with Steve Burton is rather fun!  Shiloh can’t manipulate Jason like he can manipulate these girls, or the way he manipulates Brad, because Jason just operates on a whole different level.  I think that Shiloh finds it fascinating that he can’t get to him.   Shiloh also wants to get him out of the way, because he can’t out-muscle him.  Even if I could, the writers wouldn’t allow it. (Laughs) So, that’s never going to happen.  As Shiloh, I have to out-think him, because I want him out of the picture.   Shiloh sees Jason as an obstacle and he wants him out of the way, and he will do it by any means necessary, via him or with his kids… anyway that he can, because he can’t get at him on his level, because the playing field isn’t equal.

Courtesy/ABC

What about Shiloh’s relationship with Drew (Billy Miller)?  What does he truly feel about him?

COBY:  I have this conversation with Frank Valentini all the time.  I think the relationship I have with Drew might be the only true relationship I have with anybody.  I think that Drew really did what Shiloh said that he did.  I think Drew really saved his life, and he does really want to pay that debt back.  I think therein really lies the contradiction with this guy.  It makes it difficult for him to operate.  I think he is conflicted on some levels because he is one guy to Drew, and he is a different guy to everybody else.  I think the way Shiloh is with Drew is real.  In his past, I think that Shiloh was completely fatalistic and reckless and didn’t care if he lived or died, and Drew did save his life, and he gave him a purpose.  However, I also think that he is such a damaged individual.  He needs that feeling of safety by exuding his power and control over others.  The writers have alluded to the fact that he has this other life, and that he was a broken individual, and turned his life around and came back from the brink of dying, of killing myself, of not caring.  So, with Drew, I don’t want to manipulate him.  I don’t want to use him.  I am truly just grateful for the fact that he allowed me another chance at life.  I love working with Billy, because that’s when I get to be human.  I’m not trying to gaslight him.  I’m not trying to get something from him – well, I’ll take that back, because I am trying to get something from him.  I’m just not trying to do it in a way that I go about it with the other characters.  There is a huge amount of respect between the two of us.

Unfortunately, Drew doesn’t remember anything about their past, which puts “pause” in believing Shiloh’s war stories.

COBY:  Yet.  (Laughs). Well, we’ve been alluding to the fact of, “What if he did this? What if he went back into his memories?  What if he were able to remember?  There are a lot of “What if’s …”  So, they keep a lot of balls in the air with this relationship.

Photo: ABC

What has it been like working with Lexi Ainsworth in this story, because she has been the main character so far drawn into the cult?

COBY:  She’s great.  I love Lexi.  She is so easy, fun, and safe, and just a really nice person.  We sit and chat all of the time and talk about what it is that we want from each other in the scene and how it’s going to work.   Everyone is great.   Kaetlyn MacMullan is so much fun as well as Willow.  As an actor, it’s really fun when you get people who really want to play and want to go.

And, what are your thoughts on working with GH favorite, Kelly Monaco, who is key in your storyline?

COBY:  Kelly is rad.  We talk about being able to “play jazz” all of the time, which means being able to go into a scene and just riff and have a good time, because there is so much dialog that you have to learn.  I mean, that dialogue is nuts, and sometimes you forget halfway through a page-long monologue when you are at 27 pages in.  That’s when it’s wonderful to have a really good dance partner who can pick you up.  There are times where I get so off script, and I’m like, “Holy s**t!  Where am I going with this?” (Laughs) I have got really good people like Lexi, Katelyn, or Kelly who have my back and that just makes it fun.

Courtesy/ABC

Some actors like to watch back their work, while others don’t.  Do you check out your performances on GH?

COBY:  Yeah.  Somebody on Instagram, this wonderful fan, will take all of the Shiloh’s scenes and post them!  Shockingly, I don’t own a television, so I don’t watch the show that way.

Do you make changes or adjustments once you see your work?

COBY:  Not really.  I made a decision to keep it real low-key with this, and just try to play everything real.   The other thing is I had never done anything like this before in my career.  I was so intimated by this whole thing, that it was like, “Alright man.  Just get in and listen.  Listen to what your scene partners are saying to you.”  In my approach, I am trying to be as still as I can possibly be and let whatever that person is saying motivate my responses and my actions.  If I watch my work, I’m like, “Yeah, that makes sense to me; I like that.  That’s something that this individual would do.”  Shiloh controls every situation that he is in, and even when he is introduced to new characters, he doesn’t wait to be introduced, he’ll just walk up and say, “Hi, I’m Shiloh!  What’s new with you?  How’s it going?” (Laughs) He kind of disarms them in every scene he is in.

Photo: IMDB

Soap fans first saw you on The Young and the Restless in your stint as Andrew working alongside Eileen Davidson (Ashley).  How was that experience for you?

COBY:  Eileen was unreal.  She was really cool, because none of this phased her.  She had been doing daytime so long that it was just a thing to her.  I’d sit there and read my scripts over and over and over again, but she just knew how to do it.  It was so easy for her, that it made it easy for me.

In a broad stroke, what would you tells the fans to look forward to with Shiloh?

COBY:  Well, Shiloh is going to continue his agenda.  He is going to have to go about it in a different way.  There are things going down right now (and I won’t spoil it) that are going to change the way he operates, and he is going to have to get what he wants in a different way.  Some of the people who you would have thought that he trusted, have turned against him.  It just all makes it more fun for him because this is a huge game.  Even the stuff with Sam, you may think that you know where it is going, but it may not be.  So, as much as he is enamored by Sam, he has an agenda with her.

So, what do you think will be Shiloh’s next move?  Will he blackmail Alexis to get Kristina back at “Dawn of Day”? What is his plan for Sam? Is Shiloh connected to a key family in Port Charles, but it has yet to be revealed? Who else do you think might wind up in the cult? Finally, are you enjoying Coby’s performance on GH?
