General Hospital
Is General Hospital’s Gio Going to be the New Young Man in Trina’s Life?
General Hospital has big shoes to fill with the departure of Nicholas Chavez (ex-Spencer Cassadine), plus the popularity of the couple “Sprina” as played by Chavez and Tabyana Ali (Trina).
Viewers may have been given a glimpse into the future and GH’s summer storylines when on Thursday’s June 6th episode, Trina laid eyes on Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza). In story, Joss (Eden McCoy) sorta pushes Gio into the Metro Court pool fully clothed after it’s revealed that Gio is one of the new pool attendants.
Just as he is getting out of the water, who should he see but Trina. Gio asks for an introduction to her friend, and Joss introduce Trina Gio also reveals he’ll be going to PCU in the fall, which means hopefully Trina and him could be seeing more of each other.

Knowing he that Gio is a violinist, Trina tells Gio that she works at an art gallery and that they are actually planning an event soon and could use some music that won’t distract from people’s conversations. Gio says he is definitely interested and asks Trina if he can give her his number. Trina smiles.

Photo: ABC
Speaking with Soap Opera Digest Giovanni Mazza said of a potential Trina/Gio pairing, “She’s (Trina) interested in who Gio is and wants to know more about him, just as he wants to know about her, and I think we’ll develop a great connection on the show. I feel like there’s so much that could happen and could blossom out of our relationship, and I’m excited to know where the story goes. As a fan of the show, I also want to know what’s going to happen next!”
So, would you be down for a Gio and Trina burgeoning romantic storyline? Comment below.
Yessssss
The second-hand embarrassment over scenes like this is off the charts.
Has GH EVER been this bad before? Even Lucy and her duck was better than this.
(Side note: why does the entire town seemingly get to use the pool, when they’re not staying at the hotel?)
I often wondered ab
The MC pool is an easy way for them to show off some of the actors’ finer bodies.
As it’s the only pool set, it does make it awkward when people like the Quartermaines hang out there. At least they had Willow explain why Wiley liked it better, but what was Drew’s reasoning? Was he taking a work break?
He’s a very handsome young man and reminds me somewhat of Nicholas Chavez. I’m not sure when the casting happened, but if they knew Chavez was not coming back why didn’t they just recast him as Spencer?
It’s highly likely the show thought Chavez would be coming back for a few months to finish his contract. What we’re seeing on screen now was probably written in February or Marc, when it was assumed Chavez would return.
he seems too young for Trina
I thought he looked younger when his photos were passed around before he appeared onscreen (they may have been older photos). But seeing him actually interact with the actresses playing Trina and Joss, they all look like contemporaries and he fits right in.
I don’t think so; I still think he looks too young. They should have brought Emma back for him. She’s 18, he’s 19, and those two could have been going to college together. Joss and Trina should be graduating at this point.
The actor just turned 19 last month and I think Taby is 21/22. On the show they made a point of saying he’s 21.
Ditto!!!
Yes ! 100% plus he is very charismatic.
Probably, because GH can’t help but push black/white couples. Is Drew going to wind up with Jordan? So far Trina has fallen for Cam, then Spencer, and now Gio? For all their diversity, why don’t they bring on a young black actor/character, for Trina? The choice the show is making is an obvious one, as are many other shows and TV commercials. And for me, it just turns me off to the couple from the start, because of its intent.
And how did Gio suddenly go from being Brook Lynn and Lois’s cousin to Olivia’s nephew?
So us interracial families (been married for 20 years to a wonderful white man) are not allowed to see themselves represented on tv when white/white and black/black couples have always been featured as n entertainment. So you’re telling me that the world doesn’t not fits into one type of box. I can’t hear you. Speak up louder for those of us interracial weirdos in the back!!!
Please Rebecca. Lmao. All you would do if they brought on another Black character is complain about how there are too many Black characters. Let’s be honest here. If this show causes you this much misery, why do you watch???
I’m disgusted that when I continuously bring up the obvious, glaring, fact that there’s not one Jewish character, there’s not one viewer on this site (I think there WAS ‘one’) who stands in solidarity and says, “you’re right. I can see your point of view. Seems like they are adding more and more minorities and yet it is odd that there’s not ONE Jewish character.
But since the show is intent on their agenda, then yeah, I notice an obvious choice for Trina’s new interest, these aren’t accidental decisions by the show. They make deliberate casting calls for more black characters, even down to day players, yet still don’t have ONE Jewish character. Transgender? Check. Gay? Check. Latin? Asian? Check. And those are just tokens; one or two occasional characters. But a Jewish doctor in a hospital? Naaa; let’s make Matt Cohen a priest. LOL
Black viewers have spoken up for years when there were barely any black characters. But when a Jewish person speaks up? They’re called out instead of supported.
So, only Black/POC can be paired with each other, and only White can be paired with White? That’s beyond close-minded and very colourist/racist to its core.
No; it means that there’s an agenda. It’s not by coincidence that Trina’s interests have been Cam, Spencer, and now possibly Gio. Since they expand the black cast, why not bring on a black guy for Trina? And I explained the rest above; I’ve discussed this before. I stand by what I said. We all see the world, fiction and real, through different eyes.
No, not an agenda. In real life, many people have a type of person to whom they’re attracted. Lord knows, I see that with many of my friends.
The Ashford/Robinson family is the only Black family currently, so a new Black young adult would not have a family connection, which is extremely helpful in establishing new characters. We don’t see Felix outside of memorials or the Nurses Ball. Phyllis has disappeared into the vortex with Taggert, Liesl and Brad. Brick is hardly a meaningful character (and his scenes with Jordan are cringeworthy). So, bringing Trina into the Quartermaine adjacent world allows for more story.
In real life, people have Jewish friends. In real life, 50-60 percent of Jewish people are married to non Jewish people. In real life, there are Jewish doctors. I don’t ANY of that reflected on soaps; on GH.
Why not pair Gio with Skye’s daughter who could join the show? Why not bring Emma back for Gio? Why attempt to put Trina into the legacy families? It is an agenda if the show moves forward.
Bringing Trina into the Cassadine fold would have ruined not only Spencer’s Cassadine nature, but the entire fun of the Cassadines; good vs evil history. Since we no longer have Helena, Stavros, Victor, Stefan (whom I adored), and they’ve written Nikolas out, Spencer would have had to be on his best behavior to meet the approval of Trina and her family, and basically havebeen a absorbed into her family. Another loss of a legacy family.
Trina and Joss are in college (which is ridiculous; they should be graduating). Why not have Trina meet a fellow student who happens to be a black guy? Or, a young black man can walk into Ava’s gallery looking to buy art, etc. But that’s not what the show wants to do; that much is obvious.
Past and present black characters: Jordan, TJ, Portia, Curtis, Stella, Marshall, Brick, Neka (bartender at the Savoy), Detective Bennett, Felix, the nurse who we see often (can’t recall her name), Valerie, Taggert, Sean, Justice, Keisha, Epiphany, Phyllis, Lenny..
How many Jewish characters? Asian? Latino? When a show defines diversity as the addition and expansion of primarily black characters, that in and of itself is an agenda and it’s no different than what they’ve always done; made it about certain people only.
Trina was also with Rory, the young Latino cop. Who got hooked, so he unfortunately wasn’t around all that long.
I have to somewhat agree on the whole Gio thing though. Nothing against the actor, seems like a nice kid, but they seem to be forcing him into everything really quickly, so much that they can’t even remember who he’s related to. I guess maybe the entire Bensonhurst crowd considers each other “family”. But is this kid supposed to actually be related to both the Cerullos AND the Falconeris?? I didn’t make that much of him calling Sonny his “uncle” because BrookLynn does that also even though they aren’t actually related. Might be a similar thing with calling Olivia his “auntie”?
Yep; first thing I noticed when he called Olivia “Aunt Olivia.” Totally didn’t make sense, He was promoted before coming to the show as Brook Lynn’s cousin, he was mentioned at the wedding as Brook Lynn’s cousin, Lois explained to someone at the wedding that someone was married to someone..some kind of son of a second cousin or something. ZERO mentionof Gio and Olivia being related. In a FB group, someone said that maybe it’s because the family is close with Olivia; well calling her “aunt” when Los is the same age and he doesn’t call her his aunt, would make no sense. Totally frustrating. I imagine those of us paying attention all doing the head tilt as in, “huh?” lol
As for Rory, if you recall he’s the one guy she wasn’t into and felt bad about it. Tried to feel it but didn’t… In real life, I think the actor was called out for using the N word years earlier, someone dug that up on Twitter. That might have been the reason for his early departure…
Olivia and lois and sonny r bffs they grew up together that why brook lynn calls sonny her uncle sonny and gio is related to cerullos on his mom side and and he calls sonny his uncle too why cuz sonny is closed to both of cerullos and Falconeri’s families
I am so happy to see Giovanni ( pronounced ; Jo-vahnni, not Gee-o-vani—double consonants are stressed in Italian) join the cast. Please keep Trina away from him. Bring Sydney back!!
Oh please no,no,no!
Agreed… I thought he paired better with Joslyn.
I actually enjoyed Trina’s interactions with gio so far and hopefully trina and gio becomes close friends then turn into something more.
Someone here still obsessed with Sydney sorry girl Tabyana is here to stay eat that or puke rather don’t watch for your happiness
Yes I’m all for it for gio and trina pairing!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
