GENERAL HOSPITAL: Tracy Speaks at Monica’s Memorial, Jason Says a Final Goodbye, and Erika Slezak Makes Her Debut
In a beautiful, heart-breaking and emotional episode of General Hospital, the cast, the writers and producers did right to their legacy star, the late Leslie Charleson and the beloved character she played for 47 years, Dr. Monica Quartermaine.
We are sure fans of the soap opera were in puddles of tears several times throughout the memorable and poignant, Friday, September 26 episode of the ABC daytime drama series. As the story picked-up, a wheelchair bound Drew (Cameron Mathison) showed up at the memorial service for his mother, only to be quickly wheeled out of the church and into the foyer by Tracy (Jane Elliot). She told him he’s not wanted here.
Now, up on her feet, and previously dreading to speak at Monica’s funeral, she finally was able to bring herself to do it. Tracy began with, “Okay, I’m going to try. Because I know if I don’t, I’m going to regret it.” Choking back tears and preparing herself, Tracy shared, “Monica means that much to me.” She then spoke on their complicated history and how she thought her brother, Alan married beneath him with Monica.

Tracy recalled that, “Monica gave as good as she got. And somewhere between, during, or because of our epic battles, I grew to respect her. In fact, that respect grew to love. My brother made her my sister-in-law, but she became my sister.” Then, in one of the more heart-tugging moments of the memorial, Tracy in tears says, “So, my sister, looks like I’m the last one standing. But don’t you worry: That house is yours. Alan gave it to you, an as long as I’m alive, I promise you, it will stay that way.”

Now back at the hospital, Martin (Michael E. Knight) is surprised to see Drew back so soon from the funeral, as he spews how he’d been publicly shunned and it made it clear that he wasn’t considered a true member of the family and never would be. Drew confessed he is pinning his shooting on Michael, but admitted to Martin, “I don’t remember a damn thing. But the police don’t have to know that.” Drew vowed to make Michael (Rory Gibson) pay for everything he’d taken from him. Martin asked him to reconsider because Tracy is the one is anger should be directed at, but Drew intimated that Tracy will get what’s coming to her as well!
With the service over, everyone is arriving at the Quartermaines’ for the reception, and as mourning after a funeral goes, this felt real-to-life, with Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) baking in the kitchen to keep her mind off her pain of losing Monica, her son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) helping her serve the food, Dante and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) estranged son, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) showing up to pay his respects, Ned (Wally Kurth) being emotional and bringing levity to the situation throughout and more.

Out on the patio, Jason (Steve Burton ) is by himself taking the death of his mother very hard, and the regret he feels for all the years he distanced himself from the family. Lulu (Alexa Havins) comes to comfort him and tells him Monica knew how much you loved her. Laura (Genie Francis) shows up and is in tears over Monica’s death as Lulu consoles her mother as she cries she will miss her dear friend.
Inside the house, Gio speaks to Tracy, He says being at the memorial gave him a renewed perspective on his situation seeing how the Q family banded together. He feels very proud to be part of the family and as Monica’s great-grandson. This brings tears to Tracy’s eyes. As the family is gathered in the Quartermaine living room toasting to Monica, Jason is feeling isolated. Outside in the foyer, a grief-stricken Tracy takes a moment to sit and look at Monica’s photos and all the Quartermaines that have left her. Suddenly, she walks out of the house.

Next, Jason walks out of the living room and starts to walk up the staircase to Monica’s room. He stops in his tracks to toast to his mother, and to tell her how much he loves her. We cut to the montage of Leslie Charleson as Monica through the years that reminded of all of: Alan and Monica’s stormy marriage, her enduring relationship with Jason, her daughter, Emily (Amber Tamblyn), the iconic breast cancer storyline, in which Charleson received a Daytime Emmy nominations for, and more.

As the montage came to an end, the scene took us to General Hospital and the memorial wall, where Laura, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Portia (Brook Kerr), Felicia (Kristina Wagner) are together as Monica has now joined the other deceased doctors and nurses with her photo now placed alongside the others, as Elizabeth hugs Laura who is overcome with sadness.

In the cliffhanger, Tracy arrives at the Quartermaine crypt and sees the door is cracked open, She sees someone standing there and asks, “Who are you? And what are you doing here?” The woman turns around revealing the one and only Erika Slezak who responds, “Someone who has been waiting to meet you for a long time.” We fade to black.

However, in the closing credits, Slezak was in the cast list with the character name “Veronica Bard.” Longtime GH fans know that Monica’s name was Monica Bard Quartermaine. Just if Erika will prove to be playing Monica’s sister as expected, won’t be confirmed on-screen till next week!
So, do you think GH delivered a proper goodbye and tribute to Leslie Charleson and Monica Quartermaine ? We reached for the hankies several times over. Did you? Share your reactions via the comment section below and check out the beginning of the episode below, one more time.
Everything was lovely and moving! But I have a question for regular viewers: I don’t understand why Jason has been front and center throughout the storyline of Monica’s death, notwithstanding the good acting performance from Steve Burton. It’s my recollection that, for most of the time, Jason completely rejected the Quartermaines, including Monica. Am I wrong?
Hi James
For the first 15 years after the accident, Jason did indeed clash with the Qs. But as he matured, and eventually had children, that relationship softened slowly. He seemed to truly regret not seeing Alan while he was dying. Monica initially blamed him for Emily’s death until it came out that it was not mob related.
It was Sam who encouraged Jason to have more contact with the Qs. Danny’s middle name is Edward, which Jason was okay with. Initially, Jason was thought not to be Danny’s biological father. It was Monica telling him how she loved him despite not being her biological son that he stepped up for Sam.
Jason was presumed dead the first time when Edward passed. AJ had returned from the dead and died for the final time all while Jason was “dead”.
When everyone (including Drew) assumed Drew was Jason, the relationship with the remaining Qs mended with “Jason” donating money to save the hospital. When the real Jason returned, Monica knew fairly quickly that he was the son that she raised. He and Billy Miller’s Drew really didn’t interact that much after Sam left Drew to return to Jason.
LC had a few scenes with Cameron Matheson’s Drew when he came on board but was no longer able to appear after Jason’s latest return from the dead.
When Sam died last year, it was her wish to keep her kids together. At that point, Dante and Jason both moved into the mansion (Drew was already living there) to keep the kids together despite CM’s Drew and Jason dislike for each other. Jason and Tracy have shared some thoughtful scenes this year since he moved back into the house Alan gave Monica.
Hello Steve:
Thank you for your reply and detailed explanation of the storylines and giving context to my concerns. Not being a regular viewer, I was unfamiliar with most of these details. Again, I am amazed at your recall and knowledge of these storylines. Take care, Friend!
He’s Monica’s only living child and he made mistakes in the past, but haven’t we all.
Thank you for your reply, Michael. Good point!
The last week of GH has been awesome! Great tributes to Dr. Monica Quartermaine, a beloved character!
Sonny and Carly not at Monica’s funeral? Thank you, Soap Gods!
Amen to that!
WHERE IS CARLY? SHE SHOULD BE FRONT AND CENTER!!! WITHOUT CARLY, THERE IS NO GH. SUNNY TOO!! The other characters are planets who orbit around Carly and Sunny( as in SUN- get it?). The show has been so weak without Sunny and Carly dominating the stories. And both of em should have been front and center at Monica’s funeral. SO DISAPPOINTED!!

Breaking News
John Oliver Lands Roles on ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Days of Our Lives’

The soap opera Gods haves smiled down upon late night talk show and Emmy winner, John Oliver. The Last Week Tonight host revealed on Sunday’s June 28 episode of his HBO Max series, that he booked two roles on two different soap operas, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives and his long-fueled desire to appear in a role on the genre had been fully realized, twice over!
Previously, Oliver let it be known back in the March 8 episode of this late night show, that after realizing ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith (Brick) had a recurring role on a soap opera, that he was tinged with jealously and wanted to do the same sharing, “To all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I will be on your set so fast, it will make your head spin.” Oliver also had some mandates he wanted a character with a “ridiculous” name, and he wanted,” something juicy, like murder, or slapping, or being slapped, or being someone’s long-lost something.”
So, who came a calling? First up, General Hospital! Oliver will be playing a “significant” character to a major storyline (and i think you know who it will be!) in episodes that begin this week for a three-episode arc starting on Thursday, July 2, Friday, July 3 and wrapping Monday, July 6.

JOHN OLIVER COMES TO PORT CHARLES
In a statement, GH executive producer, Frank Valentini told Variety, “When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second. He was everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.”
John Oliver added: “General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show.”
On the Sunday, June 28 episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared, “General Hospital had genuinely picked me for a role and given me the chance to hang out in Port Charles, the home of Luke and Laura, the Corinthos family and Brick, and given me the chance to join the ranks of guest stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Sammy Davis Jr, and of course the great Colonel Sanders.”
Oliver explained, “I’ll be on General Hospital next week and while I’m not going to spoil anything. I will show you this picture of my character. Yes, that is me surrounded by men with guns. And yes, my hair has been dipped in an ink well (see lead photo of this article), and if you can tell from my face, I’m acting my hardest.”
As the story broke, GH’s Chris McKenna (Brennan) took to X and said “Go to ‘Z’ with the hashtags #GH and @HBO, meaning Oliver has to be playing the never-before-seen boss of Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), who Carly (Laura Wright) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) are trying to get to.
JOHN OLIVER COMES TO SALEM
Following, his stint on General Hospital and as first reported by Oliver himself, he will next be seen in episodes streaming on Peacock of Days of Our Lives, August 11, 12 and 14. Given DAYS usually tapes ten-months in advance of streaming, it’s clear they worked in some new scenes featuring Oliver just the other week.
In a statement on his guest star role on Days of Our Lives, series executive producer, Ken Corday shared, “When John Oliver said, ‘Call me soaps, I’m available and willing to travel. I want to be a part of that world,’ our world, we had to heed the call!”

Photo: CordayProductions/ChrisHaston
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver explained, “I’m thrilled to announce I have an update, because I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of little show called Days of Our Lives. The show that gave us unforgettable moments like the Devil possessing Marlena, Sami Brady trying to rescue Phillip from Iraq by going in full soldier drag and Bo Brady discovering a mysterious woman in a bayou that everyone called Swamp Girl until learning she was actually a princess. Well, I’m happy to say that I’ve already taped a week of episodes on Days of Our Lives!”
He acknowledged being part of the iconic series and its legendary stars: “This is clearly a huge honor to come to the home of some of the more renowned soap actors like Deidre Hall (Marlena), Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), and the late John Aniston (ex-Victor).”

Oliver then showed a photo of himself in a scene with EJ DiMera played by Dan Feuerriegel and wearing a rather humorous hair piece. On Monday, Feuerriegel took to his social media and shared a behind the scenes photo of himself next to Oliver and writing, “Well, this happened 🤭 Can’t wait for y’all to enjoy the shenanigans. John crushes it. #daysofourlives #JohnOliver”
So, what do you think of John Oliver being given two soap roles from two shows, who quickly picked up on the the late night talk show host’s desire to appear on a soap and wrote roles and booked him? Weigh-in via the comment section, but first check out the promo from this week’s General Hospital featuring Oliver below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Britt and Rocco Say Their Goodbyes, Then She Gets Arrested; Anna Reveals “Nathan West” is an Imposter

On the Friday, June 26 episode of General Hospital, emotional moments, a new duo on the run, the end of the line for Britt and an eye-opening moment between Anna and Felicia were the order of the day. Let’s take a look at what went down, but first let’s give a round of applause for Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) and Finn Carr (Rocco) on their goodbye scenes.
In the story, Rocco insists to his parents, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu (Alexa Havins) that he wouldn’t leave Tortola without Britt. Dante is getting impatient because Britt brought all the trouble in recent months to his son. They need to protect him and they can’t if he stays with Britt. Lulu tells Britt she is the only one who can do the right thing, right now.
Britt explained it is too dangerous for Rocco to stay with her. She was very selfish and made a lot of terrible decisions along the way and Cullum is tracking her down because she did not finish the project he enlisted her for. She convinces Rocco to go with his parents and gives him a little token of something that reminded her of when he was a baby which is a bottle to blow bubbles with.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Rocco makes Britt promise to take her medication to ward off her Huntington’s disease symptoms and to keep changing locations so she is not caught. The two share a final hug as both are in tears. Dante makes a call. While in the car ready to leave Britt behind, Rocco says he will never forgive himself is something happened to Britt.
Back inside, Britt is ready to inject herself with her medication but is unaware that Cullum has now tainted it with poison! But she is saved from that, when two police officers burst through the door to arrest her for kidnapping charges! Did Dante call the local police? Is he doing this to keep her safe or to pay her back?
In Port Charles, Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) arrives at Crimson, completely unaware that the man in the elevator is following her. Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Charlotte have an argument about Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Suddenly, Willow calls her mother that she is being questioned by the PCPD, and Nina learns, it is as a suspect for being the other driver that left Jordan and Curtis injured by the side of the road on Route 91.
ARRIVALS AND DESTINATIONS IN QUESTION
Chase (Josh Swickard) comes to Willow’s rescue much to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Justine’s (Nazneen Contractor) chagrin. Willow learns Lucy and Drew are the supposed witnesses against her. Chase figures out when Joe (Jonathan Bennett) was alone with Drew, he got him to blink in a way that implicated her. However, in a shocking moment, Justine reveals that the trip log from Willow’s BMW SUV placed her at the scene of the accident just second before it occurred.
Meanwhile, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) comes by Crimson to see Charlotte. He says he broke into the WSB office to get info to expose Cullum as a double agent. Charlotte blows a gasket! She can’t believe that he would do something so stupid that it could have gotten him killed. She firmly tells Danny that best thing he can do to help Jason is to stay out of things. Danny storms out, but notices the stranger in the elevator who now steps into the Crimson lobby.

Courtesy/ABC
The man tells Charlotte he is Agent Mark McKay with the WSB and he has orders to bring her in. When she resisted, he was about to chloroform her, when Danny knocked him out and took off with Charlotte.
ANNA PUTS HER TRUST IN FELICIA
In France, after having some private time with Emma (Braedyn Bruner), Anna (Finola Hughes) wants to talk to Felicia (Kristina Wagner). She tells her best friend she was trying to figure out what memories of her past with Faison, she could trust and not trust. Since Felicia knows her best she is hoping she can believe what she is about to tell her.
It is then that Anna says, “Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) is not who he says he is.” Felicia looks dumb-founded. Will she believe her friend … or think she has drummed this all up in her mind? Stay tuned.
So, what did you think about the goodbye scenes featuring Finn Carr and Kelly Thiebaud? Did you reach for the hankies? Do you believe that soon, Cassius will be caught for his duplicity and the truth about Britt’s “illness” will come to light? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below. But first check out the scenes featuring Anna on her road to recovery in France
