GH’s Michael Easton Talks On Finn’s Hayden-Less Story, Finola Hughes & Favorite Soap Roles
It was a pretty wonky summer for General Hospital’s Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), especially concerning the women in his life. After proposing to Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) she exits to go deal with her twin sister, Alex, thus facilitating Hughes’ summer break from the series.
Meanwhile, another great love of Finn’s life, Hayden (Rebecca Budig) re-emerges on the canvas during Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and Franco’s (Roger Howarth) wedding reception, and is now clearly involved in some story with Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher). But what about the unresolved feelings and story with Hayden and Finn? After all, she left him and Port Charles and had his child (who is apparently alive) but is not letting her ex know that little fact.
Meanwhile as a doctor, Finn has had to deal with numerous medical infectious disease crisis’, with the latest being what happened to Sasha (Sofia Matteson) at the hands of the evil Cassandra Pierce (Jessica Tuck), who Finn would love to put behind bars for all of her nefarious drug-related crimes and for what she previously perpetrated on him.
Michael Fairman TV recently caught up with one of our favorite gents in daytime, Michael Easton, to get his thoughts on the on-screen developments in Port Charles, what he hopes is ahead this fall, a look back at some of his favorite soap roles (from One Life’s John McBain to Port Charles’ Caleb Morley), why One Life to Live was such a gem of a soap and a special time for him and his enduring soap career, and much more. So, here’s what Michael shared in our irreverent entertaining, and candid chat.

Hayden has been back. But you and Rebecca Budig have not thus far shared many scenes together. Do you think we will eventually circle back to their story?
MICHAEL: First of all, it is amazing having Rebecca back. I’d like to say that I had forgotten how beautiful and talented she is, but I didn’t. She stays with you, and her performances resonate. So, coming back to work with her is like falling back into it. For selfish reasons, I am somewhat disappointed that I thought when Hayden came back; she would completely turn Finn’s life upside down. So, to be honest with you, I don’t know much more than what you are seeing is going on.
I don’t understand why the show is keeping that apart. That’s what people wanted to see when Hayden came back, because many fans loved them together.
MICHAEL: I’ve taken a hit anytime I’ve run into fans because I think (any fans that follow that couple), when they left, are a little disappointed in what they are seeing in that the girl who left is not the girl who has come back. I think that has been the difficult thing for Finn. It’s almost like she has reverted back to a character she was a few years prior to that. In terms of having his life upturned, it hasn’t been upturned because she has been rather cold to him. So, it probably isn’t the way I would have told the story, but maybe they have some great stuff up their sleeve. I think the stuff that we have had together has shown promise. Hopefully there will be more, because I enjoy working with her so much.
So, there’s a baby. Does Finn ever think the baby Hayden said died, could be alive?
MICHAEL: I don’t think he does. I think he (just from Finn’s nature) would believe that she would never to that to him. I imagine his thought would be, “What did I ever do to you? You would do this to me,” because he was clearly in love with her, and she broke his heart. I don’t think he ever sees that coming. I know it’s hard because the audience all knows that, and it’s hard to play the person who is not in the loop when everybody else knows the truth, but you have to play that. You have to play that you don’t watch the show. I think Finn has to come from that place that she would never do that, and I think that will probably take it to a place (if that is the case) that will just make the fall that much grander, but again it is incredible having Rebecca back.

Photo: ABV
Has Rebecca said anything to you like, “What’s going on? I’m barely talking to you on the show?” (Laughs)
MICHAEL: Yes. I don’t want to speak for her, but I think she probably thought it was going to be more the character that left who was coming back. I think we’ve all been a little surprised, but maybe the writers have some great surprises up their sleeves, and this will play out. It’s just different than I thought it would play out.
Finola Hughes had gone off on her summer vacation for awhile which put a pause in what’s next for the Anna and Finn romance, as well.
MICHAEL: Well, you work with me long enough, and then you need some time off, right? It’s like PTSD, right? You need a three-month treatment plan to make it back. So, I don’t blame her for taking some time off. (Laughs)
Finn proposed to Anna with this impromptu-at-her feet-moment at the Nurses’ Ball. Did you like the proposal?
MICHAEL: The only thing that I would have done differently is that I originally thought she said no, just because I love playing uncomfortable, embarrassing moments. I would have had a lot of fun with that because being embarrassed in front of groups of people is something that I would like to play. I do that quite often in my own life. (Laughs) I didn’t watch it back, but in the moment, it felt really nice. She’s lovely. Who wouldn’t propose to her? So, there wasn’t a great deal of difficulty in doing that.

Photo: ABC
Do you sense the on-screen magic between Finn and Anna?
MICHAEL: I hope we both bring each other out of our comfort zones a little bit. I think Finola embraces that, and I embrace that. I think we both sort of pull each other a little bit. When the writers write it that way, especially early on, there was a lot of great dialogue and banter, it was like a very adult-type of movie for a while, and I really enjoy that. It is like Sullivan’s Travels or something like that. That’s a really dated reference. Who else do you know that is going to pull out a reference to Preston Sturges movies? (Laughs) How about Moonlighting? Even that might be dated now, but it’s closer. (Laughs) I think that’s it. She’ll go with it. Sometimes just in the flow of it, stuff comes out, and nothing goes by Finola. There is no ad-lib or gesture that you can make where she won’t go with you on it. She’s such a pro, and she is so good at that.

Photo: JPI
You’re both smart actors, in a way.
MICHAEL: She’s smart. She’s really smart. She’s extra smart, and I’m a little bit under, (laughs) and she balances us out.
Do you think Finn will finally help apprehend Cassandra? How is it when you get to work with Jessica Tuck?
MICHAEL: Yeah. I would imagine. I love Jessica. I think she is fantastic, and I always like when the “bad guy” doesn’t know they’re the bad guy. I know when I played Caleb on Port Charles; one of the things I liked about him was that he never thought he was the bad guy. I think that is always the right way to play a bad guy, and Jessica certainly doesn’t play it that way. She plays it like she is just really devious. She is lovely. I sort of look at it like a team, and anytime you lose good players, your team is not as good. So, anytime someone says something about someone coming back who is a really good actor, it’s great when they come back.

Photo: JPI
How does Finn feel now about his brother, Chase (Josh Swickard)? He just can’t seem to get himself to show his affection towards his younger brother.
MICHAEL: He does love him, and that’s right. That’s the conflict, but it’s hard to be mad at Josh because he is the sweetest kid. He looks at you with those big brown eyes, and you go, “Why am I being such a jerk to this guy? He’s just too nice, but it’s good. I think we’ve slowly developed a rapport, and it’s just one of those things that I think every so often, daytime gets right where you can almost tell something in real time. It wasn’t rushed. It’s taken a year, and they are sort of coming around to one another, but there are still a lot of secrets. That’s coming up.

Photo: ABC
Where would you rate Finn in the scope of your characters? I mean, for me, McBain will always be #1.
MICHAEL: Is McBain 1? (Laughs) You and Steve Burton (Jason, GH). I’ve never sat and ranked them. Obviously, I played McBain the longest, and it was probably the character who was the most like me I did ride-alongs with cops in New York City for like a month. So, I was able to ground him in some reality for myself, and I was able to stick to that. We had a great adviser on the show for over a year who was a former New York City detective, gold shield guy. Someone once asked why the police department was so good at One Life, and that was it. They really embraced it. We didn’t have people sneaking out of the jail-cell with a bobby pin picking the lock. (Laughs)
It was a bit grittier on One Life.
MICHAEL: I enjoyed that. McBain not saying “I love you” for 10 years, being on daytime and being able to do that – now that is quite the accomplishment!

Photo: JPI
I remember when McBain FINALLY told Natalie (Melissa Archer) “I love you.” I lost it, but then again, I am sucker for soapy goodness like that. It was a big moment.
MICHAEL: It was. Then, he had to kind of retract it and said, “I was drugged.”
Yeah right, he had that “What did I do?” moment.
MICHAEL: “What did I do?” That’s right. So, that was a challenge, and that was really interesting. Port Charles’ Caleb was probably the most fun to play because that was just an incredible amount of freedom. There was no grounding it in anything. It was the biggest sandbox I’d ever played in. If you wanted to walk over to the couch, you walked over to the couch. You did whatever you wanted to, and obviously, getting to work with the lovely Kelly Monaco (Ex-Livvie, Port Charles, now Sam, GH) every day… it was just nice. Caleb only had one intention. He was in love with this girl, and he just wanted to be with her, and anytime you get one specific need as an actor, it makes it so easy. You’ll stop at nothing to be with this girl, and that’s so fun to play.

Photo: ABC
Right, and Kelly Monaco and you have amazing chemistry when you have been paired romantically together in story.
MICHAEL: Yeah, I think those things exist in a special place, and they probably belong in that special place. Although, I thought it was an interesting dynamic for a period of time, it would have been interesting to see where that would have gone on GH with McBain, and Jason, and Sam, because there was something there that they could have built on very slowly. I don’t know what would have happened, but I think that dynamic was the only dynamic that could have worked for a period of time. I don’t think Fin would work, but that one dynamic would have been interesting when you have the cop, the outlaw, and the girl who comes between them.

One Life to Live recently would have celebrated its 51st anniversary if it was still on the air. Back in July, I posted these photos of major characters through the years. I received so many “likes” and so many comments on social media such as, “I miss it so much. Bring it back!” What can you say about those enduring One Life fans and being part of that one-of-a-kind show?
MICHAEL: They’re the most beautiful fans. All of the daytime fans are beautiful, but I think it was a really nice connection with the One Life to Live fans, and we got to know so many of them working in New York on the streets, you came out of the studio, and people were right there. So, you really got to know them. You got to engage with people. I love that show, and I miss it. Otherwise, I still stay in touch with a lot of them. I think that speaks to it. I have lifelong friends who I met on that show, which never happens. Usually, you walk out of a show on your last day, and you’ll never see anybody again. You’ll all say, “Yeah, let’s exchange numbers.” I walk out of there and I go, “Thank you, and I’ll never see you again.” I don’t even lie to people. Like, I know I’ll never see you again, and I never have except for that show, and I am still in touch with so many of those people. So, I think that spoke to how close we were.

Photo: JPI
Were you and Roger Howarth (Franco/Drew) always close on One Life, or are you closer now because you do all of the personal appearance events you do together?
MICHAEL: Well, Roger and I have known each other; it must be going on… 25-30 years now. So, it was pre-One Life. I think at some point we both had long hair, and both had done daytime, so we were pretty interchangeable. I think one time they called him about a part I did, and one time, they called me about a part when he left. I actually know Roger because I did a series called 413 Hope St., and Jesse Martin was the lead in it. It was a Damon Wayans series for Fox. So, I had known of Roger, but I really got to know him at a New Year’s Eve party in like 1995/96. Obviously, I’ve become really close to him now because we never did appearances or that sort of thing, but I think we have both sort of gotten over ourselves a little bit now. (Laughs)
Because you weren’t very visible before. That goes for both of you!
MICHAEL: No, and that’s by default. I don’t think we ever discussed it.

Photo: ABC
It wasn’t a conscious decision?
MICHAEL: No, I just thought (especially when I came back to daytime to do Caleb) it was just more interesting if people didn’t know a lot about me because the character was that. So, it took me a while to ease into it, and also, I just had to get over myself. I had a fear of engaging with large groups of people for a while. In a strange way, Roger and I have kind of gravitated to each other. I think we are both similar types. Between the two of us, we make up one real man, you know? Each of us is like half a man. (Laughs)
Together you can conquer.
MICHAEL: We are a good crutch for each other! He picks up my half, I pick up his. That’s the solution.
So what do you think GH viewers can look forward to coming up with Finn?
MICHAEL: I’m assuming at some point he is going to get his world turned upside down when he finds out about Hayden and the baby, and how he is going to react to that will probably be interesting. I hope that’s going to happen.

Photo: ABC
If he became an addict again, how would you feel about that?
MICHAEL: I think him struggling and getting over that would be interesting. I would hope that wouldn’t be his reaction, but I guess that always hangs over your head. Certainly, him falling apart would be interesting. I think your faith in the universe would be crushed in that moment. I don’t know how he would react. I’m just really curious to see how that would shake out and to play that. I think it would be a challenge. I think you’re always looking for some way to turn everything … and I invite that. I always think that sometimes in daytime we play the gimmick, but you should always play to the heart of the story. What’s going to make you feel something? If you feel something as the character, as the actor, I think the audience will feel something with you. I think it is maybe one of the things that we have gotten away from a little bit is that emotional attachment. When I watch shows that really move me, it’s still that emotional attachment between two people, and at the end of the day it should still be a love story … no matter what it is. I think that is the heart of what we should be doing. I think every poem should be a love poem of some sort. I know they have to weave the other stuff, the science fiction, and the memories, and the missing babies, and the twins, but at the heart of it, it should really be about two people finding themselves in love.
Are you working on graphic novels, movies?
MICHAEL: I’m always doing something, Michael. It keeps me balanced, and it keeps me from losing my mind.

Photo: JPI
Will you be producing and directing any new short films?
MICHAEL: Trevor St. John (Ex-Todd/Victor Lord Jr. OLTL) and I are always talking about doing a short film. Every time we drink too much beer, next thing you know, we are going to be doing a movie. We have many beers, and then we shoot a film. Then, we call our friends like Kamar de los Reyes (Ex-Antonio, OLTL), and Sherri Saum (Ex-Keri, OLTL), and Dan Gauthier (Ex-Kevin OLTL), and we go, “Now you guys, drink many beers, and you will join us on this film.”
See, now I get how movies are made!
So, are you hoping that GH tells more of the story between Finn and Hayden? Are you hoping that Anna and Finn make it to their “I do’s? What would you like to see happen to Finn? And finally, of all Michael’s soap roles which has been your favorite? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
I’ve been a fan of Michael’s going all the way back to DAYS. I love him as quirky & shy Dr Finn. GH will be idiots if they don’t capitalize on the return of Budig. GH has far too many needless characters (Peter, Sasha, Dev, Shiloh,Nelle, Jordan, Nina, Valentin,Kim etc..) that need to fix the pacing & tell stories about characters we’re invested in.
Michael has great chemistry with both Rebecca & Finola I also think GH is foolish not to have Finn & Franco become buds. Both need a male friend, both work at GH, Hayden is Franco’s sister-in-law not to mention Michael & Roger are a blast together.
What a terrific interview, thank you. I do wish, however, you asked him about his bromance with Tristan Rogers. Finn and Scorpio have an amazing bromantic chemistry and I think it’s clear they like working with each other. Speaking of chemistry, Hayden and Finn have such a strong, undeniable chemistry that it’s almost palpable. I think he’s sweet with Anna but watching Finn interact with her is like watching a nephew interact with his eccentric, dynamic British aunt. This is not about age as much as it is about the flavor of their dynamics. I said something similar about Anna and Duke (who are about the same age). Love Michael Easton–think he’s an underrated talent.
Couldn’t agree more with you about how Anna and Finn are like an aunt and nephew.
So agree with you Harry (of course!) re the bromance and and amazing chemistry between Finn and Scorpio–made even more delicious since they are sort of rivals for Anna’s affection. Tristan is simply one of a kind–and can play with anyone and make something out of it. We need to see much more of him on screen.
GH couples are Extremely boring.
they are empty of everything that makes for great soap couples.
The GH couples are horribly dull.
I could not agree more. Those that gush over the chemistry between Michael and Rebecca obviously never saw the fireworks between her and Josh Duhamel.
SuOOO,
You’ve piqued my curiosity. Which couples do you enjoy watching?
Hi Violet 🙂
I have no enjoyment from watching the couples.
They are extremely dull, they are so stale that they’ve grown mold.
They do zero that is intriguing or entertaining.
I see- almost all have forgotten how exciting, couples were in years past.
The cheating, betrayals, the cheering on of one or the other to find out of the dirty deeds and get even.
And- their life and death situations.
Those days are long gone..
the couples now are empty, totally empty.
]
Well, I am not SUOO, but I would imagine that her favorite coupling is Liver and Onions.
My wish if OLTL doesn’t return is for a hot hospital romance for Finn with a new doctor played by his fiery redhead Melissa Archer.
She can remind him of his beloved Reiko . He also needs to know his daughter . I would love to see him play those emotions out.
Truly, Finn and Anna I find lackluster. Anna needs to be with Robert. While Hayden may be a changed woman, I always feel that she’s looking for the next scam.
That would be wonderful. Be still my
Anna with Robert–yes! Chemistry so obvious–always been there. Remember when?
GH in its glory days?
Agreed. Anna and Robert are awesome!
I never cared for him with Melissa Archer. I loved McBain with Evangeline. Renee Elise Goldsberry, who’s now a Tony winner on Broadway) I don’t like him with Anna. Anna belongs with Robert. I like him well enough with Hayden.
I certainly agree about Archer. I saw absolutely nothing I liked about Jolie. Natalie was too immature and clingy with McBain. But, the chemistry meter was way up there with Goldsberry! Unfortunately, they flipped the script back to Natalie. I am so glad we will never have to see Jolie again and hopefully Archer stays away from GH. My vote will always go to Hayden and Finn. Give Anna to Robert and my word give Finn his little girl. Then see how Hayden and Finn will deal with things hoping ton the road to recovery, redemption and reconciliation. They evidently still love each other. I want to see the Finn Family that is supposed to be.
I agree with you that early Natalie was clingy and immature. Her love of McBain was obviously fierce and she was incredibly loyal and not afraid to verbalize her thoughts.
We got to see her mature as well as her relationship with McBain and I for one loved them. They were beautiful, hot and had amazing chemistry. The twins that portrayed Liam were awesomely cast and the Jolie family rocked. This pairing went through a lot and I was unhappy with what GH did when they made John a deadbeat dad and a cheater .
That was not McBain.
And while yes Michael Easton had chemistry with R. Goldsberry , the character of Evangeline had her insecurities as well and was always looking for proof of John’s love.
I respectfully disagree about Hayden. While she too has more chemistry with Finn than Anna , she is not that endearing a character. Great actress mind you. Finn and Anna are incredibly forced. True Anna needs to be with Robert.
I hope we do get to see Archer and Easton reunited somehow someway. They are missed indeed.
Here here. Very well said.
I am very disappointed in the way they brought Hayden back with Jax. Instead od bringing the child with her at the beginning and the summer being about Hayden anD Finn. And them going on a discovery mission about why things happened the way it did, dealing with Finn knowing he is a Dad. Finn and we must see that child. We have waited two years in eager ánticipation. I have not counted Hayden and Finn out, reconciling and working it out to become a couple again. They were so badly treated before by that abrupt, horrid exit story. GH can fix the mess they made. I adore Easton and Budig, Hayden and Finn. I hope that child and Hayden will shake things up with Anna and Finn. It is clear to me that Hayden and Finn still love each other. They have lots of unfinished business. Who knows maybe it will all lead to them being the Finn Family they are supposed to be. That is what I want to see, a second chance for them. GH come on you can do it!
Now he’ll be recurring after this. LOL. I’m just kidding. But you can tell he’s dissatisfied with the direction of the show. The writing in particular. If you’re even confounding you’re actors then something needs to change. You can’t keep writing from a “works for me” perspective. Does NO ONE remember Doug Marland’s rule? It’s on Wikipedia. Along with being objective and listening to the audience, don’t change a core character and…DRUM ROLL PLEASE…GOOD SOAP OPERA IS GOOD STORY TELLING!!!
Oh, the many faces of Michael Easton. What a treat watching this man do his magic. I hope he knows how much he is truly enjoyed and appreciated. While we know his choices aren’t really his own, please uncouple him from Anna, because as a match, they are not. He has more chemistry with Roxi!
I adore the interaction with his brother. So cute!
Yes Violet, I too believe his interaction with his brother is endearing. Thumbs down on Finn and Anna! Too forced and no organic chemistry.
Fave Michael Easton character? Dr. Finn.
I can’t wait for Hayden and Finn storyline to play out, I’m fine w/the pacing I figure they are taking their time till Finola comes back.
love his chemistry w/ both Hayden and Anna, so their I’m staying neutral.
I love his chemistry w/ his brother.
wish they would allow him to have a friendship with Alexis, I love their chemistry as friends.
they should put him together with Franco and make them pals. great idea (Denise A Daniel.) .
Michael and Finola are amazing together. The connection they have onscreen reminds me of Finola and Vincent Irizarry on AMC. I like Hayden but I think Budig being so much younger really shows in their pairing, they seem like siblings.
ROBERT and Anna are amazing together!
There is only a 6 year age difference between Budig and Easton, and an 8 year difference between Easton and Hughes which I think is much more obvious. In fact I don’t even see an age difference between Budig and Easton. They definitely gel better together and Easton seems much more natural onscreen with Budig
Agreed
Budig is in the same age bracket as Easton–what are you talking about? As I said before, Anna seems like Finn’s merry, eccentric and beloved aunt. There’s no sexual chemistry.
Spot on comments Harry!
Totally agree about the beloved aunt. I do not want Finn being a step dad to adult children nor a step grand daddy. Not when he has his own little girl that he must know. I explain it this way. Anna seems older because of those adult children. Finn needs his Hayden to spice him up. They were the perfect pair, the perfect ten and can be again!
Lest we forget, he was even more mismatched with the older yet Alexis! If Anna seems like a “beloved aunt,” then what the heck was that man-hungry hussy to Finn??? (Mrs. Robinson?)
I loved Michael since I was watching him as Tanner Scofield on DAYS. The man can act!!! However, I feel they are missing the boat not transforming him back into John McBain now that ABC has the rights back to those characters. I want Roger Howarth morphed back as Todd Manning. Yes, OLTL still lives on in me too.
He is so right about the need for emotional attachment and love stories. And he’s right: they’ve gotten away from that and as a result the stories are so much less satisfying.
As much as I enjoy seeing Michael on our screens I would say McBain will always be number 1 in my opinion.
His story and the love story with Natalie was great soap. It was a damn shame that GH took the liberty of destroying that. With the Prospect Park lawsuit there was never any resolution and we never got to see a Jolie reunion which is what would have happened. That being said, I also agree with Marianne. How wonderful would it be if an Archer and Easton reunion occurred. Those two are incredibly missed.
Michael Easton is very gracious about his acting partners. Yes Rebecca Budig and Finola Hughes are talented, however GH makes a decision regarding a pairing and forces these pairings until they can go no more. Case in point, Finn and Anna. It takes the whole town of Port Charles from Emma to Faison to prop them. Finn has more chemistry with Hayden but let’s face it, he’ll be crushed by this betrayal. I hope it does play out and it’s heart wrenching. Would much rather see Anna and Robert. Scorpio’s snark is the best.
So glad Michael is employed but let’s face it, unless you’re living in outer space you’ve got to know how much OLTL is missed and especially Natalie and John McBain. Effortless chemistry and believable kissing and love scenes. They’re missed incredibly.
I am neither a Hayden nor Anna fan for Finn but admit he has more chemistry with Hayden than Anna. Anna and Finn are so clearly agenda driven and forced.
Let’s be real. GH has bent over backwards to accommodate Michael Easton with multiple characters. Establishing him on the canvas with someone like Finola is ok temporarily. You can’t continually force and prop pairings though. Michael needs to shine in a hot romance. Anna nor Hayden provide that. I agree with prior posters. It is beyond time for Ms. Archer to reunite with Mr. Easton
Que the applause!
I wish you had asked him if we will ever see Roxie again. Fans on the board miss her a lot. Silly I know but she was a part of Finn’s character so why don’t we see him with her anymore ??
Excellent question……that service lizard was one of the few initially unique things about the quirky Finn character that was actually somewhat endearing, save for the fact that Michael Easton was portraying him! (Love the actor, but I’ve not warmed up to his latest character…especially the “addict aspect” of him!) Perhaps Roxie became too much of a diva with her on-set demands and thus, difficult to work with, so her contract was cancelled…or else she went to “lizard heaven” and nobody has wanted to break the news to Finn! Anything is possible in Hollywood! Lol…
Please free Anna from Finn. Let Hayden have him and move Anna on to someone else. We need the original OG Anna back, not this PodAnna. She has been turned into some groupie Stepford wife since being paired with this character. All she does is follow Finn around all day at the hospital telling him how wonderful is or how beautiful he is or telling anyone else that will listen the same thing. Meanwhile, he Never compliments her at all. She is always the one saying I love you first while he just says thank you or I’ll be waiting. He solves all her cases and is made to look incompetent so that he can come in and be the rationale one or the voice of reason. He tags along on investigations and sits in on interrogations. It’s like BizarroWorldAnna. Obviously these two characters just do NOT fit together and the actors really don’t have the natural chemistry to try and sell the bad writing.
Shelby, I agree with you!
Shelby, I agree with you, too!
Agree.
What a great interview! Let’s us get to know Michael on a more personal level. He truly shines through as being a honest and straightforward man. And I agree with everything that he said! Love this guy ❤
Tori, I agree with you! He always gives very intelligent interviews. How about getting back to the Chase/Finn/Daddy/Step mom story. Bring on the step mom and get to the heart of why Finn has such animosity about her. That is a story that seems to be dropped and it would give Finn a story without having to rely on a love interest. I am ecstatic to see Finn doing what he is supposed to be doing, more doctoring in the hospital. That is where he belongs, not tagging along with Anna on her cases.
Finn’s quirks are entertaining whenever they’re spotlighted. Make no mistake McBain would also breathe on eating utensils then wipe them off with his napkin. It’ll always be McBain for me! Easton’s legacy. Too bad GH did such a decimation of McBain’s character and family. It really bothers me to this day. They took the liberty of destroying it, they should fix it!
McBain is my number one. Miss him and Miss Natalie and Liam. GH should not have destroyed them. Every other pairing has paled in comparison.
Miss McBain, Natalie and Liam. GH should not have destroyed them. His subsequent pairings have paled in comparison.
I’m just hoping that something/someone comes along and ties up the many loose ends on GH. Too many story lines with no endings. Too many new and unused characters when there is a cast of amazing actors ready for more air time. I am one on the OLTL forever fans and when it was cancelled I felt that I lost my fictional family. This is something no other soap could ever do.
Have to say I enjoy Finn but absolutely loved McBain and his fiery redhead Natalie. Miss them a lot.
I loved Michael Easton as Caleb. I actually loved the entire arc with him and Kelly Monaco in Port Charles. I’m not really much of a soap fan because in general stories are so contrived and tired, but in this case though he played a vampire, I thought Michael’s characterization was extraordinary. I was entranced by the story of the struggle between darkness and light for all of the characters in Caleb’s orbit and it was really sad when the show ended! If it came back, I would watch in a heartbeat.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
