Is The Character Of Adam Newman Finally Coming Back To Y&R?

Over the last 36 hours, there has been plenty of buzz on the internet and social media that Adam Newman, the black sheep of the Newman clan, could be back on the canvas soon on the top-rated, The Young and the Restless.

What spurred the intrigue? A casting call went out that seems to match up with the characteristics of Adam, plus the soap is looking for an actor in this contract role who has to have, “significant experience in film or television.”

Former Y&R executive producer and head writer, Mal Young seemed to indicate that he had no plans to bring the character back, but with Josh Griffith back as the lead scribe, that could all very well have changed.

The show is said to be looking for: “an actor early 30’s to early 40’s, who is stunningly handsome and supremely confident. He also has obsessive ambition, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants.”

While the casting breakdown calls the character by another name, that is often customary on the soaps, especially in the casting of key roles.

In story, the character of Adam is believed to be dead, after blowing up in a cabin explosion following Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) knocking him out with a dart gun; in her revenge plot against him.   At the time, Adam was trying to flee Genoa City with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan).

Adam has been played by three actors:  Chris Engen, Miochael Muhney, and most recently by one of the stars of This Is Us, Justin Hartley.

So, do you think the description is Adam?  Which actor from primetime or daytime, do you think would make a great new Adam Newman?  Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Justin Hartley did a decent job of the role but for me its Muhney or nothing

I’m missing the drama at the Chancellor mansion more. I wish Josh Griffith would bring Jill back …..at least part time. It will never feel like Young and Restless again without that part of the show.

Jess Walton is all but retired.

Except, she isn’t.

Scott, they need the character on full time.

As much as I’d love Jill full-time, they actually don’t. However, I am sure that if the story came along, Walton would be more than willing to return in that capacity.

Of course they need to bring Adam back. He is the successor to Victor Newman (if you look at it as succession planning).

Yes. Nick is to weak!

Either bring back Michael Muhney or don’t bother!

Is that possible given the reason Michael Muhney was fired?

Exactly, Mary.

Yes, Adam is missing from the fabric of life in GC. When played masterfully, he is complex, multi-dimensional, charismatic and tortured. In two words, Michael Muhney. To me, he played every facet to perfection. He is compelling and in turn breathes life into Adam.

Tom Pelphrey. He would be beyond amazing.

That would be an interesting spin on Adam.

This is what I was hoping for when I first saw the stranger watching from the walls– just the kind of thing the character of Adam would do. Of course disappointed MM isn’t coming back, but the show needs the character, so whoever they find I hope he does the role justice.

If the character does come back I hope Josh will correct the mistake of having Adam being the hit and run driver of DeeDee–I hope it will be discovered it was someone else. I also hope this Adam will have chemistry with Sharon– I always like those two characters together. And I hope they don’t make him too nasty or too nice–but find the sweet zone just of enough of both for the character to really shine–

There are so many stories his character can inject– so I hope this is all true.

I agree with the hit and run incident. I never believed that Adam did it. Young and Restless blew the chance of straightening that out when it killed off the police officer years ago. The real reason could have been because he was paid to frame Adam. I believe that it was the time Jack had an evil double.

It sure sounds like Adam to me, and the audition tape I saw from one of the actors also sounded like the Adam character. Would this also mean bringing back Melissa Claire Egan? It all sounds good to me!

GOD YES FINALLY! But I have a feeling the secret about Christian being Adam’s is about to blow and Sharon will be caught in the middle! Fingers crossed!

That secret is already out. Where have you been.

Adam doesnt know though!

Ha ha.

I think you misunderstand what Richard is saying, A Clark. Christian is presumed to be Adam’s. The shock will be…..the child is really Nick’s.
I think Victor knows, but because of the dissension between him and Nick, Victor chose to stick it to his son, as it were.

I agree, Richard. I have always maintained that there have always been some blurred lines where Christian’s paternity is concerned. Nick is the father, afterall.

Michael Muhney! If the character comes back from the dead again, Michael Muhney is the actor to portray him. If they are planning yet another recast, LEAVE the Character of ADAM DEAD! I’ve heard rumor of Jacob Young possibly taking on the role, HE is and never will be a good Adam recast.

I know so many fans want M.M back, but I am afraid he, or others have burned that bridge behind him. Hope you are wrong about the Jacob Young rumour. He’s OK but not as Adam. I don’t know if the could be that egotistical, conniving, etc. that Adam is. Both M.M and Justin played him very well

Why bring in someone new when Michael Muhney wants to play Adam again. He is the only Adam as thousands of us believe and express this on SM, especially on Twitter and polls. Time for SONY and CBS to right a terrible wrong done to Michael Muhney. I guarantee you all those folks Y&R has lost will be back raising ratings through the roof!

Wasn’t Michael Muhney fired because of inappropriate behavior towards a woman/girl on the set? In the metoo era bringing a Michael back may not work.

That allegation about Michael was proven to be false. There is no reason why he should not be hired. In fact they interviewed him when they hired Justin Hartley. They hired him because they were going in a different direction with the character.

It was suppose to be Hunter King ; however, it wasn’t proven as fact or fiction because not a soul is talking.

You’re right to say there is plenty of buzz around the internet about this. Ppl can try and deny but there’s a huge majority that would love to see Michael Muhney back as Adam Newman. I too would love to see that happen. However, I am preparing myself if he does not return. I know there are many haters out there who hate MM and his fans. I politely ask for a cease fire. Whatever happens is meant to be. The show must go on. I’d also like to ask people to stop spreading the lies that have been going around for 5 years in regards to MM and a certain cast member. People need to do their research before spreading the lies. Let’s all be positive and hope for the best. I think fans need to put their differences aside and come together for the show’s sake. #YR #Muhney4Adam

The Young and the Restless Adam Newman Role held: June 25, 2009 – January 30, 2014

ie: Michael Muhney

it’s been 5 years… 5 YEARS

Fan vigil AND Fan base stronghold… have never let up

ARE the opportunities becoming few and far between , now?

any way : i’m so in agreement that for the better of the show… that CBS / Sony / Y&R simply must come together AND re-hire Mr. Michael Muhney.

PLEASE

Yes please bring back Michael Muhney as Adam

Absolutely ONLY the REAL Adam, Michael Muhney

Tom Pelphrey comes to mind but David Gregory from Oltl would be a nice wild card and the man is F-I-N-E.

When I think of Adam, I see the coward who hides behind women and babies. He doesn’t fit the handsome, confident and ambitious man description.
Anyways, Adam is overhyped & overrated. Y&R thrived for 40 years without him & certainly doesn’t need recast 4.0 in 9 years to survive. I’ll go as far as saying that throwing so many characters (Victor, Jack, Sharon, Nick, Ashley and Victoria) under the bus to promote him as the star of the show had a long lasting negative impact on the show.

I agree with you Cameron 100%…Y&R was for years extremely popular and great without Adam…

Oh please Victor was front & center when his son Adam was on,Jack took Adam under his wing as his own,Sharon had an affair and never stopped loving Adam,Nick couldn’t stand his half brother then towards the end started to see him as a brother,Ashley lost her baby due to Adam and Victoria felt threatened for her job at Newman over Adam. It’s time to put the hate away and bring Adam (Michael Muhney) back. If it’s not him then let him be dead.

Frances, I don’t at all have hate for Adam or the actors that portrayed them…I basically stopped watching Y&R in 2006/2007 when Kay Alden and a lot of the behind the scenes staff was let go and all the new writers/executive producers were brought in and Y&R no longer seemed like the classic wonderful show that I watched from the 70’s till 2006/2007…I would tune in every now and then after Adam was introduced but didn’t follow full time, so on that note the classic and beautiful Y&R that was wonderful from the 70’s till 2006/2007 survived without Adam’s character for all those years…I remember when Victor met Hope and when their storyline begin…Again, I have no negativity toward the character of Adam.

There is also rumor Robin Strasser heading to Days…would love her there as Lee who has a Dimera grown child of her own-this one a female!!!!…As for Adam too bad they couldnt get the actor who played Johnny on GH(4get his name at moment) but i think he is supposed to be on Days as the new Stefan…he was married to Kristen Storms in real life…but even if at Days i still think he’d be good as Adam!!!

Michael Muhney w/Sharon Case Period showstopper

I am in minority as I believe the Adam Newman character has been played out and, come on!, he’s been left for dead now twice. The return/resurrection of Adam, however, could pave the way for the return of the characters Kevin, Chloe & Bella, as well as Chelsea & Connor. I almost think it makes better sense for Dylan to return but it seems everyone, including his mother Nikki, has forgotten about him. Adam has stronger connection and presence. He never should have been written out as dead. Adam always seemed the heir apparent in tone to Victor, moreso than Nick.

I only hope whatever Mr. Griffith and team decide to do, it is done with conviction and long-term thought. There have been some solid starts and epic stumbles in the last 10 years. Let’s make this legacy program stronger and stronger!

I am right along with you lakovos…

Isnt Tyler christopher done at Days?
He d be a excellent Adam. He could pass for Victors son with his dark looks. He knows how to play evil.
Also, I always liked the original Chris Engen.Maybe he would return if the writing was better than the last time he left…

Yes, Damien….Tyler would be a perfect Adam….However, I’m not sure Stefan will be given his Extreme Unction, yet.
He is now a hero—-he graduated to such a lofty position when “ye gods” decided to have him save Chloe from the “bandito’s” clutches.
Stefan lives on…..his new love? Chloe—ta-da—introducing: a new storyline!!
I liked Chris Engen myself—yet, from what I’ve read, he refused to compromise his principles, by pretending to be gay, as a means to an end ( which was what the storyline entailed, at the time).

Jacob Young.

Jacob Young would be a great DYLAN recast and a reason to bring back Paul (his dad who’s been MIA)

Only if it’s Michael Muhney or Justin Hartley.

Hi, Frances,
Considering Hunter King is back ( perhaps indefinitely), I doubt Muhney will be recalled to resume the role…. On the other hand, Justin makes a lot of sense.

I think the Justin Ship has sailed.

Exactly. Why would he leave his new show, that is doing so well to go back to a precarious role on a soap? Kind of like sitting on a keg of dynamite.

You’re right, Mark. I just meant there would be no problem with TPTB if Justin were to ever return…..whereas, as much as I would love to see MM back, he would not be a welcomed entity!!

Bottom Line;
Adam and Michael Muhney are synonymous ..

IF, Adam will not be by Michael Muhney it will be a huge mistake.

Michael Muhney or NO Adam..
A recast of any other will Fail.

Seriously, they should have recast Adam after Justin left the series. I am thinking and I want Jeff Branson to play the role. He played the character of Ronan from 2008 to 2012 and since Ronan isn’t going to return to the show, maybe Branson can return to play Adam. Plus, he looks sort of like Justin! Not to mention that they can do flashback scenes with his reel.

It worked out well with Josh Taylor replacing Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady on Days of our lives and with Roger Howarth replacing James Franco as Franco, so why there should be a hard reason as to why Branson can’t play Adam!

What a great idea, Chadam!!….I love Jeff. I have been asking and wishing for his return forever!! But, I was so determined to have Ronan back, my mind rejected any other role for Jeff….but, I like it!!
I wish Michelle Stafford were able to return as Phyllis–this couple was on “fiyah”!!!! Jeff’s and Michelle’s ( Phyllis and Ronan) love-scenes seared the stage!!–
If Muhney cannot ( for whatever reason) return as Adam, then Branson would do “Adam” justice. I remember him from AMC, and how well he played the diabolical, tortured soul!!

I agree C!

Thank you, my love.
I am sorry I didn’t answer sooner. For some reason, I am not getting any notifications ….they have stopped!! I have to fish ( LOL) for any replies…..So, I apologize if I miss anyone.❤️

Michael Muhney should be brought back as Adam Newman.

Michael Muhney is the only Adam that was intriguing. He could express so much emotion with just a twitch of his mouth. Please bring him back!

I want Michael Muhney back as Adam..He was the best

Only Michael Muhney as Adam Newnan! Anyone else and the show is toast!! Does TPTB realize how many fans would return to Y&R if Michael Muhney returns? Staggering #’s!!

Muhney.Muhney.Muhney!!!!

I look at it like this: Justin Hartley is clearly way too busy with This Is Us. Chris Engen is obviously not interested in returning to Y&R. I would suggest Michael Muhney…except…Muhney obviously wouldn’t return to Y&R…not as long as that ONE-NOTE ICE PRINCESS Hunter King is still at Y&R. But…wait…an idea: PERMANENTLY PINK-SLIP Hunter King and her god-awful character Summer and PERMANENTLY put Michael Muhney back in the role of Adam Newman. Problem solved.

Later.

LOL, Jay…..agreed, my friend. But, Hunter is only one obstacle…..Eric Braeden had issues with MM, I believe?? Eric is King!!!!…between the two Kings, and the exiled Michael, who’d you think gets the royal treatment? Pardon the pun….❤️

Thank goodness someone pointed out that the issues with Michael Muhney go way beyond rumors about Hunter King. Not only Mr. Braeden but essentially every other senior cast member who worked with him said he was difficult. Heck, he himself said he was difficult. Not everyone is cut out for soap work. Not everyone is a good fit in every workplace. Do you really think you’d get a better show if all of the actors who define Y&R are uncomfortable or unhappy? And if you are really a fan of the show, why would you want them to be unhappy. It’s time to wish Mr Muhney well (he seen a to be doing Ok) and MOVE ON.

Celia…oh, yeah…I forgot about Eric Braeden…lol. My bad.

Later, my friend.

SUPER NEWS!

Amen Jayster!

I love Muhney he was my favorite Adam. I loved him and Sharon together. He just something very special about him. It’s going to be interesting how they bring Adam back with all the things he has done. O by the way I hope Paul Williams is back before Adam.

Zac Efron!!

Enough with the “Michael Muhney” or nothing posts! Muhney just doesn’t play well with others. He was fired for a reason. If the character comes back, this is the most important casting decision in years, because we need someone who can take over for Victor when Eric Braeden finally retires. The shows without him drag interminably. Big shoes to fill. But let’s bring in someone who keeps the drama on the screen.

NO Trevor St. John! Muhney please! He is the heir apparent to Eric Braden’s throne!

LOL, my T…. Trevor? Isn’t he kind of too old? How about John-Paul Lavoisier? Not ‘evil’ enough, maybe?

Is Branson Barash done at Days? He has that relationship with SONY now, and I could see him being great as Adam.

Brandon is what I meant obviously! Unfortunately, Grant Aleksander is too old for the part… he could have been great.

Yes!! Good one, Sonniorsolita…. there are plenty of choices.

Thank God for two things: Mal Young is out and Adam Newman is back in. Happy days are here again.
I’d love to see Michael Muhney return; however, if that’s not possible, I’m still thrilled to have Adam added back to the list of characters. He’s desperately needed.

Now let’s proceed to end “The Young & The Rosales’s”, please. Rey can stay, but the rest may be excused, thank you.

I agree about Rosales shoving them down our throats. This is why I quit watching YR and I’m a true long time fan. I’m 58 and our house was all CBS I was 12 when YR debuted.

Matt Cohen or Adam Gregory would be great for this.

If this is true I’m not a MM die hard fan like some other people. Yes, he was good but CBS will never hire him back. I really liked Justin’s Adam but we can’t have him so why not bring back Chris. I liked him as Adam he did great job introducing the character and setting up Adam’s demeanor. Michael & Justin followed suit.

Michale Muhney is Adam Newman, no one else.

The only person who should play Adam Newman is Michael Muhney otherwise they should find body or blood at the scene and leave him dead.

The place burned down, Frances. But, if he escaped the fire; you may be onto something. His remains could be somewhere in the woods.
Yet, I keep thinking that when Chelsea left with Connor ( completely forgetting she has another child; Johnny) she was on her way to be with Adam. Who knows, right?

CBS is dealing with “me too” issues right now so the idea of Michael Muhney coming back is a non starter. If Adam comes back it should be cast with either an unknown or someone who was in Primetime. The Adam character is desperately needed as Young and the Restless is so lifeless right now. None of the younger cast have that wow factor and the show needs a spark. When EB leaves I fear, the show is done.

TMZ.com’s horrible claims were unfounded; Muhney was fired for his overall behaviour. There was never any proof of those claims. And Braeden left once before, and, honestly, the show was not only fine, but it was ten-times better without him eating up scenes with his mumbling through scenes.

As Sony has never released the results of its investigation I don’t know how anyone can say the allegations were unfounded. I say this as a person who believes anyone accused during the me too era has a right to due process. I am just stating the obvious, the allegations are enough to ruin a life and a career. As for EB, I disagree, he is the Young and the Restless. His exit will signal the end of an era. The soap genre as we knew it will officially come to a close.

Except, Muhney was allowed to continue working when the so-called allegations came out, but only came out after it was announced he was fired; if, and I state again, IF he did those things, he would’ve been suspended by CBS/Sony Television immediately and not allowed to complete his portrayal of Adam Newman. And, it’s innocent until proven guilty, and he was never proven guilty, so therefore he is innocent.

Plus, considering he was in-talks to return as Adam before they went ahead and recast, I doubt the allegations were sound. Muhney has always stated he knew his firing was coming, due to his behaviour on-set (in acting as Adam off-screen), and others can coincide with those happens of events.

Haha. And, no. Eric Braeden is NOT the exit signal of soaps. He left in 2009 and the soap was not only fine, but it worked much better. And his absence this year was a welcomed change from his mumbling chewing up scenes. His behaviour on social media is disgusting, childish, libelous and borderlines on cyber bullying, and it is unacceptable. Anyone who supports it is equally as childish, disgusting and a cyber bully. Plus, there are plenty of other actors who hold more weight than he does, and have either left their soap or are currently on it, and the industry hasn’t collapsed into a dark abyss.

If he was fired for his overall behavior why would Sony take him back after a very successful recast. I know his fans don’t want to accept it but the Muhney ship has sailed. As for EB, of course his exit doesn’t mean the industry is dead although its on life support now. What it does means is that the soap industry as most of us have known it since the 1960’s will be over. Vaudeville, the Hollywood musical, westerns – all killed by their cost and changing tastes. The genre never really dies. It simply fades away.

Did I ever state that CBS/Sony were taking him back? No. I did not, so please don’t put words into my proverbial mouth.

No one, not one person came forward to accuse Muhney of doing that thing.
Summer never said a word of it,CBS never said a word Muhney was never found guilty of anything but trying to take Eric down/ fighting with Eric..

Muhney was said to becoming too big for his britches, so to say, causing trouble on the set..

Want better ratings for Young and Restless? Then hire none other than ROGER HOWARTH who plays Franco Baldwin on General Hospital as the new Adam Newman. He’s PERFECT for the role. AGAIN, I SAID PERFECT!!!!!! I bet other fans will agree with me. RIGHT?????
