J. Eddie Peck Returns to The Young and the Restless
Look who’s returning to The Young and the Restless? None other than J. Eddie Peck when he reprises his role of Cole Howard for the first time since 1999.
Look for Peck to first arrive back on the scene later this month. In story, look for Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) to have a surprise reunion with her ex-husband, Cole!
J. Eddie first took on the role back in 1993 and when Cole left Genoa City he took a professorship at Oxford University. During the character’s initial time on the show, Cole was a ranch hand and a novelist who fell in love with both Victoria (then played by Heather Tom) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson).

Cole is the son of the late Eve Howard (the late Margaret Mason), who originally thought Victor Newman fathered her son from an affair they had when she worked as his secretary, while he was married to his first wife, Julia Newman. Cole’s biological father was revealed to be Rick Daros.

So, looking forward to seeing how J. Eddie Peck’s return impacts the current story with the Newman family? Is his return related to Aunt Jordan and Claire’s conspiring to bring the Newmans down? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
Yay
I can’t imagine why he would be returning after all this time. Personally, I couldn’t stand his character so have no interest in seeing him again.
Aunt Jordan is his Mother Eve’s sister out for revenge now whether he is helping her who knows. Notice his picture is in front of the same door as CZ this could be a great story if JG does the history right .
I didn’t care for him then, nor this Peck guy now! Geeze, Victoria and Nicki both slept with him.
That was the bill bell recipe look at all the soaps he wrote for sisters hung up on the same man mom and daughter hung up on the same man /brothers hung up on the same woman it was his legacy from another word days young and restless bold on and on . I like Peck and I figured since he was at the 50th he might fit in for a short arc it sure beats this boring job changing crap they have had going on for months
Hooray
Aging like fine wine
Or old cheese?
I agree!!
This is unbelievable; Nikki was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over 10 years ago (a death sentence) MS has no cure..
there are treatments to help with the symptoms, but no cure..
Before the 10-year time, she would be having multiple treatments including hospital, and would now be disabled in a wheelchair..
So now, Nikki is a strong viral woman with no problems, sigh..
Soap or not..the writers decided to do an MS story to inform people of MS and totally failed to show the public what MN actually is…
What the h is wrong with people making light of MS..
No doubt we will see Nikki’s full strength fighting off her captors is ridiculous for an MS person who now would be disabled in a wheelchair fighting her inevitable death..
And stories like that are seriously Junk writing and shameful fun made of Actual multiple sclerosis sufferers.
Melody Scott Thomas was diagnosed in real life with MS. There is no issue with this story line. She is living her life with it.
I have friends with and are doing fine, there is several forms of MS
Melody Scott -Thomas WAS diagnosed with MS in 2013. Perhaps you should have a conversation with her
I was just looking up Melody’s MS. She was diagnosed in 2006 and started her own foundation in 2012 which provides financial assistance to others with MS.
MS affects every victim differently. I knew a man years ago who had a very debilitating form of MS and sadly, it took his life rather quickly. A close friend was diagnosed at age 28 with MS and has been living with it for about 30 years now. She has been through a lot, but still walks and drives. A woman I knew through church and had known for many years told me one day that she has MS. You wouldn’t know it to look at her. There are no outward signs. I hadn’t seen her in years and saw her earlier this year and you STILL wouldn’t know she has it.
Several people have reversed their MS. So, it’s not a death sentence.
Sorry but it looks like you didn’t do your homework to find out that Melody Thomas has been diagnosed in real life. Just remember this is just a show don’t take it so seriously I know a lot of people who have MS and they are doing just fine they have flare-ups but no reason to sit there and have to condemn people good grief it’s just a show
SuOOO
You are a little misinformed. A lot of people., from what I read lead full lives with little or no symptoms. If this is true in Melody’s case, she’s a very luck lady..
I don’t like how Victor talks to Victoria and Nick and treats Adam like a king. I love Victor but that’s my fault with him I do believe he has sat Victoria up in order to make Adam the CEO
I don’t like how any of them talks to Adam after he saved Faith life.
Don’t any of you get why Victor acts the way he does with his kids? He took care of Adam financially growing up but his mother Hope did not want or allow Victor and his lifestyle around the boy . After he grew up , finished college, came to Genoa City, he wanted everything he thought he was deprived of as a kid., especially his father’s love and attention, also to be part of Newman, rin the same capacity as Nick and Victoria, who actually didn’t have as much business education as he himself had .Victor, himself, has been eaten up with guilt because he wasn’t there for the “boy”, causing all this jealousy and resentment on all sides. Just trying to help sone people see why Victor acts the way he does towards Adam that makes the rest of the family, including Nicki resent him so much.
Right on, Violet. Both Nick and, especially, Victoria’s treatment of Adam is shameful. Granted, Adam has pulled some lulus but I can’t recall any that were particularly directed toward Miss Vicki. If Victor forgives, she should at least be civil. By the way, has she ever offered Adam any condolences on his child’s death? Seems a bit irrational to me.
Cole Howard is well related to Claire & taunt Jordan. My theory is that Claire is Victoria & Cole’s dead-at-birth daughter and taunt Jordan is Cole’s mother (Eve) or his aunt. I hope the writers don’t change Cole’s personality like they did with JT!
When Victor was name dropping all of Victoria’s exes — three of whom are dead — I got the sense that one of them was going to pop back up. Didn’t figure it’d be Cole though!
Only one ex of Victoria’s is dead. Billy and JT are still alive
Can’t anything be a surprise anymore like the old days?
I am not liking the writers script of what is happening to Nikki on The Young and The Restless. Not at all.
I don’t either. Nikki hasn’t done anything.
I don’t either. I hated the alcohol drip scene, I knew that was coming a mile away.
Two things I hope for with this story is that Melody Thomas does an Emmy Award winning performance, and that the story doesn’t drag out.
Rick Daros is not Cole’s father. Someone came to Eve’s funeral in 1993 and told Victor that he had been in love with Eve for years. Eve met Rick at a mental hospital in 1984 and escaped with him. Cole (“Charles”) had been on the show as a kid 1980-81, recurring bit part, when Eve was Jill’s roommate in the old Foster house. Another website insisted that Rick had tried to kill Nikki when she was pregnant with Victoria, but she was 2 years old when that happened.
Why was he disliked on all my children I read once he pronounced a character’s name wrong and it confused the audience but I never watched amc so I don’t know what they meant. I can’t remember the characters name but he said he was from new Orleans or something and that is how it’s pronounced.
Whaaaaaaattt? Cole returning to YR. Geez nez, next thing you’ll know Ryan McNeil would come back from the dead (One of Victoria and Nina’s exes). Let’s not forget Tricia Dennison or Megan Dennison coming back LOL Tricia was one of Ryan’s exes.
Looking forward to the return of J. Eddie Peck – this should be a hopefully good storyline! Victoria sure has suffered with her loves over the years!
Recall the name “Cole.” That’s it! Get a bit of a headache reading this. Will wait and see what the writer’s do. Maintaining a clean history must be quite a challenge.
Days Of Our Lives
‘Days of Our Lives’ Eric Martsolf Recalls Moment He Learned He Was Cast as Brady Black, and Last Scenes with Drake Hogestyn ( SOAPY Exclusive Preview)
Daytime Emmy winner, Eric Martsolf talks about how he learned he was cast as Brady Black on Days of Our Lives after he was out of a job following the end of his run of Passions’ Ethan Crane when the NBC soap was canceled and shared what it meant to play the on-screen son of the late Drake Hogestyn in a special moment he recalled after Drake was in the throes of chemotherapy following his pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
The heartfelt moment will be seen on Tuesday’s all-new episode of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart when Eric is their very special guest. Ahead of the premiere of their conversation, Michael Fairman TV is giving you an exclusive preview with two clips from their chat.
First, Eric recounted how he and his wife Lisa had recently just twin boys, had just bought house and did not know if he would find a way quick enough to support the family. He had already learned the part he read for at Days of Our Lives, he didn’t get. However, little did he know, that he was about to instead become the recast Brady Black, previously played by Kyle Lowder.

THE CALL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
“I had my kids in their double-stroller in Porter Ranch, wondering how I’m going to pay for this house? Marnie Saitta (casting director, Days of Our Lives) calls me up, ‘Eric, can you get your butt to the studio right now?’ I’m like, ‘Why? I didn’t get the job.’ She’s like, ‘Well, maybe you got a job. They want you for Brady Black. They want to bring back this character. He’s been off the canvas for about three years.’ I said, ‘Marnie, Oh, my God! That is such great news. I have my kids, and my wife’s out of town.’ She’s like, ‘Bring your kids. Drop ’em off at my office!’ I dropped him off at her office, went and met with Gary Tomlin, and he said, ‘You’re Brady now. Here’s your backstory. Welcome to the show.'”
“I went back to Marnie’s and I knocked on the door and they’re my kids. One has the Apple remote in his hand or whatever hitting it against the desk, the other one’s playing with the keyboard. She says, ‘Congratulations, get your kids out of my office now.” I was like, ‘I’m so sorry. I love you. Just send me the bill for the damage. Eventually, my wife Lisa came home and I said, ‘I’m on Days now.’ We cried and we hugged, and I’ve been with days ever since.
THE HEARTBREAKING MOMENT WITH DRAKE HOGESTYN
The Days of Our Lives family lost one of its most beloved members when Drake Hogestyn who played John Black for 38 years passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 28, 2024. It wasn’t until June of 2025, that DAYS viewers saw the story play out where John succumbed to internal injuries sustained in an explosion saving the experimental serum to bring Bo Brady back to life. It was John’s final mission.
During his visit to Soapy, Eric Martsolf was asked to share one of his greatest memories of working with Drake as his TV son. In an emotional moment, Martsolf recalled trying to tape a scene with Drake when he clearly was feeling the effects of the chemotherapy he was undergoing at the time, while he tried to soldier on as Drake was known to do.

Photo: JPI
“Not to get too sentimental, but I think it was one of the last scenes we did together. We were in the interrogation room at the Salem PD. John is talking to Brady about something and he had to stop tape because he was on chemo and he would have to excuse himself from the set, come back, gather himself, and just go right back into the scene. You could tell he was really struggling. He didn’t talk to me much about what was going on. I heard through the grapevine what was wrong with him. I just looked at him and I went, ‘How you doing?’ We had a five minute break, and he said, ‘I’m just on a journey. It’s going to be good. It’s going to be fine.’ That just broke my heart. He still wanted to keep telling the story even though his body wasn’t letting him. Drake never complained, never bitched.”
Eric continued, “My memory of Drake is just a man of fortitude, and a man that was a storyteller till the end that just wanted to keep doing his job. He gave Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of Our Lives) his blessing to film John Black’s funeral while he was still on this planet. Ken said to him, ‘Are you sure?’ Drake was like, ‘Tell the story.’ That’s a man. That’s a guy who is dedicated to what he had been doing for the last 40, 50 years.”
Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart features lively, nostalgic conversations with beloved past and present stars and creatives from across the entire soap opera community and all networks and platforms, including daytime and primetime. Whether a lifelong fan or discovering the genre for the first time, the series shares that it “offers a fresh, fun behind-the-scenes look at the stories – and storytellers – that define daytime drama.”

‘General Hospital’s’ Controversial Luke and Laura Rape Episode: Writer Sheri Anderson Reveals Behind the Scenes Decisions and Admits ‘I Was Wrong’ to Defend It (Exclusive)
It’s one of the most controversial storylines in soap opera history, when Luke (the late Anthony Geary) raped Laura (Genie Francis) back in an episode that aired in 1979. In the story, one fateful night while believing his latest assignment for the mob would get him killed, Luke drank heavily, and confessed his love to Laura. She had been working at the disco at the time and tried to comfort him.
Luke said, “I’m not going to die without holding you in my arms just one time. Dance with me.” As Herb Alpert’s “Rise,” played in the background, Laura tried to leave as she was getting fearful of Luke. The camera panned away as Luke forced himself on her and Laura screamed, “No!” The aftermath also became a huge problem for the series years later. GH tried to pass it off as a seduction, while viewer outcry, and as the world evolved over the decades called it then and now what it was, “rape.”
The script writer for that episode was prolific soap opera writer and three-time Emmy winner, Sheri Anderson. The popular scribe is best-known for her work on Days of Our Lives and also her tenure as its co-head writer, but she also spent a few years at General Hospital smack dab in the late 70s and early 80s, under then legendary executive producer, Gloria Monty.

During her visit last week to the Michael Fairman Channel, where Anderson opened up about a specific moments throughout her storied writing career, as well as the state of the soaps now in our culture, she recalled the events that transpired before and after that led to her scripting the infamous rape episode on GH.
ABC NETWORK EXEC DECIDES LUKE SHOULD RAPE LAURA
Sheri began, “What happened was Pat Falken Smith (then head writer, GH) came in from a meeting and she was stoned-faced, and we said, ‘What’s going on?’ She said Jackie Smith, who was head of the network, wants Luke to rape Laura and we were like, ‘What? We can’t do that!” She said that’s what we were going to so, because we were exploring ‘date rape’ at the time.”
“So, on General Hospital, or any show that I’ve been involved with, we would get as much research as we could on the subject, especially when I was writing,” explained Anderson. “I would always send the script to a therapist and say, ‘is this accurate? Is this emotionally correct?'”
Anderson shared from the writers viewpoint what the story was about at that time: “Luke was from the wrong side of the tracks. He was trying to prove himself to the mob and they said to prove it, you have to go kill a senator Mitch Williams. Luke couldn’t go through with it, which meant he was a dead man. He went back to the Campus Disco which he owned and Laura was there. She was waiting for her husband (Scotty Baldwin). So, when Laura was trying to comfort Luke, things started to get out of control.”
THE COINED “SEDUCTION”
“The script which I wrote was 110 pages, which was typical at the time. Gloria Monty, who was a brilliant executive producer and director who changed daytime, was the director of that episode,” explained Anderson on the writing for the soap back in the late 70s. “They probably cut 30 pages of material, because she was so intent on the rape and making it as brutal as she could. So, we were just going forward and thinking, ‘Oh, my God! That was really awful.'”
Over decades, the moment was called as aforementioned, “a seduction,” a “date rape,” and then as GH viewers recalled, it was in 1998 that Luke admitted to his son Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) that he actually raped his mother, Laura.

ANDERSON COULD NO LONGER DEFEND THE STORY POINT
It is not lost on Anderson, how GH at the time, tried to pass off the on-screen incident, “In retrospect, and I believe Michelle Val Jean (creator, head-writer, executive producer of Beyond the Gates) once said that it upset her, that we would say it was really a ‘seduction’ and all of those things, because it was not. It was rape, and (back then) I would try to, in a sense, defend it, and frankly, I was wrong,” revealed Sheri.
“I wrote the rape episode and I actually wrote the episode after it and we had Emily McLaughlin who played nurse Jessie Brewer who came to me later and said, ‘thank you.’ Because she said, ‘I wrote the aftermath of it so poignantly for her and Genie,’ recalled Sheri. “Then, we had Irene Kassorla, the real-life therapist come in, and on the show do group therapy sessions. So, it was really fascinating for me I thought that we were doing it extremely well, and I still think we did it extremely well. But, yes, it was rape, and it was wrong.”

GLORIA MONTY SWORE SHE WOULD NEVER MARRY LUKE AND LAURA
In an ironic twist, when Pat Falken Smith and Sheri left General Hospital to return to Days of Our Lives, suddenly Luke and Laura were getting married, after Gloria Monty swore she would never let them tie the knot. As soap fans know, the wedding remains the most-watched episode in soap opera in history with over 30 million people tuning-in on November 16 and 17 of 1981.
“People talk about that story thinking Luke raped Laura, and then they got married. No! Luke raped Laura, but it destroyed their lives with the secrets that they carried. Laura would not tell anybody that Luke was the one who raped her, and their lives were altered in so many ways. It took a long time to bring them back as a couple because they had such chemistry personally, so it was just the obvious way to go,” explained Anderson of the writers mindset at the time. “Gloria Monty said to us, ‘We’ll never marry them.’ Then, when as a writing team we left and went to Days of Our Lives, she married them two months later.”
You can catch our full informative chat with Sheri Anderson below.
So, what did you think about what really went on behind the scenes at General Hospital when the decision came down to have Luke rape Laura in the controversial scenes? Did you appreciate the insight provided by Sheri? Is it still one of the more troubling plot points in the storied history of Luke and Laura to you? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Brad Bell and Oliver Bell Already Prepping ‘Hollywood Starlet’ Season 2 With Goal to Elevate Verticals from Trope of Degrading Women
News out of Monaco and the 65th annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer) and his son, Oliver Bell, who have formed the microdrama company, Red Flair Entertainment, revealed on Sunday that they are already gearing up for season two of their just announced first foray into verticals, Hollywood Starlet.

‘HOLLYWOOD STARLET’ WILL TELL STORY OF POWERFUL WOMEN AND FAMILY STORIES
While at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, the Bells spoke on their new venture, with Oliver making it clear that what they didn’t like about the current state of most verticals are that they often tells stories which demean women, which harkens back to to China, were the microdrama was born.
Oliver explained, “I was watching ReelShort and a lot of these Chinese dramas, which I thought were very captivating. But then you’d see some parts that were degrading to women. For me, that was a little offensive. I thought we could do an American one where we have powerful women and lovely family stories. I felt like that wasn’t being seen.”

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL IN MONTE CARLO
While viewer should not expect any crossovers at this time with The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, Brad and Olive plan are to have their vertical series capture the spirit of those shows, in turn, swerving some less savory elements in the microdrama genre.
In addition, it was revealed as expected that stars of The Bold and the Beautiful who are making a public appearance at the festival: Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), Thorsten Kaye (Ridge), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), Tanner Novlan (Finn) and Kimberlin Brown (Sheila) are also in town for a remote shoot that will air most likely later this summer on the CBS soap opera.
So, looks like Brad and Oliver Bell have put a fast track on Hollywood Startlet seasons 1 and 2, and another B&B remote is on the way. Intrigued by the microdrama? Looking forward to seeing what befalls Brooke, Ridge, Steffy, Finn and Sheila in story while in Monte Carlo? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
