Fantastic news this afternoon out of Salem! Soap Opera Digest is reporting that James Scott (EJ Dimera) has reached a deal with the powers-that-be at Days of our Lives and has signed a new deal to stay with the show for another year till April 2013!

This should come as great news to James’s fans who were concerned that the popular actor might decide to bolt, when for many, he is one of the main reasons they tune-in to DAYS. We are glad to hear that Salem will have mayoral candidate, EJ Dimera and James along for some time to come!

He isn’t the reason I tune into Days, but he is a good enough actor & I’m sure his fans are happy!

Thanks Michael! James is the one and the only reason. He’s the real deal, Is totally hot, gorgeous, talented and he has got amazing skills as an actor. He has got the whole package! Glad to hear James is staying looking forward to it.

So true sara! “Pretty boys” in soaps are a dime a dozen but with James Scott we get the breath-takingly handsome looks and exceptional talent! That my friends would qualify JAMES SCOTT as THE TOTAL PACKAGE!

I don’t like EJ. At all. But his leaving would have derailed the new writers’ plans. I think James will leave for good in April 2013, and he should—EJ is a terrible character and has overstayed his welcome. It sickens me that THIS is what happened to Susan Banks’ son. 🙁

Fantastic news!!! James Scott is the reason I started watching Days again in 2007 after a 10 year break from the show!!! James has taken material written for EJ that would have desroyed the character had he been portrayed by a lesser actor. James is special and I hope tptb at DOOL, NBC and Sony realize just how much and make sure EJ gets a well written and compelling story. TEAM EJAMES!!!!!! 🙂

He is the reason I tune in. James’ performances made these past two years worth watching. He is a talented actor, a handsome man, and a true gentleman. I’m so glad Days realized his value. They didn’t need to lose one of their most popular actors when they are struggling to address the shambles the last creative team left the show in.

I am so happy to hear this news. I just hope the contract is a good one for James. The new writers will now get a chance to show how EJ could be written well. That would be a pleasant change.

This is great news!

James Scott is an outstanding actor and an important asset at Days. He has been one of the few consistently excellent performers through some of the worst writing and nonsensical storylines I’ve ever seen on this show. Also, he has turned a character who was probably intended to be a one-dimensional villain into a multi-dimensional character of great depth who evokes a range of emotions in the viewer and always engages us in EJ’s story. It is clear that James never rests on his laurels and that, as the consumate professional that he is, works very hard to constantly improve himself as an actor and provide us, the viewers, with a glimpse at yet another aspect of EJ’s character. Now that is compelling, character-driven television.

I am pleased that TPTB at Days realize that James portrayal of EJ is such an asset to the show and that James has so many fans who tune in to Days in whole or in part because he brings something to the show that no one else can. I’m looking forward to exciting, compelling, and original storylines for James to bring us more of this great character in the future.

Thank you.

I am so happy James is stay at Days. He’s one of the best they have and an very talented actor. I’m looking forward to more EJ and James on Days. Now, I want good storytelling and good writing for James. James is my reason for watching Days!!

It’s too bad. I was so hoping he would finally be let go. Since this show started revolving around EJ it has been awful, and driven hundreds of thousands of viewers away. If he must stay, I hope he will be seriously backburner-ed and used minimally. I stopped watching the show when I could no longer stand him being on EVERY SINGLE DAY. I was hoping to come back to the show for the re-set, but if the new writers continue to overuse this overrated actor and TERRIBLE character, I won’t be able to come back completely, even for my returning favorites.

The show was bad for reasons other than James Scott. Sara Bibel credited him with saving the show. And his two nominations for Best Actor contradict your assessment of his acting ability. I doubt the show will miss your lack of viewership.

Fantastic news! Hoping the new writers can bring this character back to what it should be so that a wonderful EJ and Sami romance can be written.

WATCH: ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Cold Open: ‘Days of our Impeachment’

In a week that saw Days of our Lives make the mainstream news media, Saturday Night Live decided to spoof the current President Trump impeachment hearings and turn them into its own amped up soap opera, with special guest star, Jon Hamm.  The hearings are also currently upsetting many a soap fan its pre-emptions of their network daytime dramas.

In the SNL cold open; Mad Men alum Jon Hamm took on the role of  former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bill Taylor.  Kate McKinnon reprised her portrayal of President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, while Heidi Gardner played a fainting soapy impeachment hearing attendee.

Meanwhile, SNL’s Alex Moffat played House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff and Mikey Day served as “cross-examiner” Republican Rep. Jim Jordan.  Cecily Strong took on the role of former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and Pete Davidson portrayed  attorney Michael Avenatti.  Then, Kenan Thompson stopped by as  suspended NFL player Myles Garrett and Melissa Villaseñor played “telenovela sensation,” Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

As “AOC”, Melissa says: “This hearing is lacking one thing — a star!” . She then let her hair down and makes out with Taylor played by Hamm.

DAYS Brock Kelly and Y&R’s Donny Boaz Make Debuts: What Were Your First Impressions?

This week saw the arrival on the soap scene of two characters who look to figure heavily into story in the towns of Salem and Genoa City.  First, over at Days of our Lives during their first week of episodes with their time-jump, Brock Kelly appeared in his first scenes as Evan, the manny, to little David.

On DAYS, Evan looks to being taking an interest in a grieving and distraught Sonny (Freddie Smith), who is dealing with the anniversary of his mother’s death and that his husband, Will (Chandler Massey) is in prison for the crime that killed her (whatever that is has yet to be revealed).

For Brock Kelly this is not his first time on DAYS, having last been on the show back in 2005 as Abigail’s (then played by Ashley Benson) first boyfriend, Josh.

Over at Y&R, the much talked about Chance Chancellor finally arrived in Genoa City, and already had a confrontation with Cane (Daniel Goddard), helped save the day in a hostage crisis, and more.

Actor Donny Boaz has already mixed things up with many a resident of the town and shared scenes with Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Mark Grossman (Adam), and more.  This is Boaz’s first daytime soap.  The last time Chance was in Genoa City he was played by John Driscoll.

Melissa Reeves Talks On DAYS Time-Jump; Paul Telfer & Eric Martsolf Chat Between Their Scenes On ‘Inside Salem’ Podcast

On the latest episode of NBC’s Inside Salem: Days of our Lives Podcast, the special guest is enduring DAYS star, Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), who found herself as the catalyst for the year time-jump and flash-forward that fans are now watching play out on the daytime drama series.

Last week, Jennifer was pushed off a balcony following her wedding to Jack by Princess Gina.  And on last Friday’s cliffhanger, Jennifer woke up out of a coma to learn from Jack that she has been asleep for a year.

Now with a year having passed in Salem, Jennifer learns bits of information of what has happened to her loved ones.  Meanwhile, Eve is in lock-up for the crime against Jennifer, and it appears Jennifer cannot put the pieces together of who pushed her on that fateful night to clear Eve.

In addition during the podcast, Melissa chats with host Michael Fairman on the passing of John Clarke (Ex-Mickey), and being one of the core characters tied to the legacy of the Hortons – the first family of Salem.

As to the initial reaction to the time-jump, Melissa reveals that the entire cast was very excited, but all the pressure of the attention to detail was discussed with make-up, hair, and in the writing and production.

Later, Paul Telfer and Eric Martsolf have a little hang out discussion in between scenes, that is often hilarious when you can imagine getting Xander and Brady, and their real-life portrayers, Paul and Eric, in the same room in front of a microphone.
