Over the weekend, Ryan Murphy dropped an exciting casting bombshell to those attending Saturday night’s PaleyFest panel in Los Angeles on his FX series, Pose.  Murphy disclosed to the audience, that he has a “diva update”.   With that, Murphy announced that 2-time Tony and Daytime Emmy winner, Judith Light (ex-Karen, One Life to Live) and the legendary Bette Midler have signed on and joined his stellar cast for his new Netflix series, The Politician.

Their roles are still undisclosed, but they will join Tony Award winner, Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen)  who plays the leading role,, and other Murphy favorites  Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange.   The show will premiere on September 27th,

Light has previously worked with Murphy on last year’s American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, in which she received a Primetime Emmy nomination.

The Politician stars Platt as Payton Hobart, a wealthy student vying for Student Body President at elite private school Saint Sebastian High School.  The loglines for the series read: “To get elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image. Full of dark comedy and sly satire, Ryan Murphy’s The Politician offers a rare glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.”

Midler tweeted when it was revealed she was part of the series: “ gave the “Diva Update” last night…Yes, Judith Light and I have joined the fantastic cast of “The Politician” premiering on Netflix Sept 27. Great writing, great fun and great insight! See you on TV!!”

Deserving of everything that comes her way. She is respectful of her role on a soap opera–enough said. That fact tells me all I need to know about Judith’s work ethic, her professionalism, her gratitude for all roles, her humility. She is the consummate actor, and, more than that, she is the ultimate realist: giving all her skills to ANY role she plays and glad to do so. Go, Judith!

I love Judith Light, she is a wonderful actress. She is a sassy, classy lady. Judith is a nice looking lady, she is 70 years old, hard to believe.

A timely melding of politics and the college scandal…and add Ms. Judith Light. From the day the announcer said, “The part of Karen Wolek will now be played by Judith Light” she has been a beacon in anything she’s tackled and graced. #LoveLightthatisJudith

Tyra Banks Exiting ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Yesterday, Tyra Banks dropped a bombshell when speaking with a reporter from TMZ, while out for a stroll.

Banks shared that she’s not going to be returning as host of Dancing with the Stars, and has decided to focus on the business and entrepreneurial side of her career, plus producing behind the scenes entertainment projects.

This morning on Friday, Banks confirmed the news to Deadline.

Tyra had joined DTWTS in season 29 when she replaced longtime host, Tom Bergeron. She also became an executive producer of the reality-ballroom dance competition.

Last season, DWTS streamed exclusively on Disney Plus, and was taken off the ABC network.  During the last season, Tyra co-hosted the show with Alfonso Ribeiro, although she still presided over the ballroom competition.

Thus far, there has been no news of the next season of the series, although it’s expected to return.  In addition to Banks, dancer Mark Ballas along with the previously announced departure of dancer Cheryl Burke, leave the show with some shoes to fill.
