General Hospital
Mykel Shannon Jenkins Returns to General Hospital in New Role
General Hospital’s Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) is getting a therapist, a physical therapist that is, when Mykel Shannon Jenkins takes on the role of Roy. Soap Opera Digest revealed the casting news.
Jenkins should look very familiar to GH fans. The actor won the first season of SOAPNet’s I Wanna Be a Soap Star in 2004 and because of it, he won a role on the ABC daytime drama series as police officer, Byron Murphy. Later, Mykel appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful as officer Charlie Baker, the son of Lieutenant Baker played by Dan Martin.
Since Port Charles’ Curtis has been downtrodden over his current condition where he is wheelchair bound and can’t walk … might Roy, the physical therapist, be the guy to give him the push to reclaim his life and treat the people who love him better? We have already seen Curtis try to push away his daughter, Trina (Tabyana Ali) and his wife, Portia (Brook Kerr).

Photo: ABC
Meanwhile Jenkins has been in demand. Back in April, he signed on to join the cast of the motion picture action-thriller, Gunner starring Luke Hemsworth, Morgan Freeman and Joseph Baena. According to Deadline: “Gunner follows Special Ops veteran Lee Gunner (Hemsworth) as he takes his two sons (DeWolfe, Feely) on a fishing trip to reconnect. The trip soon turns awry when the boys stumble upon a massive drug running operation and are kidnapped by Dobbs (Jenkins), the son of gang kingpin Kendric Ryker (Freeman) who runs his organization from prison.”
So, do you think Roy will give a kick-in-the-pants to Curtis to stop wallowing in self-pity and battle back to try to walk again or adjust to his life if he can’t? Comment below.
I hope he kicks him in the butt…
I think he is going to make him mad and push himself to get better
Yes he needs that kick
I believe that Jordan will be attracted to the physical therapist. This will crush Curtis’ spirit.
I can only hope that Jordan is attracted to someone else. Can’t stand her with Curtis
Too bad GH is still lagging behind in diversity casting. I guess there were no Asian, Latino, or Native American performers available, among others.
Soaphound,
Maybe the group you mention just aren’t interested in Soaps.Personally, I love Latino men, so many over the years and too many to mention, one of my favorites Carlos Montalban, oh my, be still my heart.
If you listen to the podcast of Bernard you would know that he is not Italian he is Hispanic
Not sure who you meant your reply to. This new format still confuses me, sorry! He is actually of Nicaraguan descent. I’m not sure where you got the idea of Italian, don’t think it was mentioned anywhere.
The character of Sonny Corinthos is often taken as “Italian”, mostly due to his occupation, and the fact that he allegedly makes the best Marinara sauce on the East Coast.
Of course the name “Corinthos” is very Greek. And Mike, his father had previously claimed to be of Greek & Irish origins. His mother Adela never appeared on screen (apart from created childhood “flashbacks”) but she was definitely Latina… probably Cuban, if my Fuzzy Devil Memory remembers correctly..
In either case, neither the actor nor the character was ever Italian. Just the conclusion some mortals jump to because of the mob stereotype, probably.
On the other horn, the Zaccharas were an Italian mob family, but all of the actors who played them were Jewish. Guess the casting folks thought one side of the Mediterranean was close enough to the other.
Satan,
Thanks for all the info, some known and some not. I only knew Johnny and his lousy father.I ‘m of the few who like Sonny and even now watching him I think of Desi Arnaz and understand why he played him so well. Being half Italian, I’ve heard a lot about the mob and even had relatives that were members in NY and Italy. Just stating facts not bragging .Not knowing any personally, I have nothing to compare Sonny to, but like him anyway and apologize to any one that offends.Always seemed like a Robinhood type to me.o.k stop laughing.
Violet,
You’re forgetting about the preposterous rewrite that made Anthony Johnny’s grandfather.
True,
I keep thinking Anthony was Johnny’s father.
I will always love Sonny C. He is the most loyal family man on GH. In spite of the verbal abuse heaped upon him by his son, Michael, he still respects his right to speak up and still loves him. I know Sonny has many faults but he has compassion in his heart even for enemies at times.
They still are in front for addressing today’s issues AIDS gays transsexuals and all the difficulties going with that. Not to mention bipolarism. And alcohol addiction.
You wrong the Gambler boss ,& Gay her Son?
There is Spanish also maybe they look white the Casdian!
Soaphound, I hear you. Diversity across the board is needed but I think a better question to ask is were there no Asian, Latino, Native American etc. available for the casting of Betty, Nurse Jackie, Dr. Montague, Andrea Gates or any of the several roles that pop-up all the time that are cast by non-minorities? Why don’t we comment on those castings? Or are those choices ok because that’s the way it’s always been?
Why do general hospital have so many open stories
Could it be due to the writers strike (?)
If a story’s main writer isn’t writing, perhaps it is out of respect to let them finish it back when they themselves come back (?)
How about for Trina . Trina and Spencer have no spark.
I totally agree. Get a new actress for Trina…she doesn’t have the spirit of Trina we got use to.
I have been saying that since they recasted the role of Trina. There is no chemistry in this couple. Whoever casted the new Trina and thought that this would be a good couple should be fired. Not believable at all.
Totally 3
The Curtis story is a snoozer and I could care less what happens to him…
the character use to be good but eeehhh now he sucks..,,, Its simply another pity party..
Didn’t he use to be a heavy police guy that actually made him watchable, he had good stuff going a long time ago, but now eeehhh….He should take Trina and disappear in Siberia..
Too all Curtis lovers enjoy his journey..
SuOOO,
Hi, I just don’t have many feelings about Curtis right now, maybe things will perk up with the new P.T guy. I just have no idea where they are going with his story, but wish they’d dump his wife, she doesn’t even act like a Dr. I’d like him back with Jordan, they have much more in common.
Hi Violet–yes– Curtis and Jordan were 100% better together–
IF the writers value Curtis he will walk again if not he might be written out..
Curtis has not been of value, lately,, time will tell
I hope so. He needs to get off that pity bus!!!!
Not a good storyline at all. Neither is Trina and Spencer. Everything is more extreme than it needs to be, and Nina is a total mess. Stop it!!!
Exactly
We need good writing team. So far your ruining GH’s reputation. Get to Ned coming out of that STUPID memory loss. Let him tell on Nina. Pit Carly an Sonny back together. Nina and Sonny have ZERO chemistry. Bring LuLu back great storyline now since her husband is in love with Sam.
You want to get Sonny and Carly back bring back their son!
The Valintine Anna storyline not great. Trying to kill Anna NOT! Bring Nicholas back. Get him and Ava back. You would win back your reputation if you can get, Jason or Luke back! Marry Fin and Elizabeth please. Great storyline about Curtis but he needs to go back to Jordin.
Guys get busy before GH is canceled.
Yes, yes, yes, and yes again to everything that was said from the Raynetta Waller’s comment. Please GH let’s see some real action once again.
So, in other words, you’re in favor of no character growth? Sonny and Carly – again? Curtis and Jordan – again? What is their to gain by resurrecting Luke?
Finn & Elizabeth just aren’t working. Violet’s tea parties are more interesting.
Resurrecting Luke makes sense because killing him offscreen in such a lame way was ridiculous & almost as much as an insult to the character as that pathetic exit story ReRon wrote in 2015.
There’s not a snowball’s chance in my back yard that Tony Geary would ever return permanently to GH. But I’d like to see him come back short term, just so he could dispense with the weak “death” story and usher in a “reboot” of the Spencer family which includes waking up Lulu from veggieland, bringing back Lucky (if JJ has to take breaks to do his musical stuff or whatever, so be it), and maybe even cousin Valerie if they can find someone worthy of the role.
And of course, they inevitably have to write in Bobbie’s death. And it would be a shame if her big brother wasn’t around to help with that.
After all that’s done, Luke can always go back to Amsterdam with Tracy.
I’m thinking the opportunity to bring Luke back (even for a short term) has passed. Tracy has been rejuvenated since they broke the shackles of her on again/off again husband. Laura certainly doesn’t need him around.
Poor Lulu, whenever she does wake, Dad and Aunt Bobbie will be gone. Does she know that Dustin died in the blast? Brother Nikolas is missing. Thankfully her old boss (Peter) is a goner and so are Jason and Franco.
I don’t know if she saw Dustin die. But she had dumped him right before the bomb went off, I think.
The last thing she did before she passed out and the lights went out forever (seemingly) was mouth the words “I love you” to Dante.
Your last six words are the most important in my book, can’t stand that Broad!
I’m seeing a lot of Tracy hate lately. Yeah, she’s being a little rough on her own brain injured son – which is ironic, considering she lived through the Quartermaine family drama which resulted from Jason’s similar injury.
Guess I just can’t hate Tracy. She’s the last of the OG Quartermaines. Yeah, technically Monica is still around, and we even hear her voice on a telephone occasionally. But it’s not looking likely that we will ever see her again.
Would like to know what she’s up to with this whole “industrial espionage” thing with Deception though. And who exactly she’s working with.
Valentin? Do you really think he’s after Anna, I don’t mean romantically.
Val seems to be acting weird lately. I seriously hope we aren’t looking at Fluke 2.0 here, but something is definitely off with him.
Sonny and Carly reuniting for the millionth time would be boring, redundant, cynical, unromantic and joyless.
Speaking of snitching on Nina, I thought Avery would do that weeks ago. A lot of us thought that would happen.
He’ll tell Curtis that he needs to grow up and be a man and not let his disability control him and take a hold of him!
How long are Sonny and Nina on GH going to go on??? It is just terrible.
I totally agree. I fast forward over everyone of Nina and Sonny’s scenes.
It will go on until Sonny finds out she’s the witch we all know she is, just taking longer, not thinking with his head right now.
Nina is a witch? I think that applies to Carly. I love Nina.
Sorry Harry, I hate Carly too but if you knew who Annie Dutton was maybe you’ld think a little differently.
If Sonny could do it why not Curtis!
Can we please have Taggert back instead!?
Yes, Taggert was more of a father figure for Trina than Curtis because there was real chemistry between the two. There’s no chemistry between Curtis and Trina as family and it comes out as the both trying tooooo hard to convince the audience to be so.
Just what we need, another Stud Muffin. Hopefully, he’ll be of interest to Trina.
Violet 🙂
AHAA Ha !! good one!!
Hopefully, he will take Trina to never never land ..
I’d actually like to know why his good friend Sonny isn’t visiting Curtis and talking to him about when he couldnt walk and was in a wheelchair and how it took a lot of work, but he got walking again
That makes sense, but it would also be too easy. They have to make things more complicated for Curtis, probably working towards a bigger and more involved story line.
My guess is that Sonny knows that Curtis – being an ex-cop/PI – is going to ask questions about the shooting. And right now, Sonny & Anna have “theories” about the shooting, but no definite answers.
Or it could just be that the scab writers didn’t know Sonny was ever paralyzed himself?
Sonny should be the one to help her this and then they can forge a friendship because Sonny was in the same situation A couple of years ago and he fought and he stayed alive and well. It’s pretty boring that through this even has feelings about being a shot from the bullet came from nowhere. And this is not a man if he’s crying about not appreciating his life the way it is. Build a handicap step anyway at the Savoy because that’s something that was overlooked and maybe try this will learn from that and bring in diversity besides black and white faces on GH.
New characters are not necessary. Use what you got. These writers don’t really know GH, they need a history lesson. Is Anna stupid?, no sparks between Trina and Spencer. Trina is drab. I agree that GH is suffering a downward spiral and unimaginative direction.
New characters are always needed. Sonny, Ava and Elizabeth were all new at one point. The therapist is probably on for a short stint.
Anna has been written as dumb for the past few years (even before Peter was introduced). It’s a shame, because she should be the smartest woman on the show.
I will give credit to the fill-in writers. They’ve actually moved some story along and have inserted history (Carly and Olivia flashbacks where appropriate).
You mention Anna, I don’t know what’s wrong with her. She thinks she’s indestructible and kills her to take help from anyone. I hope she’s not trusting the wrong people who might be trying to take her life.
I’m expanding on this comment after today’s show which compounds my theory, which I hope is very wrong. Is there any chance it could be Valentin, maybe being programmed somehow to start the fire, etc.? I think he really loves Anna but a lot of fishy things point to him.
Yesss! Also BRING JASON BACK!!! PLEASE!!
I think Curtis will fight like hell after Mr therapist kicks him in the ass. Curtis aint a quiter…. Do it Curtis… U got this…
I would love to see Curtis and Jordan back together. I think that Curtis was the intended target with Tagert being his assassin as last we saw him heavily hitting the bottle. Then Salena Woo will confess that she had the DNA results changed. This would give Portia and Trina pause and leave town to care for Tagert. Then Curtis and Jordan will get back together.
Why can’t Felix be Curtis’s therapist?
Curtis needs the will to fight back. For hisself and his family. Stop wallowing in self pity. Start getting your life back. You deserve it.
Sorry, but this guy looks nothing like the one that was with Curtis today. He tried to tell Portia to keep her distance and there she is lurking around.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jack Plants a Kiss on Nina; Are You Down With Them as a Couple?

The Friday, July 17 episode of General Hospital brought with it a cliffhanger that many viewers were forecasting was on its way to happening. Yup, Brennan (Chris McKenna) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) have a thing for each other and their relationship took a turn when Jack kissed Nina while at the Brown Dog bar while they were having drinks and she certainly did not pull away.
How did we get here? After being unable to find his black box at Wyndemere, Jack raised concerns that his WSB higher-ups would consider transferring him out of Port Charles because Cullum’ machinations happened in the town where he was the bureau chief.
Then, Jack asks Nina what motivates her to go to such extremes to help her daughter Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) with her nefarious crimes. Nina begins to explain to Jack that her children were taken from her and she was unable to protect Nelle or Willow and that Willow has suffered unspeakable trauma in her life that she had never totally dealt with. As a mother, she will do anything to protect her daughter and to stay in her life.

JACK MAKES HIS MOVE
After downing more drinks, Jack apologized for having blackmailed Nina to get intel from Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) in exchange for the traffic cam footage of Willow. He wished instead of that maneuver he would have asked the editor in chief of Crimson out on a date. He feel like then he would have gotten to know Nina before she had to save his life.
When Nina shared that is sounds like Jack is holding it against her, his comeback response is that he doesn’t do gratitude well. So in an effort to show Nina how gratefully he truly is to her, Jack gets up from his barstool and plants a major kiss on her! We fade to black.
You can check out the scenes between Jack and Nina from today’s GH below in the video entitled, “Before You Saved My Life” below.
Now weigh-in: are you all for Jack and Nina as a couple? Do you find it interesting that for the most part, Nina ends up with men that used to be involved with her nemesis Carly (Laura Wright)? Share your thoughts on this new romantic pairing via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’s’ Amanda Setton Talks Her Reaction, Scenes, and Co-Stars After Becoming a Daytime Emmy Nominee for the First Time (Exclusive)

When the nominations were announced for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this week, General Hospital fans were thrilled to see Amanda Setton’s name as one of this year’s Outstanding Supporting Actress nominees.
It marks the first time in her career that she has ever been nominated. Setton has played Brook Lynn Quartermaine since 2019. Soap viewers first saw her in the role of Kimberly Andrews on One Life to Live during her run from 2009-2011.
Amanda received her Daytime Emmy nomination for her emotional turn as Brook Lynn learned she had been lied to by her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) for years, after giving up her baby for adoption as a teen. Little did she know she had a secret son living with her this whole time at the Quartermaine mansion in Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza).

Photo: ABC
During an exclusive conversation live on Tuesday night, July 14, during the Michael Fairman Channel’s annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special, she discussed her reaction to the news, her nominated reel and her GH co-stars.
GOING FOR EMMY GOLD
Setton explained how she found out she was a Emmy nominee! “Frank Valentini called me, our boss. It was such a beautiful moving moment. I’ve known Frank for 20 years and to share this with him, I’m indebted to him on a lot of levels. I was in the car with my husband. We were going for a hike. We got away for just a couple days, just the two of us. It was early in the morning and to share that moment with Frank, to share that moment with my husband, it was the best. We cried and I’m just so grateful.”
The Supporting Actress nominee shared what scenes she submitted: “My reel was obviously about the Gio storyline. It started with the scenes with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and shout out to Alexa! She’s the best. It’s when I first find out that she knows and that I had boy. Then, begging her not to tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and just to leave it alone, then into the scenes with Rena Sofer, shout out to her! She is the best. I love her. I spoke to her today. She deserved to also be nominated. They are the scenes right after I find out at the Nurses’ Ball, and right after Brooklyn finds out that Gio is her son, not her cousin. Then my reel ended with the scene with Gio in the kitchen when Brook Lynn’s first sees him after the Nurses’ Ball and she says, ‘We can work this out,’ and he’s like, ‘No, we can’t,” and he walks away. It was an amazing story and kudos to the writers.”

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCENES
It is always important in the Emmy game to put together a submission, so that someone who doesn’t watch the show day to day, can grasp the story of what’s happening to your character. Setton explained how she went about assembling the choices for her scenes. “Between Michelle Henry (producer, GH) and Frank, they said, ‘You need to tell the story. Find the scenes that tell the story.” Once I did it was clear to all of us, the story has been told,” shared Amanda.
“Anyone who’s watching this reel can get a feel for the intensity of the story. I think after even the first scene where you’re just like, ‘Wait a minute! This girl had a baby? She didn’t know if it was a boy or girl?’ Now this nemesis of her wants to … ‘What’s happening? What’s going on? And then the mom knew the story? ‘ So by the end, your heart’s just broken for this girl.”
Initially, Amanda like the viewers were trying to figure out how GH would make sense of the story, where suddenly years later we find out Brook Lynn got pregnant at summer camp by Dante! Setton said, “Once they (the writers) started building it out and you saw all the different relationships playing out between her and her mother, her and Dante, her and Lulu, her and Gio, her and her husband Chase (Josh Swickard), even Tracy (Jane Elliot), and then the fallout of all of it, it just touched so many characters on the canvas. I think it was like a huge juicy burger for the fans to just take a big bite.”

AMANDA SETTON TALKS ON HER TV SON GIOVANNI MAZZA
In addition to Amanda, both Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner (Emma) landed their first ever nominations in the Emerging Talent category. Setton shared how she and Mazza have developed such a close bond.
“Gio and I are super close. Right from the start, we just hit it off. He is such a delight. He’s so hardworking. He’s such an eager learner. He’s always looking to be better. He always wants to grow. That’s a huge testament to his work ethic,” explains Amanda. “He’s an amazing person, and over the last couple of years, we’ve had many deep conversations about work, about life, perspective, gratitude, values, a lot of different deep things. I could not be more thrilled for Gio and this moment for him. It is well deserved. He has worked so hard for it. I really hope he wins. Although, I also love Braedyn!”
One of the most unforgettable moments of 2025 in the soaps is when Gio takes to the Nurses’ Ball stage after overhearing Lulu and Lois talk that he is the biological son of Brook Lynn and Dante. Ready to begin to play his violin, he smashes it pieces and storms off. Setton was in the scene and recalls, “That was wild. He did such a great job with that. That is not an easy moment to hit, pun intended. He nailed it.”

Photo: ABC
THE CONNECTION WITH JANE ELLIOT
On General Hospital, Brook Lynn is close with her ‘Granny,” the one and only Tracy Quartermaine, and in real life Amanda is very close with Jane Elliot, with whom she was able to share the news of her nomination. “First of all, this woman has become one of my closest friends.”
Amanda adds, I’m not exaggerating. I am confident to say she would say the same. We’ve become really close friends outside of work. We speak, almost every day. We just went out to lunch last week. She’s become such a close person in my life over these last few years. She’s such a leader. Jane’s a really special person in my life after my family. I wanted to share the news of this nomination with her and she was over the moon.”
HARD WORK PAID OFF
Getting a pat on the back from her peers is one of the more touching moments in Amanda’s career, as she explains: “I have to say we’re in the daytime world, so for us it feels so wonderful and so rich. But in the landscape of the entertainment industry, in daytime, we’re in the trenches. We work really hard. We have a ton of pages. We have a ton of really high stakes, dramatic work to try to do in a grounded, authentic way, continuously every day on television. Not that it’s thankless, because thank God we are employed actors on a network TV show, and we are also grateful. But, I’m not going to lie, and say it doesn’t feel good to just get a little ‘thank you’ or like a little, ‘I see your work.’ It feels fulfilling.”
You can check out the full live interview with Amanda Setton at the 2:24:26 mark during the Daytime Emmy Nominations Special Live below, which featured 13 newly-nominated actors sharing their reactions and what they submitted for their reels the landed them a nomination at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
So, are you happy for Amanda that she finally secured her first ever Daytime Emmy nomination? Do you think she is one of the frontrunners for the gold for Outstanding Supporting Actress based on the emotional tale of Brook Lynn’s journey to learning she had a son and it was Gio Palmieri?
