General Hospital continued its success in the ratings scoring some firsts once again for the latest ratings period numbers from Nielsen! According to a press release from ABC,  “With the citizens of Port Charles lives in upheaval due to Robin’s return from the dead and the looming verdict for AJ’s murder trial, General Hospital ranked as the #1 program in Daytime for the 2nd consecutive week in Women 18-49 (779,000/1.2 rating), marking the series’ first back to back wins in the core demo in six-and-a-half years!”

In addition to that, the ratings period which covers December 9th through the 13th, revealed that the past three weeks of airshows have been the show’s Top 3 most-watched weeks in nearly three years in Total Viewers,  since the week of 12/27/10!

And, the ratings week also gave GH, its  2nd-most-watched week in over two years in Women 18-49 and in over two and a half years in Women 25-54 (1.06 million/1.7 rating), behind only last week and since the weeks of 8/15/11 and 3/21/11! General Hospital also continues to be on pace for its best season in seven years!  Plus, is still showing the highest year-to-year increases of any daytime drama!

So, what do you think about General Hospital as we head into the holidays?  Do you think it will sustain its ratings numbers with the next wave off upcoming stories and what’s next for your favorite characters? Let us know!

I hope so. Not all the storylines are my cup of tea but that doesn’t matter. The show is not only surviving, it’s thriving.
GH has gotten more attention from me since losing OLTL, as has DOOL. I will always miss OLTL, and AMC, but I’m really happy that GH is doing so well.

Let’s see the horrors who run ABC Daytime try to MESS with GH now! I hope they don’t DARE.

i agree with you boes, i love gh. wonderful storylines and great acting. i love julian jerome ava robin patrick and anna devane.

Why don’t the geniuses at ABC just admit they made a mistake and bring back OLTL and AMC. They can certainly see that the people who watch daytime television do not want to watch talk shows, so just suck it up and bring back our soaps and watch your ratings soar. Put the hard working, well-deserved actors back to work and quit throwing money at the “high-priced, overrated talking heads” that on-one wants to see.

If anything, my suggestion would be to revive OLTL and AMC as 30 minute shows and place them in the 3 and 3:30 pm time slots. Way back in the early 1970’s, they were all only 30 minute programs and OLTL used to come on at 3:30pm after GH at 3pm.

ABC will never revive AMC and OLTL..
ABC has 1 soap and that is all ABC wants..
Some can’t understand that ABC will not bring back the 2 soaps..
Nobody wants to even touch them, you can not give them to any network….. It is sad, but it is reality ..
No network wants them including ABC 🙂 ..

PP is/was their only hope.. 🙁

I’m with you, su0000. Just because GH is thriving doesn’t mean that could be sustained w/2 new soaps. And, since when did cancelling any show (like KATIE) mean that a network brings back old shows they’ve cancelled? Er…NEVER!

Right now, the trend is on creating new soaps online that don’t have the baggage or expectations of old soaps. While they have known actors, they do have smaller budgets & overhead costs & don’t suffer comparisons to previous network productions. That’s where soap fans need to be looking right now – new online productions – instead of crying about spilled milk.

lets get micheal muhney hired as the new jason morgan…that will put general hospital over the top and number one in all demographics….lets kick y and r right back to number 2,,,and this casting coupe would do it,,every one please contact the powers that be on general hospital and ask for muhney to be hired as jason morgan…..

Great idea. Jason returns with a personality AND acting ability!

lol!! I never understood the attraction to Steve Burton’s Jason.

That would be amazing! If Y&R becomes number 2 after being #1 for 25 years, CBS would have no choice but to fire JFP. Michael Muhney would be a much better Jason Morgan and has great chemistry with Maura West’s “Ava”.

I totally agree with yall!!!

If they keep the focus on great storytelling and utilize the veteran actors the way they have the past year, the future looks bright for GH!

wonderful news, gh is on fire now. lets hope this continues. katie couric is cancelled, thank god. katie was boring. the worst talk show ever. i watched 1 episode, and fell a sleep. lol. now katie couric please go away.

The ratings are good, most of the stories are entertaining and im very happy about that but the biggest news im desperate to hear…no, not who Patrick picks, or Bens paternity is revealed…the biggest news im waiting to hear is when GH is finally renewed!!!

I believe
GH would without a doubt be #1 if like Y&R it was shown internationally and on a second network as TVGN ..

FV, RC, ALL the writers, Cast, crew, have done an excellent job!!!
I am being happily entertained, and that is what it is all about..

Well done GH !!!

I’m not sure but I hope so. I think the reveal of who Patrick chooses will determine where the ratings will go. Robin is just sort of wandering and is in need of some concrete storyline. I’m not interested in Molly and TJ (that was one storyline I wish they’d put to bed).

so over molly & tj…. she is annoying and he is boring.. bring back christina!!!!!

I don’t really care for Molly & TJ…..They are a bit boring.. Fighting and making-up all the time….

Love you GH! Congrats and keep on rocking.

DITTO!

GH is the best show on the air and the ratings are finally reflecting that! The supposed number 1 the Y&R is sinking fast with all the major firings and cast leaving!

I’m glad to hear that GH is doing so well as it is my fav soap. I have watched it for many years and believe bringing some of the Vets back, like Anna, Duke, Robert and Robin, and Bobby has helped a lot. Fans were very upset when Steve/Jason left ….don’t think he could be replaced….also miss Brandon/Johnny and now Spinelli has left. Jonathan as Lucky is doing a great job on Nashville – I am happy for him. I hope GH keeps on hitting high in the ratings….. Congrats to all the cast, crew and everyone connected with the soap!!!!!

I loved today’s show!

Love seeing Bobbie Spencer again. Hope she is offered a contract. She needs to be a part of the canvus.

Heres an idea – expand the show to two hours – and include the casts of AMC and OLTL – make it AllMyChildrenHaveOneLifeToLiveInTheGeneralHospital (AMCOLTLGH)…

It will work with Frank and Ron at the helm…

I’m so excited for GH. I’m a 3rd generation watcher and I hope to continue the tradition with my kids 🙂

I love the enthusiasm of this article too! Every sentence (except one that is a question) was ended with an exclamation point! 🙂 LOVE THAT OTHERS LOVE GH AS MUCH AS ME!!!

Congratulations… I’m also a third Generation and continue watching with family in the evening’s..

Today’s episode of GH was wrong(12/20) Fri… It was a repeat about Patrick & Sabrina’s wedding and Anna hugging Robin because she happy to see and that she isn’t really dead.. What is up with this??? It’s say’s new on my t v guide on the T.V. It is suppose to be about: Patrick makes a decision and it is dated 12/20..Plus it was interrupted by a special report….Why do they showing a repeat episode when it says it is a new episode???? Someone goofed!

Because Obama interupted the show, and so ABC pushed to Mon. Dec. 23…that way the entire episode can be seen!!!

After the TV book went to print, ABC realized the president would interrupt, so they decided to show a repeat.

Thanks for the news. Since Charter has pulled the plug on SOAPNet 10 days early, I was frustrated missing Friday’s episode. I guess no Christmas shopping Monday.

GH Rocks n’ Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just proves if you write a decent story focusing on the characters the viewers know and love, with newer ones added to the mix as need be– people will watch. GH went back to basics, looked at what made the show great once upon a time and I think for the most part they doing their best to follow that template. Those who created these soaps, created the genre, if the newer writers and producers just stay with the vision of the one who created the soap, with the right dash of modern flair– viewers will be happy, well at least this viewer will be. Only if Y&R had a team in place that felt that way too (sigh)

I wish there was a LIKE button on this site so I could agree with so many of the comments without having to write something more. LOL!

Why is Y&R still #1? I am totally serious! The stories are not compelling, the characters and the cast are not what they once were, but yet it is still at the top? Don’t get it!

Because people believe the hype!

You have to look at the ratings demographics to understand. Y&R has been #1 for 25 years. It hooked its audience a long time ago, & is now made up largely of seniors, retirees & people that can stay home & watch live every day. That’s why GH is #1 in viewers 25-49. But, Y&R is still #1 overall – because there are more viewers ages 50-100 watching Y&R consistently every single day.

Viewing patterns are changing though. Getting new, younger viewers is great for GH because it means what they are showing now is interesting to the younger generation. Y&R won’t be able to hold that #1 position if all they do is maintain the older viewership (whose members pass away every year) and not attract younger viewers.

I don’t believe in demo groups, based on race, gender, age, ethnicity, but congrats to all shows on total viewership. Keep up the good work!

Robin & Patrick, Maxie, Georgie, Anna, Robert, and Duke, Nik & Britt, even Sam & Silas – these are the reasons for the great ratings. Get rid of all the ridiculous taiga longs and get back to the basics- it’s obviously working. Let’s ditch the Disney princess and her suckup friends, the teen squad, and the mod scene. The viewers have spoken.

OLTL was amazing under Frank/Ron in it’s last year until it was cancelled. GH has been revitalized since Ron/Frank took over. You can tell they put everything they have into it. The past few months have been nothing short of amazing! My only concern for GH’s future is the possible departure of particular key characters that have carried these great storylines. The Scorpios are always trotted out during sweeps for a good reason-It seems to me they bring in ratings. However, Tristan Rogers is already gone and we don’t know how long Kimberly McCullough is staying. Robin’s return was a driving force these past few months. I hope this doesn’t affect the momentum GH has going right now.

Yes but it won’t last. I just read that they are going to make Sabrina pregnant! Another baby I am done!!!! RIP GH it has been a wonderful 36 years and stupid ridiculous joke for 2 years. This writing is awful!!!! The vets are the only reason I have been watching and they all can’t leave this show fast enough.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
