The Bold and the Beautiful Bombshell: Maya is Transgender!

In one of the most surprising twists, even though some fans speculated it was a possible theory, the secret that Maya (Karla Mosley) Avant was hiding came to light!
It all went down when her sister Nicole (Reign Edwards) confronted her in a heart-wrenching scene at the end of Wednesday’s episode of CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. In the closing moments, viewers learned for the first time that Maya is transgender! She was born as Myron. As the series celebrates its 28th anniversary on broadcast television, this is a first for them and with a mainstay character. Today, this story point was trending on Twitter and illicit such a huge response from the viewing audience.
The big reveal came to light when Nicole told Maya she often wondered why their parents never spoke of her big sister, and how she missed having a big sister to grown up with. But Nicole added, she had hoped that Maya would tell her the truth herself since she stumbled upon some information from a birth certificate. In the final moments of the cliffhanger of the episode: A teary-eyed Nicole came forth with the following words: “You’re not my sister, Maya. You’re not Maya at all. You’re Myron, my brother.”
Karla Mosley told USA today on the top secret story twist: “My first reaction was surprise, because 10 or 20 years ago, this is not a story we would be telling, and not in a way that’s truthful and not sensational. My second reaction was, ‘Thank you.’ It’s a gift it’s a privilege. It’s a real opportunity to educate our viewers here and all over the world.”
The series executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell said in a statement today on the story: “It is about people respecting other people’s differences and their uniqueness. In the end, we all want to be loved, and in order to love someone else you first have to love yourself. If you are transgender, gay, straight, it doesn’t matter. It’s about finding love in life. This is a love story.”

While I respect the story, it doesn’t make sense since Maya first came on the canvas looking for her daughter. Hopefully the writers will tell this story tastefully

I have to agree that that is the only negative of telling this storyline because they really have to completely explain the issue of Maya’s daughter and how she had a daughter if she is transgender. So there might be more secrets that Maya is hiding. I don’t think they will rewrite history but I do think we could see a conversation between Maya & Nicole explaining everything so as soon as they clear all that up the storyline could really be one of B&B’s most memorable storylines its ever had
Yes, Dad’s have daughters, but at one point when Caroline had her Uncle Bill help her keep Maya away from Rick, Bill brought the father of Maya’s baby to a bar. Maya was under a court order not to see him. Bill had his secretary take photos of them together so she he could blackmail her to stay away. He threatened to give the photos to the authorities to put her back in jail. I don’t like when they rewrite history.
I will be shocked if he addresses that issue of the baby. Heard the names Jack , Bridget and her baby RJ , Thomas mentioned lately? I would not get too excited about this he was going to make ground breaking headway with Caroline’s two Moms seen them lately? The shock value lasted two minutes with me then I realized who was writing this.
The writers on this soap are really lazy and sad, Yeah she started with a daughter, but i think, and i do realize how nasty this sounds but the truth often is. Maya is a beautiful black woman dating a white man, and i think all this was to taint her is some way that could be (acceptable). This is a serious subject, one that should of been properly treated with respect and a new person.
I was so upset with this storyline!!! I understand the message has to be put out that everyone deserves love, but how is that you choose Maya? Finally a beautiful black woman on the show that I have been watching since the beginning and you make her out to be a man?? Really? I was so disappointed and hurt. Why didn’t you make Caroline a man or Ivy? Why is Ivy on the show anyway? She is soooo boring and a waste of air space. I keep hoping that it’s not true and you guys will let Maya be happy. Now I have to wait and watch you humiliate her and tear her down. I just don’t like where there story line is going.
The shock-and-awe, desperate writing by Brad Bell needs to end. Cancel the show.
You better not have been one of the fans that complained that the storylines were so much about hope and love triangles for 5 years than finally Brad Bell actually takes on a storyline that isnt about a love triangle or hope & still not being happy with anything. This isn’t desperate writing far from it so its very insulting to say that. You don’t know what goes on in the writing rooms of B&B but what we do know is that Brad Bell has been planning this for months now so I seriously doubt he woke up one morning and was like ” let’s do a transgender storyline” so he just did it straight away & given the time he and the writers have been planning this they probably have done a lot of research to understand the process of transitioning & the relationships & struggles of transgenders and listen if Brad bell completely screws this storyline up I will definitely say it for sure as I have in the past with his storylines but so far there is no evidences of that. So saying cancel the show is so dramatic and over the top
I agree Sarah. This has so much thinking put into it. I almost stopped watching when Brook came back because I thought here we go again Brook goes after Ridge whose involved with Caroline, Katie & Brook fighting over Bill, Hope coming back to screw up Liam & Ivy. I’m so tired of the triangles although I have to say Liam belongs with Steffy in my book, and Hopeless can stay gone so this is a refreshing story line.
Some viewers go for schtick.
It’s a story to avoid the pressure of writing a story between two men or two women. Viewers won’t see two men kissing. They’ll see a man and woman kissing and know the she was once a he!
I do think that B&B should have had a front burning story about a gay couple for sure this is the fashion industry I wouldn’t stereotype people but fashion certainly isn’t run by only people who are straight. So if this storyline is done well and well received it could definitely open the door for those characters to be in the major storylines of the show. The world is certainly ready for two men or two women kissing on screen because gay characters are very much frontline characters in many primetime shows. I would actually argue that doing a story about a transgender character is harder. I’ve already seen comments like ” wait so Rick and Carter are Gay” people still don’t seem to understand transgender men and women so if this storyline is written with a lot of sensitivity and respect for the transgender community there would be a lot more acceptances. You might just be making excuses because you don’t want to see a transgender storyline but this is the 2015 and out of wedlock pregnancies and long drawn out love triangles on their own are not going to cut it and B&B have multiple times let social issues play a big part over the years in the show.
I agree not a story most want to see for a major character they could have brung in a day player and worked it in some how but really Maya is to big of a character to experiment with.
I love the story line. Leave it alone. It brings so much out into the open.
I agree completely with you on that I really believe with this being well written and some amazing acting which is guaranteed with the actors involved this will be amazing
Wow– miss one show and looks what happens– okay– well considering this show is set in LA and in the fashion industry and they never had one gay male character for them to do a trans gender story line is quite the leap for them– perhaps Brad is finally thinking out of box, or in his case out of the triangles– I hope they do it justice, because those poor souls who are trapped in the wrong body deserve to have their stories told truthfully and with some care.

Talk about a throwback to the storytelling days of old…HELLO KAREN WOLEK…wrap on piece of string into another piece of string and STRING US ALONG as long as you can till the reveal…GO BRAD BELL…MAKE IT WORK!!!
First of all my mouth went one way and my brain the other…I haven’t even watched the show but I Laud @MICHAELFAIRMAIN ON AIR/ON SOAPS for GREAT spoilers and in-depth writing. First your stomach sinks and bang your head against the wall for not wanting to miss a post and getting the scoop you didn’t want to get..and then you get over it and read read read…that being said I think of all soaps latest shocks this is going to be the most powerful if done right. On the heels of huge audience reception for Shonda Rhimes and now Empire this could be a story that draws more viewers. I hope it’s one story that draws out and is given the time and secrecy it deserves right up to the wedding day…We need to see the extended family..we need to see the friends who are in the know…I bet Othello is…we need the angst..tension..and outright non cartoonish drama this story deserves…and it’s given to PEOPLE OF COLOR…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRAD BELL…we suffered through months of Hope/Liam/Wyatt/Steffy…you put your heart into the Union Rescue Mission holiday episodes…PLEASE PUT IT INTO THIS ONE STORY…for ALL your viewers…even those who hate it will eat it up like the best biscuit in a puddle of the best gravy ever made.
I found this to be one of the best shocks daytime has provided in a long time. Aside from the rotting corpse in the Elm street basement on GH back at the end of January, I can’t remember a time where I’ve been this shocked. Today’s episode was great. It’s been really hard for the 4 remaining soaps (especially B&B) to provide that kind of a shock recently, so kudos to the writers, not in a million years was I expecting this.
Also, people that are freaking out about how Maya first came on to the show, looking for her daughter and all, need to calm down. There’s no way Brad Bell has forgotten about that and is going to rewrite history so blatantly for this story. Yes, B&B has a history of bending history, but to completely rewrite Maya’s roots and entire purpose for her introduction on the show? No. I have a feeling an explanation is coming soon.
Here’s my theory: what if it wasn’t hers? What if It was that guy Jesse’s from a prior relationship and Maya took the baby? Or what if she adopted the baby (because, as a man, she can’t have one) and lost parental rights?
I’m just really looking forward to the fallout from this. Rick is going to flip at the deceit, and I bet this will send him further on his downward spiral. Carter and Maya also had a relationship, so I wonder how he will take this.
Also, the acting in this episode was great, especially Karla Mosley. She really shines when she’s given good material. As for Reign Edwards… she’s still growing on me, I don’t think she’s a great actress, but she did well today. Overall, awesome episode!
What about Maya’s daughter and her first husband?? Brad Bell you have some splaining to do.
What is there to explain? She was born a male, got surgery, as a female she had a baby, the baby died.
If Mya was born a man there is no way for he/she to reproduce.
Even with surgery, Maya wouldn’t be able to give birth to a baby if she was born male. She could father a child, but reassignment surgery doesn’t include a womb.
What about adoption or maybe she as a he donated his sperm and his girlfriend at the time gave birth & didn’t want the child. Don’t forget she didn’t come from a great family or friends & even went to jail for awhile. I want to see what Caroline says since she never called her by her real name it was always Merna. Should be interesting days ahead unless her sister keeps quiet but that means Maya will be getting her a job and having blackmail all the time.

Can they actually give someone ALL the reproductive organs just like that? I would think the character would have had to been born with BOTH reproductive organs and the parents made a judgment call.
I mean, I don’t think you can be born a male (without ovaries) and give birth to a child (without ovaries). I haven’t heard that they can create ovaries and a uterus yet, but maybe I am behind the times. What I DO know, is that it takes a lot to actually get pregnant. Yes, there are those that it happens easily for, but for many others all the stars have to align and the percentages great.

This story is BS why give this crappy story to the only viable black female character on soaps in over a decade to be honest I’m offended especially when I thought Rick and maya had a chance at real happiness now all that will happen is rick will leave her/him and run back to caroline or someone else…..bs is my response to this story…
So your saying that if the storyline had been given to anyone other than the viable black female character you would be happy. Maya’s ethnicity isn’t at all related to this storyline and if there is any context on that at all the fact that an African-American actress got the most challenging and dare I so most important storyline that B&B have told in 28 years deserves praise on that fact alone. Also Maya is not a he. Maya is a fully transitioned woman because if she wasn’t obviously Carter and Rick would have noticed. Your also assuming that Rick won’t want to be with a transgender woman & completely overlooking that Rick is running with this honesty/no secrets policy. I do think Rick is going to be shocked but what will hit him most is that Maya didn’t trust him enough to tell him she was transgender. I believe that’s where the storyline might be heading. We may even get to met Maya & Nicole’s parents at some point and B&B can really show the struggles of what happens when parents can’t accept that there child was born in the wrong body. This is real life stuff and its really going to impact the whole show and Maya will be at the center of it. This storyline is far from BS its going to be an interesting look on the life of someone who is transgender.
This is an slap in the face to black woman.the only one on this show and she is really a man. So black woman cannot be beautiful. If Brad wanted to tell a story why not Ivy. BUT no never a forrester. How about the only black girl and turn her into a lying manipulative man. So no way rick found love with a black girl but with a lying man. Turning off bold for good

If all couples stayed with who we wanted them with, there would be no drama, no story. Katie would have never been divorced from Bill, Brook would be with Ridge, Liam with Hope, Rick with Caroline,Maya with Carter etc. How boring. Maya is perfect for the role. If you ever watched transgender (male to female) after all the surgery they are perfect, without a flaw and that is Maya.

I’m behind on episodes so this headline made my jaw drop. First thought was how are they going to explain her baby with Ricky Paull Goldin, but I’m sure they’ll find a way. Glossing over it would leave a lot of people scratching their heads.
But…. WOW. I certainly didn’t expect this twist and hopefully they mine some real emotional beats out of this, rather than let Rick come off as an ignorant bigot or do the showy thing of revealing this on the runway at a fashion show, or have the Forrester girls cattily out Maya as Myron because Maya has been so awful to them… I guess my core hope is that Bell is planning to tell this story with the sensitivity and respect it deserves, rather than use it as the stunt to grab all headlines and then not know how to get out of a corner he painted himself into.

If he tells the story the way it is in today’s world the girls will giggle, they will talk behind her back, Rick will leave her and if Brook doesn’t like her now just think when her & Katie find out what they’ll say! My son is transgender and he keeps it to himself because he knows from experience how people feel. If Bill Bell wants a fairy-tale story then he will do what you want and have everyone hug/kiss and sing Coom -by-aw and he will lose the great story he has created.
BTW If you want proof of what I’m saying just listen/read what people are saying about Bruce Jenner.I read someone say he’s a creep,one ugly woman,sick, that’s what happens when you have too much money,filthy,and I even read where someone said he’d be better off dead.This man cannot come out of his house without reporters flashing camera’s at him and laughing just read Radar on line.
I don’t want the story to be whitewashed by having it be a lovefest… not in the least. I just want some of the characters to surprise us by being supportive. I don’t want it to be ALL ridicule and bigotry. I think Rick will have a tough time, probably even understanding Maya’s transgender journey, and will be mad about the secret. But I’d like them to go through all those emotional beats and then slowly get back around to them reconnecting.
I like to think that all the Forresters would have trouble understanding/accepting because they have led rather sheltered lives of privilege. I think Caroline would have the worst or most insensitive reaction because of her history with Maya and bitterness toward her. Is there a chance Bill knew about this? Wasn’t he trying to blackmail Maya about her past a while back? And we assumed he was talking about her prison past, but the story kind of faded?
And yet I could see characters like Eric and Ivy being more accepting because there’s less water under the bridge with Maya and they have had more worldly experiences. Yes the Forresters are from LA and work in fashion, but from what we’ve SEEN them experience since the start of the series, they haven’t interacted with the LGBT community. There was a brief suggestion that Thomas was gay, there was NuRidge attending the pride parade with a friend while he was living in Paris, and Amber’s shenanigans with framing Rick for being a crossdresser, but nothing of this weight or heft has been covered with the Forresters, and considering how entrenched Maya is in the family and company, I’m sure this will be divisive.
Nikki, is your son transitioning or completed with his transition and keeping it quiet because of the ignorance and cruelty out there? It’s not my business, of course, but it makes me sad that as far as we’ve come on some issues, the world still struggles this way to just accept people for who they are. It shows how important it is that this story IS told honestly with Maya, not through a rose-colored lens, because it’s got to be a very difficult road for anyone brave enough to travel it. My heart goes out to you and your son.
There are PLENTY of filthy rich people who are not bombarded by the paparazzi.
There are those who are LEGITIMATE celebrities like actors and musicians whom through none of their own wrong doing are hounded by paparazzi every waking hour. They do not ask for this. Sure they may want to be a celebrity, but ultimately it is about their CRAFT. They do quality work and do their best to keep their personal business to themselves.
However, there are THOSE who choose to be on ASININE REALITY SHOWS, like Jenner, for the soul purpose of getting their 15 minutes of fame by debasing themselves on television or social media just to get recognized.
Jenner made his bed and now he has to lie in it. I do not feel sorry that he can’t leave his home without being followed because he brought it on himself. He gave away his right to privacy a long time ago. I just wish the paparazzi could learn to take pictures of nature or something instead of waste $$$ on these nobodies.

Wow, wow, wow…I was thinking they were going to do a “She’s my sister, she’s my daughter”…you know daddy did it…but this one was brilliant–a stroke of genius! I would bet money that Rick’ s first reaction is total betrayal and goes off the deep end. And later, will wake up to himself and he’ll be living in a whole new world and just maybe become a real human being. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the head!
Let’s be honest daytime isnt ready and the majority of people (those who actually still watch) don’t want to see this either.
Whether daytime is ready or not they have set the storyline up to compensate for that. The audience of B&B want to see Rick absolutely destroyed. So I would argue that a majority would either be watching to see Maya’s journey to self-acceptences or to see Rick be absolutely destroyed by Maya being transgender. As I have stated before I believe they will play it off more about Maya not being honest with Rick rather than Maya being born a man. Yes there are some very ignorant people in the world but they shouldn’t account nor represent the B&B fan base and certainly not the whole of Daytime audiences globally. The only reason Daytime may not be ready as well is because this kind of story hasn’t been told many times before on soaps. I believe there have previously been only 2 storylines from US soaps that did use a character of this calibar. So yes in the year 2015 there should be main characters on soaps that are LGBT.
I watched British Coronation Street which did a beautifuly written transgender story -Hayley Cropper was once a man-when people found out she had many problems and at first her future husband Roy was shocked and wouldnt accept her-but things cooled down and after some legal obstacles Roy and Hayley married and were happily married for many years-they had troubles like many other couples but they stayed married until Hayleys death from cancer last January…this soap is so realistic and doesnt evade real problems people have and never does anything for shock!!!

As a transgender woman this story is a welcome change at B&B and something that of course is close to my heart. Good for them keeping it quite for one but also giving the story line to a main character. I now am looking forward to watching this show again. Thank you
Many different (including this one)forums had the theory of Maya being Transgender. I applaud the twist and the acting is terrific between the two actresses playing sisters. I am sad for what the future storylines will bring once the other characters find out Maya’history. I know some will be supportive but others will be ignorant and bigoted! I hope this is the start of showing other characters who are part of the G.L.B.T. community, it always shock and disappoint me that a show that has been on air as long they have and take place in the fashion industry has not had a main character who was gay, bisexual or lesbian . I do not count Karen Spencer because she is not a main character.
I don’t follow B&B, so perhaps my opinion will be discounted…That being said, after watching the scene, I say “kudos” to the two actresses involved. They were both great. Sometimes great acting is in what’s not said, the reactions, the listening, more so than what is said. Both ladies did an excellent job.
I’d also like to commend Mr.Bell for putting this story out there and hope he will do it justice for all the B&B fans the world over and for the trans community out there. As he said in is statement, everyone deserves to be loved. If this story can help the trans community feel supported and loved, and help all the other communities learn and love better, than I hope it’s well received. Hope that makes sense.
I don’t believe it. The birth certificate could be that of Maya’s twin or older brother. I wish the media would stop reporting this revelation as fact when Maya has confirmed nothing. What happens if Maya tells Nicole on Monday that she’s wrong, that this secret isn’t about her, but their brother? If I’m wrong and this is about her, she will never have a romantic life because I just don’t see either of the men on that show wanting her after this. Good story to pursue, but bad for Maya. They should have given this to Nicole as a breakout story instead.
I am amazed and have to applaud them for not doing what I thought they would do, recycle tired plots like “maya is her mom” or “maya did porn or was a hooker”.
This is a huge step for any show, especially when the last five years were based around that nitwit Hope.
I cant wait to see how Carter and Rick react.
I agree with everything you said. B&B could have done the “You’re not my sister, you’re my mother” story (which, to be honest, is where I thought they were going with it), but this was a genuine shock and a very interesting plot twist.
I’m so glad Hope is off the show because too much story was devoted to her and the endless love triangles. This is a definite step in the right direction for B&B that needs diversity in storytelling. I’m really looking forward to seeing this play out.

I doubt itll even come that close…Hayleys story was brilliantly written and i miss her character-loved her with Roy! Corrie has a fan site chat room-i found it the other day-people discuss everything about that show and no fan attacks the other and call them a hater-from what ive read so far-when someone comments on something they dislike-all you do is google Corrie and youll find it unless you already know of it-its great!!!

it was later revealed… she is a lesbian, and got involved with Bianca… etc…
it was beautifully written and played out. if memory serves… his character never fully got over her turn… and AMC was cancelled
Jacob Young… is a phenom… a riveting actor… and was downright chilling in his role in Pine Valley

I think it’s fantastic.
It’s a shock (good) for the viewers, and a well thought storyline. Compare that to what “shocks” viewers on GH, for example, and the contrast is story telling rooted in realism.

Let the stilted dialogue begin!! Well…this is hardly new for daytime. The City told the story 20 years ago with an Asian model. And it went over like a led zeppelin and was written away quickly. I am all for social issues being explored on soaps if they are written well….like by Claire Labine or Doug Marland. They had a way of weaving those storylines organically into the characters, not pushing the characters into a story just for the sake of it. I watch soaps for escapism, and seeing burned children, a hastily rewritten transgender tossed in, bad horror movie rip offs, etc….just aren’t cutting it across the dial.

I was trying to figure out what the secret was prior to yesterday’s episode…and that was one of the scenarios I came up with…so it didn’t surprise me…now we’ll see how Rick accepts that when he finds out!!!

I’m really curious to see how this will all play out. I really figured they’d have Nicole become Mayas daughter. This Is differant then the Usual love triangle. I can’t wait to see how Rick handles all this. Not only had Maya lied to him but this is a Big secret she’s kept from him

Applaud the unexpected but disappointed with the wrinkle here. Would have preferred to see gay male characters years ago, I will admit. And more diversity earlier on. Maya is so rich with possibilities, an outlier in the Forrester/Logan family. Just not sure transgender was the best way to go here. Will watch it play out and see. That said, the actresses rocked their scene of revelation. Just seems a shock value story development on a series lately rife with sudden shifts in character and tone. Give me a ronace that lasts longer than three months and is based on something real. Please let me have a couple marry and take the vows seriously. Let someone have a baby and raise it properly.
I am so happy that B&B chose to write a storyline that #1 does NOT involve Brooke front and center #2 involve the ever so boring love triangle…
While Brooke and Hope were “away” it was clear that the remaining cast can EASILY carry the show… in fact wasn’t it a welcome change?
I am grateful they are taking a risk with this storyline….now just follow through with great writing and may have something here!
As for those that feel that B&B should not “have gone there” … like it or not, this is our world…it happens every day…. it is a story that needs to be explored, if done correctly, it can be a ground breaking storyline!

I was just thinking . Does anyone remember when Caroline first came on the show? She was dating Rick & Thomas at the same time. Rick was still with Amber who took his picture and fixed it somehow and convinced Caroline he liked to dress-up in women’s clothing. Caroline pulled away from him and went out more with Thomas until the truth came out. It should be interesting to see what happens this time since Rick told his Aunt Katie that he’d rather be alone than to be with someone who lies to him. Mind you she didn’t lie but she was not up front and honest with him not to mention Rick wants a family at some point.
So stupid, unrealistic, inauthentic, pandering and did I say stupid? B&B is constantly pushing its political agendas and I for one am not interested. Goodbye B&B.

Yes Bell does that but they all do I just don’t need Hollywood preaching to me about anything they do not live in the real world neither does ugly Hollywood Washington DC. As for KM saying she is thrilled to be telling the story it is a paycheck what would anybody expect her to say.
I’ve just started watching the show about a month ago. I know who some of the characters are though, because I’m an avid reader of all things soap. My husband has seen 1 show in his life, and it was 1 where Nicole was telling her she knew her secret. I called my husband when I saw this and told him!! That’s how fabulous this surprise was! Even he was shocked!
I think of all of the soap writer’s going right now, this is the 1 that has the best chance of telling the story correct. I really thought GH was going to do a transgender s/l w/Luke or his relatives, but ? (Could this propel B&B past Y&R in the ratings? Maybe!)
a shocker would be if the actor playing Maya is really transgender.
I hope he/she is outed during the fashion show. Ivy and Caroline can introduce the top model as transgender Myron aka Myrna oops Maya. Then a close up of Ricks face! Wow! Good sweeps show.
Elite advisors Hi, Yes I realize that but while she was a male could she not have impregnated somebody that later gave the baby up to her? There’s a lot to be told about the story but if told right it’s going to be fantastic. We couldn’t ask for better actress’s either. Mind you I’m a little sick of Rick and his holier than thou attitude.
I don’t know where they are going with this where it concerns Rick because Rick does not really love Maya, so who cares?! They always have him thinking about Caroline. Maya is just someone who is keeping his bed warm and fighting his battles for him.
I thought when she came on the show they had said she gave birth in jail. I would like to know who is the father/mother because they had Maya’s ex- boyfriend AKA baby daddy on the show. I am not understanding. Am I wrong?
i think its neat that they made her transgender plus that baby was his not hers she even said that. i think that rick does love her but i dont think that he will stick around because he wants kids and she can not give him that ill be amazed if he stays with her since she is lying so much.plus when i look at maya now all i see is male features. her arms look like a male to. what i dont get is how rick doesnt see it.
Well, what a disappointment. Here we have a Beautiful black woman who by the way, is in love with a white man with financial stability and the writers make the relationship a travesty. The writers have made her a Gold Digger and now you have made her a man. I understand that there are transgender people out there but the story-line could have happened with two of the other characters or perhaps they could have introduced a new character who was or is a transgender person. It is the fashion business.
Is it a “role” ? Or is Karla Mosley “transgender”?

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast
After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.
Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.
The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.
In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.
Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”
As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”
The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

‘General Hospital’s’ Jonathan Bennett Receives 3 ‘Critics Choice Real TV Awards’ Nominations for Hallmark Series, ‘Finding Mr. Christmas’
Many things are coming up roses for Jonathan Bennett! On the heels of the news that he is set to debut this month in the role of Joe Fitzpatrick on General Hospital, who is rumored to be a new love interest for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), comes the news that Bennett’s reality series, Finding Mr. Christmas has received 3 nomination for the Critics Choice Real TV Awards.
Bennett’s Hallmark Channel series finds itself in tough competition alongside fellow nominees: RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV), Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix), Survivor 50 (CBS), Top Chef (Bravo) and The Traitors (Peacock). In addition, Jonathan himself is nominated for Best Show Host and the series participants as the Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series.
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) revealed the nominees for the eighth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards on Thursday, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. Winners will be announced online at CriticsChoice.com on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 9:00am PT/12:00pm ET.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”
In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.
It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.
Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”
