The Finola Hughes and Kathleen Gati Interview – General Hospital

43
I have so loved this whole s/l. Shows the talent of ALL involved. Bravo!
Oh, what a great and fun interview to read! Thank you. Kathleen seems like a marvelous and wonderful person in real life. She certainly is talented.
Aside from what was pontificated upon above, Robert and Anna enjoy a seamless, pitch perfect relationship underscored by their history and by natural chemistry. Those two really are the super spy couple.
I agree with you! The acting and writing is top-notch!!
Love both of these ladies!
Great interview. FH and KG have been brilliant, and fun to watch. I have noticed something in FH”s interviews, though. She never mentions TR in any complimentary fashion, unless they are actually doing an interview together, while KG in this one and AH in another one did. It’s become obvious and, at least to me, rather annoying and odd, especially since they’ve worked together closely these last 2 weeks. Just a random observation, but both ladies are indeed amazing on screen.
Agree. Not sure what’s up with FH but she definately doesn’t give TR any love in her interviews.
I remember when Rogers was on full-time in the ’80s and early ’90s, he often came off as kind of a pr**k in interviews. I don’t know if he was like that behind the scenes, but he did go through female co-stars rather quickly, unlike others that were part of one main supercouple (Frisco/Felicia, Sean/Tiffany, Luke/Laura, etc). Scorpio’s always been an ornery guy, maybe that’s art imitating life. Just a theory….
Two great actresses who seem genuinely nice and intelligent. I like the way they each gave kudos to each other as well as their fellow actors…and the stand-in/stuntwoman Anna.
It’s so much more fun to get into a story when you like the people playing the part…
Loving GH and by the sound of the interview there’s more fun to come!
What I love about RC is that he is not afraid to write for older actresses and have them front and center. Go, Anna and Dr. O!
Then the obvious question: Why doesn’t he write for Genie Francis? Poor Genie!
She has been treated so very shabbily by TPTB. She gave her all to that show; why can’t they write a story that does Genie and her character Laura justice?
Yes, GF should have a major place on this show and that goes all the way back to Guza, Frons, and JFP. The current GH cast needs some major cleaning in order to afford GF and the vets that we really want to see on our screen.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this interview!! I loved it, and I love both of these actresses! They are doing a phenomenal job! Tell them they have a legion of fans on the Facebook thread ‘All My Soaps’! We all watch live together every day at 2pm!!
Loved this interview with these amazing actresses!
Two lovely ladies…brilliant actresses playing two of my favorite daytime characters…and another great interview from daytimes greatest interviewer, Micheal Fairmen. Thanks Micheal!!!
This interview was as much fund to read as the show has been fun to watch with these two amazing ladies! Thanks!
I’ve been loving both these ladies, who are at the top of their game. I had to laugh, though, when Dr. O admitted to Robert and Anna that Faison wanted her to wear the Anna mask. The look on Tristan’s face was priceless! I’m also hoping to see more of Emma Samms as Holly, since she and Robert have such a special relationship. RC has handled the vets so well and that’s why the ratings have soared.
I love that Finola says that Anders is “unparalleled.’ He truly is one of the best actors around! Bring him back over from Denmark more often!
Such a great interview, thank you to all involved. Finola and Kathleen are great to watch on screen, the acting with all involved with this story has been amazing. 2 Anna’s fighting each other will now go down as one most favorite in GH history, kudos Finola for pulling it off. Along with that is Fake Anna pulling off the mask after she fooled Faison in prison; Finola’s facial expression as she was undoing the mask and Kathleen’s expression and acting after mask was off were amazing and so in sync! More of this is all I ask for, loving… Read more »
Awesome interview! Thx!
Thank you so much Michael!!! Great interview!!! How about Anders and Tristan??? I would love to see Anders and Finola in a video interview! These two women were great in the interview and are sheer perfection on screen! Anna doing Kathleen doing Dr. O doing Anna is and has been in every scene sheer perfection and delightfully creepy!!! Finola should win an Emmy!!! Kathleen has been so great as the delightfully campy, dark, crazy, and wildly weird villian… Dr. O. Can’t wait for each episode and with Anders and Tristan… well dreams do come true… they are so much fun… Read more »
Hi Heidi:
As for your request….. stand by on that one!
🙂
More soon!
Michael
Can’t wait… thanks… Michael!!!
Saw your tweet… Michael… can’t wait for your interview with Anders!!! Thank you!!! Don’t you just love him as Beetlejuice!!!
I think Anders uses his normal accent as Faison. There is a interview with him on Youtube, and he sounds just like he does on GH.
I have watched gh since hs, in the 80`s. Finola you are Amazing n I admire you for all of your hard work! Kathleen, IM very impressed with your work since you joined gh!!
These two amazing actresses are yet two more reasons I am so invested in GH these days. Anna can be maternal and comforting one minute and kick a$$ the next. Obrecht is a pure joyride of lunacy. Both Kathleen and her on-screen daughter’s portrayer Kelly Theibaud have added emotional layers and a minuscule amount of sympathy for characters who could have easily crossed over to the one dimensional and overly cartoonish. Britt may be a bitch, and Liesl may be a maniac, but vulnerability and humanity shine through from both performances. See, folks, this is why GH is so great:… Read more »
Agree completely… Jared about the fabulous characters on GH!!! They always have been! However… those fabulously intriquing characters would fall flat completely without the best cast portraying them and the best writing… writing for them!!! The characters are the best but the cast are also the best!!! Thanks GH!!!
I totally agree with you. I’m sorry I didn’t mention in my original post the stellar actors and behind-the-screen professionals who bring these interesting characters to life every day on GH. To change the subject a little bit, lately, I’ve been pondering what Y&R is missing, besides great writers and respectful and creative show runners. Y&R has an awesome cast that is equally as talented as GH’s. The characters over there, though, just aren’t that interesting. The characters in Genoa City are generally dull and vapid. I prefer to watch mad scientists, wrestling maids and nympho attorneys with shoe fetishes… Read more »
I agree again… Jared! I am watching Y&R and Adam has always been the most interesting character for me. I like the business emphasis that Y&R has but the same issues are used and they don’t go deep enough and get into the interesting creative stuff about that. They also do not go into the quirks. Compare the Chancellor house to the Quartermaines and there is some of the quirky dysfunction but not much. There is more angst and anger on Y&R… whereas at GH there is more intrique, deception, and mystrey along with a more multi-dimensional character that shows… Read more »
Wonderful, thorough interview, Michael. One of the BEST interviews ever!
I cant believe some fans think this story is dragging on. With so many layers, all performed so brilliantly, it truly has become, must see TV! Thank you Michael for such a great interview. Both actress’ as well the cast have continued to bring their “A” game. I loved Finola being Obrechts Anna. The facial expressions made me rewatch those scenes so many times….funny and brilliant at the same time. Anders Hove is a joy to watch. Terrifying but can make goo goo eyes at the baby playing Ben and make him giggle was hilarious. The chemistry between everybody is… Read more »
On the contrary, what is dragging on are those days that are Obrecht-free!!!! After witnessing the glorious Gati’s sheer splendor in bringing Dr. O. to lurid, lascivious life, dealing with the more pedestrian peeps of PC is such an exercise in banality! Somehow, someway “Cartini” must make this wild woman a contract player….she’s far too valuable to allow her get away…long live the “Magnificently Maniacal Mutter!”
Great interview. I remember scenes with Fiona and Anders in the 90’s on Cassadine Island. Even then there was this strange chemistry between the characters. And when Kathleen sang “Is That All There Is”, I was hooked. Too bad some of their performances can’t be submitted for best TV performances period, and not just daytime. And I know this will seem like it’s coming out of left field, but the Sheldon/Amy characters on the Big Bang Theory, while not devious, evil, and sick, seem to have the same genius, interpersonal relationship skills as the Faison/Doc O characters.
Thanks for the interview! Love reading about the three characters/actors and their reaction to the writing and the directing. That storyline is just awesome! 🙂
“Ze clamps?” And here I thought that it was just my fertile imagination that the Wagnerian wench was suggesting something kinky!!! Glad to know it wasn’t ME…. those two Teutonic terrors truly did transmit a touch of the (Euro)trash S&M vibe….LOL!
Nothing is being dragged out. What Ron and Frank have discovered as the storyline has progressed, is the deep layers to these characters as revealed by these amazing actors. They are running with the opportunity provided by superlative actors with extraordinary chemistry. Folks, let’s face it, we are privileged to have Finola, Kathleen, and Anders on our screens now and won’t have them together for long, as the Robin story will reach its climax, rendering Faison and Obrecht casualties of the storyline’s conclusion. I, for one, am going to be devastated when we lose Kathleen and Anders, as I am… Read more »
Agree completely!!! Well said Tristan!!!
‘applause’
Ron and Frank have discovered as the storyline has progressed, is the deep layers to these characters as revealed by these amazing actors.
the keen intellect actors have in their arsenal is riveting…. and sharing their command is key, they feed off of… steer and drive it home
chemistry is all explained here…. when they both state… give me that eye contact and give and take layers
aplomb
Great interview! Sounds like it’s going to be fun on GH!
Michael great interview. These actors are actors. They do their jobs and seem to give more than the scripts say. I usually don’t root for the bad guys. jerry Jacks for instance. But .I understand why the story has to slow down. Ratings and November sweeps. Gati makes me laugh, I felt sorry for her when Faison told her to put on the mask. This part of the show is great. I can even enjoy Robert and Anna in the lab. At first I was angry at FrankenRon because these are our Super Spies. But we are getting some great… Read more »
It’s great to have Anna,Obrecht,Robert,Faison,Robin,Nicholas and other fan fav’s on screen. I love the pacing of the storyline’s and the acting has been great! And at least GH did not have to kill off a child like Y&R to keep viewers watching!
Great interview! I’m so very glad that Finola has been given some strong dialogue/plot lines.
Again, it begs the question: why not Genie?????????????????????
