‘Timeless’ Toni Storm Recaptures the Women’s Title at AEW Grand Slam Australia; Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega Impressive in Tag Victory
Toni Storm is ‘timeless’, and in her home country of Australia, Storm became the first four-time AEW Women’s champion, during one of the best cards and shows from the company on Saturday’s AEW Grand Slam Australia which aired on TNT and streamed on MAX.
Bout to Bout, the taped two-hours moved by in a quick pace (even though it started 20 minutes late thanks to NBA All-Star Weekend Saturday), led by the opener featuring the Aerial Assassin, Will Ospreay and the returning former AEW champion and icon, Kenny Omega vs. Don Callis family stable mates, Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita.
In a twist, just a few weeks ago, Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay found themselves fighting a common enemy in Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher. Together, Omega and Ospreay scaled a lighting rig and in that moment realized they could count on each other against their common enemies. Hence, the tag match was born for AEW Grand Slam Australia. Now below, here are the results and the breakdown and our grade for each of the five matches on the card.

Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega vs. Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita
The entrances of Ospreay and Omega alone generated much excitement from the crowd in attendance in Brisbane, Australia. In fact, the crowd was chanting “This is Awesome” before the action in the ring even began.
AEW knew that all four competitors could deliver high-flying moves, counters and more, and that’s exactly what happened in this almost thrill-a-minute tag match. However, in the end and after interference from Don Callis himself backfired, Ospreay and Omega combined their finishers to get the pin on Takeshita. Afterwards, the two stars hugged it out in celebration with their arms raised in victory. GRADE A
Mercedes Mone vs. Harley Cameron

Courtesy/AEW
For pure entertainment value, you can’t beat Cameron, who can wrestle, sing, act, is seemingly a ventriloquist, and has exceptional comedic timing. Pitting the Aussie-native in a match agains the wily veteran ‘four-belts’ Mercedes Mone, was a pretty genius idea to get her even more over with the crowd.
In their match for the TBS Women’s Championship Mone was not about to lose her title to what she deems the likes of Cameron. However, in a hilarious moment, Harley reached under the ring apron and pulled out her puppet, “Mini Mone!” In fact, ‘Mini’ was with her during several moments of the match infuriating the real CEO! Eventually, Mercedes pulled off the win and retained her TBS title. GRADE B+
Death Riders (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli ) vs. Jay White and The Rated-R Superstar,”Cope”
The best part of this segment of the show was the crowd singing Adam Copeland’s theme song to him full-on for minutes, while he took it all in from the center of the ring, which clearly made him emotional.

Courtesy/AEW
However, this was a match we could have done without. It served no purpose than only to continue the feud. During this match billed as the “Brisbane Brawl,” there are no rules and no DQ. The wrestlers beat each other up into the crowd, put each other through tables, used a barbed-wire laced chair and more.
Death Riders stable mate, Wheeler Yuta interfered in the match and used a belt to whip the back of Jay White, which ultimately pissed White off so much he went on the attack. In the end, it was the Moxley who literally choked Cope out until he passed out to gain the victory. GRADE C-
Kazuchika Okada vs. Buddy Matthews
In yet another home country heroes welcome, Buddy Matthews returned to the land down under to face Okada for the AEW Continental Championship. At the beginning of the match, “The Rainmaker” Okada ignored a handshake and flipped Matthews off with the finger and the match was on.
Matthews showcased why he is anomaly in the pro wrestling game for his sheer size combined with this athletic speed and prowess. The crowd was clearly behind Buddy and at one point it was all too much for Okada, who took his belt and walked out, only to have Matthews chase him down and get him back in the ring.

Courtesy/AEW
It took a low blow to Matthews that the referee didn’t see that allowed Okada to use his patented, “Rainmaker” to defeat the Aussie favorite. AEW should take a look at just how phenomenal a singles competitor Buddy Matthews is and plan some matches and a storyline accordingly. GRADE B
Mariah May vs. Toni Storm
This was it! The main event and in “Timeless” Toni Storm’s home country. Could she win back the title after the betrayal of her once protege Mariah May who double-crossed her in a such a calculated manner? “The Glamour” was certainly not about to let Storm walk all over her. This match certainly was more brutal and more of a slugfest than their previous outing at AEW All In London, where Storm dropped the title to May.

Courtesy/AEW
However, in the end, Storm was able to pin May, 1,2,3. In the huge payoff moment in the show, “Timeless” Toni regained her championship belt for the fourth-time. May was beside herself at the ring apron, as Storm celebrated with the crowd as the show went off the air. GRADE B+
OVERALL: This show was a jam-packed entertaining two hours and “Timeless” Toni Storm winning back her title was indeed “Cinema!” However, the match that stole the show was indeed Ospreay and Omega vs. Fletcher and Takeshita. GRADE A-
Now below, watch the moment when “Timeless” Toni Storm defeats “The Glamour,” Mariah May for the AEW Women’s title at AEW Grand Slam Australia. Then let us know, what you thoughts of the matches, and the atmosphere coming out of Brisbane via the comment section.
