Y&R’s Eric Braeden Is “Excited About New Storyline” Involving Victor!
Over the past few days the outspoken icon of The Young and the Restless, Eric Braeden, has taken to social media to let his thoughts be known, but also to clarify where he has been and some good news for Victor Newman fans!
Looks like Braeden is back from an extended vacation and now enthusiastic about what is to come in the months ahead with a tease of an invigorated storyline.
Eric tweeted: “I was on a vacation, didn’t tell them I’d be back until last minute and am now very excited about new storyline!! No one else’s fault but mine!! Be patient a little longer! It’s a hell of a storyline!!”
Previously, Braeden had sounded off about a CBS.com video ditty which asked current cast members about the legacy of Y&R and being a part of it, when longtime stars, Jess Walton, Tracey E. Bregman, Doug Davidson, Christian LeBlanc and others were not part of the interviews in the featurette.
However, Melody Thomas Scott, Joshua Morrow, Peter Bergman, Camryn Grimes were included. The tweet seem to be directed to the inclusion of Jordi Vilasuso who plays Rey and is new to the cast, who offered up his sentiments about being part of the top-rated series, and who also tweeted back to Braeden meaning no disrespect to the show since he was asked to participate in the video.
So, what do you think will be Victor’s new storyline on Y&R? Share your ideas for a plot for the mighty moustache via the comment section below.
I am hoping it involves Michael Muhney (Adam). Now that would be one hell of a shock and miracle.
You hope it involves a sexual predator returning to the show…says more about you than it does about Y&R.
That accusation was never proven but a mans career was ruined funny how an accusation not proven can ruin a career or someone’s life! But the man is better off what a total mess this show is
I agree , Maddy , with your statement.
Actually.. that is not true..
Michael Muhney was never accused by CBS or Hunter of anything, not once and by no one was it ever said or charged..
It was a rumor that was started by a fan that spread like a wild fire and she was tracked down..
Eric said he noted MM firing as being because of his in house fighting and his chest pounding to over take Eric.
It was never said by CBS, Hunter, all that MM did as gossip accused, he was never accused by CBS anyone.
Michael apologised to Eric And everyone involved .He always
Stands up for Hunter when she is bullyed anout this.
That was a lie from a cyberbully from Florida ,Both MM and H K were, both Victims of this liar .And Michael should be back l
I had not heard that. Who is that cyberbully? And why did he/she start this terrible rumor?
CBS never publicly made a statement about Muhney and those accusations. And by the way, the accuser had her butt and chest hanging out on the show at the pool this SUMMER on Y&R. Its hypocrisy at its best! Michael Muhney deserves a return!
I just commented about that earlier, Timmm. What a true mess!
This show is on fire right now!!!!! Best it has EVER been!!!!!!!
Certain parts of it is on fire; the rest is for the birds. However, they probably will reject it, too!
Not much thought on the story that will be coming in the future. Just glad to have the heart, albeit black, back and wishing everyone a GOOD DAY with that evil stare over his mustache!
as he lauds his own laureate … trumpets his belong.. owning his own dead beat
Victor is what ruined this show… his trampling of all
he has no need to be on this show any “more”… if Mal Young is indeed cleaning house and “letting go” veteran status.. why not eric Braedon… he’s a loss
he has no following on the show.. Victoria , Nick, oh god.. Summer.. Abby ???
he can leer get a hard on
done with Victor
Eric is the show! If he leaves , the show is dullsville. Mal needs to write Victor as the strong and powerful character that he is!
I love how outspoken Mr. Braeden is, and how he defends the Vets of the show, unlike some actors on General Hospital. When Laura Wright was asked about Genie Francis’ departure, she replied back that she didn’t know about it. Yeah. Ok. But, she knew about the part that her out of work boyfriend would play, and the character’s backstory. She’s got to keep Frank in her back pocket so that he continues to write for her one-note boyfriend!
Anyway, kudos to Mr. Braeden!
Oh, AVP, I’m glad you mentioned poor Laura Wright’s affliction: her “boyfriend”. Boyfriend? Are we in high school? And EVERY interview she or WR give is riddled with references to each other, like puppy love. It’s not very becoming for people to constantly thrust their infatuations on us at whatever age. On the upside, Eric Braeden always shows his professional side and it’s very refreshing. I hope Victor’s new tale is less venom and more heart. One can dream.
I wonder if the break-up will be in EVERY soap publication? The guy went to Juilliard, and needed his girlfriend to get him a daytime gig. Doesn’t say much about his talent.
The love is good; however, the venom is better. Give me some of both. Powerful people in reality had to use some toughness in their climb up the ladder.
Have they finally canned Mal Young like a tuna?? That would make me and millions of others “excited” as well!!
#FIREMALYOUNG!!
There are millions of us who love his writing and ecstatic he is here.
OMGosh. How much is Young paying you?
Name one other,please!
I love Mals work ,So does Eric ,
Look forward to a new Victor story line…but only if it includes Adam. It’s way past time to bring this character back.
Leave the regular cast alone ! You are ruining this once great soap
I think this article misses a key point about Braeden’s tweeted criticism of the “legacy” video. Every actor mentioned in Braeden’s tweet (with the exception of the actress who played Hillary) appeared for decades on the show but (voluntarily or not) presently is no longer under contract — either rarely appearing now or not at all.
I am not a mind reader but it seems to me that Braeden’s comment was a criticism of the current focus of the show (which generally appears to be a deliberate effort to minimize the veteran characters and to highlight younger/newer characters). I do NOT interpret Braeden to be personally attacking the actor who plays Rey (although the actor himself appears to have viewed it as such) but, rather, criticism directed at a higher level (the head writer and producer).
If my interpretation of Braeden’s comment is correct, I personally agree with him. It was not that long ago that 50-year old ATWT was cancelled after its producers and writers did exactly what the Y&R regime currently appears to be doing: Minimizing (or, worse, canning) the veteran actors and focusing on new, youthful characters. I vividly remember watching years of ATWT’s episodes, pining for a mere scene with 50-year veteran Lisa Grimaldi, while having to endure countless (and painful) plots and scenes of the new Janet and daughter Liberty. I stuck with ATWT until the end but my “love” of it had evaporated far earlier. The “chore” of watching countless, uninteresting episodes focused on the likes of Katie, Janet and Liberty just to witness a single scene of Lisa sitting in a coffee shop wore me out. On the one hand, I hated to see ATWT go. On the other hand, I was glad that the “chore” of watching its inferior version was over.
Y&R has been in a bad state for more than a decade. The revolving door of producers and writers has significantly damaged the show. The writing has not been consistent; new characters have been introduced and suddenly ditched when their creators have been fired; the personalities of various character appear to simply change overnight (Ex: When exactly did former grifter/heroine Chelsea decide to become a grifter again?). The ONE constant in all of this has been the veteran actors (such as Braeden, Eileen Davidson, Doug Davidson, Jess Walton) whose characters are so entrenched in the show. These characters are the “Lisa Grimaldis” of Y&R. If a show “ditches” or minimizes these characters, what exactly will it have left?? Let’t be honest. Rey and his family are NOT going to a ton of new, younger viewers. I don’t see ratings dramatically increasing because of these people (especially when the writing for the show is not strong). On other hand, I easily could see a ratings collapse if the show abandons the veteran characters/actors responsible for decades of its success.
As the current regime appears to be focusing on Rey and his family while 40-year veteran character Paul Williams can’t get a “good bye scene” and veteran actors like Eileen Davidson and Jess Walton have simply walked away from the show, what the heck is a long-time viewer suppose to think? I saw a similar scenario play out a decade ago with ATWT and definitely do not want to see it again.
I’m not advocating for never introducing new characters. The show needs “fresh blood” for its future. The new characters, however, have to be slooooowly brought onto the scene and intermixed with the existing ones. (Bringing the entire Rey family on within a 9 month period is too fast!). Moreover, you don’t bring one of them on and put him in the exact same job that Paul Williams had for years — while ditching Paul and never explaining his absence. This just won’t work.
I have absolutely NO experience as a soap producer or writer. I do not know first-hand the demands of those jobs. However, I am a veteran soap watcher and immediately can recognize what works and what won’t. If a long-time viewer can see this, why the heck can’t the veteran producers and writers?
Obviously your interpretation is sorely flawed. Jess for instance has stated publicly for the past few years she wants to work less rather than more. As a actor and real person like us she wants her senior years to be hers to decide. Eileen as well, she wants to spend her senior years with her teen son and her husband and so she should. Neither were pushed out. CHOICES were made by the actors. Paul …well what’s to say. His character is boring and has been for many years now. He is a decent actor but not great. The actors and new residents of GC bring some good acting and relevancy to life today in a city. So far their stories are progressing with the excitement and intrigue this soap truly needs. This is not happening to y&r in isolation. The other two hour long soaps are experiencing loss of vets, a change in head writers over and over and in contrast to y&r storylines that are so bland or so bizarre to be believable the channel changer needs to be handy. Soaps are our entertainment but make no mistake, for CBS/SONY they are a business and in business cutthroat decisions in employees are made on a daily business. All of this bitching and complaining about inside issues fans no nothing about will only serve to put this soap on the road to termination so be very careful in what you wish for. I am a viewer since 1973 but I also understand the need to keep the target audience of ages 18-49 watching and enjoying. I have aged with the veterans and I understand the need to be relevant with the target age group. As a retiree I still love my soap.
Well, it is the Young and the restless..
decades back they were the young and now the younger are being cast and upfront being true to the soap, the ‘Young’ and the restless.
A good move, actually.
out with old in with the new ..
I miss Ravi ..
I love my Soaps, too, and I’m trying to keep them alive. However, the old and young should be able to thrive together without getting rid of the seasoned stars. These producers and owners don’t think too much of themselves since they are part of this old crowd. Are they saying that they are unnecessary or not worth counting?
All go to soap heaven be done with them they all are beginning to believe the hype just go away
Thank you. I agree totally.
Bravo to everything that you stated.
I have missed Victor..
((happy dance hes back ))
looking forward to ,hopefully, his dirty deeds !!
It would be a treat a whoopee moment to have Nikki and Victor in a hot sex screen getting hot and nasty, now that would show the oldies but goodies still get it going..
really, think on it- an unforgettable moment, for sure..
Oh, SuOOO, after I just sided with you about Laura on GH, you throw this curve ball. I may be old, but not dead, and the thought of Victor and Nicki between the sheets, of which I have seen many times over the years, is burning an image in these old eyes, I don’t like the old guy, with his grizzly face and long greasy, stringy hair, makes me shudder. Nicki, could always keep her eyes closed, I guess as she remembers her time with Arturo, so it shouldn’t be a total waste.
It has to involve Adam. It’s time the character came back. Wanna really stretch it? How about Adam is found with Drucilla. I still need some kind of closure as to her taking that fall but no body being found.
i’d love … L – O – V – E .. for Drucilla to clean house and just dynasty money bags Devon cache… can we say spend tramp and swing
as for, bringing back this show to light up a frenzy… of course.. how dullard can we be… Michael Muhney would enliven every thing… God.. Mal Young.. FIGHT for what you need… FIGHT
otherwise.. you can wallow in the scrutiny of critics and what’s up to par and scale.. from the censor.. which on your show currently.. is dire..
FIRE Gina Tognoni : her tired pursed lips has left me bereft.. dag.. you’d never know who won that emmy .. she smiles.. she laughs.. she sparked some emotion.. since , before and therefore… her act stinks.. she stinks of what Michelle Stafford left behind…
gone
Traci will be Victors sister and Rey will be his son.
Surely you jest.
An idea I’ve had is that he is reunited with someone he knew at the orphanige he grew up in (played by Bruce Weitz). This person comes off as friendly and self-deprecating at first but it is later revealed that he is very resentful of Victor and his success. We learn this resentment comes from something that Victor had to do to survive but may be very unethical. Will they find peace? Will there be a major conflict? Pehaps there is a misunerstanding at play?
I hope to see a plot along these lines.
Good luck to all of them but I had to sign off actors screaming who they want to be paired with storylines changed I wish all of them the best ! Very sad for Doug D but it’s show biiz
If mr braeden truly cares about this soap that he has been a big part of since 1980 and his character has been loved and hated then help the fans that kept you number one and employed for years and fight with us !!! Use that booming voice and fight a EP that you know in your heart is destroying a loved soap ! Please stand up for the fans and help us save this show MY is ruining it
Personally, I would not be upset in the least if Eric Braeden never returned. I haven’t missed him at all.
The show has survived…and thrived…without him, so I say, “Stay away!”
