Y&R’s Mark Grossman and Linden Ashby Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’
Two men delivered two very different types of performances, and both on The Young and the Restless, and their work stood out to us among the rest as the Power Performances of the Week.
First, there was the heart-tugging work of Mark Grossman, as Adam Newman is faced with an impossible situation when Sally’s (Courtney Hope) pregnancy goes terribly south. Suffering from preeclampsia, Adam tried to keep Sally calm while Nick (Joshua Morrow) was away trying to save Sharon (Sharon Case) and Faith (Reylynn Caster) from the clutches of the vengeful and delusional, Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby).
Adam was armed with the fact that things were very dangerous on Nick’s end, and that his brother asked him to please not tell Sally anything about it, or her blood pressure might sky rocket. Honoring his brother’s wishes, Adam did not divulge just how bad things were for Nick and company. Things took a terrible turn when in pain, Sally had to be taken to the hospital. Once there, Sally became unconscious and Adam learned from Elena (Brytni Sapry), that they had to rush Sally into surgery. And there was more …. they had to deliver the baby stat, and there is a good chance either the baby or Sally might not survive. When posed the question of who’s life should they try to save first, Adam chose Sally in a heartbreaking move. As Sally wakes up after her surgery, she asks about her baby, and Adam prepares himself to tell her the worst news a mother would want to hear.

Throughout the scenes, Mark Grossman made us feel Adam’s hurt, his inner conflict, his desperation (especially calling Nick and Victor), made all the more heartbreaking by him wanting to name the baby after his mother, Hope. Sometimes in soaps, it’s the subtle performances that are the best kind, and the kind that make us reach for the hankies. The part of Adam is so complex, but in these scenes we were reminded why Mark Grossman can play all the intricacies of the character and still make the audience deeply care for the guy.
As for Michael Fairman TV’s other choice for Power Performance of the Week, you got to give it up for the bad guy! Linden Ashby took our accolades in the sheer volume and enormity of Friday’s episode of Y&R, where with a ton of dialog, Ashby took us inside the mind of the deeply-troubled ex-con.

Cameron’s diatribe while holding Faith hostage (under a tunnel and in the Genoa City sewage system) was quite brilliant, as he goes from saying why he is the only man for Sharon, to how her life is reduced to serving coffee to a bunch of losers, and how he could make her so much happier. However, he flips, and also calls Sharon a ‘bitch’ and pretty much is scaring a tied-up Faith to death. The guy goes full ‘creepsville’ when he takes out a piece of a garment of Sharon’s and sniffs it, claiming that, “God help him, he still loves her.”
Later, he even admits to Faith that he is sorry he killed her cat and that she has an SOB for a father in Nick. When Cameron aims to let Faith have a sip of water, she spits it in his face, and he threatens her with, “You should not have done that!” When Nick and Sharon arrive on the scene, Cameron holds Sharon at knife point, only to be stabbed by Sharon instead with a bomb about to go off strapped to Faith.

Sometimes, out and out playing the villain can bring you accolades, and it’s been twenty years since Linden Ashby has embodied the role of the abusive Cameron, and his return is as if he didn’t miss a beat. Great delivery of some juicy lines, while playing the rejection of a man so in love with a woman he literally can’t tell right from wrong, and that’s an understatement, showcased the actor.

Both men’s acting partners, Courtney Hope with Mark Grossman, and Sharon Case with Linden Ashby, also delivered stellar work that only elevated the two actors scenes.
So, what do you think of our picks for Power Performances of the Week? Do you agree with our kudos for Mark and Linden? Comment below. But first ICYMI check out our livestream conversation with Sharon Case and Linden Ashby.
Sorry, I was unable to appreciate the acting abilities of Linden Ashby due to the Psycotic and violent nature of this deranged animal. I guess that what made his acting good, huh?
As far as Mark Grossman, he delivered his usual top-notch performance. I’m not really one of his fans, as Adam goes I’ve only cared for M.M the one they railroaded off of Y&Y, never to be heard or seen from again, very sad and unfair. What is the saying about the accusers being worse than the accused?
Mm will always be my favorite. Grossman gets another new leading lady I guess he will be carrying on with her off screen I hear he has broke up with CH first Case then Hope . Hilarious
Well, considering his age and Case’s—- of course they have broken up. —not because people’s relationships with such great age difference could not last, but most men would like children. Sharon is past her childbearing years.—there’s that!!
Would that be something if faith was really Cameron’s. And wouldn’t it be something it come to pass that Sally’s baby did not die. That maybe Victor or somebody had something to do with it to take the baby because he does not like Sally and did not want all of that interference. I just don’t understand why they would write in that Sally is pregnant and then take the baby away something’s up with this I feel the baby is alive and Elena is or is not in on it Elena may have a dark side but I feel Victor maybe has something to do with it. When Adam called Victor he had not asked about where Nick was yet but Victor asked him was something wrong with Sally and the baby how did he know this already did anyone catch this? I feel down the road that it will come out that faith is Cameron’s. Chance will probably get with Summer. Diane and Tucker are in it together to take over zabot. They are using the abbots. What does everybody else think?
Wow..i love your possible outcomes
May i add that character Sharon, actress i real life. should take acting classes.
That said. So should Peter Beraman
Biting your lip and playing with your fingers are just AWFULLY HORRIBLE ACTING
The test of the cast are Great
Top of the list. ADAM.
How long have you been watching Y&R?? Sharon Case and Peter Bergman are GREAT Acters/actress, (IMO).
I feel Adam did great acting the best on the situation with Sally about the baby and this baby may not be died.Victor came to her and asked her for this baby offered her money she refused.Curious of how this works out.
Kelli,
I totally agree with your outcome of y&r . That would be really really good. You should be on the writer team.
I think you should quit your day job and consider screen writing! Excellent ideas to shake up the show that to me is in a little slump.
So tired of the Diane and Philis and Jack story
SO AM I!!
Very possible, Kelli. It’s a soap where these scenarios have been unfolding since the beginning of “soaptime”.
Yes I agree I love Adam he is my favorite and Mark did a great job
Great acting on both these men Performance.Y and R
I agree Adam was awesome.a Adam fan
Yes he did!! Mark is one of my FAVORITES on Y&R.
Absolutely great performances from both especially from Mark. So heart breaking events. Brought tears for me.
I know you have to keep our attention in some way but as usual the police in general is horrible. This never would have gotten this far if only they listen.
As for Sally losing the baby, why was that taken away from Adam. For you all to write Sally will get mad at Adam and blaming him is wrong. I would had love to have seen Adam Bond with a girl and for Connor to have learn to be a big brother. So once again (Connor) he has to deal with messed up grown up stuff.
The Phyllis, Summer, and Kyle situation needs to end but not with Kyle under the sheets with Audra. When are these shows going to ever stop resolving and creating relationship problems with sex. That’s how Summer got here; then years later the children has to adapt to the choices of their parents.
I TOTALLY AGREE!!
Both actors gave heartfelt performances. “Cameron”. was definitely the consummate psychopath. “Adam” is REALLY trying hard to be the good guy. His LOVE for Sally is so genuine!
Yes I agree! Greating acting by both! I love Adam and hope he & Sally will end up together. Nick can go back to Sharon and his family. Chance might be a good fit for Summer. What about Kyle? NOT AUDRA!
I share your thoughts 100%. I wanted Sally and Adam to be together. Nick and Sharon I have wanted them together for years.
I Believe Nick will be a good fit with Alana
Yes put nick with Audra but let nick be the guy that makes Audra want to be a good person
I just love the way Mark plays Adam, he came in and never missed a beat. Great job keep it up and you are nice on the eyes also
Adam and Cameron did a great job with their scenes as did Sharon and Sally and Nick and Faith!! But I understand the show wanting to bring preeclampsia to light but “darn” !! Wish Sally could have had her baby!!!!
I think Sally’s performance when she found out about her daughter was SPOT ON!! She made me FEEL her heartache. We’ll done!! Deserves an Emmy for that performance!!
Loved Mark Grossman performance, he made me cry when I saw his expression making a decision of life & death. Great performance
Sally starting eating a lot–Adam is comforting her–after about 20 pounds, tasteless remarks start coming—Then a visit to the doctor reveals: she and Adam are expecting twins!
Would not work…not fair to ask the lady so dedicated to staying trim to add 20 pounds–might take 30 to make it believable–she never did look very pregnant with her recent baby.
Great performances by everyone.
Mark Grossman (Adam) has made Adam his own. Very good actor.
I am still reeling at the lightning pace at which the Cameron “story” bulldozed along. What was the hurry? All the story beats…skipped. No Mariah / Tessa & newly adopted baby-in-danger. No substantive Nicki / Victor scenes.
I love that Sharon (and Nick) were front-burner…for a couple of weeks but, wow.
So glad Cameron is gone, again ! And hopefully for good this time ! There really was no need for him to return for his short lived come back !! He was really gross and creepy !! Buh bye !!
Really? I’d think Courtney Hope deserves those accolades, no? I wonder if this was her good-bye performance?
Ok LA had a limited time to do this story has said that millions of times . Was it rushed yes but his performance was great finally we had a villian . I’m sad that JG won’t write for a young group but so it goes so Faith exits today. I’m probably going to pass on the show now
I definitely agree with your assessment of Mark Grossman’s performance! He always delivers stellar performances, but never gets accolades or acknowledgment for it, so thank you!
I agree with you one BILLION percent!!
Looking forward to Victoria gets her Karma!!!
Mark Grossman is fabulous ! He is the best Adam ever !! Hate that Victor ALWAYS favors Victoria and Nicholas over Adam !!! After Victoria almost destroyed Newman, Victor still allows her to be in charge. The storyline is absolutely beyond stupidity!!It makes Victor look like Victoria’s lapdog !!
Days Of Our Lives
DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena Looks Back at 50 Years in Salem

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.
To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE
From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.
Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall). Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.
In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.
Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)
Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.
JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL
Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!
The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE
When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.
As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.
An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.
So, what did you think of Marlena’s walk down memory lane? Were you happy to see the flashback clips utilized throughout? Were you touched by the scenes and the performance of Deidre Hall? Let us know what you thought of Deidre’s 50th anniversary episode via the comment section below.
General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sidwell Surfaces; A Twist in Britt’s Condition

On the Thursday, June 18 episode of General Hospital, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) makes his shocking return right in Port Charles, after fleeing (thanks to Cassius) to supposedly parts unknown to escape capture for trying to kill Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis).
How does he show up in town? First, Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) gets a text from Jacinda (Paige Herschell) to meet in his hotel room. Ezra thinks the two are going to have a sexcapade so he puts champagne on ice for his favorite escort.
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. Ezra’s excitement turns towards fear as instead of Jacinda, Sidwell is standing in front of him. Next, Sidwell blackmails Boyle telling him he has plenty of leverage he can use against him. Sidwell wants to use Ezra to help him takedown, Sonny (Maurice Benard), Lucas, Laura (Genie Francis) and Cullum.

ARE SIDWELL’S DAYS NUMBERED?
Meanwhile, Sonny confides in his brother, Ric (Rick Hearst). He says he knows who killed Marco an he is going to use that intel to lure Sidwell out of hiding. Sonny also shares he is going to kill Sidwell, and handle this by himself. He gave the PCPD a chance, but they failed to nab Sidwell for good and lock him up.
Sonny also has been tracking the whereabouts of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Rocco (Finn Carr) through Brick, and learned they took a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then boarded a fairy to take them somewhere off the island.

Courtesy/ABC
BRITT’S ‘SYMPTOMS’ RETURN
Turns out, Britt and Rocco are hiding out in the British Virgin Islands. Britt set up Rocco with a burner phone and a VPN on her tablet, that is not traceable. Rocco reads on the tablet about Lucas’ shooting. Britt starts to have the shakes and passes out. When she comes to, Britt won’t let Rocco call a doctor, but he uses his phone to step on the balcony and call Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and ask for help. Charlotte looks shocked to hear from her brother as Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) looks on!

Courtesy/ABC
However, Joe (Jonathan Bennett) could be the one to put two and two together! While at General Hospital and after questioning Lucas about a syringe he found that was in someone’s possession. the toxicology report showed traces of saline solution, not actual medication. He asks Dr. Jones, why someone would inject themselves with saline? Lucas responds saline is harmless and would have no effect on someone.
So, does this mean that this entire time, Britt has been led to believe that the medication she was taking to treat her Huntington’s disease was placebo? Has Britt been lied to into believing she is dying? Is something else wrong with her instead?
Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below, and if you are ready for Sidwell to finally get his comeuppance from Sonny! But first, watch the scenes where Sidwell comes out of hiding and blackmails Ezra Boyle.
General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and ‘Nathan’ Have It Out, Valentin and Carly Share Passionate Moments Which May Be Their Last
On the June 16 episode of General Hospital, the PCPD under acting police commissioner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is in a bit of mess and does not go unnoticed by ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor).
First, there is the whole Chase (Josh Swickard) defending Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) over Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), who he arrested for allegedly tossing Willow in the waters next to the Quartermaine boathouse. Turner has had it with Chase’s good guy act and how he tampered with evidence in her case against Willow for shooting Drew.
Later, Dante and Justine question “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) about Sidwell’s escape while in his custody. Turner is not buying his cover story that he was ambushed by Sidwell and his men. Once “Nathan” left the interrogation room, Turner went in on Dante about having “Nathan” on the force after seven years away, and Chase she views as a “dirty cop.”
However, Dante defends both of his officers, but Justine warned that “Nathan” and Chase’s behavior would reflect poorly on Dante as commissioner and she should really think about that. Later, Dante has a terse confrontation with “Nathan” on how he botched a prison transport and that he better watch his back as Justine is one step away from turning this over to Internal Affairs.
COP MADNESS
Next, “Nathan” apologizes for the way he handled the situation with Rocco and says he feels badly. But then in the twist, Dante said that he was grateful that “Nathan” had been there for his son in his time of need (referencing after Rocco shot Cullum and covered it up).
Then, there’s the newest police officer in the precinct, Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett). He may actually be on to “Nathan’s” double life when he questions him about a syringe found in Britt’s room at Bobbie’s. “Nathan” made up a story to counter Joe’s, that he was not aware that his sister was taking anything for her Huntington’s disease diagnosis. Joe called the forensic department lab wanting to know what drug was exactly in the syringe.

BEFORE YOU GO
At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) tells her that he must travel to Geneva to speak to the head of the WSB, named Z. Valentin feels it’s the only way to save Josslyn if he informs Z about Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) being a double agent. Valentin shares with Carly that he has to stop Cullum from bringing his dangerous cold fusion device online. Carly is beside herself. She doesn’t want Valentin to sacrifice himself by turning himself into the organization who has made him a fugitive in the first place. Valentin stands firm that he must meet Z in person.
Knowing that revealing himself to the WSB meant he was likely going back to prison, Valentin asked Carly if she’d get in touch with his daughter, Charlotte so he could say good-bye to her. Next, Carly and Valentin make their way to the bedroom to make love, which may be for the very last time, if Valentin is caught and put back in Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.

Courtesy/ABC
CAUGHT BY CULLUM
At the same time while at Wydemere, Cullum is talking with one of his WSB operatives. Now, he is pondering if Valentin and Sidwell were working together all along. Next, Cullum entertains the idea of involving the FBI to locate Britt and Rocco. He says he plans to kill them both once he knows of their whereabouts. Cullum sees the only other threat to the completion of the cold fusion project to be Anna Devane.
Cullum wants to track the location of the unidentified person who called the private clinic in France trying to get in touch with Anna, while pretending to be Kevin Collins. When the agent came back with a report, he says it emanated from a cell tower near Shoreline Road. It’s in the that moment that a light bulb goes on for Cullum! Valentin is in Port Charles and hiding at Carly’s!
So, what do you think of the PCPD cops, Chase, Joe and “Nathan?” Who should Dante fire? Do you think Valentin will go the run?Are you digging Carly and Valentin’s relationship and want it to continue, especially with Finola Hughes on her way back as Anna next month on-screen? Weigh-in via the comment section, and in case you missed it, you can check out our latest interview with Dominic Zamprogna below from his appearance on the Michael Fairman Channel, where he talks the PCPD cops, Rocco on the run, and more.
