Nicholas Chavez Confirms Exit From General Hospital

Photo: IMDb

On Friday May 3rd, it was confirmed by Nicholas Chavez that he has indeed left his role as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital.

Taking to his account on X, Chavez shared some heartfelt goodbyes to the cast, the creatives and the fans of the ABC daytime drama series. This comes after months of speculation and reports that Chavez is not returning to his Daytime Emmy-winning role.

Chavez left the soap to go film his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix limited series, Monsters: The The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and in story on GH, Spencer went overboard on a boat, when he was drugged by Esme (Avery Pohl) on the Seine River in France. His body and Esme’s thus far have never been found.

In his heartfelt message on X, Nicholas expressed, “I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that GH gave me, and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors. Frank Valentini is a mentor and a friend, and we’ve had some pretty extensive conversations about my future on the show.”

Sharing his thoughts on if the would ever come back to GH, Chavez added, “While there are no current plans for me to return, we are still talking very openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.”

Finally, Nicholas shared,”Beyond the people I’ve already mentioned, I want to take some time to thank and honor the GH fan base… especially the Sprina fans… who must be THE most loyal and kind fan base in the universe of entertainment. Words fail to show the depth of my gratitude, thank you, I love you all very, very much.”

Nicholas took over the role of Spencer previously played by Nicolas Bechtel, in July of 2021, and his last episode aired on January 31st, 2024.  In April, reports surfaced that the actor was not returning to GH after all.

Too little, too late. His “exit” was confirmed weeks ago when ABC removed him from the contract players’ credits. There really wasn’t any other confirmation needed after that, lol.

No surprise when Netflix got a hold of him! Guess another daytime Emmy is not in the cards. Thanks for the GH memories! Appears the new head writers have their work cut out for them.

Nicholas Chavez will be missed, but I knew when he won his first Emmy a few years back and how as portrayal of Spencer he would be noticed and he was for the Netflix project. I see him doing great things. Maybe someday he will be back, but I think that is doubtful. Best of luck to you, Mr. Chavez!

I won’t miss him. I wish him well but there are plenty of young actors who would appreciate having a job.

God bless all you do GH hs truly paved the way for you to embark on new exciting things your future holds for you.

I wished that Chavez was coming back he will be greatly missed from GH may God bless him Hope he will come back

Should come as no surprise. Seems like the new writers don’t care to write for the cassadines anyway

I’ll miss the chemistry between him and trina it seem real ,good luck Nicolas (Spencer).

yeah, he’s not returning GH let him take time off for this extra project and he didn’t commit to finishing his contract, so he can spin it anyway he wants but he was not grateful enough to honor his contract.

We don’t know what happened; if it was his decision or the new writers. Seems like he left the door open. Either way, it’s not like GH has loyalty to their actors; they and other shows break contracts all the time. Coby Ryan McLaughlin who played Shiloh signed up for a three year deal. After they wrote him into a corner as a manipulator who slept with his drugged followers, they painted him into a corner and let him go after nine months. Maybe they should have saved that part of the story toward the end of his three years; but they couldn’t care less. On a related note, I loved “Shiloh!” (not the rapey part). I thought Coby was a great actor and Shiloh was a great villain that could have gone in a lot of directions until they turned him completely diabolical. But I digress….

His character was based on a Really Story. So there wasn’t much that they could have done w/Shiloh. Yes they could have dragged it out longer but I’m tired of them dragging out Stories for over a year or more. Yes some stories do need to take time to get to the point.
The one thing that I do like about GH is that they do deal with real life Diseases.Like w/Sonny having Bipolar and Bringing that into his character. The way they did with a few characters having Diabetes both young and old. I’ve been watching GH since 1975 & the Diseases they did are Very good to see. I believe it helps people that watch find out that they should be tested for different Diseases.
I do Hope that they do recast the role of Spencer. I also Hope that they find away to bring back Hayden(Violet’s Mom & Elizabeth’s sister). I Hope that they keep the Role of Dex on the Show. Also I think that they need to stop playing the game of mixing up the Medication aka Sonny’s Meds. I also think that Sam is Wrong in the way she is going about how she’s dealing with Danny and Jason. She’s acting like she is the Goofy to Shoes which she isn’t. When she came on the Show she was a Con-Artist who was involved with Sonny and got Pregnant only to lose the baby in the end & Jason was there by her side. Also I Hope they don’t plan on having Christia keeping the baby she’s carrying for TJ and Molly. I’m so over with they baby drama. Who is the Daddy/Mommy. I also would Love to have Morgan come back. Also what about the baby that Ava’s brother Jolene had with Oscar’s Mom. Bring in some New/Old People.

As a long time fan of the show I’m disappointed that he won’t be returning after he said he would after doing the Netflix movie. I’m TIRED of characters being replaced over n over. The chemistry he n Trina had was spectacular. He won for his character n now he just abandons the show n his fans. I certainly hope that if he doesn’t come back that they just let the character remain dead/missing. STOP replacing with new people.

Recasts have been happening on soaps since the way early days. Monica, Ned, Carly (to name a few vets) were all recasts. It’s something soap viewers are accustomed to.

Nicholas Chavez will be missed. I thought his role as Spencer was absolutely wonderful. I heard about the Netflix series Nicholas was playing and I am so happy for him. Sometimes you need to spread your wings. I wish you Nicholas Chavez the best. You will be missed but, I will be watching the Netflix series. Good luck and I know you will do great.

I’ll miss him, and wish him luck but there are MANY young actors who could use a break and I think GH SHOULD recast Spencer. GH has cast other relatively unknowns and they became superstars on the show. Time to give someone a chance and I liked the Spencer character and there is so much more to his story.

I hate to see you go but wish you nothing but the best in the future! You have been a pleasure to watch on GH.

I feel bad that I feel this way, but I’m mad that he’s not coming back. I have never felt this way before when an actor left. But somehow, with this, I just saw so much potential with the Sprina pairing and what it could mean for GH and thought it would end differently.

Conflicting feels, for sure.

So, I will also wish him well as I learn not to take this so badly. Ha!

I agree that there is so much more to Spencer’s story, Laura, Ace, Nicholas, Trina, Sonny and even Ava all have unfinished storylines with him, so a recast would make sense. And we are definitely in low supply of Cassadines. They are also a pivotal PC family.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Brook Lynn and Chase’s Wedding Reception Brings a Beatdown for Dex

On Friday’s, May 17th episode of General Hospital, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase’s (Josh Swickard) wedding reception was the focal point as the touching celebration for the newlyweds got underway.

Sonny (Maurice Benard) was seething over seeing Dex mingle with the guests. With Dex becoming a cop, and ratting him out to Anna, previously Sonny feels betrayed by his former hit man. However, Sonny’s growing paranoia and mental stability is in question, in particular, because he has been off the proper dosage of meds for months now.

Later, when Sonny sees Dex talking with Gio (Giovanni Mazza) about serving in the military, and later chumming it up with Cerullos, he is about to go postal.

Photo: ABC

Outside the ballroom. Sonny confronts Dex about chatting it up with the Cerullos, who he says are his people. He warns Dex to stay away from his family. Dex says he was invited to the reception.

Next, Sonny calls Dex a snitch, a spy, and lets him know he is “lucky to be breathing.”  Sonny issues Dex a warning to stay away from his family, or he may not be breathing much longer.

As Sonny turns to walk away., Dex grabs him by the arm to try to reason with him and to and say he’s not his enemy. However, Sonny throws a punch. In the pickup, Sonny continues to bloody and beatdown Dex, until Jason (Steve Burton) arrives on the scene and restrains Sonny.

Kristina (Kate Mansi) walks in on the moment. She sees her father is yelling that both Jason and Dex are traitors. Sonny screams that they are both dead and he’s going to put a gun to their heads.

In happy news, Brook Lynn and Chase finally begin their wedding night when they jump onto of their bed in their honeymoon suite. Chase says now they have a great wedding night, which will be followed by a great honeymoon, and that will be followed by their entire life together. They share a kiss.

So, what did you think of Sonny’s explosive words and actions against Dex and Sonny? Will Kristina figure out what is going on with her dad, once and for all? Comment below.
