I’m from Canada so I’ve already watched Monday’s episode of Y&R and Michelle has slipped back into the role of Phyllis seamlessly. It’s almost as if she never left the show, and she’s captivating as ever. Mark is doing a great job as Adam despite being younger than previous actors who played him, and the age difference is quite apparent when he’s paired with Michelle Stafford, since she’s twenty years older than he is. It’s hard not to miss Michael Muhney’s portrayal because he’s a fantastic actor, but Mark checks all the boxes as the black sheep of the Newman family. And I’m equally excited about both Chelsea and Chloe coming back to the show. Melissa and Elizabeth have a very strong presence on screen, and their characters have been missed.

This is a side note, but while watching GH last week, I was thinking to myself how great Coby Ryan McLaughlin, who plays Shiloh/Hank, would have been as Adam. I know he’s tied up at GH and I’m not suggesting a recast on Y&R since Mark is doing fine, but does anyone else agree?

Jimmy
Re: your remark about Coby Ryan McLaughlin playing Adam. I never thought in my wildest dream I could agree on that, but I certainly do.

Oh my YES, Coby Ryan McLaughlin would have been a wonderful Adam…I think Coby is an excellent actor and doing a fantastic job as Shiloh…I am actually enjoying GH more that Y&R at the time…

Absolutely, Jimmy—-TPTB missed the mark ( no pun intended) as far as Adam is concerned. Coby is definitely the reincarnation of Adam—to the letter!! A perfect fit.
I am not feeling nuAdam yet—-mismatched with everyone–women and men alike. He still has milk-breath……the age is perfect, but Adam was aged….
Reverting to the character’s real age does no one any favors as he looks young enough to be Sharon’s son—-biologically, he can be!! I’ve always had a hard time with that “imbalance”.

I had a feeling Nina’ son Chance was the mystery-Chancellor link—but, Chance is a good guy!! Why is he messing with Adam?
As far as Phyllis? This is the persona who first came to GC. Is Phyllis up to her old tricks? I can’t way for the butterfly to let loose!!

PS….I hope Chelsea’s visit is just that—-a very short sojourn!!

Well get ready they are bringing back Avery /Betty Crocker ! Ugh he has turned back the clock I hated Mal Young but JG I never cared for his boring version either so I guess it’s back to Netflix I go lol!

Hey, Kay,
If truth be told, I don’t mind Avery as much as I do Chelsea—-the redeemed chameleon that is Chelsea gets zero tolerance from me. The interchangeable color of her coat(s) is/are just below the surface. Never liked her; never will. ❤️

always excited for more stafford nu adam is a good actor but he has no chemistry with sharon and as a matter of fact very little chemistry with most people he has interacted with and the chelsea return is whatever the bottom line is the show is very very boring and it feels more of a move backward instead of forward the show and its current writing can cure your insomnia and send all of devons new friends packing talk about no chemistry added with generic songs that are horrible beyond belief my dvr may say goodbye to a long time friend if this show does not step it up

I wish someone would explain to me what the reason was to have Adam back at all. What has he added so far? Also, that generic music you spoke of? I thought it was me. Being older than most of the others here, thought it maybe wasn’t as boring and bad as I thought it was.
Kind of like elevator music with lyrics.

Hi Richard,
Signorelli–the diminuative title of ” Young Lords”( masculine plural)—-your name is an old, noble Italian surname–be proud…
Anyway….I share your feelings for nuAdam—everything is happening too fast without rhyme or reason—-a mish-mash of blending old characters with the new —–by throwing old characters’ names hither and yon, does not pique interest nor arouse curiosity. I am assuming that’s the purpose?
I do have insomnia—–we’ll see if it works. Stay tuned, LOL.

thanks for letting me in on the name description great reply

❤️

I missed it. I am enjoying Michelle being back thought, gotta admit.

I always enjoy seeing cast members outside of the show. I especially enjoyed seeing Mark Grossman since so far he hasn’t smiled much on the show and I wanted to see him outside of the character. I am a huge Muhney fan but I have to say I’m enjoying Mark G. as Adam – a good casting decision. So glad to see MCE return. Michelle Stafford looked absolutely gorgeous; and am glad she gave a shout-out to Gina Tognoni, as it must be an awkward situation for her at times. I was a fan of hers when she played Phyllis originally; however, Gina Tognoni hooked me from her first day on the show and now she is my preferred Phyllis. I still can’t get over this recasting decision. Gina made the role her own and there was no reason for this.

Sorry I missed this show. Will have to catch it On Demand.

Hi, Jennifer,
That’s exactly the point…..Phyllis was not Gina’s to change. One cannot make a character, who stormed into GC; into a situation; into people’s lives like Michelle’s Phyllis did, for years and have another actress come in and change a character’s “ingredients”; her “facade”…..never took to Gina’s version. Tigress versus pussy cat!! Peace !!

Hey Celia, you may have mis-read my post LOL – I much prefer Gina; and hate the way they did this.

Hi, Jennifer,
I know you prefer Gina—I really do love Gina ( back from OLTL) —But, I have always felt that Michelle is Phyllis.
It’s amazing how some of us feel that Gina took Phyllis by the horns and liked the change in the character; while some of us feel Michelle’s Phyllis is incomparable.
These sites would be very boring if we all felt the same way, LOL.
And, yes—letting Gina go without explanation does feel like a betrayal…..you’re right. I wonder if MS decided to come back or if she was asked–does she have that kind of power, do you think? If that’s how the “situation” went down, then all sense of fairness goes out the window.
I feel sort of guilty because I never took to Gina as Phyllis…..I hoped and prayed for Michelle to return. I’m truly happy she’s back; but not at Gina’s expense.
I just assumed Gina chose to leave. ❤️

Celia,
In one of the usual interviews we get when there is a new head writer, I read that either Tony Morina or Josh Griffith reached out to MS about returning. Hate the way this went down.

Hi Celia
Getting caught up on some of these older posts. I have never cared for M.S, but today’s show with Summer being cared for by her old/new mom, was so sweet and touching, I have to admit to liking her better as Phyllis again than I liked her as Nina. She seems more in her element, back in GC than she did in PC. She is different somehow, but can’t put my finger on it, help me out!

Hi, Violet,
It’s 3:42 in the morning, and my eyes are wide open–tired, but can’t fall asleep….one of those white nights for me–
I was about twelve when I was old enough to grasp what was going on with the stories. Before that, it’s mostly sort of a blur.
But, I remember Michelle well—I was fascinated by her willowy figure and aura. I truly was completely captivated; mouth agape!!
My grandmother sat for me and my siblings ( all six of us, LOL) while my mother was in law school. She watched many a soap—So, I became a soap-opera addict.
I can understand why you see Michelle in a different light from Phyllis—I think it’s because her role as Nina was not that of an adult. At least that’s my perception. There was something very infantile about the character. A plausible explanation could be the fact that Nina was never given the ‘years’ to grow up and mature accordingly—-due to the fact that she was in a coma for twenty years. Perhaps this portrayal is what TPTB wanted to achieve.
Yet, her persona; her countenance; her flair for fashion and how she wore those mouth-watering outfits,….everything about her is incomparable—Nina or Phyllis.
Michelle Stafford is charismatic—if you have read any of my past posts, I basically said that Michelle’s Phyllis cannot be categorized as one way or another—she’s a combination of things—a schemer, a passionate lover, a nurturing mother, selfish but loving. Her multi-faceted personality is what makes her stand out!! Intractable femme fatale!! Gina, as impressive as her acting skills are, did not represent Phyllis—-the character lost her essence by changing her.
What’s disappointing to me is that the writers are choosing to display the scheming Phyllis of yore—-I only hope the PTB will keep the character’s sensitivity and vulnerability now and again, as we saw today with Summer.
I have a feeling Phyllis will hook up with Jack—I said as much when Gina’s hair was dyed red and Jack reverted to calling her “Red”. I knew something was up—preparing Michelle’s entrance. To be honest, though? I hope not!! I don’t like Jack–never have. Eva LaRue is my next choice for Jack.
Sometimes, Violet, when we have an antipathy toward either a character, or an actress/actor; nothing will make us change our minds……yet, even so, I can appreciate talent, whether I like the person or not.
The new Nina is a bust for me. She’s mediocre, at best….nothing to WOW about. I am not familiar with her acting; but so far, she’s not doing it for me. No comparison to Michelle. Not in my eyes, LOL.
‘Nite, Miss Violet.❤️

Celia
Thanks for your insightful explanations. You never fail! I have never cared for M.S but since she’s been back in GC, I am having second thoughts. She has become softer and more vulnerable somehow, which I think Jack may be picking up on. I also think her portrayal of Nina, compounded my dislike of her.
I agree with your assessment of Ms. Watros as Nina. While I did like her in other roles, she’s not doing it this time. I actually think Gina would have worked out better. I am anxious to see how mama Celeste and Jack get along. Maybe you would have liked the first Jack years ago. Can’t think of his name right now. The one that took his own life. I’ve gotten used to this Jack. Cane is the one I absolutely can’t stand, especially with Traci.
Celia, I also suffer from Insomnia, but only since I’ve been older. Don’t know how I’d have handled it at your age with a family to care for.Have you tried MELATONIN? Didn’t work for me, made me feel weird the next day. Hope you had a nice 4th of July anyway. Guess we had real fireworks in L.A area, but didn’t feel anything in San Diego area. My sister who lives on L.I also, felt one a few years back, knocking her off the John. I did a lot of teasing, but she did not take it well.

I so agree! Mark Grossman is an incredible actor. He is so believable that he has made me cry twice, and, for the first time in my 71 years, I am routing for the “bad guy”.

Mark Grossman has it! Looks, talent and stage presence..Keep it up ’cause I can’t remeber the old Adams..Best of Luck

Mark G. Does have it! He is amazing! Could win an Academy Award if they gave those out for daytime soaps❤️

American Idol

ABC Renews ‘American Idol’ for Season 8 and ‘The Bachelor’ for Season 29

While Katy Perry is exiting her gig at the judges table on American Idol at the end of this season, that will not stop the show from continuing on. The popular reality-singing competition had been renewed for its 8th season on ABC and its 23rd season overall.

American Idol started on Fox and was given new life at ABC seven years ago. The announcement of the renewal comes ahead of its Season 22 finale set to air on Sunday, May 19th.

As for Perry, she revealed back in February that she is stepping away from the show to pursue other career interests. The show is actively looking for the right chemistry and person to sit alongside judges and music superstars, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, who will be back next season, as will longtime host, Ryan Seacrest.

Photo: ABC

In other renewals, The Bachelor will be back following Joey Graziadei’s ratings winner of a season. The reality-dating competition will serve up its 29th season.

There is no premiere date set, but as has been in the past, the series usually premieres in January of the new year. While ‘Bachelor Nation’ will need to await, just who will be the next ‘Bachelor’, that person will most likely be selected from Jen Tran’s season of The Bachelorette, which is currently in production.

Jen’s journey to find love as the lead in The Bachelorette, marks that shows 19th season. It’s set to premiere this summer on July 8th and will again be hosted by Jesse Palmer.

Glad to hear “Idol” is coming back? Who should replace Katy Perry? Are you over ‘The Bachelor’ or did the last season featuring Joey as the lead, reinvigorate your interest in the show? Comment below.
