Y&R’s Mishael Morgan Delivers the ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Courtesy/CBS

To facilitate the exit of Daytime Emmy winner, Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair), The Young and the Restless moved the story forward in a big way to finally have Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway) succumb to their feelings for each other and have sex.

However, they were caught in the act and its aftermath by Amanda along with Abby’s hubby, Chance (Conner Floyd).  That set the stage for highly emotional scenes for Morgan who’s Genoa City alter-ego got to read Devon the riot act.

No one does fiery rage combined with pain better than Morgan, and when she berates and lays into Devon for cheating on her with Abby, it brought up all of Amanda’s past insecurities, but also saw her standing firm on her decision – that it’s over between her and Devon.

In story, Amanda had been taking care of her gravely ill mother, Naya and getting closer to the family she never had earlier in her life.   When she returned to Genoa City to see Devon, she found him with Abby rolling around on the couch of his penthouse.   Alone with Devon, you can feel how his betrayal burned into her.

Later, Amanda is visited by Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and the good friends commiserate over Amanda’s devastation of finding Devon with Abby, but also how they will miss each other, since Amanda has decided to head back to Virginia.

Even in her final goodbye to Devon, which left their relationship decimated, Morgan made you feel all of the inner pain and turmoil of a woman who knows she has to move on with her life without the man she loves, but will hold her head high in doing so.

Morgan recently revealed her status with the top-rated CBS daytime drama series.  She has gone on recurring status with the show and is stepping back from the show, with hopes she will be return sometime in the future.  But for now, Mishael is concentrating on new adventures and roles in her acting career.

As she exits, Michael Fairman TV names Mishael Morgan’s work, The Power Performance of the Week.

So, what did you think about the scenes where Amanda went off on Devon for hooking up with Abby? Will you miss Mishael on Y&R? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, check out some of this week’s moments from Mishael’s ‘Power Performance’ below.

Devon is a fool, So self-righteous with everyone else, but doesn’t hold himself the same standards. Amanda deserves better. Mishael, you will be missed!

Oh my gosh what have they done to the chancellor set?? So sad

It’s a shame! It was one of the best sets.

Glad you mentioned this, K. I used to love Katherine’s house. Even though it was a rich person’s set, it always felt homey to me…a place I’d like to spend time in. Now it’s about as welcoming as Noah’s “Jetsons”-style club. I mean, how many styles can you mix into one room? Ugh!

Hoping it’s just temporary
Was it supposed to be like a saloon?! Lolll
Don’t understand why of all the soaps Y n R being the most watched has the lamest sets. The Newman ranch and that crummy park set especially!
We haven’t seen Sharon’s place ,Nick’s place , GCPD set…forget about Lauren and Michael’s place

Damien, glad you mentioned Nick’s place/set being off camera for months. I could swear I spotted some of Nick’s wall decor in Noah’s nauseating nightspot. Set sharing or a donation from Dad? Either way, I still miss the old Newman ranch. As cluttered as it was, it made you feel cozy during the holidays especially. This newer place is as welcoming as a mausoleum. The holidays only feel nice at the Abbotts. At least they’re not all at each other’s throats like the Newman clan. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if Victoria starts blaming Adam for climate change!

Soaphound, Damien, et all
Yes, what on God’s Green Earth have they done to Mrs. C’s place? The Newman Ranch is contained into a smaller area and as you mentioned, Nick is homeless, and what has become of his son? Noah’s place looks like Brothels I’ve seen in movies, etc.and who wants to sit on those cushioned love seats that some drunken couple have been slobbering all over? Just adding my 2 cents. Have a very nice Thanksgiving to you all

The performances from all characters was phenomenal, but Abby really stood out for me. Her confusion & despair was palpable. As awful as her actions were, it was easy to feel some sympathy for her. Amanda reacted exactly as expected & right in line with her character’s traits. Devon’s reaction (not the acting, the writing) was too subdued. Even if we believe that he had feelings for Abby before they got together (and I do believe he did), I still think his character would have been more mortified than what he exhibited. He’s obsessed with right & wrong, so we’d expect him to be ashamed of his actions.
It’s always fun to surprise viewers & this definitely surprised me. I expected just a kiss & instead things moved much quicker.

Rachel
Sympathy for Abby, why? No one did anything to her except Devon, which she seemed to enjoy. Poor little rich girl never deserved a stand-up guy like Chance. Actually, Devon is exactly what she needs. They can vie and compete for attention. How much fun is that?

Mishael did a great job. her lines to devon were spot on and about michelle stafford. she is the one and only phyllis the scenes where she let amanda know how she would miss her and had no real friends was a standout. the reason michelle has always worked as phyllis is because you feel her vulnerability eileen davidson had that on days as kristen while stacy h does not. a great villain always has a vulnerability and back to mishael great job you’ll be missed

Mishael in just two days breathes so much energy in the boring Devon and Abby drama. Her talent is immense! Hope Mishael pops in often to visit her sis Imani , Leigh Ann Rose when she hopefully returns to prey on Nate. Imani, Nate and Elena should carry on the Winters legacy simply because all three actors have presence while I find unfortunately Lily and Devon to be like Abby just ok on a good day, boring on most.
The ptb should treat Mishael like Eileen Davidson and do whatever it takes to support her schedule for pop ins until she’s ready for a story arc.

Mishael was phenomonal; probably her best scenes just as she’s leaving!!! How neither Devon nor Abby could expect Amanda or Chance to come back after walking in on that beats me. Devon was so self-righteous and hard done by when Elena cheated on him with Nate, no forgiveness there, but when it’s all about him it’s a different story so he thinks. Also liked the scenes between Mishael and Michelle Stafford – the shock on Phyllis’ face when Amanda told her was perfect – just as it should be.

I, respectfully, disagree about Mishael’s deliverance as being awesome—she’s a great actress, but I must give praise to Melissa (Abby)–she holds that honor for me—which makes me take back some of my not-so-appreciative words.
As much as I disagree with her lame excuse for cheating (in my opinion, there is no excuse for cheating), “Abby” poured her heart out to Chance. I felt her sincerity and pain. She was magnificently credible. —-did not expect it!! Kudos. I wonder—-would she have “fallen” if she had no feelings for Devon?

Chelsea’s and Connor’s reunion—OK, so I cried!!

Yes, Yes Celia. I felt so bad for Chelsea during those scenes. I think this story has been beautifully dealt with… not too much time bogged down in the hospital but concentrating on Chelsea’s recovery. Excellent performances all around. My ma normally has no patience for child actors bur declared that young Conner is “some little professional already.” I agree. And I’d like to see Sharon have an actual gal pal instead of just babysitting all the town hunks. BTW, Nick’s behavior has turned from appalling to unforgivable to me. The man should carry a personal fire extinguisher aimed at his, um, inappropriate desires.

It would be remiss of me not to applaud Melissa Claire Egan—best performance ( overall) on Y&R fro a long time.
I could kick myself for underestimating her talent. She has been so real throughout Chelsea’s ordeal. I have no words—-so very unlike me to be speechless. Kudos!!

AMERICAN IDOL: Final Three Are Chosen; After Nationwide Vote, Are the Right Singers Going to the Finale?

On Sunday night, the semi-finals of this season’s American Idol were decided on Disney Night, where the contestants had to chose songs from Disney’s songbook which has become a tradition and of branding by ABC/Disney.

As usual, judge and music superstar, Katy Perry got decked out in a Disney get-up and this year dressed as Cinderella in full gown, no less.

The results of the nationwide vote sent two singers home, leaving three for next week’s 22nd overall season finale of ‘Idol’ and the 7th on ABC. It should be noted that we, and many at home, were surprised that some of the song’s chosen were even in Disney movies!

Photo: ABC

Eliminated were: 15-year-old Triston Harper who ended his run with a performance of  Rascal Flatt’s “Life is a Highway.” Also eliminated was Emmy Russell, the granddaughter of country legend, Loretta Lynn. After Russell’s performance of Brandi Carlile’s “Carried Me With You,” she did not have enough votes to move into the finale.

Moving on to the finals are: Jack Blocker, who wowed audiences during two-rounds of performances with “Nobody’s Fool” from Cars 2, and then David Bowie’sSpace Oddity.”

Will Moseley was also safe after his last performance of the night of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.” Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie thought it was the perfect sound for his voice, and apparently America thought so too.

Photo: ABC

Finally, Abi Carter, who ended her night with a rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s, The Chain from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack, illustrated her stage presence growth as noted by the judges, when she went full fledged rocker/pop star for this one. Given Carter’s exceptional vocals, and her often more intimate style when accompanying herself on the piano, this performance also lifted her into the finals.

So, did the right singers make it to the finale? Who are you rooting for to be crowned the new American Idol next week? Comment below.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Victor to Jordan: “You’re a Delusional Vicious, Bitch!” But, Is He About to Sic Her on Jack?

On the Friday, May 9th episode of The Young and the Restless, it has became abundantly clear that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is about to take revenge on his arch nemesis, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

The manner in which he chooses to do so, may be the most heinous in Victor’s long list of masterminding plots. When visiting his prisoner, Jordan (Colleen Zenk) in the dungeon at the Newman ranch, she is trying to persuade him how he can’t let her rot down in the dungeon, in fact, he needs her and she can tell he wants something from her.

Jordan begs him for a hint of what he is planning, but Victor says,“It will be at a time of my choosing.” Jordan says she can help him in whatever he is planning. In fact, she can weaponize fear against someone; just look at what she did to his wife, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott)!

Victor yells at Jordan, “You’re a delusional vicious, bitch!” Jordan laughs and knows he wants her to do his dirty work. Victor says he will let her know when he decides. In the meantime, to torment her and to get her hooked on booze, as payback for getting Nikki back on the bottle, Victor reveals another bottle of vodka for her. He leaves it just in reach and just outside of her cell.

Next, Jordan tells Victor she needs food, not vodka. Victor slaps her hands away, and eventually walks out. Later, in the dungeon, Jordan paces tempted by the bottle, and screams for Victor to let her out of there and to tell her what he wants.

Back at the Newmans, Victor rants to Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Cole (J. Eddie Peck) that the family should stay away from the Abbotts. Victoria senses Victor is about to hatch a vengeful plot on Jack. Victor won’t admit to a thing.

At the Abbotts, Diane (Susan Walters) wants to walk out on Jack, due to his pill popping escapade to save Nikki. She is worried whatever move she makes might send him down the road to taking more pills. Jack swears he won’t do such a thing.  However, he is seems to be losing all the confidence from his entire family, which we can only take to mean he will be left open and vulnerable to whatever plot Victor hatches and uses Jordan to execute. All signs point to attempting to send Jack over the edge and spiraling downward into addiction.

So, what do you think will happen? How will Victor use Jordan to seek revenge on Jack Abbott? Comment below.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Jack and Nikki Hit Rock Bottom with Riveting Performances by Peter Bergman and Melody Thomas Scott

If you caught the Thursday, May 2nd episode of The Young and the Restless, you witnessed an extraordinary episode filled with two unforgettable performances, that without a doubt will be remembered for 2024’s year-end accolades and next year’s Daytime Emmys.

In what at times reminded us that we were watching a two-person stage play or Y&R’s version of the classic motion picture, Days of Wine and Roses, two addicts hit rock bottom.

The episode only featured Melody Thomas Scott and Peter Bergman. The set-up, Nikki has gone on a massive bender alone in a GCAC suite, with booze bottles everywhere, slurring her words, sweating, the works. Jack, who is Nikki’s sponsor, ex-husband and friend, finds her and tries valiantly to get her to stop drinking and to sober up. He wants to get them to an AA meeting, he wants to get her to rehab. Throughout, while she is self-loathing on herself, Jack is reciting to her all the things she has to live for including Victor, her children, her charity work, etc.

Photo: JPI

All of this is falling on deaf ears because all Nikki wants is for Jack to leave, so she can continue drinking and be left alone with her vodka bottles.

At one point, she shoves Jack and says, “You have to want to get sober, but I don’t.”  Nikki throws an empty vodka bottle in disgust and tells him to stop with his damn positivity. She wants him to leave and smugly says,“You really think you can fix me?” She finds another bottle and opens it, but it’s empty. She smashes the bottle on the floor and runs into the bathroom.

Jack continues to plead with her that she is not to blame about Jordan and for Harrison being kidnapped. Trying to distract her, he talks to her about happy times with her family, orders food and coffee and water to help sober her up, but nothing is getting through to Nikki.

Next, Nikki says all his talking is making things worse, as he tries to grab the vodka bottle from her hands, but she won’t let it go. “I’m sorry I picked you as my sponsor,” Nikki angrily says to Jack. That moment stings Jack.  She tells him he ‘failed’. He couldn’t help her and now Victor can say, “I told you so.”

Slowly, Jack is losing his grip, with all the frustration and hurt Nikki has thrown at him. Nikki tells Jack to join the party or get out. Jack says, “Fine. I will.” He grabs a bottle and pours a drink. “Wow, that’s smooth. I see you sprung for the triple-distilled.” Nikki sneers, “Do you really think you can get me to stop by drinking half of my supply?” Jack suggests they order some vermouth. “Let’s see if Ol’ Smilin’ Jack can have fun again.”

Next, in a harrowing moment, Jack dials his former drug dealer, Kieran, to make a delivery to the suite. Jack tells Nikki she’s right. “I’ve been wound too tight for too long. It’s time to get loose!” Nikki is shocked at what she is seeing.

Photo: JPI

Now, Nikki is trying to to get the vodka bottle out of Jack’s hands but he won’t let her take it. Jack pours another drink and says he’s been a failure as her sponsor so to hell with it. “Don’t you try your reverse psychology on me,” Nikki spouts. After doing a toast to their marriage, friendship and Jordan, Jack tells Nikki, everything is not all about her.

He goes into the hell he has been through with Harrison, Ashley, Diane and Kyle and Nikki.  He wants some relief! Nikki reminds him alcohol was never his problem. Jack says he needs something stronger. Just then, a knock comes at the door. Jack pushes Nikki away and a delivery comes from Jack with a bag of pills. Jack says ,”Now, this is what hits the spot.”

Nikki is freaking out, but Jack says he has to remember what it feels like. When he holds the pills in his hand, that gives him comfort. Jack is grateful for their bond. “I would do anything for you.” He says he will go to rock bottom with Nikki, so they can climb out together. Jack remembers Diane was worried that helping Nikki might tempt him back to the pills. He told her there was no chance. He says, “It would help everyone else if they didn’t have to deal with Mr. Uptight.”

Even after all that, Nikki wants Jack out of the room. “Too bad, you’re stuck with me,” Jack says. He pours another drink and takes a pill out of the plastic baggie. Jack puts the pill in his mouth as Nikki shouts, “No!” Jack wonders how it feels to know you’re unable to help someone you care about. With that, he takes a drink to swig down the pill.

Nikki thinks he faked taking the pill, so Jack takes another one “There’s something liberating about just giving up.” Jack sadly says he let her down as a friend, and as a sponsor. Jack now blames himself for her massive bender. As he continues to down the pills, Nikki says she’ll get sober and will have something to eat.

However, Jack says this feels too good to eat. He takes yet another pill. Nikki tells him to give her the pills, because he can’t mix them with alcohol. Nikki’s phone makes a noise, so Jack grabs it and pretends it’s Victor on the other end, and then does his impression of Victor raising his eyebrow. Jack wants to continue his party, as he gets higher on the pills. Nikki says she does need a meeting. Jack pulls her close and says, “Dance with me.” As Nikki, pulls away, Jack passes out on the sofa. Nikki screams and we fade to black.

All we can say is, what towering performances by Peter Bergman and Melody Thomas Scott, and a great script for them to play these scenes in. It was gut-wrenching and raw, and one of the best episodes on the soaps in a long time.

So, what did you think about Jack and Nikki hitting rock bottom? What did you think of Peter and Melody’s performances? Do you think Jack will now be back with a drug habit, while Nikki will finally sober up? Comment below.
