Romanovich: "As One World Ends a New World Begins in Daytime Soaps"

Associated Television International’s Jim Romanovich, who has become a big friend to the soap industry with his help in saving the Daytime Emmy Telecast from extinction, as well as consistently writing his thoughts on the ailing industry, and offering up some food for thought, has done it again.
In his new blog for Baseline Intelligence titled, As One World Ends a New World Begins in Daytime Soaps, Romanovich brings up some valid points about daytime’s past and it’s future. Here is an excerpt:
Romanovich: “Currently, all six remaining daytime soaps can be seen on each show’s respective network site or Hulu. The ads you see are extensions of the overall media buy so there’s nothing financially to support the production of the soaps specifically as we know it. But it is coming and the soaps just have to hang on to reap that benefit. The networks, I hope, realize the gold in the river that Monty found that is in these devoted viewers who will follow their shows wherever they go. Story, Characters, and Execution. That’s all it takes. In this case the execution is not just with the actors, directors, and crew, but in the platform itself in which they can see it with a simple click. Technology has to make it easy for everyone and not turn us into a bunch of Magellans navigating through layers of menus to get through the strait and into the open sea. As I said, the viewers will follow the shows and advertisers will follow the viewers. So make it easy for them. If you build it, they will come. These last six soaps owe a debt of gratitude to Guiding Light and As The World Turns. It’s all very Christian in a way. Both soaps created the disciple soaps and then were crucified when their mission interfered in their rulers’ justice system. In death, they took the sins of the soap world upon their shoulders. In doing so, it only magnified the strength of the soaps and their followers as well as many other new soaps now on the Internet- The Bay, Gotham, Venice, and so on. They have been reborn from within.
I know that the six soaps can survive on the Internet or as a hybrid television/Internet vehicle if network programmers can see them as valuable commodities. But I really can’t say as to whether they do. Although the broadcast soap era may come to an end in 10 years, who’s to say a cable/Internet run isn’t in the cards? It doesn’t have to be the end. A new beginning is coming”

Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain Announce They Have Ended Their Marriage
After much speculation, General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) and Cady McClain (ex-Jennifer, DAYS, ex-Rosanna, ATWT, ex-Dixie, AMC et al) have officially confirmed and announced they have gone their separate ways and have ended their marriage.
For months on social media, it was clear that the two were seemingly apart, not appearing pictured in any of each others posts.
Now, on a mutually shared Instagram post, Jon and Cady made an official statement on the status of their relationship, beginning with “Cady and Jon here. We are taking this opportunity to make a short statement about our relationship status. It may be obvious to some based on our posts that we’ve taken some time apart. After serious consideration we have decided that our goals have been taking us in different directions and to end our marriage.”

As to the future, Jon and Cady explained, “We remain friends and wish each other every happiness. As people who work in the public eye, it can be difficult to have a private life. Regardless, we ask for your kind consideration in this matter.”
Jon and Cady met when they both appeared on As the World Turns, he as Craig Montgomery, and she as Rosanna Cabot. After four years together, the couple decided to get married in 2014.

2024 Golden Globes: Justin Hartley and Amanda Seyfried Among First Round of Presenters
The 2024 awards season truly gets underway this Sunday night ,January 7th on CBS with the presentation of the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards honoring the best in motion picture and television as deemed by the voters of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
The ceremony will be broadcast live and will air beginning at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The ceremony will also be available on the CBS app and will stream on Paramount+. (Note, however, only Paramount+ subscribers who have Showtime can stream the event live; others can watch the show the next day.)
The first round of presenters was revealed on Wednesday and two soap opera alums are on the list including Justin Hartley (ex-This Is Us, The Young and the Restless, Revenge, Passions) and Amanda Seyfried (ex-Lucy, As the World Turns and ex-Joni Stafford, All My Children).

Joining Justin and Amanda as presenters are: Angela Bassett, Will Ferrell, Michelle Yeoh,George Lopez, Julia Garner, Justin Hartley, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams. Previously, Jo Koy was named host for the telecast.
The Golden Globes are back on CBS for the first time since 1982. In addition, Dick Clark Productions is back after years away as the longtime Globes producers.

Richard Roundtree, ‘Generations’, ‘ATWT” and ‘Shaft’ Star, Dead at 81
Motion picture and television leading man, Richard Roundtree, has passed away at the age of 81. The actor, best known for his role in the iconic film Shaft, and its sequels, died from complications from pancreatic cancer on October 24th in his home in Los Angeles.
In a statement, Roundtree’s manager, Patrick McMinn shared, “Richard’s work and career served as a turning point for African American leading men in film. The impact he had on the industry cannot be overstated.”
During his extensive credits and career, Roundtree made two stops to two daytime soap operas. In 1990 till 1991, Roundtree played Dr. Daniel Ruebens on the defunct NBC soap opera Generations. He later appeared on As the World Turns from 2002-2003, taking on the role of Oliver Travers, the father to T. Marshall Travers played by Lamman Rucker.

Roundtree’s leading lady on Generations, Jonelle Allen took to her Facebook upon learning the news of the death of her former castmate and friend, expressing: “My Leading Man on Generations. I Am Very Sad. My Condolences To Your Family. Dearest Richard Roundtree.”
In a subsequent post, Allen shared a photo of their Generations’ characters, Daniel and Doreen about to lip-lock. Jonelle stated, “In the scene with him I kept thinking: ‘Shaft is about to kiss ME!!!’ Thank You.”
On Generations, Roundtree’s character of Daniel Reubens was a brilliant doctor, who was accused of killing someone by causing an explosion at a lab in 1974. He and his daughter, Maya, then went “underground” for the next 15 years. Maya was played by Viveca A. Fox.

Fox, honored her former on-screen soap father with an Instagram post upon learning of his death. Vivica wrote: “GM Dawlings! My heart is sad this morning as late last night I learned that LEGEND Actor @officialrichardroundtree had passed. I had the blessing of working with Richard on alot of 1st in my acting career! He played my Dad on the soap opera #Generation‘s TV show #90210BeverlyHills Mr Roundtree thank u for your AMAZING GIFTS! U will truly be missed as u were the 1st African American Action Star #SHAFT I’ll never forget the time u stood for ME when a director was being a jerk to me! Richard was also known for his roles in Roots and the Brad Pitt thriller Se7en. On television, Roundtree appeared on: Murder, She Wrote, A Different World, Beauty and the Beast, 21 Jump Street, MacGyver, Beverly Hill 90210, L.A. Law, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Alias, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, and Private Practice and many more.

I am not interested in web soaps. He is always so negative. I have been watching soaps since 1977 and I do not want to hear they will be extinct on television in less than 10 years.
I been a soap fan sence the 60’s,I loved Another World and I did love Days,I still watch Days but all the charecters are gone that I liked the most, Lucas John Tony Marlena are all gone. and Im mad as hell about BRD/Lucas Horton is no longer on the show,it was no reson for him to go just because the writers coulden and woulden write for him,what sorry writers that cant and want write for a charecter thats been with this soap for 17 years… bring Bryan Dattilo back and the fans will watch and the rating will be back up. I’m still missing ATWT and as a really long time viewer I guess I always will.This show had heart and soul and a core of decency that i can’t seem to find anywhere else.I really feel like a big chunk died in me.My husband looks at me like i’m nuts and maybe I am.but I miss it …it was “my time ” and I loved most of the characters….especially Dr. Bob, and my beloved Reid and Luke!
ATWT was the best soap opera on tv, period. I can’t believe P & G did not try to shop it out so it could have survived. They had the BEST storyline ever going with Luke and Reid and the fans were so emotionally invested in that show. Months after it had ended I am still grieving over the loss.
