GH's Emma Samms On Not Being In Cast Of DWTS: "So Sorry To Disappoint. Not Entirely Sure How That Rumour Started!"

On Monday, On-Air On-Soaps and other mainstream and soap outlets originally posted an online sourced report that had General Hospital fan favorite Emma Samms (Holly) joining notables such as Olympians Laura Hernandez and Ryan Lochte, Taxi’s Marilu Henner, former Texas governor Rick Perry, as well as 80’s rap star Vanilla Ice as one of the celebrity contestants on season 23 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Although everyone was unconfirmed until the official announcement on Tuesday morning on Good Morning America, suddenly last evening there were mixed reports that Samms was actually not in the cast.  Then when the announcement came early AM New York City time, Samms was not revealed to be a part of the ballroom dance competition.

While no one seems to have any idea as to how this now “rumor” got started, Samms herself took to her Twitter account to qualify it and say to her followers: “So sorry to disappoint re #DWTS Not entirely sure how that rumour started! It wouldn’t have worked anyway, but perhaps next time?”

Many GH and Emma’s longtime fans took to Twitter this morning very disappointed that this was indeed false.  Meaning for another season no current or former soap opera star that will be representing the genre.

So, what do you think of Emma’s tweet and clarification?  Do you wish she has been hitting the dance floor? Would you like to see her compete in a future season of DWTS? Comment below!

Yes! I very much would love to see her compete next season! Also really want to see her on GH again! We need to see some Robert & Holly! One of the best love stories ever!

So wanted to see Emma on DWTS! It seems like something happened, literally overnight to change her status. I am very disappointed. GH should invite her to be on the show, to compensate for this huge faux pas. I would love to see Robert and Holly!

Emma herself said this whole thing was a RUMOR…”Not entirely sure how that rumour started! It wouldn’t have worked anyway”…so there was NO status to change.

The only soap actor who could get me to watch dwts is Finola Hughes.

Would love that too, but she is a trained dancer; it wouldn’t be fair.

Well, I have no reason to watch dwts now. I was actually going to watch for the first time in years cuz of holly but now…..meh….

It would be great to see Emma Samms on DWTS!

That being said, the casting for this show is formulaic to a fault: overloading of athletes (even an Olympian whose star has been heavily tarnished, to say the least), unpopular politicians (goodbye after week 1, Rick Perry), former child Disney stars known only to that small viewing audience, nighttime TV stars from long, long ago, and a ringer-partner for Derek Hough (I like Marilu Henner, but she could be the exception).

Oh, James, let’s hope so about Rick Perry. Didn’t we already do this when that wretched Tom de Lay bombed out a few seasons back? . By the way, have you figured out what exactly constitutes being a “star”? Every time they announce a new cast, I lower my expectations even further. Despite the ‘scandal’ , I’m glad Ryan
Lochte can at least supply some eye candy. Let’s hope Marilu Henner can dance!

Thanks for replying, Soaphound!

I know I ventured into snark territory today, but I have a love-hate relationship with DWTS…

I, too, hope Marilu can dance … for her sake because I like HER!

Glad we’re on the same page regarding Perry. I think dancing will be hard for him because he will have to remember (and implement) more than 3 things.

On another same page, with regard to the “eye candy,” how soon will it be before Lochte dances in a Speedo? This will also afford his partner the opportunity to dance in a bikini. So it will be a win-win situation for the viewers and ABC!

Take care, Friend!

PS: I forgot to answer your direct question. A “star” can evidently have wide-ranging denotations… 🙂

I.m not too excited about any of the “stars” they rounded up for this season with the exception of Vanilla Ice. That boy can dance…and they’ll probably have some cool, funky music for him to get down to!

Hello Rebecca1!

I agree that Vanilla Ice should do well on the show. In addition, one thing that makes DWTS interesting is that some “stars” can show dramatic improvement and surprise us. Take care, Friend!

Hi jamesj75…I have loved DWTS from the day it danced its way on to my screen. Watched loyally until it went up against THe Voice and then, LOL…conflict! what to do…as I loved both shows. Decided I could watch one in real time and catch up on the other With OnDemand. Somehow I slacked off and yet I can still say it’s one of my favorite entertainment shows ( not to be compared to other forms of entertainment ala drama, comedy film, etc). It’s just the essence of joy for me being both a music and dance enthusiast. Both are a passion…

The show started out with the concept of professional dancers paired with well-known “celebrities” who weren’t skilled dancers in competition. But they also implied that we would watch the journey of those who didn’t dance professionally improve.

Thus, the show is always imbalanced because for the most part actors and musicians, especially those that have been in boy bands like InSync…Joey Fatone, Lance Bass are going to be great. Same with Spice Girls’ MelB, etc. Then you get someone like that crazy scientist guy(forgot his name), or Geraldo Rivera who who try so adorably hard…as do so many others that I sit there and go “awwwwwwwwww” because they’ve obviously practiced and put in a real effort and ultimately get voted off.

So which is it? A show about learning to dance and watching a weekly improvement, discipline, dedication and eagerness to learn a new skill, or watching gorgeous people dazzle us with dance.

The first few weeks are the former…the middle to the end are the latter. Though unfair, it works as one magical hour of entertainment, great music of different genres, people from different cultural backgrounds all blended together in a fantastic whirlwind of music, dance and competition. In my opinion one of the best shows for those of us who get swept up in the power of beautiful, creative choreography and the rush of letting go.

James…I know how you feel, Brother!!!!! Over the years, I (myself) have had a LOVE-HATE relationship with DWTS. 3, uh, examples…

1. It made my blood ANGRILY BOIL watching that ANNOYING AND SELF-RIGHTEOUS Candace Cameron Bure compete on there…BEYOND BLECH!!!!!!!!!!
2. It was TOTALLY PAINFUL (for me) watching that ‘Science Guy’ Bill Nye even compete. TOTALLY AWKWARD!!!!!
3. I’m sorry but that Paula Deen woman looked BEYOND FOOLISH on the DWTS dance floor. Y-U-C-K!!!!!!!!!!

Just saying………..

Have a good one, Brother.

Hello there, Jay!

I’m glad I’m not the only one with this “love-hate” relationship… You make some great points, and I agree with you. I think they choose many “stars” because of their controversies and baggage…

One of my favorite athletes is Martina Navratilova, one of the best (if not the best) female tennis players of all time. However, it was painful to watch her brief run on the show because she was out of her element and not a natural at dancing. I think the same thing would happen to Jamesj75… Take care, Friend!

James…I remember Martina Navratilova from that certain season of DWTS. And, remember, Martina was the first one voted off. Yep.

Peace, Brother.

So disappointed! Hopefully next season… A visit to Port Charles would be great too!

I love having the genre represented on DWTS. However, Emma Samms in not a favorite of mine so I am fine that it was just a rumor. Truth be told most seasons of DWTS can come up with odd people I wouldn’t want to see and then I spend the time watching and find their personalities are fun I enjoy watching them. I am sure it would have been the same for Emma Samms too.

I would have liked to have seen her. Maybe like she said, next time.

Where are the “stars” on that list?

Politicians are now on DWTS?!! How boring. I would have loved to see Emma and see her on GH with Tristan during his return. She would have lured me to watch.

JMER…EXACTLY!!!!! Also, it’s bad enough that MOST POLITICIANS do nothing but LIE!!!!! The last thing that I wanna see/watch on DWTS are politicians stumble (or whatever) all over the DWTS dance floor. No Thank You. N-o-p-e.

Have a good one.

Maurice Benard Confirms Steve Burton is Upcoming Guest on ‘State of Mind’

Over this past weekend, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) revealed that he is finally going to have longtime co-star, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) on his State of Mind You Tube series for a sit-down interview.

While speaking with Soap Opera Digest at Nancy Lee Grahn’s (Alexis, GH) ALS fundraiser, Maurice confirmed the taping is happening this week and should be posted in about three weeks time.

Benard shared, “I wanted Steve Burton and I’m shooting him Tuesday, my good friend, but he’s been through a lot and I’ve been asking for three years, but he’s finally going to do it.”

Photo: ABC

In addition, to the episode, it appears Maurice also confirmed he will be doing a You Tube live on Tuesday, May 7th as well at 3 pm PT possibly with Burton.

As GH viewers know, for year Jason was Sonny’s henchman, and his right hand. Now upon Jason’s return, the two are at complete odds, due in part to Sonny’s medication being completely manipulated by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and his growing paranoia.

As for what Burton will discuss, as Benard teased Steve has gone through a lot of personal ups and downs as well as professional, over the last three or more years, but has always landed on his feet. It will be interesting to hear this thoughts on those matters and how he soldiered through.

So, excited to see Maurice and Steve have a serious chat on State of Mind? Comment below.

GH’s Tabyana Ali Responds to Nicholas Chavez Exit: “I Hope That We Will Get the Chance to Work Together Again Someday”

The “Sprina” that everyone knew and loved is not coming back in the form fans have been accustomed to, at least, anytime soon after Nicholas Chavez last week confirmed his exit from General Hospital.

After months of speculation if Chavez would return to his soap role, after exiting to film a leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, he revealed he has stepped away from the role via a post on his social media accounts.

Now, the other half of Sprina, Tabyana Ali, has offered up her thoughts on Nick’s exit from the series. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, she shared, “I want the best for him and all of his endeavors and I hope that we will get the chance to work together again someday. I also want to show my gratitude to Sprina Nation as well.”

Photo: ABC

As to what the future holds for Trina, and where the character goes from here, Tabyana would like to see a character turn, adding, “I would like her to have a vendetta story or a revenge story. Or the love of her life is gone and now she just turned evil a little bit.”

However, Ali is very aware that Trina is not wired like that emotionally, at least, as she is written now, “I don’t know how much that would be possible. She’s such a kind-hearted person at her core.”

Photo: ABC

How would you feel if the show recast the role of Spencer with another actor, and brought Spencer back from the “dead”, given that his body was not found? Would you like to see another actor paired with Tabyana? Or, should Trina find happiness with a new love, and THEN, a recast Spencer shows back up?

And you never know, as Nicholas Chavez put it in his exit statement, “While there are no current plans for me to return, we are still talking very openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.”

Vote in our poll below, and let us know what your hopes are for Trina’s future, via the comment section below.
