Coby Ryan McLaughlin Is GH’s Hank aka Shiloh; What Do You Think Shiloh Is Ultimately Up To?
Viewers of General Hospital over the past week have seen the debut of the character of Hank. First, on the December 27th episode of the ABC daytime drama series, but it turns out there is more to this story.
When Hank arrived in Port Charles he mistook Jason (Steve Burton) for Drew (Billy Miller), claiming he knew Drew from his time in Afghanistan. Jason thinks something is fishy with this guy. Jason told his brother about Hank, and gave him his contact info, but warned Drew to be careful. Drew has no memory of the guy.
Later, when Drew ran into Hank, the guy filled Drew in on the supposed back-story. According to Hank, Drew had saved his life after an explosion in the war, and wanted to locate him to say, “thank you.”
Then, on today’s Thursday, January 3rd episode, things get a bit more intriguing. As it turns out, the house (or is a cult?) that Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) is living at is run by the Dawn of Day’s group leader, Shiloh. When Jason and Sam (Kelly Monaco) take Kristina up on her offer to check out the place, they do. Once there, they meet Shiloh, who is actually Hank.
Sam and Jason are perturbed and not-trusting of this guy’s intentions. Shiloh tells them and Kristina, that he changed his name to evolve and make changes in his life. Shiloh explains to Sam that he is a life coach. She questions how people can afford to live there in the house. He responds by saying people pay what they can.
Coby Ryan McLaughlin is the actor who is playing this new villain in town. Y&R fans may recognize him from portraying the DNA “expert” who helped Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) dupe her brother, Jack (Peter Bergman).
As for McLaughlin, he has also appeared on numerous primetime series including: Parenthood, Castle, NCIS, and Graceland.
So, what do you think Shiloh’s end game is? What does he want? Could he be working for someone? What are your impressions of Coby Ryan McLaughlin thus far? Comment below.
I think the canvas is over populated as it is and last thing we need our newbies
STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! The show is bloated with actors as it is. When one leaves, or dies, another takes their place. Please put a moritorium on adding ANY new characters. I’m tired of so many stories bouncing around the screen with most of them never going anywhere. It’s unsatisfying and unnecessary, and most of the new characters are boring, as are the storylines (Willow, Daisy, now Hank) ‘nuf said. General Hospital has unfortunately been so dumbed down over the years, that it’s barely a shadow of its former self. I always try to find something redeeming about GH, and rarely, if ever, say anything negative without reason. But, after watching the show since 1963, I’m ready to chuck it and move on. This is a first for me. You’re losing a long time fan and I would not be a bit surprised if I’m not the only one who feels the same way. So, STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!
Get a grip
Why am I thinking Helena Cassadine is going to be involved in this somehow?
Hmmmmm–sounds good to me, James. And, this also, directly connects Drew, Sam and Jason.
Perhaps, the obscurity about Hank/Shiloh will compel Drew to use the disk-drive Margaux gave him?
Oops–I meant to type hard-drive. Have no clue why I wrote disk. LOL.
Shelly AND Chris : could you just let a story play out some… before you insert your dullards ? case in point… about Jason running to Sam, and sharing with her something fishy and not right ? blech ! already the story has dropped to little or no interest.. as this sleuthing twosome.. with help from Spinelli and then Sonny interject… and it’s the dullard all over again.. is this an attempt by the writers to include Billy Miller.. to give him story ? to embarrass us all .. because we knew their was some religious “right” and CULT on the horizon. lets hope Shelly and Chris die on the cross.. I get it… drink your kool-aid
1st, Shiloh is Not a villain.
There are few true villains.
A bad person is not necessarily of villain level.
S0 far he might be bad and conniving but not worthy of the villain badge.
I like him.. He is handsome and that gives him points lol.
He has a cult but it doesn’t seem its a killer cult but a self-help thing that is totally stupid but not lethal.
I like new characters so I’m cheering him on..
And Ray pppffftt for being a serial killer it’s a Fail..
not drama, suspense no nothing BORING DULL.
he’s on the far side of a serial killer, weak very weak.
my dog has more oomph than Ray while passing gas(he makes a bigger stink bwahaa!).
Who is Ray?
hi Harry–
sorry I made you struggle with that one..
ok-
Ray, Rey, Raa, Raymond, Rah, that guy 🙂
note; he is not a favorite of mine, I’m not attracted to him, nope no way,so eehhhh.
He’s Ray eehhh Rey.. lol
Suoo, are you willfully gas lighting me? Or does it just come to you naturally? I think you mean Ryan. Rey is the police officer from Y&R, and last time I checked, Rey was not a serial killer. As far as Ryan is concerned–the Ryan storyline is horrific, grisly, macabre, sinister. These aforementioned adjectives are all things you normally cherish. How is this achieved? I’ll tell ya. It is achieved because Jon Lindstrom manages to pull this off with a nuanced understatement but you can see the full frontal rage, the psychotic urge being resisted as Ryan pretends to be his brother. You know what’s scarier than slasher movies? The human imagination. Jon Lindstrom as Ryan triggers the dark imagination with a suppressed expression, with hands violently twisting shoes laces and with his almond shaped eyes suddenly turning black. I think he’s so good at playing a psychotic serial killer that some viewers still have yet to catch up with him. Ryan is one of the best soap villains of all time–I put him the same category as Billy Clyde Tuggell which is high praise indeed.
LOL….this ‘suuuu’ fun, Harry!! Cracking up, here!! Can’t make this stuff up! HaHaHaHaHa!! Oh, Lordy Lord!!
Wow, good comparison , Billy Clide Tuggle I forgot that name till you brought it up! I’m not as you about expression my thoughts on paper but hit it right on about Jon Lindstrom. He’s a superb actor and I have said several times that he’s much better st playing the killer than the psychiatrist! I almost forget that he’s acting when I watch him, he’s so intense!
I think Su000 meant Ryan.
Thank you, Fancy. I figured as much.
ahh OK, ‘Ryan: it is..
He’s the cotton candy serial killer.. bwaa what a fail.
He is the cuddle bunny of serial killers..
before my time; Ray Gardner was an actual villain as was Billy Clyde.
There were many Actual chill binding shocking villain back when.
Now there are no villains just bad guys and powderpuff serial killers.
The last of the last would be;
‘James’ Franco’s Franco- at the least that character stirred Emotions got the blood flowing made fans take notice and yell at the screen, and still he was not equal to the Real Actual crazy raw villains ..
ppppfffttt Ryan bwahaa what a dud.
SNOOOORE ..
They need to revive the old scripts, the scripts that had hard writers that could create villains as Ray Gardner, Billy Clyde, the badass Cassidines, and all the spine chilling villains of days long gone.
I’m sure you could write a list of the greats..
and- it sure in heck is not powderpuff Ryan.BOOOO!AHAA SHEESHHH.
The guy is both a cult leader and a mercenary. Don’t see how he could have any redeeming qualities with that mixture.
After observing humanity for several millenia, it’s easy to recognize certain patterns in you mortals. Shiloh/Hank is checking a lot of those boxes, and he ain’t even been around a week yet. Hell, if we didn’t already know Ryan was the serial killer, this guy would be at the top of my suspect list for that too. And he’s obviously going to be behind whatever plot against Sam is in the works (regarding her ancient history with that old dead guy from where ever)
I see him a cross between Charles Manson and Reverend Jim Jones but he’ll probably just end up being a pyramid scheme salesman.
GH needs to bring Kris Kardashian and Kim Kardashian and sign them to contracts, they will be related to Sonny. The ratings would spike up and also bring back John Stamos as Blackie.
Show has many rotten actors as it is and the Kartrashians would destroy what very little GH has going for it!!!
True Jimh, This bonfire doesn’t need additional fuel‼️
Lol Fancy, you are the bon fire darling.
Yuuuuuck
WHY? I want the Kardashian/Jenner family to go away forever. I am tired of these trashy, un accomplished idiots showing up on my phone’s news feed and I certainly do not want to see them on my soaps. Enough with reality TV stars.
I agree with Liza, The Kardashians are well loved. They are good people, who give back to the community. They give money to the homeless and other charities. I want to see Kris and Khloe and Kim sign contracts with GH. Sonny will have his hands full with his love children lol
I am serious, are you kidding, or really serious? I’d throw my TV set out, like it was on fire!!
He seems intriguing and is a fairly good actor. Ryan can’t be the only bad guy walking around the streets of Port Chuck.
I am intrigued by this surprise turn of events. And, honestly, this dude is one of the most gorgeous men that I have ever seen. Wow! 🙂
HE … totally thru me when he was playing pool with Jason. looking good with the dark camera angles… hello
some mystique
He is that, Jason. I remember Coby Ryan from so many shows …..Y&R, NCIS, Parenthood, Bones….and so many more. He’s hot and interesting.LOL–a bad boy on GH??
❤️
I think this is a ripped from headlines plot akin to that bizarre cult that led to arrest of Allison Mack and others. ???
He was so intense with Drew at GH that I thought he was gonna kiss him and say they had been lovers. Whatever’s going on with him, I find that there are a bunch of holes in this story already. Shiloh/Hank didn’t just arrive in PC when he ran into Jason, he had to have been there for months. Daisy was introduced months ago and was already living “at the house” when she met Christina. So what was Hank up to all this time?
I’m not sure where they’re going with this story or if I want to care. The writers have started so many storylines and dropped them during 2018. It feels like we’re all in a story meeting with the writers and they’re throwing ideas out, write them for a little, get bored and then start new ones. This is very frustrating for me.
“News” interrupted one or two days of the show in my area, but I never saw this producer that was Ryan’s latest victim before Ryan went to visit and kill him. I never saw Curtis meet the guy. Moreover, where did this idea for a TV show with Curtis come from? Never heard him talk about that before, but boy!, was it important to him for one show! See what I mean?
I hope things improve in PC in 2019. I love GH and want it to get better.
YEAR 2019 : Classic entry to soap annals… YES YES YES
“^^^He was so intense with Drew at GH that I thought he was gonna kiss him…”
I just love the I get it too
Shiloh is up to no good. He did his homework……he is informed on every aspect PC-residents’ life; past and present. No way did he know Drew…..a fabrication. He will use said info to his own benifit. He is the one behind Sam’s phone “teaser”. The question is. What the Hank for?
Kristina–when will she be allowed to grow up? She acts like a fouteen-year-old….why is this girl/woman not given any ambition? A goal in which to strive? Aspire? Instead she’s thrown hither and yon without purpose.
Now, it seems, that all overgrown ‘teens’ gather in “Shiloh’s House of ill reFUTE”. Madness!!
GH is in complete chaos…. it has become a gallimafry of idiotic incidents and situations…..and “duh” characters. Truly frustrating….
Willow is Nina’s. Kiki’s twin. Valentin will get his. What’s that word? Comeuppance?? Yeah. That one.
Hey Celia, Good to see a post from you and as always right on the money!
Hello, Lew,
Good to see you post, too, my dear friend. Thank you—means everything coming from you.
Let’s hope someone “interrupts” Ryan before he does Laura harm.
I wonder how many more victims he will “amass” before this fallacy comes to an end.
Happy New Year to you and yours. Health and Peace!!❤️
Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well.
CeeCee sweetheart,
Bonne année et bonne santé ‼️
La meme chose pour vous, ma belle amie!! Je suis reconnaissante pour chaque cadeau dans mon “plat”.
Merci beaucoup pour la douceur de vos paroles.. .
Restez bien❤️
Hey, Celia. I agree Shiloh is up to no good (but, he’s FINE lookin’! 😉
I don’t think Kiki and Willow are twins. I think Kiki (who I couldn’t stand) was definitely Ava’s but I do think Willow is Nina’s (who I usually like but she’s getting on my nerves with her Charlotte cheerleading and her trying to tell Lulu how to raise HER daughter.)
As for Kristina, I think it’s interesting that they have her searching for herself. Many people in real life do…and don’t find themselves for years. Sometimes never. Makes her realistic, and sets up her as someone to fall for a cult like this. If everyone on a soap had their “stuff” together it’d be pretty dull, or at least too perfect; which life never is. Art imitates life and all that stuff…
Hi, Rebecca,
Yeah…I guess it does take a lifetime for some of us to find ourselves…..I am soooo on the fence about Kristina….should I pity her? ….or bolster her defiance? I was never one to rebel against my mother….. Subconsciously, she does seem to blame her mother for whatever goes wrong in her life.
There’s such a fine line between wallowing in misery by whining and acting like an adult, regardless of one’s parenting. I supposed it boils down to my “disenchantment” of her. I am not into Kristina. What will happen? Hmmm….maybe she’ll sleep with Shiloh and decide she’s not gay/bi, afterall? Or, will it reenforce the fact that she’s gay. ….could be this is why she is at such a confused crossroads. Will Shiloh be her salvation? ….metaphorically and symbolically speaking???? LOL.
As Ava, despite her angst, a mother who truly loves her child, would never steer said offspring in the wrong direction; even after considering her own peccadilloes.
I’m glad you agree about Willow. I felt that vibe since she and Sasha were introduced—-almost at the same time. Jimh suggested that Sasha is Nina’s sister? Sounds good to me.
But, I must eat crow about Kiki, albeit reluctantly. LOL.
Did you like Alderson? The original Kiki? Was it the character or the actress? I liked them both!!
Lulu? Her wide-eyed, forever startled eyes drive me to distraction; so I FF. I think TPTB could do a lot better with this character—she and her reporter-notepad do not an inspiring picture make. ❤️ Happy New Year!!
@CeeCee…..You are so right regarding the perpetually-childish Krissy blaming her mother for all her woes in the world,,but then again, I have to say she is probably pretty spot-on in that assertion! The wanton, weak-willed Alexis was certainly not an appropriate role model for any of her daughters…she bore three different offspring—two illegitimately—each with a separate father, none of whom could be termed as a good, decent or honorable man! To have been exposed to the constant chaos and moral morass which are the cornerstones in the life story of Alexis Davis is hardly a healthy environment for any child to survive, let alone thrive….All three of the girls suffered collateral damage due to their mother’s poor and irresponsible behavior…it’s actually a wonder Molly turned out so well, although in recent years she has become too much like her gobby, opinionated maternal figure for my taste. Having said that, I still harbor no sympathy for Kristina…she is one of the most disagreeable characters to ever inhabit the GH canvas…she’s been a surly, rebellious brat for as long as I can remember and it is time she finally grew up and stopped invoking her dubious upbringing as an excuse for her own repeatedly bad choices…no matter how valid the charges accorded to her terrible parentage, she nonetheless had a very privileged existence and many opportunities to make something of herself apart from those negative influences, and each time she managed to create a ruinous scenario of her own design…It is indeed time for her to learn to stand on her own two feet…no more of the blame game, or using one mommy/daddy substitute after another as an emotional crutch. Before Little Miss Krissy can find herself, she needs to stop searching in all the wrong places and look within her own psyche to find the answers. However, I doubt that shall ever happen, because GH has gotten too much mileage out of this wayward child act even though it exceeded its shelf life years ago!!!
He is probably the one who has been secretly sending Sam messages and will ultimately kidnap her and Jason will be her hero!
Let’s cut to the Chase. Just had to mention the self-defense class today. My goodness, Nina is more awkward in her sweats than regular attire. Throwing those legs and arms around, looking so uncomfortable. I kept waiting for that half heart necklace to pop out of Willow’s shirt. We know its coming soon , these two women that can’t stand each other, winding up mother and daughter. I think Willow will be able to hold her own with Nina, and not let herself be overpowered. If we didn’t know better, we could see where Charlotte gets her bullying from.
Cute word play there, Violet 🙂 And I agree with your post. If we didn’t know Charlotte was Lulu’s her behavior would indicate a Nina mini-me. LOL; I’ve always liked Nina but her Charlotte obsession and overbearing mama bear (which would be great under the right circumstances) is annoying.
Chase? I’d chase him anywhere; he could chase me anywhere. Too much? LOL; he’s just so gorgeous! (And just got engaged to an equally stunning actress.)
rebecca1
First of all, I’ve missed your posts, or have I just MISSED them? Honey, if I were about sixty years younger, I’d chase him, until he caught me! He’s a cutie alright, and dimples you could drown in.
LOL; Hi, Violet; no you haven’t missed my posts. I haven’t been around “these here parts” for a while. Thought I’d pop in and see if some of my ol’ buds were still here, you included. 😉
Sigh. I’m afraid neither one of us would have a chance even if we were 20; his fiance is gorgeous! Striking couple.
But, hey! Soaps are all about the make believe/fantasy, right? 😉
Happy New Year!
Nina was jumping up and down like a 13 year old! How embarrassing!
For some reason, GH thinks it’s cute to have “women of a certain age” act like silly, giddy teenagers, whether it be Nina’s strangely adolescent behavior, especially with men, or Alexis with her repeatedly gross tendency to play the schoolgirl in uncontrollable heat like it’s the first time she’s ever experienced such overwhelming physical urges. Not only are such displays humiliating and repulsive, but they are an absolute insult to mature, sophisticaled females who left that childish conduct behind when they graduated from junior high!!!
Timm, better Nina than Sam. Otherwise Sam would have two black eyes after jumping up and down like a coltish teenager.
Ha Ha Ha!
Bullying is taught it’s not genetic.
The writers probably dont know what he is up to…lol…but in that picture he reminds me of soap writer Ron C.
That remark he made to Sam about people oftimes change their names, when they change their lives stuck with me. Chrissy is being very naive, and hope she turns down offers of Kool-aid. I say he’s up to no good, but time will tell.
Violet…He sorta reminds me of the Levi character from a few years ago. Certainly he’s up to no good.
Rose, that Levi was a piece of work wasn’t he,
but he was more of a jerky guy. This one is more of a a chamelian type, just by the way he changes his facial expressions, and his scary eyes.
I forgot to say that I think the involvement with Sam is obvious, but I can’t figure out the Drew and Jason connection yet.
Most definitely like Levi.
oh gee, another storyline that makes Jason and sam front and center, why o why?
Hey- does anyone know what music was playing in the background @ the Floating Rib on Hank’s 12/27 debut? Tx
I loved that song too!
Might be Andrew Belle ‘in my veins’
Hard Times is the name of that song, not sure by who
I’m intrigued…and he’s a Julian lookalike!
You stole the words right out of my mouth, rebecca1! If they were smart, they’d work that angle!
And Happy New Year to you, Friend!
Another useless storyline…with characters we care nothing about.
so what does shiloh want? he’s here to upset gh fan who will now complaint about the newbie taking up air time from the vets. his end game will be to get those fans to endlessly complain about gh overloaded cast, and how they will quit watching and of course they will also start predicting like crazy gh cancellation. shiloh end game? make those gh fans head explode!
Aria. I’m just worried about when Shiloh will be introduced to Willow. “Willow
meet Shiloh. Willow, Shiloh. “
Rofl !!
It took a while, but we finally have another actor with the surname McLaughlin working on GH!!
It’s obviously clear why the Y&R is number one and has been for 30 years!
WOW, he could be a Jerome! I dont mind the guy. I know the cast is already too big but its a new story. It might suck but nothing as bad as Y&R right now! I watched Friday’s “Cliffhanger” episode in 15 minutes!
Hi Timmm,
I have read he is a Cassadine. Don’t know how reliable the source is.
Timmm,
Yes, Y&R is pretty boring but predictable right now. Victor really acted like he knew what Nicki was referring to, about who killed JT. I wonder if he does know it was his wife, with a little help from her friends, ha!
Y&R is unbearable, Timm. I can’t believe how bad it’s gotten.
Thats why I dont think GH is to bad right now because I look at Y&R and I dont even recognize it!
as I said… watching Sam and Jason “storm” in to “camp enlightenME first”
I believe 1/2 the audience PLUS is already caught UP in – that – doozy Hank.
Kristina : “Do you have to be such a bitch” Sam is *the little miss know it all” as she searches Jason “face” or EYES for sex or guidance
even Jason has dulled that much more… as his paranoia for the safety of Kristina and his “relationship” with Drew ALL in question… Jason HeMan is on it
then you have Hank reassuring Kristina that she will find herself. OKEY DOKEY Shelly and Chris are really on it themselves.
all the suspicion being played out by Sam and Jason… argh! this is laugh out loud stuff.. just be quiet , go backburner, put on your costume already…
Shelly and Chris , SHOULD HAVE explored Hank / Shiloh… BEFORE letting in the dullard . JUST AS THEY SHOULD have done the same with Ryan… altho… I am giving this one legs because they have slowed down immensely the interaction with the equally lame and suspicious Carly and laura. let some mystery intrigue and imagination PLAY OUT !!!!
give us an effing break !!!! Shelly and Chris = “write”
why would we want to see Sam and Jason that quickly.. they are on every effin day
I think Shiloh is a smoke screen used by DA Margeaux to keep Jason busy so he doesn’t see what’s going on with Sonny. And please Ryan/Kevin make Christina your next victim she is the dumbest 25 year old I’ve ever seen on the soap planet. Why do they always have to make her a easily lead AIR HEAD.

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.
Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).
As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.
Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen. The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day. Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking. The adults would, but not Hayden. I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”
Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”
Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”
Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”
Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”
Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”
Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”
“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”
“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”
Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️
Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”
Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.
As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.
Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.
Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).
He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

SECOND STOP, SALEM
Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”
Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”
DEVLIN’S WIG
The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.
JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN
The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”
As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.
