DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Chad Is Brainwashed By Andre! What Did You Think Of The Scenes?

Courtesy/NBC

Courtesy/NBC

On Thursday’s episode of Days of our Lives, in quite an array of images from the disturbing – bugs, cats, explosions – interpersed with images of Belle (Martha Madison), Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) did the unthinkable and brainwashed his brother, Chad (Billy Flynn)!

After hijacking Chad’s hypnosis therapy session with Marlena (Deidre Hall), he gives his ‘bro’ a freakish therapy session of his own, strapping him to a chair, and strapping his head down. Next, Chad is forced to watch a screen and fed images to literally rip Abigail (Kate Mansi) out of Chad’s heart, and seemingly replace it with Belle’s! In a heartbreaking moment, a tear streams down Chad’s face.

All of this is Andre’s attempt to have Chad go after Belle to retrieve the stolen DiMera fortune! And all of this, just as Abby and Chad had a moment of coming together after their long-suffering months of terror due to serial killer Ben (Rob Scott Wilson).  But it looks like with any super couple in the making, happiness is fleeting! Meanwhile,  Stefano (Joe Mascolo) was to be pleased when he happened upon the scene of Andre brainwashing Chad!  He admonished Andre for his actions.

Now comes the big questions:  Will Chad sleep with Belle for the DiMera fortune?  Can he snap out of it? Is Andre’s new reign of terror going to be even farther reaching?

Let us know:  Were you disturbed by the visions that Chad was enduring while being brainwashed? What do you think will happen next? Comment below!

Days has taken pages from RC to bring their ratings up and keep its’ fan intrigued, surprised by shockers, twists & turn and on the edge suspenseful drama with cliffhangers, every day.
And- it works..
RC brought in 3 million with his twist & turns on the edge WOW moments and humorous writing.
Days did well to heighten the dark drama and give its’ fans thrills and WOW moments and pull back on the yawn love problems junk. with exception of the two main couples.
It’s working, a good thing for Days..

LONG LIVE THE SOAPS!!!!

RC? Ha!

Are you the lead writer? LOL! I respectfully disagree. I prefer soapy to CSI.

What is RC?

I thought the scenes were full of IT. Unrealistic; without substance. All of them. Since when does Stefano sit by and allow another, matters not if it’s his son, give orders? Looks bad, really bad. Ritorni, Stefano. Tuo figlio e’ matto.

Thanks Ceec’

why would the writers defame… weaken Stefano love for HIS family… his children… ?

doesn’t make sense… all for the $500 million that Sami bilked from ? which is another weak spot… AS’ Sami isn’t even on the show… and they let her get away with that? laughable…

The DiMera family has and always should be pivotal in moving Salem.

DOOL would not exist; had it not been for the DiMera Empire… I believe Thaao Penghlis thread… that The DiMera live with tragedy…

oy! it’s hard to swallow… when you think of all those actors associated with the DiMera

Lexie
Peter
Kristen
Tony
etc… etc…

just major game players

be that as it may… this story certainly is telling… that Thaao Penghlis’ Andre days are numbered… along with the dearly departed… retired… Joseph Mascolo

could this be the time… that the new writing team factors in ; EJ is alive … well… he’s respiting… and back with a vengeance

or ; could this be the best time… to recast or rehire Jason Brooks… to reign supreme as the new leader of ; all that is DiMera

what better time for DAYs to feature the new leads ; Peter or EJ… with Vincent Irizarry’ Deimos’

@Patrick.
Absolutely right, Patrick.
Furthermore, what is $500 mil. to the DiMeras? Pittance! Can’t they come out with something more gripping? Something that doesn’t make me go, Hmmmm and Huh??

I agree, what a disjointed and chaotic mess.
I liked the show a little more when I first started watching about 2 1/2 years ago or so when it was Sonny, Will, Sammi, EJ, Abigail, etc. Now it’s so confusing, with all new characters, I haven’t missed an episode but can’t seem to follow what is going on.
Who’s this new gal in town (she used to play Bianca’s gal friend on AMC, for a while, I think….) and why is she putting on sickly looking make up?
I can’t stand Andre and Stefano’s over the top cornball acting is for the birds.

So disappointed that, after a big surge in DOOL ratings, they are once again reverting to these far-fetched plots. Brainwashing, programming, etc. What’s next? Satan again? If you want to keep viewers, keep it real. Recent stories were mostly good. Please go back there. I don’t care for the Abby character, but this new stuff is terrible.

Sarah and Tim Welles.
As much as we all (mostly all..lol) wanted Ben to get his up-commence, his diabolical storyline kept us entranced and in suspense. I couldn’t wait for the next episode. Ben stole the show, with Chad the perfect foil. I won’t be so naive as to think Days would remain as interesting and engaging as it had suddenly become….deep down we all knew that as soon as the story would climax, down would go the interest. Makes me very sad. All the characters you mention Tim brought a sense of comfort to the soap. Now, as you indicate, Sarah, everything is a mish-mash again….I really am so annoyed with this imbecilic brainwashing ridiculousness. Thaao is being wasted. Shame. I was so happy when he resurfaced, only to be disappointed. I care not about this eternal venture John has been on all his life….when will it stop? And this Larson guy….who cares!!
Satan, indeed. My grandmother told me that when Marlena ‘grew horns’ per se, lol, she stopped watching for the duration. Also, I have been complaining about Abby since day one. She did redeem herself temporarily when prepped by Ben, she could very well be nominated. But, I am so tired of these Maid Marian, damsel in distress spurts, I want to throw something. All she does is stare wide-eyed at everything within her line of vision. Then, I said this before, when she stresses out, she blows like a fish. That’s all we got. I don’t care about the guy who tortured Bo is now after a faceless factor. Have we met him. I can’t remember.
Furthermore, what kind of medical professional can be fooled by drawing infected blood in some kind of pouch taped to someone’s arm? This, too, is starting to look like a DICK AND JANE BOOK. Infantile.
I am sorry, guys, for having subjected you to my rant. Lol.

That’s all right your points are extremely valid and well-taken!
I realize very well that it’s a “soap” and we all have to allow for the fact that this doesn’t mirror real life, but a little credibility is expected. I work in the Medical Field so many of the scenes are laughable but I watch for the entertainment value. Why would Dr. Kayla be convinced that this new gal (obviously a character from before I was a viewer) has Leukemia just because she put on unflattering make-up and darkened under her eyes? How many more times is raspy voiced John (a gigantic bore) going to be “asking questions” about his family history and frankly who the heck cares –
Also, although I guess her storyline has wrapped, what has become of Eve? I guess with Paige being killed, and the illicit affair with JJ over, there isn’t much for Eve to do – her dating scenes with Justin really aren’t all that thrilling, no offense to the actors who are both just fine.
I don’t know, to me, the show needs some stronger storylines to hold my interest.

Well I think it was one of the cruelest things I’ve seen the Dimera’s do. It is one thing when they do this stuff to their so called enemies, but when they do this to one of their own family members that is cold. I just hope Abigail will be a lot sharper than some of Salemites and realize that Chad has been brainwashed and get him some help. It is time for her to rescue him— that is what all great soap couples do.

it’s absolutely cruel… and weakens the character of STefano DiMera… he would never allow this familial destruction

if the plot point is ; for the money sami bilked … this isn’t good for the character assasination of ; Stefano… and even Andre himself… he’s a DiMera… what’s his act? revenge… a total takeover cause daddy imobile… lacks the firepower… of ole?

ugh!

I can only hope DAYS brings back EJ from the dead… or Peter Blake… to go toe to toe head to head… with the new man about town… Kiriakis ‘ LEAD Vincent Irizarry’ Deimos

let it be EJ or Peter that rescues Chad and reinvigorates the Empire that will always reign… DiMera

why else would Salem exist

I’m glad Chad and Abby remain front and center, but I hope this crisis doesn’t last for months.

Will a brainwashed Chad sleep with Belle…will she too be brainwashed to sleep with Chad-does she even know Chad…Meanwhile this Ava, Kayla and Patch plot almost feels like a thinly disguised Kristen, Marlena and John plot!!!

LOL, Jimmy. You are right on track about the laughable plot.
Also, I don’t think Chad is brainwashed. Could he be faking it? He knows how diabolical Andre is and I truly believe he wants to safeguard the family from ruin; that is, financially. He could also be protecting Abby from all that is DiMera right now. Andre is out of control putting Chad in a precarious position which would mean having to reveal all to Abby. Obviously he can’t do that. So, the next best thing would be to keep her at arms-length. Merry Christmas, Jimmy, my friend.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and all posters!!!

I fast-forwarded these scenes. DOOL is too violent and upsetting. If they keep it up, then I will quit watching it completely. Who thought Andres was a good addition, by the way? DOOL has the least attractive men of all soaps.

What the heck do looks have to do with it? Thaao is a popular actor, in a ‘strange’ role. And, Days is no more violent than GH or Y&R. The fires? The identity switches; the mob lords….to name a few. DOOL has been more graphic with the Ben storyline, but the concept of violence is silently understood in the other soaps…..it’s there like a fantasm. I will always watch no matter how much I may point out ‘things’ that are unrealistic or ridiculous, or how much some characters irritate me. It is your prerogative not to watch. So, don’t watch. We won’t miss you. Happy Holidays.

I thought it was ridiculous. Andre was waiting for Chad to come back to the mansion to spring this plot on him for him to seduce Belle. He had no idea Chad was going to be heading straight out to Marlena’s office, or that Chad would for sure turn him down. And yet, despite that, he somehow put this plan together on the sly, got to Marlena’s office ahead of Chad, hid in her closet without her seeing him, brought materials to knock Marlena out and inject Chad – and then promptly took him to a secure location to show him multiple films that he would have just had to put together since it contained scene of Belle and Abigail recently shot – that by the way, would have been impossible for him to obtain (particularly Abigail’s).

Much like all timing on this show, it made no sense. Single days on this show last for a week or two, with enough going on in that day to fill most people’s month. And couldn’t they have given Chad and Abigail more than 24 hours to kind of be together? Part of investing in a couple is actually getting to see them together for at least a little bit – so the audience understands the stakes. It is in them being together, that you see what they have, what they could have – and then you pull them apart. You have to have stakes and you can’t have stakes if they are never together long enough to truly establish any real relationship stakes.

I couldn’t agree more. Andre is like a cartoon character. And those sunglasses he was sporting to be incognito at the hospital made me LOL. How many times can Marlena be attacked in her office btw before University Hospital hires security? At least they had John comment on that. As for the brainwashing scenes, I ff’d.

I wholeheartedly agree about the timing on this show. Its’ beyond ridiculous. And don’t get me started on the 20 lb preemie that is already cooing and making baby sounds.

I agree too – who in the heck is writing this jazz? I liked the show better when it centered around Sonny, Will, Derrick and Paul – and I also enjoyed Sami and EJ and JJ’s romance with Paige complicated by Eve.
Now, I can barely follow what’s going on, and I never miss a show, I am just one day behind because I watch it on my RoKu device on the NBC app –
So many “new characters” or return of older characters, it’s hard to keep up. I can only take so much of the cartoonish like villain Andre nor can I accept most of Stefano’s monosyllabic cornball responses. None of it is convincing to me and absurdly idiotic to boot.
Show really needs a solid storyline right now.
Also, I don’t know how everyone else feels, it’s not that thrilling to have “Patch” with Kayla picking out fake Christmas trees –

I thought that was really stupid. I haven’t watched the show in weeks and yesterday decided to check it out. When I turned it on I saw the flashes of all these weird clips and thought “WTF?” I know about that process to brainwash people but seeing it on Days just made me roll my eyes.

Then I watched other clips with Belle, Joey, Patch, Kayla and the killer lady that returned but I couldn’t get into it. I did like seeing Brady and Theresa but the outlook for Days does not look good. I miss when Days was Must See but that hasn’t been for a couple years.

DOOL was so unbelievable for months that I worried how it would maintain the pace and momentum. There are certain things working and others not so much. The biggest issue I have with the show is the pacing and missed opportunities.

First, characters leave without having an opportunity to feel the big payoff. Clyde slipped out of town to go to jail in Florida. There should have been some scenes involving Victor, Stefano and Kate. Ben was arrested less than a week ago and all we hear is that he is on suicide watch. Let us see the scenes where he is taken to a padded cell. The characters that were killed off should have had a long-term fallout (Paige and Will). Eve has basically gone MIA. Where is Paul? Why is Marlena not grieving more about Will’s death?

Second, the pacing of the show has left me feeling like a lot of scenes were left on the cutting room floor. Where was Jennifer immediately after Abigail was rescued? Why did we not see Jennifer’s anger and fear that her daughter had gone through such an ordeal? The days that follow a tragedy are not making sense. JJ going out on a date with Gabby the day after Abigail’s rescue is not making sense. Ciara did not act a young girl that lost her father the days after Bo’s death?

There are TOO many newbies that are dominating screen time. We are still adjusting to Ciera, Chase and Theo growing up to be teenagers overnight. So far, I have been underwhelmed. It feels slightly gross that Chase has romantic for his half-sister.

I also wish the show would stop bringing in new characters and then…nothing. Where is Fynn and Claire?

The writers have obviously chosen not to write for Nicole, Eric and Daniel. Two years ago, Ari Z was nominated for Best Actress (Daytime Emmy) and now all we get is to see her once a week, having a conversation with Theresa? Are we going to care that Daniel dies in the coming months? It already seems like he is gone from the show. The character of Eric has been a bore since Serena died.

I can’t help but feel the show put too much effort into the anniversary shows and not enough thought in the weeks after. NuPhillip, NuBelle, NuCiera, NuChase and NuTheo does not lend to an entertaining show.

Lastly, I did not want to see Hope lose her mind over Aidan and Bo dying, but I am already bored with the revenge storyline. It seems so out of character that I do not find it believable.

Agree totally especially with lack of reaction. Jennifer’s daughter was kidnapped my a murderous husband, she has a geandchild in nice, her daughter barely survived being burned alive, and her routine seems pretty much the same.

For me, the only two positive things about this storyline are…
1) Watching Billy Flynn try to pull this “RoboChad” off, with those expressive eyes of his. I think he did well with what he was given, especially considering how ridiculous as the storyline is and how many plot holes it has.
2) The payoff that is sure to come because you know Chad is going to be absolutely FURIOUS with Andre once he’s 100% himself again. I’m not even sure furious is a strong enough word. Looks to me like they needed a setup to make Chad want to destroy Andre…and this is definitely it.

We just have to be patient. But Chabby is certainly getting the supercouple treatment right now.

The main thing that is making me angry about this storyline, is how Marlena has immediately assumed Chad was somehow involved, and continued to be cold even after he explained himself to her today. Did they just throw away the last several months of the relationship that had developed between Chad and Marlena? I don’t get that at all. Maybe it’ll make more sense later on next week.

Just a few months ago, Stefano wanted Chad to break Ben up so he could be with Abby and get Abby’s land inheritance. Now he’s with Abby. Maybe the old gal hasn’t died. So I’m confused as to why they don’t want him with Abby anymore. I get that the money Belle potentially has is A LOT (and on a sidenote, $500 million is very popular on the soaps. Jabot paid Newman that sum on Y&R.), but surely the DiMeras can’t be destitute.

Should be interesting, though I did like Abby and Chad together and hope Tom is Chad’s child.

Ron Carlivati ONLY brought good ratings to GH when he focused on vets and returning faves. His outlandish stories and focus on newbies brought GH record low ratings. Days has been doing outrageous stories for decades. Long before the absurd Faison mask story, in 1984, Andre wore a Roman mask and Killed people. These stories work on Days because we actually care about the characters!

Now this is the Andre that we all know and love. I wonder if he is part of that organization John was told about.

Brainwashing? Please let’s not go down such a crazy path. It’s silly.

It’s camp and not my favorite kind of storyline, but on the plus side, it is the kind of storyline that a couple-to-root-for gets, and it’s a sign that DOOL knows how good Chad and Abby are together. I also think that if anyone can pull off the villain in this storyline, Thaao Penghlis is the actor to do it. I also have to give credit to the writers and Billy Flynn for showing Chad resisting the brainwashing and crying during the process as he tried to say Abby’s name. That’s some excellent soapy, romantic stuff right there!

Soaps need a balance of light and dark, joy and evil to work and Days upset this balance in a disturbing way. Abby and Chad needed time to recover and experience some happiness before another sadistic storyline emerged. This is kinda sick, actually.

I loved every second of it!

Well YOU are most certainly NOT in the majority that’s for certain.

Absolutely absurd, laughable. I miss the show that we had just a couple months ago. Most familiar and liked characters are gone and dropping like flies. It seems 10 new characters…STRANGERS…pop up on the screen each week. I don’t care about these people. To me, appeal of soaps is you know these people, they are friends in your home. I really fear this complete turnover is going to be a huge bust.

I do too….it’s like…who ARE these people? To me, it’s as if I’m watching the wrong show or a different show. I realize new characters pop up time to time but this has been like….wha…..

I’m interested in this; from the standpoint: Billy Flynn

will the writing exact or take a toll on all the the audience has been responding to… and cheering on…. Billy Flynn’ ACTING

he has been riveting… thanks in large part… to Robert Scott Wilson..and .. surprise surprise… in large part… to kate Mansi…. Abs has been spot on… emmy worthy… every since she found out about Chads amnesia…. she’s revived Abs big

Abs and Chad are forwarding DAYS

This is the kind of storytelling days does best! I love how ever character seems to have something exciting happening at the moment. I love action/adventure, Science fiction, intrigue plots.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! If you’re going to do something totally crazy like brainwashing. He should have been kidnapped and strapped to that table for days, like RoboJohn years ago. But he was in and out of that chair in one scene. FAIL!

Perhaps you didn’t notice that Chad was hypnotized first, that’s why it didn’t take long!! People will do anything they’re told after being hypnotized. He was hypnotized and then brainwashed. I don’t think this was a fail at all. It was AWESOME!

Actually I didn’t notice that, thanks for the clarification. I unfortunately find myself fast forwarding through a lot of Days. Even though I’m super dissapointed in the show I’m glad other people seem to be liking it. I’ve been watching for almost 20 years and I want to show to succeed. Just wish it would succeed and I was enjoying it more!

DAYS and ‘Supernatural’ Alum Jensen Ackles Joins the Cast of Justin Hartley’s CBS Series ‘Tracker’

Look who’s joining Justin Hartley’s hit freshman drama, Tracker! None other than another soap alum, former Days of our Lives and Supernatural favorite Jensen Ackles.

In a reveal via Hartley’s Instagram on Thursday, Ackles is set to play Hartley’s on-screen brother on the CBS procedural drama. In Tracker, Colter Shaw is estranged from his brother, Russell, which has been a big part of the mystery of season one.

Ackles is best known for his long run as Dean Winchester in The CW’s Supernatural, a role he reprised in the prequel of the series The Winchesters. He also recently starred in ABC’s Big Sky as Sheriff Beau Arlen and in The Boys as Soldier Boy.

Jensen was the original Eric Brady on Days of our Lives, a role he played from 1997-2000, before departing for the world of primetime and film.  Eric was in love with Nicole played by Arianne Zucker. The part of Eric was recast with Greg Vaughan taking over the role in 2012.

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

Photo: JPI

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Photo: JPI

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Photo: JPI

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

Photo: JPI

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on DAYS?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Photo: JPI

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor. I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job.” I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
