FRIDAY: GH's Jason and Sam Ring In The New Year With A Kiss!

Courtesy/ABC

With an unknowing assist from Carly (Laura Wright), Jason (Steve Burton) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) end up on the Haunted Star for New Year’s Eve, and on Friday’s upcoming episode of General Hospital, the former lovebirds share a smooch as the clock strikes twelve in this sneak peek released exclusively today by EW.com complete with a video clip of the moment.

It’s been five years since Jason and Sam have shared a kiss, or any romantic moment since Jason was “killed”.  Since his return to Port Charles in the fall of this year, it brought with it so many complications, twists and turns.  Chief among them for Sam, who has been married for the last few years to Jason’s twin, Drew (Billy Miller), and whom she loves with all her heart and shares a child with.

Will this lip-lock deter Sam from her relationship with Drew, or prove to be a determining factor to stay with him, and not return to Jason?  Hmmm.  The big moment on Friday comes about as Jason and Sam reminisce about past New Year’s together and more.  Watch the clip here.

Then, let us know, are you glad to see that Jason and Sam will share a moment together, or do you want Jason far away from Sam and her to remain with Drew? Comment below.

I think character Sam has a great chemistry with Drew. The old Sam and Jason is done. I don’t see a future storyline for Drew without Sam . But Jason will be a better character to move on with more action and drama. Pro Sam and Drew here .

Me, too, Cory, but first we need to neutralize Typhoon Carly. And take her name off Scout’s godparent file. Doesn’t make sense when you’re plotting to destroy the child’s family.

I totally agree. That is Carly at her absolute worst. Why she feels she has the right to interfere in other people’s lives is beyond me. Here’s hoping Sam puts her in her place.

I think there’s a lot of story for Drew whether he’s with Sam or not.For example we don’t know much about his past.Yeah we know Drew was romantically involved with Kim but there could be other women he was involved with too that could pop up.Plus Drew could get involved in ELQ in some way.

Absolutely, Andrew. Drew has a loooong story to tell….

Agree. His story has been the same from day 1. Can’t remember, maybe married, have kid I don’t know about. Pretending to be a navy seal who doesn’t remember being one, except for when convenient. I’m over this KM BM drama. Sam’s personality has been so aborted I expect to see KM with pom pom’s and an I love Drew/BM uniform on any day now. I don’t know if its writing or KM having some sort of rumored relationship with BM but in my opinion, if KM no longer wishes to portray the character of Sam, retire her and let… Read more »

this is where i as a viewer i’m not interested, since i’m a liz fan, and don’t really get why the show chooses to make both drew and jason so in love w/ sam, really? i don’t get it, sorry, for some reason liz is relegated again to a supporting character while sam, carly, drew jason sonny now again are the center of the universe. when jason and or drew show alt least some interest in liz then to me this tale will be a better one, as for now, i’m not getting all the Sam love the show seems… Read more »

I am a Jasam fan but I adore Liz and I agree. Give us more Liz. She is a fantastic character and Rebecca is a great actress. I also feel like we do few long time characters left, we need to use them more. Especially the girls.

I agree as well, but only because I am more disgusted with the character Sam is turning into then with the horrible things liz did to Jason in the past. And good or bad at least Liz has her own identity, she’s not just an emotionless puppet.

I’m with you, aria.
I loooove Miss Lizzie….never saw the appeal in Sam; sexual or otherwise. Am I allowed to say that? Will I be castigated?
One ridiculous occurrance after another.
The only interest for me, right now, is watching the “birth” and “evolution” of Nelle. No pun intended….I am enjoying this confused, spiteful, mischievous, yet vulnerable girl, more than I can say—-stick it to Sonny and Carly, the most sanctimoniously imperfect, uninspiring baffoons, doing their pantomime dance without music, on stage.
Carly reminds me of a hurricane…..watch out !!

Great analogy comparing Carly to that particular natural disaster, CeeCee!!!! She certainly is a real force with which to to be reckoned….not that I would necessarily consider that to be a good thing given her usual tendency to throw a spanner in the works—regardless of the situation!!! No matter how well-intended–or NOT!—her stubborn, resolute machinations most often wreak greater havoc than a hurricane…and the clean up takes far more time and effort!

@Shay.
Hope you had a “fulfilling” Christmas, ma belle…..I feel as stuffed as a tray of lasagne…..
Yeah, our girl Carly……busy bee…..talk about ” The Tale of the Fishwife of Strand-on- the-Green”, LOL.
What befuddles me the most ( or should I say who) is Sonny. Was he always so acquiescent to his wife’s whims? What kind of a scary mafioso is he? I can see the skirt and apron strings dangling from his tuxedo. ….was it a tuxedo?

Well, CeeCee, the tradition continues….my first “lost” post of 2018 was directed to you! Coincidence???? Lol….So, to repeat….yes, it was a lovely Christmas, thank you very much….I shan’t expound for the sake of expediency, but the appearance of the fluffy white stuff for the first December 25th in a few years definitely added to the enchantment of the festive season! Hope yours was equally special! As for your Carly comments??? Oh, I had no idea ‘Carly’ was a nickname of ‘Caroline’. Ok, you ‘re right. She needs to be reined-in…. out of control….thing is, she truly believed what she did, does; is for the greater good.

In response to your “Carly comments,” CeeCeeGirl, let’s just say the current version is older, wiser and—-in her own way—more settled. Despite being an impetuous loose cannon and inveterate busybody when it comes to her friends and family, she is still a far cry from the more brittle and duplicitous femme which the character once was. Perhaps if Dr. Kim goes off the rails in the future, you will get a sense of how TB’s Carly differed from the strong “I Am Woman” that Laura Wright portrays. As for why this Carly…or any of them…deigned to be with Sonny is… Read more »

Your description of Carly is visually effective… ….though, I must say that I have had a dose of KB’s cote’ noire during her short stint at DOOL, as Ava….must be something in the name? LOL. I do get her stormy behavior being somewhat more effusive when around Jason…..almost like a craving. So, why push him and Sam together? Why not try digging her claws and sharp tongue into him? ..,.( now, now, people—not meant literally; figure of speech….get your mind outta there, LOL)…..I’m sure you assume correctly; in that, Jason was… Read more »

@CeeCee….I am also beginning to think that Faison may indeed be the grand prize winner of the “Nathan BabyDaddy” sweepstakes….not because he was the intended father all along, but simply for the sake of expediency! This revelation has been stalled for an absolute age, and now that the time to spill this long-held secret is nigh, I simply don’t believe the writers want to expend too much time or imagination on this news. I will always suspect that the originally evil incarnate concept of the character Valentin was meant to be the source of Nathan’s paternity, and logically speaking, even… Read more »

@Shay. What we have here is a double twist? What a stunning turn of events….Soooo-ooh, Faison has another son? I did not wuite understand if this second son is a goodie or a baddie. Is it Griffin? Conceived while Faison was wearing a Duke mask? Is Anna, as I intimated form the first day we were introduced to Griffin, his mother? Or Alex’s son? If this is true, then, my suggestion that Nathan and Griffin are brothers could be right. Now, the only mystery left is, who is Nelle’s and Kiki’s real mother? LOL. Alas, CeeCeeGirl, we have been proved correct in our suppositions about Nathan’s paternity…color me rather disappointed! I think this plot point is a cop out, but I guess we’ll simply have to roll with it! Of course, given their striking resemblance to one another, Nathan and Griffin would be perfectly cast as “The Brothers Faison,” but me thinks the other Cesar spawn will be a newer addition to Port Charles…perhaps Peter “August” as “Octavian?” He did just sort of conveniently show up out of nowhere around the same time Faison purportedly went mental over his traitor’s turnabout, so coincidence???? Anyway, I honestly never believed that Britt and Nathan were full-sibs….I guess I simply wanted a highly-dramatic denouement to the whole paternity issue, so I considered every possibility save for the most obvious one. WOW!….I just noticed we are thinking along the same lines, AJ…..except I said Drew would end up with Kim.
I have had that presumption since the viewer found out Kim and Drew shared a bit of a romantic history and a son.
However, if Burton’s tenure is a short one, what then? Assuming Sam and Jason are together, but leaves…..Who gets Drew? A cat fight between Sam and Kim? Better yet—–feline city if Liz is free of Franco.

Hi Soaphound…

No, you’re certainly not the only one who has a problem with Carly. I haven’t liked the character since she tortured AJ and turned Michael against him. Then turned against Franco. Now, Drew. She’s just completely unlikable.

And, yes, I agree and have agreed with you how hideously the character Drew has been treated by Sonny, Carly, Diane, Robin. Spinelli and Michael were sweet toward him though and Monica’s been great. But you probably also know I’m somewhere in the middle about who I’d like to see Sam with. I really do have feelings for both. Like Sam. !!!! 😉

I couldn’t watch it. It really hurts since Drew is a stand up guy who wronged absolutely no one. The writing was done so well up until this scene, it is really disappointing that they took a sharp turn in the story to placate the JaSam backlash on socmed. If the story had focused on bringing the brothers together to uncover Dr. Nero, her lover August and their plot under the ultimate direction of Hayden via Nicolas to scorn the twins then I think the audience would have stayed for the ride into February sweeps. That was just a rotten stunt Carly pulled on Drew, who is suppose to be her friend. It was also a cruel stunt to pull on Jason as it will only freshen the realization of all that he’s lost. Our Carly anger is a great unifier. Poor Drew being stuck in a car with that odd little Kim person when he wanted to be on the Love Boat with his lady love.
I truly felt sorry for all three parties and wish Jason would not give Carly a pass this time.

I never saw the chemistry between Sam and Andrew! Maybe because he was never Jason Morgan. To say Drew doesn’t deserve what may or may not happen. How can anyone enjoy Sam being with Jason brother? First, some thought he was Jason when that wasn’t true, Sam love Drew who she thought was Jason. Pay attention she is beginning to want to know who is Andrew Cain!

Well it’s about time! For Goodness sakes! All I know is the new writers obviously did not watch the last 10 years of history with these two. Drew is ok, and handsome ok…. but he’s not Jason. He’s not the man Sam thought he was, even thou she tried to convince herself. I don’t understand viewers and their nastiness towards SB/Jason!?! I mean he made the role of Jason, why should Drew, after only 2 years, be the man that so many fans, and yes by that I mean the loyal fans and even the traders of today who suddenly… Read more »

THIS is what i’m not getting…by the WRITERS “..chances are I’d be so overwhelmed with even just the sight of him, ” 1. if i’m going to deal with Sam… she worked – well – with Steve Burton.. I accepted this… I swear I keep recalling.. LET SB Jason.. give her that oriental figurine… that will clinch and bring every thing back. when they married at the Chinese restaurant the power of her – ALSO – being pregnant.. at the time of his “death” would have made that bond impenetrable I SERIOUSLY – DO NOT – like that the writers… Read more »

Love your depiction—-Sam behind a desk? It does strike a discordant note, Patrick!!!!!!! Yes, they can rot, albeit Jason is truly trying to keep it going smoothly for everyone. ….I did have a sour taste on my tongue when he gave Carly a pass for meddling in people’s lives….no consequences? Bah!! Sam? Well, she does look out of place sitting pretty unsightly ( pardon the oxymoron—always morose; saaaad!!) at that executive escritoire. Too somnambulistic for me ….impervious to her surroundings. But, Patrick…Kelly fits well as the damsel in distress…..she is doing a fantastic job with this role of confused wife,… Read more »

I am excited for the kiss. Even if Sam ends up with Drew she can’t deny how much she loves Jason. Up until a few weeks ago she thought Drew was Jason, that she had her second chance with the only man she ever truly loved. That Jason was alive and he came back to her. She didn’t suddenly stop having that deep passionate love she had for Jason just because she is being told the last 2 years were with someone else. It is not that she hasn’t loved the last 2 years of her life, it just that… Read more »

I’m ready for the kiss. As a long time fan of the show and supporter of Jasam through the years its been incredibly hard for me to watch Sam interact with jason without showing him the love she has ALWAYS had. I’m ready for the crack in her armour surrounding her heart. I’m ready for her to freak out and push him away but the thought of the kiss in the back of her mind. I’m ready for her to realize in order to move on and marry Drew- she’d have to divorce Jason. I’m ready for her to not… Read more »

I believe Carly was right when she told Sam that her and Jason are both trying to do the noble thing in the impossible situation that they’re in. Sam is trying to do the noble thing by sticking by drew because he feels abandon by everyone. She thought he was Jason for the last two years. Yes I believe she loves drew , but she’s in love with Jason . Like Carly said Jason and Sam own each other’s hearts . They’ve seen what they have been through and overcome as a couple . They know how much they love… Read more »

No one could ever play Jason the way Steve plays him. I am so looking forward to this. There is something so magical about Jason & Sam that just can’t be matched by Sam and Drew. They truly are each other’s equal. They have a way of conveying so much to one another without even saying a word. That’s what makes this couple so beautiful. They just get one another. I have been waiting since 2012 for this moment. I took two years of GH when Jason left, my heart was brocke for Sam. And now the real Jason is back, and as a JASAM fan I would like to see both of them together, what I like about Sam is because she is very adventurous, never boring, and she is the only one that never asked Jason to change for who is, and today’s Sam, she is boring and whiney and needy, I am very please and looking forward that this dous JASAM will be sharing a kiss… I can’t wait .

I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Today KM/Sam just tossed out everything she was adventurous, independent, fierce, kind-hearted, the kind of woman real women admired and rooted for in one-felled swoop. All for the love of a man so insecure he couldn’t stop crying long enough to realize his character never actually saw Jasam kissing. Now, Drew’s seemingly emotionless, dimwitted, and drab Sam has announced that JaSam’s adventurous, emotionally supportive, but most importantly, just plain hot lifestyle is not who she is nor what she wants anymore. Her heart belongs to the unstable crybaby, who either (is or isn’t) really… Read more »

Cailtin Reilly to Appear in General Hospital Tribute Episode to Her Father John Reilly

Tik Tok star, Cailtin Reilly, who is the daughter of the late soap veteran, John Reilly, will play a key role in the General Hospital tribute episode in her dad’s honor.

According to Variety who broke the casting news, Caitlin will portray Annie, formerly known as Anna, the daughter of her father’s character Sean Donely and Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt).

In a statement on her casting,  Caitlyn expressed: “Words can’t describe how honored I am to be playing my dad’s daughter on the show. I grew up on the set of ‘General Hospital,’ watching him work for years, so it’s exciting to dive into a new character in honor of him. He’ll absolutely be by my side in spirit on set rooting me on. It fills my heart with gratitude to be a part of this tribute to him, and to feel so close to him working on a show he loved so much doing.”

The character of Anna was last seen on-air back in August of 2013, when she was portrayed by Courtney Halverson. In story at that time, Sean was poisoned by polonium and he teamed up with Luke (Anthony Geary) to track down the man who extorted millions for the cure, while Anna repeatedly got in contact with that man to get the medicine her father so desperately needed.

John Reilly past away back in January 2021.  The talented actor first appeared on GH back in 1984 and last appeared on the daytime drama series back in 2013.

So, looking forward to seeing Caitlyn playing Sean and Tiffany’s daughter? Comment below.

Lynn Herring Celebrates 35th Anniversary of Her General Hospital Debut; and ‘We Love Lucy’

Today, April 11th marks the 35th anniversary of the debut of Lynn Herring on General Hospital as Lucy Coe.  And wow, when you look at the road this character has gone on played to the hilt by Herring, it has been one entertaining ride for GH fans along the way.

Lucy started out as a mousy librarian, if you can believe that! And of course, she eventually showed all that she was a bombshell.  She then became quite the schemer and seductress.

Along the way, Lucy was married to Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), was involved with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) and other men in Port Charles.

At one point, Herring took the character of Lucy to the now defunct Port Charles where she stayed from 1997-2003,

But this one time gold-digger eventually became the champion of the GH Nurses’ Ball and helped raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS research. Now, year after year, the one thing you can always look forward to is Herring’s hilarious antics and sincerity in her star turn as the emcee of the annual fundraising event.

On Sunday, the GH tweeted posted: “Lucy Coe knows everything about everyone in Port Charles and we would be lost without her. Please help us congratulate TheLynnHerring on the 35th Anniversary of her #GH debut”.

Lynn responded sharing: “Thank you! Have loved every @GeneralHospital  moment!”

Share your congratulations to Lynn via the comment section below, and let us know your favorite Lucy moment too!

GENERAL HOSPITAL: “I’m Alexis Davis, and I’m a Fighter, and an Idealist, and an Advocate”; Nancy Lee Grahn Gives Masterful Performance In Special Episode

When you combine superb direction, writing, production, and acting in a special episode of a daytime drama, viewers can see and understand the thought and care that went into it.

This was more than on display during Thursday’s highly-anticipated ‘Alexis-Centric’ episode honoring the 25th anniversary of Alexis’ portrayer, two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Nancy Lee Grahn, on General Hospital.

Courtesy/ABC

In the story, symbolism was apparent and used for dramatic impact and it worked beautifully throughout, and best of all, Nancy received a script worthy of her immeasurable talents, and showed us once again why she remains one of the gold standards of our genre.  If you have not seen the episode DO NOT read any further as it contains spoilers.

It begins with an emotional Alexis looking at her mother’s watch which was still frozen from the time of her death.  While playing one of her mother’s records very loudly, she recalls Mikkos Cassadine kissing and dancing with her mom as a young Alexis (Natasha) looked on from the staircase.  When Sam asks her about it, Alexis shares that she sees the watch as sort of a representation for her own life being frozen over the last three years; which has included Alexis’ battle with booze taking over her life and her being disbarred, when being a lawyer was the way she identified herself and what gave her purpose.

Overwhelmed and anxiety-ridden, Alexis hightails it to Kevin’s office for a therapy session knowing she is going to Pentonville in the morning to serve her sentence.  She says she does not know who she is anymore.  Then, Kevin asks her how she spent her day thus far.  She flashes back to lunch with the good men in her life, Finn, Valentin, Jax and Ned.  Valentin tells Alexis she is proud of her for honing up to her mistakes.

Back at the therapy session, Alexis she was an attorney who stood for something and her life has derailed, and that she was a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate.  She knows she has to find a purpose in prison to make it through the three-year term and asks Kevin to help her find one.

Kevin wants to go back to when she was a little girl and her memories that are flooding back to her of Mikkos and her mother.  Just then, the younger version of Alexis is huddled in the corner of Kevin’s office, an image of her from the past.  Alexis tries to come to terms with her father and the choice of dangerous men and relationships that have marred her own happiness  … recalling Julian holding a knife to her throat like Mikkos did to her mother. She says he was one of the toxic men in her life, but Kevin reminds her all of the men in her life were not toxic.

Alexis starts with Ned as one who was good for her saying he was always stable, but she ruined that by recently sleeping with him and putting a wedge in his marriage to her long-time friend, Olivia.

We then flashback to earlier in the day, where Alexis ends up in an almost confrontation with Olivia.  However, Olivia tells her she misses the Alexis Davis she used to be and to get her back.

Now back with Kevin, a guilt-ridden Alexis relays she feels responsible for Neil’s death.  Kevin interjects she is not, nor what happened with Julian.  When Kevin attempts to bring up Mikkos again, Alexis rejects it and is angry that he is making her problem about daddy issues; like so many other women.  She vehemently shouts that the men in her life do not define who she is.

Then, Alexis flashes back to hurtful memories she has buried of a young Natasha witnessing Mikkos calling her mother a “greedy little bitch”.  She recalls it was on Christmas Eve and that Mikkos stopped by to give them gifts. That is when he presented her mother with the watch.  However, things took an ugly turn when he tried to leave, and she threatened to tell Helena all about her and Natasha. Next, Mikkos slapped her and that is when the watch shattered. As all this was going down, a young Natasha watched from the stairs and was horrified that she couldn’t stop her father from beating her mother and remembers how helpless she felt.

However, Alexis reveals to Kevin she thought this would be the last of Mikkos coming by, but he returned on New Year’s Eve and her mother took him back into their lives.  Alexis is beside herself that she could not protect her mother, but Kevin reassures her to remember she was just a child.

Courtesy/ABC

It is then we come to the crux of the story.  Alexis looks over in the corner and sees her younger self crying. She goes to her younger self and tells her nothing that happened was her fault, and that their father was damaged and cruel. She tells the young Natasha this shouldn’t have been her burden to carry alone, and that she deserves to be happy. Then in the moment of strength and coming full circle, Alexis introduces herself to the young Natasha, “I’m Alexis Davis, a fighter, an advocate, and an idealist … and I will take care of everything from her on out.”  In that moment, Alexis embraced herself, and forgave herself, so she could move on with her life.

Alexis then flashes back to earlier that night, as the Davis girls gather for a faux graduation ceremony so Alexis could see Molly in her cap and gown and they hug. Back in her session, Kevin remarks that Alexis has repeatedly defined herself as a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate, and reminds her she has three daughters who have those qualities, and that all she needs to be is Alexis Davis.

Then, we get a heart-warming montage of Alexis though the years in honor of Nancy’s 25th anniversary with GH.

Courtesy/ABC

As the episode concludes, it is the next morning, and Alexis enters Pentonville and enters her jail cell. There she meets her fellow inmate, who is studying law books to prep for her upcoming parole hearing. Alexis introduces herself as “Alexis Davis” and as someone who can help her.  We then go back to her mother’s watch which now begins ticking at Alexis’ home.  The show fades to black.

Kudos to Daytime Emmy winner, Phideaux Xavier for his outstanding direction, head writers: Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor and script writer, Scott Sickles for the thoughtful episode, EP Frank Valentini and his production crew for putting it all together, and the one and only Nancy Lee Grahn for a performance that will be remembered as a classic.
