GENERAL HOSPITAL: Anna and Luke Say Goodbye As Finola Hughes and Tony Geary Share Final Scenes Together!

Courtesy/ABC-LanteQuotzTwitter
On Thursday’s episode of General Hospital, Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) rocked the house, once again, in an emotional performance as viewers of the ABC daytime drama series saw Anna is such great despair that she could not stay in Port Charles one more minute. Anna is planning on heading to Glasgow, Scotland to give her beloved late Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan), the send off he would have wanted, and that she wants to give him with his ashes in tow!
But before Anna leaves Port Charles, she gets a surprise visitor in none other than Luke Spencer (Tony Geary)! And thus set the stage for the final scenes between two General Hospital legendary performers that the audience has loved and care about for decades. As soap fans know, this is Tony Geary’s last weeks on GH before he makes his exit from the show for the final time. And since Finola Hughes is being written-off the canvas, while she directs her new film Bryd and the Bees, GH paid homage to the long-standing relationships of good friends, adventure partners, and at one time romantic interests, Anna and Luke.
We can’t believe there was a dry eye in the house as Anna and Luke discussed their relationship over the years while Anna shared her sadness over the loss of Duke with old pal Luke (who feels guilty in part for Duke’s death, while he was overtaken by his bad side).
But when Luke wished Anna well, and as he continually called Anna his nickname for the former commish, “Slim”, and as the camera went close-up into the eyes of Tony Geary and Finola Hughes, the audience could see the love and respect that these two actors have had for each other, as they knew this would be their final shared moments together on-screen.
What did you think of the performance of Finola Hughes on Thursday’s GH? The final scenes between Luke and Anna? Share your thoughts below!
These actors made the maddening silliness of those sci-fi spy adventures worth it. Ms. Hughes and Mr. Geary are class acts and top of their craft.
These two were awful when they were slapped together romantically three years ago.
Actually I didn’t think Luke And Anna were anywhere as boring as Duke and Anna! Maybe they weren’t meant to be but they saw more action in a few months than Duke and Anna saw in nearly 3 years.
I’ll miss Anna and Luke…
Finola Hughes has grace. Not very many actresses have that talent. She can portray the poignancy but she carries that quiet grace and class that adds at least 100% more to every performance. It’s nuance, style and talent to have the skill to portray that. I know that the writing usually is what carries any scene to the stratosphere but without actors like Finola Hughes and Tony Geary they would remain but words on a page. Kudos to GH for once again nailing it. Looking forward to seeing Billy Miller give one of his unexpected powerhouse deliveries like he did in his tenure at Y&R. I have to say I am loving GH a lot these last few weeks. The change in character of Nikolas. The slow repair of brotherly love between Morgan and Michael. The understated sadness and confusion of Nina Clay and Franco. There are other characters who live up to what we expect of them but it’s the actors who always toss in a special surprise even at times when the writing alone would be enough. Thank you GH.
Seems like the show always does better AFTER sweeps.
Oh my god, I cried so much. Finola Hughes and Tony Geary are wonderful actors.
Pure magic that is what describes these two together. I am so grateful to both Frank and Ron to have written and made part of yesterday’s GH Anna and Luke’s good-bye scenes. Finola and Tony were as always outstanding, they are and will always be BEST of the BEST. Their scenes were heart wrenching and thinking it may be the last time Anna and Luke are on screen together made them that much more emotional for me. Happy retirement Tony, you truly deserve it and know that we will surely miss you on GH. Finola, best of luck and success on your movie but please please please hurry back cause we already miss Anna!
She was exquisite! Hurry back, Finola!
such emotional scenes – you could even feel that it was their last scene together
It was magic. He is daytime royalty and she NEVER disappoints. I hope when she comes back she will acknowledge that after she left Scotland she headed to Paris to see her daughter. Its a bad loophole on this show. Recast Robin!
Kimberly M. Is busy out there directing… Doesn’t seem tooooo interested in returning
anytime soon, perhaps it would be best to recast Robin. But isn’t she still being held
under lock & key by Helena? Anna would have to search high and low in order to
find her. She’s probably on Cassadine island trying to resurrect that insufferable,
abomination Stavros…
No, Robin cannot be recast.
But they do need to finish Robin’s story and stop with these unfinished and clumsy returns and exits.
Watching Robin come and go is equivalent of finally agreeing to dance only to have the drummer perform a five minute drum solo.
Recast. Sorry Kim. Follow your dreams. Yeah, we had Fluke that drug on, We have Jakeson that is dragging on but then there was Robin’s story. They built this whole story on her rescue and return ONLY to put her right back into Helena’s arms! What a ruse we were all taken for!
If Kim were to return or TPTB choose to Recast her, it would need to be
long term. I would want Robin to fight for her EX -Patrick and really be
INVOLVED with raising Emma, she should also be head of research at
the hospital…that should start upon Anna’s return to PC.
I agree Fanny and thats the problem with Robin off canvas, there is too much story not being told! RECAST!
Amazing performances as usual for Finola and Anthony!!
Finola has been blowing her scenes out of the water for weeks! Her final scenes with Tony Geary were no different. Touching and heartfelt on both sides. Two legends doing their thing superbly!
Anna has been so broken lately, I hope she gets some much needed rest on her “trip” and returns as fierce and strong as ever ready to continue on with her relationship with hottie Kyle Sloane!
I think Sloane is a sleaze for taking advantage of a still grieving Anna, drunk or not.
Sloane is a creep……i say he took advantage of her but Anna still is a strong woman who should know better……this was too soon after Duke’s death…if he is dead that is……maybe Anna is going away to be with Duke who will be revived by SUPERRobin….lol
He drank to. I just wish Anna wouldnt have gone there so soon. Drunk or not, she knew better!
Speaking of Dicks, I think Anna wants out of town to get away from the comic book version of Dick Tracy.
The scene was beautifully acted–loved it.
PS. Did anyone notice that Anna was taking the book Outlander with her to Scotland? If you know what Outlander is about, you get the connection.
Finola & Tony’s nostalgic trip down memory lane was incredibly poignant…
The admiration, mutual respect, and genuine fondness they have for one
shined through.
Anna outshines Sloane on every level, he isn’t worthy of her… She was
GRIEVING and heavily into her cups… What’s his excuse??????
I’m not familiar with the book Harry, but it’s ALL over twitter that she had it and it’s been explained. LOL. Lovely twist. Now I’m interested in reading it. I feel like I’m the only 1 who hasn’t!!
@Harry: That’s the first thing I noticed, when Anna lovingly placed Dukes
photo inside the book… Clair time traveling back to 18th century Scotland
to fall in with Jamie…
Hi, Mr. X.
Duke and Anna had not ‘been’ together, or had not been a couple for a long time. I am still puzzled at that last minute, “oh, let’s get away somewhere together…I love you, I love you…”…all that drivel. I did not buy it then, nor do I buy it now. She was so very adamant in forgiving Duke. He chose Sonny over her. Then, suddenly, out of the blue, togetherness forever happens? Who cares if Duke had called off the hit? THAT is definitely not the point!!!!!
Really? What woman in her right mind leaves her only grandchild behind to run off with a disreputable, back-stabbing ex-lover? Not only that, but, there is always the chance her daughter may come back to PC. Would she want to miss that?
I do not know what kind of person Anna is, truly……but, she does not strike me as a flighty, que-sera-sera-kind-of-woman. So, what gives?
Yes, Anna lost someone whose great love surpassed all others….I’ve said this before, and I get it!….we all get it, right? But, to bombard Sloane for his behavior is not fair. I am not that into him, but he acted in the moment….but, so did she.
Also, I do not believe Sloane took advantage of her. One could turn the tables and say she used him to lift the heaviness in her heart. Sloane just lost his job, and he is in love with her……so they turned to each other to alleviate their malheur. Not much was shown….not acting like animals…..done with due respect….two people needing comfort, coming together. However, Sloane’s heart is also involved….he acted out of love. Did Anna?
I also keep in mind that, as Alexis, she is not a babe in the woods…..and I doubt Anna would want to be considered as ‘having been had’….She’s a big girl!
Harry…More coincidence reminding me of Anna, Outlander, and a possible “real” mission for her in Scotland besides sentimentality. I live in a community with many expat-Brits, Irish and Scots, the two latter being very superstitious. Had a customer in the bookstore today who is going to be visiting Scotland again this summer. She always journeys to the many standing stones and does rituals…spits onto her finger and presses it onto a stone, and pricks a finger and puts a little of her blood on a stone as well. I teasingly said if I didn’t see her again…well you know.
Jim,
I understand what you’re saying about how fast it is for Anna & Sloane to have sex since Duke’s body isn’t dead but I’m not sure Sloane “took advantage” of Anna-I think Sloane’s in love with Anna & he was just being human. He is pushy as HELL, I agree. I also liked the previous Sloane much better, Robb Derringer, however, Grayson really pulled back during Anna’s grieving scenes these last few wks. I do credit him for that.
I think Anna “gave in” because she’s not just mourning Duke, but she’s ALSO in pain over intentionally murdering a man in cold blood. I cheered-Carlos had it coming, but Anna’s not that person at the end of the day & she’ll be forever haunted by it-she needed relief, comfort! It was a very human thing to do. I actually enjoyed the scenes. It’s not lost on me that her & Sloane have had more scenes & conversations in 2 wks than GH gave her & Duke during his entire run this time!! Ian’s too good of an actor to have wasted him.
Harry…I noticed the Outlander book, too. Sold enough in the bookstore. Wonder if Anna will be fanaticizing about finding the touching stone to go back in time for Duke? Plus, have been watching the series on ShowTime. Talk about “sex and violence” on tv. Wow. However the love scenes can be really lovely, especially the wedding night.
Can’t wait for her to return. She, Jane Elliot and Maura West are what keep me tuning in.
ooh… nice !
Anna
Traci
“Denise”
i’d throw in Nikolas…
Is that really Luke……is Laura and Holly back to expose him as Fluke……have we been duped by Fluke still pretending to be Luke???……should i stay on my meds……lol
Heather should also be around for Luke or Fluke’s exit story…let them run away together…lol
Suspicious minds think alike…Is he, isn’t he.. I am a little skeptical
he’s being toooooo nice…
Finola Hughes is a class act, a legendary performer who never ever disappoints in portraying the most kickass character in daytime – Anna Devane. Loved her scenes with Tony.
It is rare to see realism on a soap..
When to people, not characters, show their true feeling for the other it is very notable..
Tony and Finola gave us themselves, not their characters..
And, I felt every second of their good bye, it was heart aching and real..
We have more of those ”’real”’ moments coming..
Well said Su000….Many more WONDERFUL moments to come!!!
Get out UR Kleenex.
it was a nice moment between Finola and Tony. I know Tony has received many awards, but I have to give the top accolades to Finola, especially the during shooting of Duke and the aftermath. I think she’s head and shoulders above everyone else. Hope she has a good summer working on her movie. And good luck with Jonathan Rhyes Meyers (sp?) who is in the film. I really like him, but he can be a handful from what I’ve heard. But then Finola’s alter ego, Anna, has handled her fair share over the years.
Their performance was Emmy material. There are no words to express what a great actor Tony Geary is. He will be missed . No one could measure up to him.
Am i the only one who thinks that sadly, Luke is not 100% Luke and will leave as cray-cray Luke?
@Ghlover….While I’m still torn as to the actual state of Luke’s mind, I do detect a note of weariness and resignation on the part of AG since his return. He seems to be lacking the energy and focus he had whilst portraying Fluke…..if it truly is physical/emotional exhaustion on the part of the actor, then perhaps he has picked the proper time to say his final goodbye to GH, as this obvious malaise is making for one mighty maudlin and melancholy swansong.
Lol, Shay…..I would leave the melancholia suffering to Hamlet. Luke does not strike me as the melancholy type….he would not even entertain the institution of marriage or having a party to celebrate that possible ‘blissful’ event, if he were. I see no self-pity in Luke….he is too full of himself.
But, you are right…this is the proper time and right venue for Anthony to take.
I detect resignation also, but it may just be the anticipation to get the hell out of dodge.
He is obviously wanting to go, and he is actually acting with great restraint ……the mark of a well-seasoned, dignified actor. I must admit, Mr. Geary has what it takes….class.
@Shay: TG is moving in slow motion of late, purposely mindful of his very
sensitive & still recovering back. His lack of energy & overly pale complexion
speaks volumes… Especially since “Luke” has always been such a physical
larger than life character, he seems to have become a “shadow” of his former
self…
Shay–I feel that Luke has become a card carrying member of the Frances Farmer Club. That is, I fear he’s had a lobotomy.
Let us hope that Laura sparks a sense of his old spirit!
Well, that had been my hope, Harry, but after yesterday’s episode, I had a similar feeling about Laura! She had that same vacant-eyed, hollowed-out look, although I’m thinking it may have been due to fear…..could Lucky be in danger, and that is what will precipitate Luke’s last mission with his “Angel?”
@Fanny…..Well, yes, I am keeping that in mind….perhaps Mr. Geary is saving up his energy for that last blast of an adventure which will lead to his grand finale!!!!!!
Most of the actors on General Hospital are great actors….
Okay……?
Glad that you agree with me…huh?
Just the beginning of tears for all of us. Omg…Luke and Anna…you could feel the real feelings…..love them
i loved this episode with these two so much, i going to cherish is forever, i even boutght the episode on iTunes to have for keepsake. It made me remember the good old days, when GH was about not just love between couples, but great friends who helped each other through rough times and adventures. I was so glad this scene took place especially since Finola would be off screen for Anthony Geary’s last shows. I can’t wait for more great scenes like this, between Tony and his many special pairings he had on the show. Genie Francis, Emma Samms, Kristina Wagner, Lynn Herring, and Nancy Lee Grahan, not all romantic, but all fun and showed how much chemistry Anthony Geary could have with anyone….
I adore both Finola Hughes and Tony Geary. Tony will really be missed but I can kind of see why it might be time to wrap things up when it comes to Luke. I hope he’ll come back some time for something big! It broke my heart watching those poignant scenes between Anna and Luke and thinking that this could be the last time these two super talents work together. I’m so glad they had the chance to say good bye!
@Harry…
Yes, Harry……Hi!!
I did notice the book, OULANDER. Perhaps Anna will transform into Claire Beauchamp Randall?
I also noticed how Anna made a point of turning the book’s face toward the camera for a clearer view. I did think that there might be some significance in that gesture. Time travel?
Is there some spoofy storyline in the making?
One would hope so, Cee Cee.
I am a sucker for time travel stories.
I don’t know if they’d be capable of pulling it off successfully.
Harry, your double entendre ‘Dick’, was not lost on me. Just sayin’…..LOL
Finola Hughes and Tony Geary are two of the best daytime fans have ever had the pleasure to watch. How appropriate was it that he’s leaving but the scene ended up as a good bye as Anna leaves town for the summer? I love them both and only wish they would have had more scenes together. I also hope this doesn’t mean Jane Elliott never sees the time of day again. She’s a real gem, too!
Real actors can suck you into any scene regardless of the material and make you feel something. If you don’t feel anything, they’re probably phoning it in.
I’ve never felt that way about any scene with Finola and Tony in it. That scene was very touching. These actors are true treasures.
@Rose…..
Hi, Rose….I am very familiar with that ritual, as my Gran is Scottish.
I am well versed in all the superstitions, especially still existing In the south-western district of Scotland.
However, my Gran says , that such rituals are only practiced by those who engage in witchcraft…..and she blessed herself (sign of the cross, in case you are not of the Roman Catholic faith) when she mouthed the word…LOL.
Is Anna supposed to be from Scotland as Duke? I am not sure.
Imagine if the writers would do a soapy facsimile of THE OUTLANDER? When Anna comes back, they could really explore and exploit this adventure with none other as herself as the heroine, yes?
Iam 70 years old. my mother in law and I watched this show for over 40 years. I think Anna and Luke hit it right on the nail with there acting. Being a widow Anna brought home all the raw emotions of loss of a LOVE ONE. I WILL MISS THEM BOTH, Thank you for all the years of fine entertaining.
Anna and Robert Scorpio were the BEST together

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
