It was quite a week for General Hospital’s nurse Felix Dubois (Marc Anthony Samuel)! First, he had to get himself resigned to the idea, and psyched up to have a three-way with Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) and Brad Cooper (Parry Shen).  How did that all come about?  Felix at one point dated Brad, while Brad ended up hooking up with Lucas.  Then after that, Lucas dumped Brad after finding out his part in Cousin Lulu’s (Emme Rylan) embryo debacle/switch!  Next, as Felix and Lucas spent more time together, they enjoyed each others company.  Felix and Brad got terse with each other over Lucas, and then Lucas suggested a threesome as a solution!  And now it was all set to be a re-imagined, shall we say, “Three’s Company!”

But the three-way never happened, thanks in part to Magic Milo (Drew Cheetwood) who happened upon good friend Felix, as he was about to leave the hospital and meet up with Brad and Lucas for their scheduled ménage a trois!  Milo told Felix that he desperately wanted to admit his feelings for someone, but could not muster up the courage.  Felix thought Milo was referring to him when it was actually Nurse Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Eddy) that Milo had the “hots” for.  An emotional Felix then realized he wants to wait for the right man to come along that wants to be with him, and only him.  So Felix bows out of the proposed three-way with Lucas and Brad.  It seemed that Felix knew that Lucas and Brad wanted to be with each other all along.

Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix) delivered a nuanced and touching performance on this Friday’s episode of the ABC soap opera, and On-Air On-Soaps caught up with him at the recent GHFCW 2014 to ask him about: Felix’s moral standards, what he thinks Felix truly feels for Lucas and Brad, where he sees the story going from here, and the return of Felix’s bff Sabrina (Teresa Castillo), and how several fans have not been kind to the duo.  Here’s what Marc had to say!

Many in the audience want Felix to loosen up.  Is that tough for you having to play him when he has such strong moral values?  Do you feel as an actor in some way trapped by the character, where you can’t really break away from the “good guy” nature of the character?

MARC:  I don’t feel trapped, and what I do is take the parts of my own personality that can empathize with what Felix is going through, and I kind of dial him up a bit.  And at some point in life, you feel different ways about different things.  I remember when I was a little bit more reticent in my own personality, and wanting to find something special, and not doing what all of my other friends were doing.  So, I believe I have something in common with Felix in that way.  Never trapped.  It’s always fun to put together these composites and make a human being.

So, does Felix truly like and have feelings for Lucas (Ryan Carnes)?

MARC:  I think he does like Lucas a lot.   I think he is discovering that his feelings took him by surprise.  Felix wants to find that special someone, and when he found that he thought he had that kind of Kismet with Lucas … stuff started flowing.

In working with Ryan Carnes, what were you most surprised to find about him?

MARC:  Ryan is such a vibrant personality, but he has a side to him that is just so mellow – how shall I put it – he takes people in, and studies them for a bit, before he says anything.  I did not expect him to have that degree of being so extremely wise, like an old soul, which I love about him.  Ryan and I get along really well, and I think that’s one of the reasons.  He is not quick to just blurt out opinions. Ryan thinks about what he says.

Teresa Castillo (Sabrina) recently returned to tape all-new episodes of GH since the birth of her real-life daughter, Victoria.  I know you two are buds.  How was it to get to work with her again?

MARC:  It was so good to see Teresa Castillo again.   I got to work with her when she first returned to GH, but of course, I stayed in touch with her while she was on maternity leave.

Sabrina and Felix often time gets some hardcore fan bashing from GH fans.  How do you feel about the negative heat given to the characters?

MARC: Whenever you are in a public forum, you are going to get the gamut of opinions and people are going to be saying, “We want to see more of them!” Or, “We DON’T want to see anymore of them!”  All you can do is do your job, and we happily do it.

Will Felix be helping Sabrina reintegrate into Port Charles upon her return?

MARC:  Oh, of course! You have your people in your life, period.  You want them to succeed as they want you to succeed, also.  I am sure Felix and Sabrina will again, have each others back.

On General Hospital, The Golden Girls has been in many a line of dialogue of late as the go-to show for gay guys to watch together, as well as Knots Landing!  What do you think of that analogy?

MARC:  Well, I know that the writers seem to have an affinity for The Golden Girls.  (Laughs)  And all we can do is celebrate it. (Laughs)  And honestly, The Golden Girls is a fun show.  Who doesn’t love the face of Bea Arthur when someone says something to elicit that response from her?  You just go with where the writing takes you.

Did you originally think that you and Parry Shen (Brad) would end up being the romantic couple on the show as Brad and Felix?  It looks now that Brad and Lucas are the item … with Felix odd man out!

MARC:  It’s funny, I did!  I thought he was going to be the love interest.  Now what I have learned from spending more time on this show is … you can’t take any of it for granted.  You don’t know which way anything is going to go.  But when you are doing what’s on the page, you just gotta go for it and make it happen.  So I have no idea where ultimately everything is going to go… and that’s the truth!
