NBC Chairman, Paul Teledgy Says: “Days of our Lives Is Going To Carry On”

Photo: JPI

Very exciting and hopeful news Days of our Lives fans, and those of the soap genre, coming out of the NBC Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, California Saturday morning.

During the lead-off executive session, NBC Chairman Paul Teledgy opened up about the status of Days of our Lives with the network since no official announcement had been made on their end as to the renewal pick-up of the beloved daytime drama.

However, Teledgy revealed:  “We are in a middle of finding out very soon,” and then added, “Of course Days of Our Lives is going to carry on. We love it. Millions of Americans watch it every week. I know that will be good news for the fans.”

Teledgy also told Deadline after the executive session that negotiations are still ongoing and the series will stay on NBC, and will not be moving onto the upcoming Peacock streaming service said to bow very soon.

The chairman’s comments come nearly two months following DAYS executive producer, Ken Corday’s comments to the cast that the show had been renewed for its upcoming season.  That came on the heels that for cost-cutting measures, during the dark months, that the cast had been let- \out of their contracts.

But as usual at this time of year, NBC, Sony (the soap’s distributor) and Corday Productions are engaged it the renewal window which also happens at fall at the beginning of the new year.

Now, it looks like there is no doubt there is more Salem to come! Buckle-up for more intriguing stories within the series innovative time jump in the coming months … and that the four networks soaps are all here to stay for now.

Sounds promising. And a bit of waffling at the same time. It’s better for the show to go on their streaming platform, otherwise the final year is already in the works. There won’t be another renewal after this one. Those of us who’ve lived through years of cancellations know what is coming. I made it appointment Tv to watch final episodes. Love Of Life, Search For Tomorrow, The Edge Of Night(I loved Raven), Ryans Hope, Loving and on and on. Sad.

The week of Christmas the show was at 1,766,000 viewers. That’s why the show won’t have the streaming option now. The time jump was Days Hail Mary. It hasn’t paid off in viewing numbers. If anything it drove viewers away. Sad.

Yes, I’ve watched all those same shows and more over the years. So sad to see them just fade away isn’t it? I am still watching Days, though I don’t like it anymore, and unfortunately have no hopes for a future after this year, nor do I care.I have never felt that way before, but they have literally torn it apart, but will never put it back together, like Humpty Dumpty.

@VioletLemm2 As super fans, addicted to soaps, and well up in our years, we’ve seen way too many come and go. It’s a disappointment that sticks with you forever. The Soaps model of story telling enabled the networks Primetime to flourish and gave Hollywood multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Oscar stars. Yet because of P&G’s iron clad grip they were allowed to fade into nothing.

I hadn’t watched Days for several years and was thinking of starting again until I heard of the time jump. It sounds really confusing, so I decided not to bother. It just sounds like a desperate move to me.

@Davy The British soap HollyOaks on HuLu just aired a full years time jump episode where a teen character, nasty Juliette, has left her straight relationship for a lesbian character, and among other things there’s a funeral. The huge difference is you’re left having to watch the entire year to see how it all falls into place. That’s clever.

DAYS’ time jump is great and not confusing at all unless you are or were a Special Education student.

davy you are missing out it has been great tune in

Yay! Days is so good. I wish more people watched. Certainly better than the “Number 1 soap”.

Oh come on.. rest on Paul Telfer so me

“dance”

here come’s my lady new lady “Ms. Sarah Horton” she’s on Xander’ ON how do you get by that

DAYS , carries on;

“I Move”

I am soooo into Days, these days, Ha!! I am loving every minute of every episode…
I’m in a hurry–so —here it goes!!—-writers; I beg you to heed me.
It’s time for some poetic justice —-that is, get Gabi.
The setting should be a chapel where Gabi walks down the aisle, on her wedding day, to join Eli, at the foot of the altar.
Just when the priest is about to pronounce them man and wife, the suspenseful “hush” is broken by a very calm Lani approaching the almost-newlyweds, deliberately taking her time to reach them ( sweet irony would be if Lani were dressed in a wedding gown). In her hand she holds the small, yet “heavy” object which has kept Lani prisoner for a year. Julie’s life is in that little object. Voila’.
Step up Lani.
How did Lani manage to get the “object”? —maybe JJ helped. I can’t think of everything.

Hi Celia
Hope you are well. I answered this comment weeks ago, but they hardly post any of my comments anymore, so I’ve kind of given up. Anyway, I agreed with all your ideas about Gabi, and I bet it will happen just like that, plus poor Julie’s rage and disappointment with Gabi.

Hi, Violet,
I’m well, thank you—-sorry you’re having trouble with the sites again—-
I have only recently started commenting again, myself……not enough hours in the day—LOL….I go through spurts.
I’m glad you like Julie, Violet—if truth be known, I’ve never liked her. Julie is another one of those characters who’s too good to be true. My grandmother said that Julie has calmed down over the years—-not her favorite character either. Holier-than-thou.
As far as Gabi, she’s such a puzzle. There was a time when I did like her—-yet, she was always up to no good, albeit Nick deserved what he got. As “bad” as Gabi is, Nick’s death should not have been lain at her feet. Sending her to prison was not fair, but it is now!! She should rot in jail for her criminal behavior.
Stay well, my friend.

Glad it’s not going anywhere for the time being…if so, maybe the network or Sony can put some money forth to help with production–it’s horrible along with SOME of these time jump arcs. The head writer needs to be fired or at least told to watch GH to get an idea on how to write descent stories for it’s veteran actors and their fans. This Gina/Stefano is a joke on so many levels to include an insult to fan bases that have invested years into their characters/stories.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

No word yet on when Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story will debut on Netflix, but it is assumed later this year.
