Which ABC Primetime Soap Pilots Look Like They Will Make It Into The Fall Line-up?

So while daytime soaps have been shown the front door, looks like the nighttime version of the genre is having somewhat of a re-birth! With Revenge already a bona fide hit, and TNT’s Dallas remake on the way this summer, Deadline.com got the skinny on the previously announced ABC soap pilots, and which ones might make it into the fall line-up.

Deadline.com revealed, “Of the slew of soap pilots ordered by ABC,  Nashville and Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids  are hot, and there’s buzz that straight-to-series Mistresses might be headed for fall. Americana and the period Gilded Lilys  also are solid, though Americana doesn’t appear as slam-dunk as it once did; Penoza has been getting mostly good feedback with some mixed reaction too, while buzz on Scruples has been mixed!”

For daytime fans, the Nashville project has four-time Daytime Emmy winner, and General Hospital favorite, Jonathan Jackson (Ex-Lucky) attached to it, while Devious Maids has a role for All My Children’s legendary Susan Lucci attached to it!

Americana, which seems to us like it’s using the premise of B&B and tweaking it for the primetime audience has Twilight’s Ashley Greene and Lost’s Emile de Ravin, plus Without a Trace star, Anthony LaPaglia and Brothers & Sisters, Ken Olin signed on to it!  Gilded Lily’s offers Torchwood’s John Barrowman and Blythe Danner as some of its headliners.

So which show sounds intriguing? Which would you like to see head to primetime, which can often lead to some more of your daytime favorites landing roles?  Let us know!

None of them! I will only watch General Hospital on ABC. They should make OLTL a prime time soap! Then maybe I watch that channel. Love and miss OLTL!

After the imbecilic miscalculation of canceling OLTL, I don’t care either.

Couldn’t agree more! I miss OLTL more every day. Huge mistake to cancel that show.

I don’t need this crap at night! There’s enough to watch! I need OLTL during the day when I’m relaxing & need some fantasy! Stupid ABC!

Mary – hahaha! 😀 I agree! It’s nice they have soap stars on those shows, but I only watch GH and dancing with the stars and Castle… and you know the only reason I watch Castle is because of OLTL alumni on that

but if they had OLTL as a primetime show, I’d be there for each episode… I don’t know that I could take it a week in between shows tho! te he he

what a big mistake for cancelling one life to live. abc and brian frons should be ashamed of themselves for putting the pathetic revolution. now that the revolution is cancelled as of july. why not bring one life to live back. i know abc will not bring one life to live back. oprah winfrey did say no to soaps on her own network. oprah could have saved all my children and one life to live. her network is going down in the ratings futher now. thats good get rid of own network. listen nbc pick up one life to live. i wouls be so happy. susan lucci i miss her so much as erica kane. lets hope general hospital gets better ratings. the show is really getting good now. keep robin mattson, kristina wagner and sign them a contract.

And where to do you want NBC to put OLTL? You want them to cancel Days to put OLTL? Because that’s pretty much the only slot OLTL could land on NBC. All the other slots either belongs to Today or the affiliates. Affliates will never give back an hour to the network. And Today is NBC’s highest-rated show so you can forget about taking off an hour of Today to put OLTL.

Besides the actors have moved on and probably wouldn’t accept to return to OLTL even if there was an opportunity.

Now that Matt Lauer is itching for Days timeslot for his talkshow, who knows how long it will last?

Seriously, not one of them and I dont care who is in these shows the boycott for me continues,I hope abc/disney sinks so low that disney feels the need to abandon ship,If the rat channel never canceled all my children and one life to live and play head games with general hospital (which they still are) It might be another story and I would be watching a few of these prime time soaps (The soaps abc/disney says no one is watching anymore)So as far as gcb, americana, nashville, devious maids,ETC,ETC,ETC,abc has me for general hospital hope the rest of these shows fail miserably , they wont last no 50 years thats for sure, you can put your money in the bank on that one.Thank god Dallas is on tnt, because that show I will be watching ,See ,there are soaps on other networks that we can watch other then abc/disney,the mouse network that killed one life to live and all my children and still playing games with general hospital.

We are rooting for Gilded Lilys. The British show Downton Abbey is amazing and a huge succes. So why should the US not have their own period drama? And with the BBC just cancelling Upstairs/Downstairs because of their money problems, there definitely aren’t enough period pieces around.

OLTL or nothing!

OLTL or none!

I will NOT watch any of these ABC primetime soaps. The network is trying to appease the soap fans by putting former daytime soap stars on these new primetime shows. It’s a feeble attempt by ABC/Disney to keep all eyeballs on their channel. Like putting these actors in primetime will get us to stop boycotting the network. NOT! I will continue to watch only GH which is truly getting exciting right now. I can’t wait for the next episode. That’s how good it’s getting. For me, it has surpassed Y & R in content, pace and overall entertainment factor. It’s anything but boring.

I just left tv media insights and they are saying that abc/disney has purchased a hispanic news channel that will be in english 24/7, What the hell is that all about? THey get rid of 2 soaps that have been on for over 40 years stabbing the soap fans in the back and they get together with univision and once again insult this fan,Seems they have the money to buy a trashy news network but refuse to save soap net, I dont get it. What the hell has happened to mickey mouse? We have enough kids and news channels.

NAshville with Jonathon Jackson sounds GREAT!

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Dina was the on-screen mother to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

As for Adams, she joined Y&R in 1982, but left the soap three years later her contract expired. She returned to Genoa City for stints in 1991, 1996 and 2008 before being asked by then Y&R head writer-producer Sally Sussman to return in 2017, which would begin the top-rated daytime drama telling the story of Alzheimer’s disease. Through Dina, the show shed light on a person going through the perils of the illness, and how the family copes and tries to come to terms with its fate.

In fact, Marla took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2021 for her work in the storyline, She had previously been nominated in 2018.

Speaking with Michael Fairman TV, Marla shared on her final scenes on Y&R when Dina passed away and was reunited with John Abbott, “It was heart-wrenching for me.  In the story, Dina died when she went outside and to the front door of the Abbott home.  They did not tell me before-hand, and that’s why it was so wonderful.  I hope they came in for a closeup of that because I had no makeup on, it was beautiful, and then, Dina said, “Oh, John.”  I’ve done everything from movies, to daytime, to nighttime, to Broadway, but that was the iconic moment for me, to do this gig with wonderful, wonderful actors and friends, and to do this particular storyline.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant. She also fondly remembered being the Miss Diamond Jubilee Queen during the 1954 celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ocean City’s founding.  A student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Adams appeared on Broadway in the 1958 production of The Visit at the Morosco Theatre with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and starred as June in the 1961 feature film, Splendor in the Grass

Over the span of her decades long career, Adams starred in more than 40 productions including television’s: The Golden Girls, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, The New Dick Van Dyke ShowHarry OAdam-12Starsky and HutchMarcus Welby, M.D.Barnaby Jones, and the feature film, Beneath the Leaves.

In a statement, Y&R’s current head writer and executive producer, Josh Griffith expressed, “On behalf of the entire company of The Young and the Restless, we send our deepest sympathies to Marla’s family. Days Of Our Lives

Arianne Zucker Reveals Her Last Days of our Lives Airdate

Arianne Zucker, who is no longer on contract with Days of our Lives, and involved in a lawsuit against the show, took to her You Tube channel and in her latest episode, and offered up what she believes is her final airdate as Nicole Walker DiMera.

The actress expressed: “I was really appreciative of the amount of support that I have had since leaving Days of our Lives.” She then added,  “My last airdate, I think, it’s July 29th and we’ll see how things go after that.”

Zucker went on to say how she has continued to receive overwhelming support since suing her former employer, Corday Productions, with the allegations that former Co-EP Albert Alarr sexually harassed her and other females at the show, and that the production company entity did not respond sufficiently and adequately.

Photo: JPI

After lodging her complaints, Zucker said her agents received two notices that Corday Productions were reducing her pay before her character was ultimately written off.  Zucker’s contract expired in January and since DAYS tapes over six months ahead it brings her final airdate, which as of now, to the end of July. Zucker is suing for harassment, discrimination, retaliation, negligent hiring and supervision, and wrongful termination among other claims.

Previously, Corday Productions issued this statement on Zucker’s claims: “The allegations in Ms. Zucker’s lawsuit are without merit. Corday Productions, offered to renew Ms. Zucker’s contract including offering her a pay increase. Rejecting Ms. Zucker’s counteroffer does not constitute retaliation. Complaints about Mr. Alarr’s on-set behavior were promptly investigated. Corday Productions fully cooperated with the impartial investigation and subsequently terminated Mr. Alarr.”

On her You Tube channel, Arianne went on to thank everyone who came out to the east coast fan event last weekend that featured several DAYS stars. She expressed, “My whole goal is to really help people stand up for themselves.” Arianne also shared she thinks it’s important for people who have gone through trauma to help each other through it.

Photo: JPI

On DAYS, Nicole is still in the dark that Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) is raising her child, Jude, with Eric (Greg Vaughan), and Eric also doesn’t know that he is raising his biological son. Will Eric and Nicole reunite and will Nicole find out what Sloan, Melinda and Leo (Greg Rikaart) have been hiding for months, before she exits the show? Stay tuned. There has been on official confirmation from DAYS that July 29th is Zucker’s final airdate.

You can check out Ari’s latest episode from her You Tube Channel below.
