Y&R’s Zach Tinker Cast as Sonny Kiriakis in ‘Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem’ Limited-Series on Peacock

More casting and characters was announced on Monday for the upcoming limited-series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.  The series will run on NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock.

The Young and the Restless Fenmore Baldwin, Zach Tinker, has replaced Freddie Smith for the series in the role of Sonny Kiriakis.

He will join Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and the return of Greg Rikaart as Leo Stark.

The casting change to Tinker came a week after the Daytime Emmy-winning Smith revealed that if asked, he wouldn’t return to DAYS as Sonny.

Beyond Salem is set to be a five-part episode streaming event.

So, what do you think of Zach replacing Freddie as Sonny for the upcoming limited series? Comment below.

No disrespect to talented, handsome Freddie Smith, but I’m liking this. I liked Zach as Fen in his brief run on YR. So, depending on his chemistry with Chandler, this could be another good pairing. And it’ll be a hoot to see Greg Rikaart reprise his role as the nasty but sexy Leo. Though, and it’s a BIG though, I STILL don’t understand why Will & Sonny were written out on DOOL. It’s one of those mysteries we’ll probably never have the honest answer to.

The reason is right here in this recast. To get you used to another Sonny. Someone Ron Carlivati feels more “comfortable” writing for; to put it nicely. Now they’ll return again this upcoming season. Watch.

Great to see Zach back on daytime!
Seems like a busy roster of characters for just a 5 run episode series! But maybe it means he can transition over to the regular series like Shawn and Belle?
I can really see him and Justin as father and son!

Ideally/ hopefully he can come back to Y n r as Fenn, especially now that Kyles leaving there will be a young lead void to fill! I can see Sally try to dig her claws into him especially since shes friends with his mom ,Lauren. Time to bring back the Baldwin living room! I d also like to see either Lola or Anna return as a love intrest! There was alot of potential there before Griffith the hack cut all that.

I’m excited that Days is opting to continue story for Will and Sonny, and I’m ecstatic that the show recast Sonny. Freddie Smith will always be remembered as Sonny, but he’s living in Florida with his new wife and moving in a new direction with his career. Maybe, he’ll return one day, but I welcome Zach Tinker and am super excited for the return of Will and Sonny.
Luckily, Chandler Massey is open and receptive to return for this particular gig. Time will tell… if this supercouple makes it back to Days, itself. Thanks to Days for recasting the role, because, I believe there is always more story to unfold for this iconic and historical couple. Long live Will and Sonny. #dayslgbtq+

Y&R doesn’t air in Hell, so I’m not familiar with this actor or his work. He certainly looks the part, so I’ll give him a shot. The Will recast was so horrible that I didn’t mind all that much when Ben killed him! Fortunately, they corrected that situation by bringing the real Will back. Not sure what the deal is with Freddie Smith, who now seems to be talking like James Scott in the “no way, not now, not ever, when Hell freezes over” when it comes to a return to Days. It’s a damned shame that this regime wrote Will & Sonny off the way they did, and now when we finally get a return – as limited as it is – it’s not going to be the real Sonny.

As for Leo….. if they can find a purpose for him that doesn’t involve another stupid triangle, sure, why not.

I don’t think his decision is about Days; Freddie Smith and his wife moved to Florida. She’s all excited about her new job as a real estate agent and looks like he might want to become one, too. Or may get into buying an selling; flipping houses. They want to start a family and he said he wants to prepare for his future and be closer to his and her family who are in Florida…that they’d always been planning the move there.

Not a good time to relocate to Florida. There’s an idiot governor trying to kill off the entire state. Also, due to climate change…. probably not the best state to go into the real estate business. There’s a term in the housing industry called “underwater” if you can’t keep up with mortgage payments, but in Florida, it’s more literal than that. The whole state will actually be underwater before too long.

I agree, Satan. My heart goes out to those citizens. It’s really scary when lies replace truth, not to mention common sense. I don’t mind nutty plots and actions on soap operas but not in real life.

WHOA! What’s up with Freddie Smith?

Freddie had hoped to do one more year with Days before moving, but had always planned to move to Florida. Then he and Chandler were fired, and the Pandemic hit. So he and Alyssa moved up their plans to relocate to Florida to be closer to both Families, they got married, and now want to start a Family. His wife recently got a Realtors License in Florida, and they both continue to produce weekly Podcasts from their home studio. In other words, he and Alyssa are building a new life in Florida and Freddie has chosen a career path that will keep him close to home.

Patrick Muldoon and Jennifer Taylor Cast as Mike Manning’s Conservative Parents on ‘The Bay’

The ever-expanding cast of the streaming soap opera, The Bay, has announced two new additions for its upcoming 9th season, including Days of our Lives favorite Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin Reed). TV fans also know Patrick Muldoon from his role as Richard Hart on Melrose Place.

In story, The Bay will bring Caleb McKinnon’s parents into the mix. Caleb is played by Daytime Emmy-winner and Outstanding Supporting Actor nominee this year, Mike Manning.

According to Deadline, Muldoon, along with Jennifer Taylor (Two and a Half Men), will play Caleb’s ultra-conservative parents. When Caleb married Daniel Garrett (Eric Nelsen), they all but abandoned him.  The season looks to bring a major story for Manning and hopefully and eventually love and acceptance from Caleb’s parents.

The casting news doesn’t stop there. Rhonda Ross has been tapped to play Colleen Givens, the biological mother of Pete Garrett’s (Kristos Andrews) wife Vivian (Karrueche Tran) in the new season.

Coleen is brought into the mix when Pete searches for Colleen after Vivian becomes ill. In the backstory, Colleen is a jazz singer who gave Vivian up for adoption at birth. Now she may be Vivian’s only hope to stay alive.

The series is up for 5 Daytime Emmy nomination at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7th including: Outstanding Drama Series, Writing,  Directing, A Martinez (Nard0) for Supporting Actor and the aforementioned Manning.
