I’ll be curious to see how they write the need for another psych doc, when honestly Collins should be more than enough for the show. Why not use HIM?

CeeCee
CeeCee

Right, Kevin. LOL. I guess our good doctor Collins is so overwhelmed by all the ‘disturbed’ cuckoos running amok in PC; he needs the extra help?

KansasGuest
KansasGuest

Because, frankly, Kevin Collins’ presence does not bring in new viewers in a younger demographic. We all know the most coveted demo is 18-49. Only longtime, aging viewers appreciate & want the veteran characters because they were around 2 decades ago when they were featured more prominently. You won’t find 20-30 somethings lamenting the absence of Lucy Coe or Monica Quartermaine because they haven’t been crucial to any GH plotline in decades. If an aging audience is the only one that watches any soap, it will be cancelled eventually. Soaps HAVE to show that new, young viewers are being added to justify their continued existence. That’s just show business – you have to prove that you appeal to a broad audience; not just an old one.

Harry
Harry

Kansas Guest, I do understand what you’re saying and yes, soaps are always courting the younger demographic by bringing in new characters played by younger actors. This is not new. However, what is new is the expedient rate in which the ‘in-with-the-new-out-with-the-old’ mentality is being utilized.
Back in grade school I was in the chorus (I was an alto) and we used to sing, “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other’s gold.” In pursuing the younger demographic, the ABC suits are showing disregard for their older and loyal demographic and they will end up losing them as well as perhaps not being able to garner that age demographic they so actively seek. Moreover, I do hate how young people are underestimated by their elders as far as their tastes and values are concerned. I think young people value the core families just as they value having limits and boundaries imposed upon them because it gives them a sense of safety and security. Moreover, when I was about ten I started watching AMC with my grandmother. You know whom I found to be the most interesting on AMC? Phoebe Tyler, Mona Kane and Charles Tyler—loved their love triangle. These characters were all well over sixty years old at the time. Phoebe really fascinated the hell out of me and she reminded me of my own grandmother who was a terrible snob and bragged of her own blue blood heritage.
So, I think it’s fine to introduce new characters as long as you pay fidelity to your core families and to the long time viewers who love them. It’s a delicate balancing act and one with which Agnes Nixon mastered.

Timmm
Timmm

Kansas. in theory, your right. If you dont freshen up the demos, your viewers eventually die. However, soaps are on life support! Your not going to get many 18-49 new viewers. Especially from this guy. He is a no name with no connections to PC. Thats why Kevin is important, he keeps long time viewers around. What they should do is bring in new, younger talent that has PC connections. For example, Scott has a daughter Serena. Bring her on if your looking for youth and younger demos. Y&R does this very well.

And what about Kevin Collins/Jon Lindstrom? Popular GH Vet and awesome actor.

Why have him on for that episode and have Varni promoting it? More bait & switch with vets? Do they really think we’re going to keep falling for that?

Nothing has changed with the new writers, the producer and the network are continuing the same pattern that tanked the ratings. More new characters with no real ties to GH history, popular vets discarded, sometimes dangled for an episode to try and reel people in. It’s insulting. Bad enough Jon Lindstrom is out, a young black psychiatrist joins the staff, why not Tommy Hardy? Oh right. core GH family member.

More new characters, Vets dangled and discarded, Franco/Nina/Kiki as a family unit and Sonny in a wheelchair. A real recipe for success GH. Good luck.

Harry
Harry

Right.
I am all for the hiring of this handsome young man but why must he come in at the expense of Dr Collins? I was enjoying his sessions with Anna. Finola Hughes and Jon Lindstrom are brilliant in those scenes and they have some kind of chemistry which I think deserves further exploration.
I cannot watch the Franco, Nina and Kiki scenes–they are quite dreadful. I cannot believe I ever thought Roger Howarth was this amazing and brilliant talent as I see no inkling of it anymore.

AJQ
AJQ

Agree about Howarth and it is so infuriating having to suffer through his nonsense and every attempt to try and make him palatable while a character like Kevin and Jon Lindstrom, and actor who is actually talented is discarded.

CeeCee
CeeCee

Awwwww, Harry!!!!!!! How could you not love that little-big trio? I really enjoy the banter; the strange and ridiculous goings-on in that apartment. Howarth IS amazing, Harry; as is Stafford. They can play anything….turn any role upside down and everywhichway.
Furthermore, which is a miracle of all miracles coming from me, Hayley Erin is coming into her own. Kiki is reborn. Just wait and see, Harry. LOL. Think positively. Would you rather watch Valerie and her ” woe is me for craving and itching for dufus-y Dante who’s in love with Lala-Lulu-head”?
Seriously, though. I think this couple creates a modicum of comic relief; not for everyone, but there are many Franco-Nina fans…..Just as there are many Sonny, Alexis, Sam, Jake etc. fans. We all have our favorites. Franco and Nina are dancing to the tune TPTB are playing. Their personae are evolving, albeit non gratae. I’m sorry you have to suffer through them, Harry. But, LOOK AT ME!!!!! I suffer through Sonny!! Lol. Bye.

Timmm
Timmm

Harry, Roger’s problem is Franco. The character sucks! I hated it when it was James Franco and I hate it now! Kill him off and let Roger go or bring him back as a Cassadine straight from HELLena’s lab!

soaps like newbies and have an endless supply of D-list actors and newcomers don’t get paid a lot.
newbie get paid next to nothing, they are in for the experience or just need a couple of bucks to pay bills…
Newbies are great for the soaps budgets ..

Erick
Erick

They already had to recast Kevin temporarily last year because Lindstrom was filming True Detective and directing something else… I’m thinking unavailable?

Torqumada
Torqumada

Yes, unavailable. Why can’t fans remember this? Sometimes it’s not an illuminati style conspiracy, the actor has moved on. Plain and simple.

As for the constant salvaging of new characters, some of us remember when Carlyle was a new character who took pages from vets. Just saying. At some point there is a moment of origin.

Separately, is GH spinning its wheels? Yeah. They need to get their storylines sorted, there’s no energy, no forward thrust. No burning reason to see what comes next. As much as I hate the mob storylines the new baddie is the only storyline that has a pennies worth of interest… Burgi is bringing it.

Matilda
Matilda

You have absolutely no information or evidence that the actor has “moved on” whatever that means. He has done some other roles, they are not permanent or full time.

And the point is irrelevant because John Lindstrom has repeatedly made it known on social media that he would like to work on GH.

Look around at all the vets who are not on. Have they all “moved on” or have they worked on other projects because they are actors and take work?

Bottom line, vets aren’t a priority for Frank and they are sorely missed. It isn’t an illuminati conspiracy, it is just a fact of what Frank has done to GH.

Erick
Erick

Matilda you raise a fair point regarding other roles not being permanent or full time…

However, to your statement that vets aren’t a priority for Frank – I’m recalling the Guza years where they were killed off (Quartermaines), shoved into retirement so they died of shock (Anna Lee), sent out of town without a mention (Bobbie), or still living in Port Charles without a mention after Port Charles ended (Lucy). At least we have them in town to complain about not seeing them. And he did bring Finola Hughes (Anna) and now Genie Francis (Laura) back full-time.

As I write this though I recall Ian Buchanan’s Duke getting killed off and it makes me sad all over again….

Harry
Harry

Matilda is correct–Jon Lindstrom has had some other projects in the past, but as she asserts, he has made it clear that he is available and eager to reprise his role as Dr Collins. I have no issue with a new character being introduced to the canvas when it does not come at the expense of a fan favorite who is in the midst of a psychologically compelling story. I saw some really exciting things transpire with the exchanges between Anna and Dr Collins and the actors really rose to the challenge. I was eager to see more of this exciting psychiatrist/patient relationship which may or may not involve projection and transference, and now I learn there will be no more. How does it make sense to nip that in the bud?
I repeat, Jon Lindstrom has NOT made it clear he has moved on–folks need to stop repeating falsehoods as if it were the gospel.

sexy new doc in town – I’m cool with that — it IS GH after all. Just too bad they didn’t keep Silas too; GH needs more sexy docs especially if it’s true Jason Thompson is leaving.
Look what Blair Underwood did for SATC? 😉

”is Dr. Maddox just what the doctor ordered on GH?”… heck no!
OK– if this newbie Dr. is working on Anna’s head mess as the November sweeps, that stinks..
c’mon, GH needs something somewhat soap earthshaking for the sweeps and that will not be Jason’s reveal via Spins computer, sigh..
GH is becoming another snooze party reminiscent of 2014 Y&R yawn fest..

I, for the first time had need to FF through the uninteresting looooong go nowhere conversations, they have the same tone of the loooong boring speeches at Casey’s grave.:(
WTHF!

OK– now for the November sweeps, I do not see anything worthy of mention.
Jason’s reveal is no longer a big WHOOOPIE!
So– what’s left . Kiki gets drunk and hmmmm umm hmm well she will do something interesting, yes- bwahaa yah sure lol ..

I’m not familiar with this actor; good looking guy. Does this mean we’e losing Jon Lindstdom again? Why??? I’ve always liked Lindstom and Kevin. Warm, good character with history. Pisses me ok they can’t come up with an interesting story for him and the other vets. Redundant gripe but still valid.

Harry
Harry

I love him too. If they want to shake things up, bring back Ryan–Kevin’s indentical twin brother, who also happens to be a sociopath.
Ryan could return to his past hobby of stalking Felicia thereby bringing back Mac and Felicia to the front burner. Jon Lindstrom is a brilliant actor and he is a huge fan favorite.

Rose
Rose

Want to keep Jon but don’t need another sociopath. Been there with Franco.

Harry
Harry

I understand what you’re saying Rose, but I don’t count James Franco having all this fun while pretending to be a performance artist/psychopath. The character he ad libbed while seemingly mocking the soap opera genre as well as the fans, was never meant to be permanent and never should have been forced onto Roger Howarth who all but gave up when given that ill fitting costume to wear.
Franco was always a cartoon figure and never predicated onto true psychology while Ryan was. And Ryan was brilliantly and realistically fleshed on by JL. You actually believe in this character and he was chilling. His relationship with his twin brother invited pathos, complexity and sucked the viewer in.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Harry…I don’t see Roger’s current portrayal of Franco as psychopath at all. The first few months were excruciating, no fault of RH. The writing of his character was infantile and buffoons. They have since evolved him I.to somewhat of a hero to those he loves…Nina, Kimi and I would bet for Scottie too if he needed him. Lets not forget how he risked his own life to find Carly…though SHE obviously forgot.

I love Franco now. I’m sure they’ll eventually throw some crazy back into his mix but I find him poignant, sincere, protective, determined…and I love him with Kimi and Nina. Hope they keep the characters and develop the three into a family. Roger’s really found his way with this role…

Rose
Rose

Nothing against Anthony, but it’s getting harder and harder to connect with GH because of the continual revolving doors with actors…example, once again losing Jon; newbies who “take up space” when there are fan favorite GH actors we rarely see anymore; and storylines and relationships that don’t seem to have the “old GH feel” or we don’t care about, at least for me. Soooo might appreciate this, but it makes some of RC’s storylines not look so bad…mainly his resurrection of his first Nurses Ball.

And recently it’s harder to even care about commenting because it seems the ABC suits and/or GH writers don’t seem to read or care about many of the concerns/comments from soap fans, at least on MF, starting with the ending of OLTL and AMC. They are going to do what they are going to do.

Shay
Shay

Sadly, your sentiments seem dead-on, Rose! In their extremely misguided efforts to appeal to all and sundry, the GH showrunners are breaking the cardinal rule for any successful entity and that is, do NOT alienate your base audience…. which is exactly what has happened. It is a hard and fast notion that you must solidly retain your initial target group whilst still finding new and creative ways to expand upon that number. Not an easy task by any means, but what has to be done in order to survive, no matter the product to which one is referring….when this classic model is ignored, businesses suffer diminished market shares, politicians lose elections and television shows notice declining ratings leading to cancellations. That’s just the way it is…..so, keep up the good work, GH, and continue to add more meaningless newbies to the mix and stir up further resentment amongst your most loyal, longtime fans.!!!! Many of us already can barely (if even…..) stomach watching the unrecognizable mess you’ve made of the Port Charles we once knew and loved.

Rodd
Rodd

I have mixed feelings about a new character, especially a new psychiatrist when we already don’t see enough of “Kevin”. But I’ve watched soaps long enough to know that there may be multiple other reasons why they aren’t utilizing Jon as “Kevin” for the long term story. I hope this is a solid character instead of another “baddie” and wish Anthony well.

Melissa
Melissa

Don’t think Jon Lindstrom wants a regular gig on GH, just the occasional appearance. I welcome the addition of another African-American lead and think he can be successfully paired up with any of the single people on canvas. Just wish they hadn’t set him up to “replace” Kevin, because that makes people not want to be as welcoming of the character as they might otherwise if he were just introduced as another doctor. I’m also relieved that they are expanding the hospital staff rather than adding another mob character!

Rodd
Rodd

Melissa, I was wondering if Jon Lindstrom didn’t want a long-term deal. Like I said, there may be multiple things about this we don’t know. But I agree with you, they make it easier not to be a open to a new actor when they don’t tell us things like the other/veteran actor didn’t want the commitment. I’m also glad he’s part of the hospital staff instead of a mobster (as far as we know at this point- LOL!).

CeeCee
CeeCee

Very true, Melissa. The mind is a complex machine. Fans of doc Kevin/Jon will react exactly as you have described them. So, never bring in a new actor as a stand-in for a loved character/actor. It does mess up the scope.

Harry
Harry

Hmm…well, when I Tweeted to bring back Jon Lindstrom for good and to also bring back Ryan, Jon Lindstrom re Tweeted my Tweet.
I think that means that yes, he would like a permanent gig on GH.

I was hoping Kevin would stick around, and gradually fall in love with Anna, and be in a three-way-love triangle with Lucy but Kevin and Anna become a couple…it wouldve been nice!…im all for more minorities in daytime and i believe this character will be paired with Jordan or Valerie but wished they had cast a relative of Brad’s instead… or why couldnt Andre be a member of the Hardy family…Tom and Simones son Tom Jr., or the son of Brian and Claudia Philips who were friends of Laura or one of the Wards with ties to the Qs…when bringing in yet another newbie (YAWN!) at least have him or her connected to a past or present character thats tied-in to the shows rich history…jmo!!!

Exactly right, Timmm!!!! Never in my life have I witnessed more uninspired and unlikeable characters on a single soap at one time….and I have watched dozens of shows, both in daytime and primetime! I truly abhor so many of the players on the current GH canvas that I cannot even consider looking at the program most days! Instead of correcting the utterly annoying tendency of adding more unwanted newbies and also getting rid of the overwhelming amount of deadweight they already have, the showrunners simply keep doubling down on the same mistake….over and over again. Sounds like a recipe for disaster….or cancellation…to me!

Shay
Shay

@Timmm (and Harry….) Laura and Anna are about all that remain of those quintessential soap heroines we grew up with and adored on GH…..it’s so absolutely tragic to see them misused and abused at the hands of the current showrunners, whilst far too often being shoved aside in favor of much less talented and interesting newbies. No other soap is as guilty of this practice as GH….even though I haven’t regularly viewed other daytime dramas in over a decade, I know that when I do catch a glimpse of any of the additional surviving three shows, I at least recognize a semblance of each program as it once had been…there’s a basic continuity of characters and core families, even if they have dwindled. Y&R still has their Abbotts, Fenmores, Williams, etc. and B&B, their Forresters, et al. In Salem, Days fans can find Hortons, Bradys, DiMeras, plus iconic players like Marlena, Maggie, and Victor. Yet in Port Charles, too many of the faces aren’t remotely related to a Hardy, Webber, Spencer, Scorpio, Drake, Jones, Quartermaine or even Cassadine….all great dynasties of the past decades. (What we seem to get most frequently is “Keeping Up With the Corinthos” ..i.e., Sonny, Sonny, Sonny’s ever-expanding brood of kids, and more Sonny. Or the tawdry ongoing sexcapades of Alexis, who just barely counts as a Cassadine. Hardly inspiring stuff for long-term fans who recall the show in its prime….) At the rate GH is going, ABC should just rename the whole thing since calling it by its traditional title is rapidly becoming false advertising.

Mary SF
Mary SF

My guess is JL is either more expensive to have on contract or not available for a long term story — so enter Dr. Maddox. Ethics should rule out a romance between Anna and her doctor, but his is a soap so who knows. Jordan does need some fleshing out if she is going to continue to be a viable character on the show, so a romance with the doctor could be in order. As long as he isn’t connected to a mob family or Faison in disguise I will give him a chance.

THIS is the problem I have with this show, and all of soaps in general. Why is it that whenever they bring on a black person, it’s AUTOMATICALLY a love interest for the only other black person (or people) on the show??? It’s racist and stereotypical all at once! There are PLENTY of other available men on the show for Jordan and Valerie to interact and hook up with without bringing on some token black man to be their designated love interest.

Jake/Jason
Patrick
Dante
Nikolas
Sonny
Michael
Morgan
Nathan
Ric

Honestly, these guys could all be well matched with either Valerie or Jordan. Is there really a NEED or a REQUIREMENT that their love interest be black? Just silly. It’s 2015, and these soaps need to get on board ASAP! Having the same skin color doesn’t a match make!

If TPTB want to be so “forward thinking” by showing same sex couples and normalizing that, then BY GOLLY, they need to be as “forward thinking” with interracial pairings — and having them LAST, and actually be QUALITY relationships. Just lame, and a shame really. When it comes to black and white interracial romance, soaps CHOOSE to still be stuck in the dark ages — as though blacks and whites really aren’t attracted to each other — and that’s SOOOOOOO not true.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Hello again, Trophy Lady. Let’s remember Molly and TJ.. I think that’s even MORE forward thinking and gutsy if you think about t. There are probably fans of a certain age who weren’t brought up to date another race, let alone their children. And yet they nicely incorporated this very in -love interrracial sweet romance…

Trophy Lady
Trophy Lady

Hi, Rebecca.

I have to disagree with you about Molly and TJ. They’re kids. Kids don’t usually carry that much weight on soaps — and their stories tend to be used simply for filler. Ultimately, most soap fans don’t care about the teens.

That being said, it still doesn’t make any sense why having the same race is a requirement for adult love interests on soaps. It makes absolutely no sense that both Jordan and Valerie are single with no love interest in sight. They are both gorgeous. The idea that GH needs to bring in a token black guy to be with either one (or both!) of them is completely asinine. Any of the white guys currently on the show would be perfectly fine as a romantic interest for either of the ladies, but because they aren’t the same race TPTB are against making them a couple.

You are right; there are fans who were taught that interracial dating is wrong. These same fans were taught that same-sex couples are wrong, too. Yet the writers and producers CHOOSE to showcase same-sex couples. They also CHOOSE NOT to showcase adult black/white interracial couples — and that’s VERY cowardly of them.

MissFixIt
MissFixIt

You are so right Trophy Lady. This is 2015, waiting around for the next black guy to come to town is not very realistic. Look around us – a lot of people just don’t limit themselves that way anymore. Happiness and passion should be embraced in all its colors.

Trophy Lady
Trophy Lady

Thank you, MissFixIt! That’s exactly my point! Waiting around and hoping some black guy comes to town is just DUMB!!! People connect for all kinds of reasons — and race is usually NOT one of them! As though interracial couples sit around daily speaking about the differences of their skin tones! No, they’re too busy connecting about what they truly do have in common, which is the reason why most couples get together, right?

These soaps continue to perpetuate racist ideas and stereotypes that are completely self-serving to those who are and continue to be racist viewers. There’s no reason why Jordan shouldn’t have already been romantically involved with Julian, Rick, Dante, Jake/Jason, and/or Sonny. They’ve all been closely involved in her story lines. There’s no reason why Valerie hasn’t hooked up with Nikolas, Dillon, Patrick, Michael, or Morgan. They’re all right there in her orbit as well. She slept with Dante, and that didn’t work out. So now what? She’s supposed to wait for the new black guy to get to town to save her? How much do you want to bet that since now Jordan and Valerie are friends, they’ll be fighting over the new black dude once he arrives??? All of those single white dudes in Port Charles, yet the two black ladies want to fight over the ONE black man??? Are you kidding me??? That’s just INSULTING! Beautiful, successful, COMMISSIONER Jordan has been sitting around PC completely DATELESS — just waiting and hoping for a black man??? I don’t buy it, and it’s just racist!

Like I said, TPTB clearly don’t have a problem standing up to those fans who are against same-sex relationships, BUT somehow black/white interracial romance is too much for the racists to handle, and too much for them to accept in 2015??? Okay, so I’m guessing that the TPTB are part of the racist problem since they CLEARLY REFUSE to be part of the solution.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Lol…Trophy Lady…we’ll have to agree to disagree again. Shawn was with Alexis and Carly. They broke up…as many same race couples do. Point is…they were paired up. Dante and Valerie…who is biracial by the way…was with Dante. They didn’t keep them split them because of race; he’s married. It’s quite well known to longtime fans that Edward Q had a love affair with Ellie May…probably not her name…which escapes me. His grandson Justice was welcomed into the family. As for gay couples…they’ve paired while Lucas with Asian Brad who both felt something for black Felix. And then there’s Milo and Uggg..the nurse…can’t think if her name either. I need sleep…

To top it off we don’t yet know WHO this new guy will be paired with…but we already have one poster on this page who thinks he’ll be paired with a white woman and resents THAT. I guess when we don’t have to have this discussion is when it will be as commonplace As any other couple. Were not there yet in real life, but getting there.

I also disagree about the young love stories. They are very relevant to the fabric of the families-fabric of the show and it’s very forward thinking to portray young love between different races. I applaud them and think Molly and TJ are adorable together. Liz and Lucky started out at the same age…so did Robin and Stone and others. They’re a part of the soap family and very relevant.

Rebecca, LOL, you do realize that the people you mentioned — most weren’t even real couples. Carly and Shawn were NEVER really anything. They did some flirting and that was about it. Alexis and Shawn had more problems than not — and were never really together as a true couple. Dante and Valerie merely slept together. Edward and Mary Mae were OFF SCREEN! We never saw them as a couple at all. Justus just showed up one day. And as for Milo and Epiphany — well, when was the last time you saw them together on screen?

My point still stands: with ALL of the white guys currently available on the canvas, why is it necessary to bring in a black guy for Jordan or Valerie? It doesn’t even matter that some of the white guys are married — characters date, fall in love, get married, and get divorced ALL THE TIME on soaps. That’s what they’re all about. Why doesn’t this happen with the black female characters and the white male characters as couples? Why isn’t it being written that Dante cheated on Lulu, and then realizes that he’s fallen in love with Valerie, wanting to leave Lulu for Valerie? That’s what soaps do all of the time. Why is it now “because he’s married” he can’t be interested in someone else? The same could be said for the Jordan-Julian-Alexis triangle that should’ve been. Why is it because Julian is “involved” with Alexis, he somehow can’t be romantically involved with Jordan, too? Reeks of racist and biased storytelling to me…

You both raise good points. I think they should pair him up with Liz or Sam and get those fanbases even madder lol…

Yeah, Erick. I’d love that!!!! Add some heated steam…..

Erick! I’d be all for pairing him with Elizabeth, Samantha, Anna, Lulu, Maxie, Laura, Dr. Obrecht — WHOEVER!!! Just don’t automatically pair him with Jordan or Valerie SIMPLY because they’re black. That is just so incredibly LAME!!!

It would be the same thing if he arrives in Port Charles and he’s related to either Jordan or Valerie, or they knew each other before arriving in PC. Honestly, do ALL black people have to be involved with each on the show??? That kind of thinking and writing is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!

CeeCee
CeeCee

I can possibly answer that Trophy Lady. The reason why a black character is paired with another black character on a soap is to stop negative comments such as the one made, with all due respect, by one of our fellow-posters. Unless, the writers seek to create tension, drama and suspense, which are desperately needed right now; then , ‘they’ will let ‘sleeping dogs lie’. My thought automatically went to either Valerie or Jordan because I know this is where the writers’s mind is….and, as we have seen, some posters’.
I agree with you wholeheartedly on this…but, it is what it is. We are helpless to change it….no matter how much or how long we protest by voicing our opinions or bang our heads against the wall. We will come out the losers AND sore. Lol.

Hi, Cee Cee. I agree with you. The writers don’t want to tick off fans who are ARCHAIC and RACIST. But, somehow, those same writers don’t feel the need hold off on homosexual relationships. TPTB feel that we are now at a point where EVERYONE should be accepting of those relationships. TPTB even use homosexual relationships of their characters as teaching tools.

Why don’t the TPTB feel the same way about black/white interracial relationships? Why is it okay to push the boundaries with homosexual relationships, but it’s NOT OKAY to do that with the black/white interracial relationships? Clearly, TPTB care about one cause, and choose to IGNORE the other. And that is VERY problematic — and racist.

Sorry, Trophy…I think you’re jumping the gun.. _ We don’t even know who he’s being paired with! To suggest Dante fall in love with Valerie and leave Lulu? He hasn’t done so with ANY female. White, black or green. Instead of acknowledging that Dante and Valerie were attrActed to each other physically…and made a connection being both brought up by single moms…you’re not happy and think it’s racist that he didn’t fall madly in love with Valerie and leave his wife for her! Dante loves Lulu…he cheated on her out if despair. Period. Now that’s not to say that down the road, when Lulu finds out that he cheated k. Her and lied about it that this couple may have real troubles…perhaps she’ll turn to Dylan, and if they’re really over perhaps there’ll be a Dante and Valerie then. But to suggest Dante should have immediately left Lulu for hsf? That’s not Dante. He loves his wife. Jordan has barely been on. Its not like we see her on a regulAr basis. When she was on canvas regularly, she already had a complex history with Shawn. Now that she seems to be getting more airtime, let’s see who they pair her with. It shouldn’t matter who as long as it’s a dynamic couple. Sabrina is Latin. So far both her love nterests have been white. Not many couples on GH have been involved in love triangles or have left each other for some one else. You’re suggesting that and annoyed that one of the already established couples haven’t brwoken up or fallen in love with one or one or both of these two black actresses. That would be just as nonsensical if they broke up for ANY character…unless the couple was in trouble to begin with. Milo and Epiphany Molly and TJ Alexis and Shawn Carla and Shawn Dante and Valerie Sabrina and Patrick Sabrina and Michael Edward and Uggg..STILL can’t remember her name…Mary Mae? My point is GH hasn’t historicAlly been an integrated show. Its evolving with diverse ethnicities and alternative ifestyles. But in SPITE OF that history, they’ve had interraciAl affAirs and relationships. Valerie is the child of an interracIAl relationship.)) We haven’t seen an ongoing mixed couple because of the lack of diversity. If the show hopefully continues and the ethnic backgrounds grounds of the actors vary more and more, they’ll be more couples of every type, ut to suggest that an establishex couple split for the sake of firming such a couple is not the point of storytelling. And…JordAn came to town with her own history; her son and Shawn. Valeri.e fell in live with a married man, a white man, abd they paired her with another, Dylan. Dylan, by the way, hasn’t had a relationship since he’s been on, either. Anna doesn’t, Lucy doesn’t…currently Tracy doesn’t. Ahhhhh…but Monica does…with a black judge. Forgot about them! There are many characters who we barely see. But they’re out there…including an increasing amount of interracial couples. With all… Read more »

Its not racist. MOST couples are together that share the same race. No one is saying they cannot cross date but its just the way it is! As far as your two choices to match them with white men. Jordan was with Shawn. So maybe Jordan only dates black guys! Valerie, we’ve only seen her with Dante. Although she is mixed race, maybe she only likes white men. Your assuming the opposite of others. In other words, your no different than than they are, you just have a different opinion in which you are certainly entitled to.

I wasn’t clear in my post. The couples I listed are examples of integrated couples…whether they’re on canvas a lot or not. Point is GH has had such couples. Some broke up, some aren’t seen as much..like many of our characters.

By the way, myself and another poster pointed out that many times a black person will feel just the opposite as you abd resent pairing a black actor or actress with a white actor. See one if the comments above. Its still an issue for many, right or wrong.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Michael Blasts Brad As The Truth About Wiley Comes Out

FINALLY! On Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, Lucas (Ryan Carnes) memory is jogged just enough that he clearly remembers Brad’s (Parry Shen) shocking words before their car crash; where Brad confessed that Wiley was Nelle (Chloe Lanier) and Michael’s (Chad Duell) biological son.

At the Corinthos home, Lucas stands up and announces to Michael that Wiley is actually his believed to be dead son, Jonah. Carly’s (Laura Wright) mouth drops and then she takes over getting to the root of the truth of the baby switch.

Brad is cornered and left with no choice but to fess up. He explains how Wiley died when he was no longer breathing, and how he was driving with him, when he ended up on the route where Nelle left Michael to die in the car he was driving (Michael recalls this bit of Intel in a flashback).

Then, Brad explains how Nelle appeared with her newborn baby and claimed the whole thing was engineered by Nelle …  and how he was so upset and panicked, that he went along with her plan.

Michael lets Brad have it for all of his lies and machinations, and the pain it has inflicted on so many people for over a year and half.  How on earth could he do that? Carly also lays into him.

Meanwhile, Sasha (Sofia Matteson) has urgently called Chase (Josh Swickard), who leaves “Wiley” and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) behind, and heads to the Corinthos’ where he hears the whole sad truth about the baby switch.

With Chase gone, Nelle goes looking for “Wiley” who is with Willow, and the two get into a major throwdown catfight.  Nelle comes out the victor and goes to get her baby ready to leave town with her son.

So, what did you think of how the truth finally came out?  What did you think of Michael’s tirade on Brad? What do you think will happen next? Comment below.

GH’s James Patrick Stuart Talks on Valentin’s Downfall and Potential Rise to Power

After all his bravado, machinations and lies to keep the woman he loves, and believing he was the rightful heir to the Cassadine fortune, suddenly it all came crashing down for Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) on recent episodes of General Hospital.

Payback can be a bitch, but for Valentin; who’s past has been fraught with numerous physical and emotional tribulations since his childhood, he now finds himself at the lowest point in his life; losing Nina (Cynthia Watros) who’s now taken up with Jax (Ingo Rademacher), realizing he is the biological son of the evil Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers), and not Mikkos, and having all his best laid plans and misdeeds backfire.  (Remember, he shot and “killed” Nikolas, and set up the ruse that led Sasha to pretend she was Nina’s bio-daughter.)  Now, enter Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier), who could very well hold the ticket, to Valentin’s rise to wealth and power all over again.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with James Patrick Stuart to get the lowdown on: those heavy and emotional scenes opposite Constance Towers, working with Cynthia Watros as his newest Nina, if Valentin might really kill Jax the next time he thinks about it, and what about a potential relationship between Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin?

Not many can play bad as good as James in this industry.  He does it so effortlessly and still brings out the humanity in the guy that has t-r-o-u-b-l-e written all over him.  Here’s what James had to share about all of Valentin’s recent dramatic moments, a tease of what’s to come, and much more.

Photo: JPI

Valentin’s world has imploded at the moment.  When did you initially find out that he was going to turn out to not be a true Cassadine heir?

JAMES:  Well, there were some clues dropped by Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) back when we did the gallery auction where Helena’s portrait went up in flames.  Frank looked at me and goes, “Hey, Jack Nicholson it up.  Have some fun!  You’re not going to be feeling pretty good for a while.”  (Laughs)  I’m like, “Oh … what are the plans?”  He pulled me aside and goes, “Yeah, you’re going to lose Nina, but you’re going to try to take over ELQ.  That’s when I started to go, “Wait a minute!  That sounds to me like Valentin’s losing his money.”  (Laughs)  With the character of Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) coming back; it’s pretty great.  I think the writing was on the wall there.  I put it out on twitter the other day.  I said, “Look what they’ve done to my boy.”  Somebody chimed in, “They gave him a storyline!” (Laughs)

Who doesn’t love to see you, James Patrick Stuart, play tortured soul?  They audience loves to see you get the opportunity to go to those depths in your performances.

JAMES:  It’s been really interesting for me.  I’ve had a lifetime of playing bad guys because the line was always shorter. (Laughs)  Everybody wants to be Tom Cruise, but the Alan Rickman’s of it all, to me, were what was so interesting.  Early on, you play one dimensional kind of twisting of the mustache, tying a woman to the train tracks.  After a while, you start to watch the truly great actors.  They start to take you on a ride.  If you’re paying attention, you start to feel what it would be like to be that damaged, and that’s why you do it.  Then you start to see the vulnerability. To me, I thought, “This is a great time in my life because I’m ready to do that.” A lot of people say, “I don’t understand.  I feel like that makes no sense. because why would I root for a person who behaves like this?” and that to me, I feel is the greatest compliment of all.

So much happened recently to Valentin in one fell swoop; he overhears Nina telling Ava (Maura West) she kissed Jax, then he envisions shooting Jax and then he is drinking himself into oblivion and he gets a “visit” from Helena!  But … the scenes between Valentin and Helena really summed up the bitter truth for him, wouldn’t you say?

JAMES:  Yes.  In the “Helena” scenes, it all basically is revealed.  It all comes down in a moment where he “sees” her.  I think he realizes with the DNA test; he’s not the person he thought he was, but he certainly had no idea that he had her blood in his veins.  The truly tragic moment of the evening is when it dawns on him that he has a daughter with Helena’s blood in her veins.  Now, he would kill her a thousand times over in that moment.  He can’t do it.  He’s fighting phantoms.  That’s the bottom below the bottom, and things got worse than he ever thought they would get.

Does Valentin have any idea then, who his biological father could be?

JAMES:  I don’t think so.  I don’t believe so.  I know I don’t.  I think once he realizes that Helena is in fact the mother, I think he’d rather just go into oblivion.  I think at that point, he’s out of answers.  Enter Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) …which is wonderful because I think the world of Nancy, and she saves the day.   Alexis basically talks him out of hurting himself, telling him to count his blessings that he is not a Cassadine, etc, which was a really sweet moment.

I assume, when you have this kind of material to play, it must be exhausting, but exhilarating at the same time?

JAMES:  I think that’s exactly right.  As an actor, I think you want to do this stuff.  Maura West and I compare notes all the time.  I think it can be kind of emotionally draining.  You do feel it, and I felt it when I had spent a lot of time with Nina and Valentin, and when the actresses changed, and we brought Cynthia Watros in.  I worked twice as hard to make sure that Cynthia’s landing was as easy as possible, and I really grew attached to the Nina and Valentin connection.  So, when Jax steps in, Cynthia’s love life means nothing to me, I don’t care about that, but Nina’s love life means a lot to me!  And it bums me out, and I don’t know that I’ll actually be watching any future love scenes between them as much as I love them both!  I have a deep attachment to the Valentin connection to Nina.  So, the lines get burred because we just play these characters so long.

Photo: JPI

What was it like sharing those tough scenes with Constance? No one can play icy, evil villainess like her … and yet in real life, she is such a gracious and kind-hearted woman.

JAMES:  In real life, Constance is such a sweetheart, and she’s so grateful to be there.  She was so ready to work, and rehearse, and play, and find the stuff, and she was great.  I’d been in scenes with her before.  Last time, we didn’t really talk to each other.  I was with the hump.  I was being Valentin pre-surgery.  It was some sort of moment in a graveyard, but this time we actually got to interact with each other.

You look at Valentin, and he’s not had the greatest life.  Do you bring his entire back-story into your performance; such as when he was deformed with the hump and how he had to literally reconstruct his life both in the physical and in emotional ways for many years?

JAMES:  Absolutely.  It’s the brokenness that he’s making choices from.  He was never truly and authentic person to begin with which is why his love fell apart.  He’s always been faking.  He’s always been putting on a show.  That’s not sustainable in matters of the heart.  It was unbelievably easy for Jax to swoop in, because it was inevitable that things were going to fall apart.  Of course, that anger and that brokenness were what lead him to want to kill Jax.  There’s no question.  He was prepared to do that.  If you look in the eyes in the fantasy sequence in the shooting, he just wanted to watch him die.  He wanted to watch the light go out in Jax’s eyes.  He was so furious … and even more tragic is … that was all he could think of, and somehow, he realized in that moment that wouldn’t work, because he’d lose his daughter.

Photo: JPI

Anna and Finn (Michael Easton) just kind of busted up.  Do you think Anna and Valentin will hookup? There is a connection and a history between the two of them whenever they seem to be in proximity of one another.

JAMES:  Personally, I’m waiting for that.  I hope so!  There is a finesse and elegance to that woman, and not only that, there is an effortless to the connection between Valentin and Anna, if one can say that about one’s own coupling.  I love to look at it!  I think we go together like a wink and a smile.  I just find that chemistry really great.  I think that’s mostly Finola, though.  She can probably have chemistry with most anything.

Valentin was going to leave Port Charles with Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez), after Nikolas revealed all and the fallout began.  Interestingly enough, it was Anna who came to Valentin’s side and tried to talk him down from fleeing with his daughter and showed such compassion for him!

JAMES:  Wasn’t that great?  She was the one who got him.  She was the one who was able to calm the beast.  There was no one else he would have listened to.  In the moment in the police station, after Charlotte had been kidnapped, and there is that moment where Anna has that bruise, I thought it was such a tender moment.  I just said, “If I kiss my finger and touch your wound?” and she’s like, “Do it.”  It was just this moment where we had been bitter rivals and enemies for so long, but he just adores her so much it’s undeniable that he sees her wounded and wants to make it better.  It’s floating out there waiting to be done.  I know that everybody knows it.  It’s just a matter of what the right away to go about in the writing would be.

Photo: JPI

So, you’ve worked opposite two acting dynamos in the role of Nina – Michelle Stafford and now, Cynthia Watros.  Was the transition difficult for you when Cynthia came to GH?

JAMES:  It wasn’t.  It was scary because Michelle Stafford wasn’t just one in a million, I mean, she is one of a kind.  The last thing in the world that I would ever want to consider doing myself was recast that actress.  So, my deal was (and I’ve said this to Cynthia) I said, “I have no control over this.  All I can do is make the landing as easy as possible for Cynthia.”  We did a lot of photoshoots together, and I had flowers waiting for her, and I did everything possible to make sure that she knew that she had a friend and that she had somebody that was going to make it as easy as possible.  It was rough because a lot of the trolls on social media were just awful to her… just brutal, and she goes, “I have thick skin.  I can take it,” and then a week later, she goes, “I’ve closed all my social media accounts!”  (Laughs)  It’s been fun to watch those guys turn around and go, “You have a really special person.”  That wedding stuff was just incredible!  She came so prepared and she knocked it out of the park.  Cynthia has been wonderful.  I love them both.  I love her the reddest, and I love Michelle the bluest, and together I love them the purplest.  (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

It’s interesting that all the women in his life such as Anna and Nina, all have a soft-spot for Valentin; even though they don’t necessarily want to be with him.  These ladies are just drawn to this dysfunctional guy.

JAMES:  Don’t you think?  Is it that you want to help him, you want to fix him, you see the potential, you want to help him despite himself?  I think that’s what it is.

Courtesy/ABC

Do you think Valentin’s still going to try to win Nina back, or is that done?

JAMES:  I don’t know.  I do know that the Valentin I know will never shake Nina, and when he loves, he loves forever.  He can be simultaneously in love with Anna whenever she’s near.  I don’t believe he ever truly got over Nina hearing his story and his brokenness and still loving him twice as hard.  Years ago, there was a moment where he said to her the stuff that he’s never said, and Michelle beautifully kissed my tears away and said, “You’re beautiful” to me.   I think in that moment his fate was sealed.  I think he knew that this was his woman forever.  So, I just don’t think that that goes away.  I think he will always carry a torch for Nina, for sure.

Do you see Valentin becoming darker and darker now that he had found out he is Helena’s offspring?

JAMES:  Well, yes and no.  I remember watching these scenes and we’ve done a lot of this stuff, and you know how easy it is to sort of go, “Let’s go dark, let’s go dark, let’s go more dark,” and after a while, I go, “You know, maybe he does learn something.  Maybe there’s hope for this guy after all.”  Of course, more bad stuff will happen to him, and he will do more bad stuff, because that’s just who he is.  A leopard can’t change his spots, and those are his survival instincts, but there are some new colors, and it’s all a direct result of all of just these horrible things that have happened to him… mostly learning that he is part Helena and he can’t undo that.

Photo: JPI

We saw that Nelle (Chloe Lanier) called and then goes to see Valentin, because she wants to sell her shares of ELQ.  So, obviously he has the potential to become really rich here which is what would give him his power back.  How do you think that will go over with the rest of the Quartermaines? (Laughs)

JAMES:  (Laughs) A lot of the Quartermaine actors have been asking me that in the hallways of General Hospital!  Isn’t that interesting how he’ll just sort of switch families? (Laughs)

Of all the people, just as Valentin’s life is in the gutter and he is at his lowest, who should show up with a sort of lifeline, Nelle! How will he go about attempting to gain control of ELQ?

JAMES:  Valentin knows he has to get the majority shares to gain a control of the company, and he has to do it fast before people see that he’s doing it.  So, that’s where Michael E. Knight (Martin Gray) has been.  He’s gallivanting the states rapidly accumulating shares.  (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

It’s been so fun seeing you and Michael Knight on-screen and on a daytime soap together again, as so many remember you as Tad Martin and Will Cortlandt on All My Children.  How has it been getting the chance to work with Michael?

JAMES:  My God, are you kidding me?  He taught me!  He’s the guy who taught me.  I didn’t know how to do this.  Nobody instinctively knows… this is a very unique art form.  It’s more Jazz than anything else, and he showed me how to do it!  Walt Willey (Ex-Jack, AMC) showed me how to do my hair, and Michael Knight taught me how to break down a script!  And, what’s so funny is he is still doing it.  In a scene on GH, when he threw in that line, “From now on, you pay in advance,” I just about fell on the floor!  I thought, “There he is!  That’s the Michael I’ve always known and loved.”

Photo: JPI

Who would have thought that you guys would get to share scenes like that again on soaps?  You just never know in this life who may be wind up back in your orbit.

JAMES:  It’s incredible.  That’s what we say all of the time… “Who would have thought?”  You could never plan something like this and that we’d still be doing it at this point.

Now with Lulu (Emme Rylan) learning that Valentin is not a Cassadine, and Nina apparently moving on to a relationship with Jax, what do you think it will mean for their relationship in raising their daughter, Charlotte?

JAMES:  I think in the short-term, Valentin’s shelved any ideas of getting her out of Charlotte’s life.  He’s sort of putting out the fires in his own personal life.  Charlotte needs a mother in her life, and he’s quite willing to share custody as they always have been.  She seems to be looking at this as an opportunity to paint him as an unfit father, and she wants full-time custody.  So, we’re back to that again.  It looks to me like Lulu is kicking Valentin while he’s down.

Photo: JPI

It was so nice to see you, and some of your GH co-stars such as: Steve Burton (Jason) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) show up for Y&R’s Eric Braeden’s (Victor Newman) 40th anniversary on set celebration at CBS.  It was quite the event; speakers galore, and so many from our industry and beyond in attendance.

JAMES:  It was pretty profound.  Eric has always been kind to me.  I only worked with him on one movie, a western, called The Man Who Came Back, and that was probably 12 years ago.  He has been so complimentary of me in interviews and in his book.  So, if he does that with me, I can only imagine how many dear, dear friendships he has.  So, the fact that everybody showed up like that from the president of CBS Entertainment to local councilmen, and that they were willing to do be there for 2 hours was really proof of how much they love him.  Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), who I don’t even think was working that day, came in for it and spoke at the event. There was so much respect shown for Eric and what he has meant to this medium.

Photo: JPI

Your album The Apple Tree was so well-received, and everyone always loves seeing you get the opportunity to sing on General Hospital as well.  Will you continue to put out more music in 2020?

JAMES:  Yeah, that’s the plan.  I have another one that I’m working on.  I have a bunch of songs.  I’m in no rush to get it out.  Unfortunately, I lost Glen Roven, who wrote the cello part for Book of Love, passed away right after the Nurses’ Ball where I played Book of Love, which is really heartbreaking, and then, Michael Sherwood, who helped me with a number of songs on the record passed away right after The Apple Tree came out.  So, I’m a little gun-shy.  But, I’m planning on having something out by December for Christmas.

In closing, what would you say the fans should look forward to in the weeks ahead from Valentin?

JAMES: Look forward to that moment where Valentin is so low that there’s nowhere to go but up!  The comeback is going to be one for the books.

So, what do you think of how Valentin’s life hit rock bottom?  Do you think he will ever win Nina back? Do you think he will takeover ELQ? Share your thoughts on James’ recent performances and his thoughts contained in this interview via the comment section below.

General Hospital Delivers Super-Sized Promo: The Truth About Wiley To Be Revealed

This week, General Hospital is going full-tilt set to deliver the moment that fans of the show have been waiting for since back in September 2018, when on one fateful night  …

(Cliff Notes version here) Brad and Lucas’s adopted child dies, Nelle gives birth in the woods with an assist from Liesl. Brad and Nelle comes face to face on the road; the two switch babies and keep the long-held secret that Brad and Lucas are actually raising Nelle and Michael’s bio-son. Meanwhile, Willow thinks she is Wiley’s birth mother, having no idea, that her baby died with Brad.

Julian has been in on the secret, and when Brad finally revealed to Lucas the truth about Wiley, it caused their car to crash (Remember: Kendra who in the other car, who was trying to kill Alexis) which has left Lucas with only fragmented memories of that night.

Realizing everything is getting too close for comfort for the truth to come out; Brad accepts a job in Portland and is moving with Lucas and Wiley, while Nelle is selling her shares of ELQ to Valentin to get out of dodge too, so she can follow them, we think.

But in one of the best promo’s we have ever seen for a daytime drama series, as you see below; will Lucas remember and reveal the truth to Michael?
